Hello Nigeria, This article came up as a result of my experience using FCMB internet banking for over 3 years. I have a corporate account (business version) with FCMB and before you can use FCMB internet banking platform, you are obligated to use either a soft or hardware token. Also, take note that as a business account customer, you are exempted from using the popular USSD service for your transactions. Some months ago, something strange happened to my hardware token, I noticed that it still generates the usual numbers but the numbers that it generates are proven invalid by the platform. So, I reported to the customer care unit of my branch and I was asked to write a letter with my company’s letterhead and do some bla bla bla before I could get on. I got back to work that day feeling so disappointed with some loopholes in our banking system in Nigeria. Then I started considering using a better alternative. Not so long, I discovered Quickteller. Hence, this article is my unbiased opinion about my experience while using FCMB internet banking and Interswitch Quickteller. 7 REASONS WHY I PREFER USING QUICKTELLER TO MY FCMB INTERNET BANKING 1. You don’t need to have a token to send money to any account, pay bills or even recharge your phone. The idea of having to carry token everywhere you go is crazy. It is just not working for me. You talk about security? Yea, Qickteller’s OTP is good enough to get me covered. 2. You don’t need to download any app or visit your bank before you can set up mobile banking application or internet banking. With Quickteller, it is easy to use because it is web based. Just visit the webpage and initiate your transactions, that is all. As a small-scale business owner, it may also interest you to know that Quickteller has partnered with some financial organizations to offer soft loan services for your business growth. You can’t easily get this from FCMB without passing through fire. 3. It is cheaper. As at the last time I checked, the cost of getting FCMB hardware token is roughly N3,500…what da heck! Why not save that and just use Quickteller that charges you only N52 per transfer to any bank? Mind you, after FCMB charges you that much for the token, they will still charge you the same N52 for any transfer to other banks. 4. The problem with maintaining hardware token. The device can get easily damaged or just run mad as mine did. I tell you, if anything happens to your token, you will go through a lot to get it fixed. 5. In case there is slow internet network or no internet data on your phone, you can easily walk to any Interswitch powered ATM and complete your transaction with your Verve card. This means that you can transfer money to any account and pay your bills using the ATM. 6. The security claimed to be provided by either the software or hardware token is useless and unnecessary since Quickteller already offers OTP as a form of security. Just as it is difficult for anyone to complete any transaction on FCMB internet banking without using a token, so also is the case with OTP; if you don’t have access to the phone which was used to open the account, you can’t complete any transaction successfully. 7. It is easy for an elephant to pass through the hole of a needle than for you to recharge your mobile phone through FCMB mobile bank application or internet banking platform. We hope this review will get to the real decision makers in FCMB team and other commercial banks in Nigeria so as to make a change. As a tradition for us here, we do not by any means intend to castigate or taint the image of any brand but we are dedicated to highlighting some critical features of brands and point out areas that need to be developed or reviewed about such brands for easy access and full customer satisfaction. FCMB like other well-meaning commercial banks in Nigeria claims to be supportive to both small scale businesses and SMEs but till date there are no realistic and accessible soft loans available for businesses. FCMB needs to work on making soft and quick loans available to their dedicated customers via their internet banking platform. It is not all about Nigerian government, at Brand Inspectors’ Blog (BIB), we believe we can all help to build a better and bigger Nigeria. It starts from you. A business with no sign is a sign of no business. Your brand is your corporate signature in the global marketplace. Some weeks ago Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder revealed in his presentation at F8 Conference that Facebook is set to move into web shops where customers can browse a store’s product and make purchases. With this, they are moving beyond the idea of Facebook being an advertising model to an eCommerce platform. This development would enable the brand to rival with big brands such as Amazon, Alibaba, Wechat, Aliexpress, etc. As for me, eCommerce is not the next big thing for Facebook now, the competition is tight. It could be a great idea but implemented at the wrong time. This piece is my way of showing Zuckerberg and his team a better way to go. Who knows, if this idea is fully implemented, I may be selected by Zuckerberg’s team to help lead a strategic and business development team in Africa. Kindly help share this till it gets to Mark Zuckerberg, Sheyl Sanberg, Mac Andreessen, Erskine Bowles, Susan Desmond-Hellman, Donald Graham, Reed Hastings or Peter Thiel at 1 Hacker Way, Menlo Park, CA 94025, USA. 1. It would be a great opportunity to help curb the problem of piracy affecting movie/music distribution in Africa. The problem of piracy in Africa keeps getting worse. There had been several attempts to help solve this problem but none has proven viable enough. There is a need for a controlled distribution channel that will enable music/movie production companies to upload their contents on the platform (Facebook/Instagram) and start promoting and selling the contents. With this, songs and movies can be bought; streamed online or downloaded on Facebook/Instagram player to be assessed offline. 2. Currently, music/movie production companies sell their contents on other platforms but promote the contents on Facebook/Instagram/Whatsapp. Why can’t they just sell it directly? Facebook/Instagram shouldn’t just be a platform where musical artistes, actors and actresses can just promote their songs to family, friends and fans, it could also be an avenue for contents to be distributed and sold. This goes a long way in helping the contents creator to sell their contents with just a click instead of having to link other platform. 3. Like Netflix, Facebook can start generating income by personally producing and selling movies to their 2.38 billion active monthly users all over the world. This could be another big hit for Facebook/Instagram. Instead of just partnering with Netflix, Facebook can leverage on the strength of its user base and platform to divert into movie productions since the distribution of the contents would be smooth and easy. As big as Netflix is, the company still runs paid adverts on Facebook and Instagram. So, if Facebook decides to divert into movie production and distribution, it already has a platform to advertise its contents at no extra cost. With this Facebook can marginalize profit. 4. With the help of Instant Messaging, songs and movies promoted and sold on this platform can get instant reviews. So contents creators can get instant feedback and those who are yet to listen to the song or watch the movie can easily be motivated to do so. In the case of movies with different episodes, producers can make the experience interactive by asking the viewers to predict what would happen in the next episode. Unlike the experience in the cinema, viewers can interact with one another while watching the movie and they can also send feedback directly to the producer. 5. With the help of Facebook/Instagram player, Facebook can control the distribution of music/movies then compete with brands such as itunes, Spotify, Youtube, etc. This means that all the songs/movies bought and downloaded on Facebook/Instagram will be directly stored on the player and cannot be easily transferred to other users. 6. Entertainment sells faster and it is a great way of allowing users to spend more time on the network. I think this needs no explanation. Just read the next point below. 7. Facebook is a monopoly, so why shouldn’t it just take charge? With Facebook’s over 2.38 billion monthly active users, Instagram’s over 1 billion monthly active users and Netflix’ 139 million paying subscribers and Spotify’s 217 million monthly active users, there is no doubt that both Facebook and Instagram has all what it takes to dominate the global entertainment industry and help to put smile of the faces of many music/movie producers worldwide. Jelita:Doctor do good ![]() |
This makes me proud of my country despite all odds. Some dudes still have the brain to think. I saw it somewhere else on Nairaland that it could be used by politicians. This is far better than dropping American dollar or Nigerian naira on the floor for politicians to buy votes. The aspect of using it to generate a robust database interests me most. This means that brands and churches can also use it to get the phone numbers of their direct customers. You are not only rewarding them, you get something in return. But isn't this rather too late for politicians because campaign programs are ongoing in several states already? The company behind this should start focusing their energy on using the concept for brands, churches etc. Imagine if there was something like this in the just concluded Experience Crusade. The organisers can boast of capturing at least 87% of the worshippers at the crusade and follow up with them on subsequent activities. It will help save cost on publicity for next event. Targeted advert, kind of. I don't have a Phd., I hope I still made some sense. |
