bakynes: Remember that Fulani were not originally from this Geographical space called Nigeria they migrated from Mecca down to Mali, Senegal down to the old Songhai Empire. Even if there were traces of Mosque built in Old Oyo Empire majority did not practise Islam in Yoruba Land not until the Afonja-Alimi encounter that converted many Ilorin people and there after spread Islam throughout the entire Yoruba Land.
Utman Dan fodio only continued Jihad in Northern Nigeria. Fulani had already started a Jihad in Mali and other West African nations way way before Utman Dan fodio was born. it is a lie. islam grew independently of fodio jihad in yorubaland since its has been rooted in 15th century. My great great great grandfather was muslim long before fodio jihad! Get a good book on the growth of Islam in yorubaland and read and stop this conjectures! |

bakynes: You are the very ignorant one, how can you say Yoruba Ilorin people practiced Islam before Hausa and Fulani people when in Actual fact Fulani brought Islam into what is now called Nigeria. Fulani who migrated from Mecca forced many West African tribes into Islam through Jihad (Holy War)
So you don't know the Alimi-Afonja story? your ignorance is complicated because you dont know you are ignorant! do you know yoruba name for Islam? It is IMOLE,coinned from the word MALI! Yoruba Islamic Historian will tell you Islam came to yorubaland from MALI,specifically through Malian traders in 15th century, during these period hausas are pagians the first two mosques in yorubaland were built in Oyo and Iwo in 15th century while uthman dan fordio west africa jihad happened in 1804 to 1808 which spread islam through hausaland. Islam also came to the southwestern Yoruba -speaking areas during the time of the Mali Empire . In his Movements of Islam in face of the Empires and Kingdoms in Yorubaland , Sheikh Dr. Abu-Abdullah Adelabu supported his claims on early arrival of Islam in the southwestern Nigeria by citing the Arab anthropologist Abduhu Badawi, who argued that the fall of Koush southern Egypt and the prosperity of the politically multicultural Abbasid period in the continent had created several streams of migration, moving west in the mid-9th Sub-Sahara .[10] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_NigeriaYorubas came in contact with Islam around the 14th century during the reign of Mansa Kankan Musa of the Mali Empire. According to Al-Aluri, the first Mosque was built in Ọyọ-Ile in AD 1550 although, there were no Yoruba Muslims, the Mosque only served the spiritual needs of foreign Muslims living in Ọyọ. [citation needed] Progressively, Islam came to Yoruba land, and Muslims started building Mosques: Iwo town led, its first Mosque built in 1655 followed by Iṣẹyin, in 1760; Lagos, 1774; Ṣaki, 1790; and Oṣogbo, 1889. [citation needed] In time, Islam spread to other towns like Oyo (the first Oyo convert was Solagberu), Ibadan, Abẹokuta, Ijẹbu-Ode, Ikirun, and Ẹdẹ before the 18th century Sokoto jihad. [ citation needed ] Several factors contributed to the rise of Islam in Yoruba land by mid 19th century. Before the decline of Ọyọ, several towns around it had large Muslim communities, unfortunately, when Ọyọ was destroyed, these Muslims (Yoruba and immigrants) relocated to newly formed towns and villages and became Islam protagonists. [ citation needed ] Second, there was a mass movement of people at this time into Yoruba land, many of these immigrants were Muslims who introduced Islam to their host. [ citation needed ] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_NigeriaINFACT NO HAUSA FULANI HISTORIAN OR SCHOLAR WILL DE AR SAY IT THAT ISLAM CAME TO YORUBALAND FROM THEM |

JamesDoe: Kwarans, ronu.
Whenever I meet a Kwaran and they give me a heavy Arabic name, I stare at them till they give me their Yoruba name.
There are Moslems in SW states but they use their Yoruba names and even when they have Arabic names they will provide the Yoruba name. So Kwarans, why? And what do you do to Christians that give their Christian name instead of yoruba name? Your own problem is not kwara, but Islam. You are an Islamophobe,a bigot, and jingoist that hates everything islam in coloration. |

KnowAll: What is wrong with this Ilorin people, they behave like a defeated people despite the fact that the incursion into their land that made them Muslims in the 1830’s was the same continual one albeit subtle incursion into the SW that made several people Muslims in Lagos, Ogun, Oshun, Oyo and Ondo State.
Why do the other Yoruba’s despite being Muslim or Christians still put on traditional Yoruba caps when they dress in native attires? The Kwara people despite being Yoruba just want to belong, their attitude to me appear as someone trying effortlessly to woo the North and each time they try hard, the Northerners spurns such overtures with disdain. Is it not high time they smell the coffee and retrace their steps embracing and celebrating their Yorubaness instead of being an attaché to a Group who does not reckon and want them.
During the last PDP insistence that the Presidential Candidate for the Party should come from the North, Kwara’s Saraki was openly spurned and referred to as a Yoruba man yet the silly guy and the even more sillier new Governor goes around wearing one stupiiiid Hausa cap trying to belong. What is wrong with this people? YOU ARE TOO IGNORANT! YORUBAS,ILORIN PEOPLE INCLUSIVE,PRACTICED ISLAM BEFORE HAUSAS AND FULANIS |

Mr. Kwankwaso posted the picture of his team’s action on Facebook. On JANUARY 26, 2018. Former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso was banned from entering Kano state on Police ‘Advise’ that it may NOT be safe for him and his supporters? Goodluck Jonathan was a very honest man, and Karma is visiting all those that insulted and lied against GEJ while in office. KWANKWASO, HOW MARKET? Honest man indeed! Politics › Re: Brief History Of Obj's Letter Writing by Danladi7: 7:34am On Jan 26, 2018 |
slydog: Brief History of OBJ's Letters
OBJ's involvement in any issue signifies the imminent end of that issue.
1) HE wrote to Shagari when the latter was allegedly mismanaging the economy few months later the military smashed Shagari government in 1983.
2) HE MANGLED IBB’s vaulted economic program—SAP –not having a human face ----
I. An overzealous then Navy Capt Mike Okhai Akhigbe called him a frustrated Old Man II. a jittery IBB knew better and quickly responded with a SAP Palliatives III. Today as we speak IBB is a shadow of himself --- Although Mike Okhai Akhigbe rose to be a Vice Admiral but died some year back --incidentally both men are way his junior in rank and age
3) HE heckled MKO--- SAYING HE IS NOT THE MESSIAH ---- his mandate was annulled & MKO eventually died when he stubbornly fought to restore his mandate
4) He heckled ABACHA -- and described him as a STONE AGE DICTATOR ,
I. Enraged Abacha got him jailed and his erstwhile deputy Maj Gen Shehu Musa Yar’adua detained alongside him ……unfortunately Yar’adua died in Prison II. OBJ death sentence was commuted into prison term, III. HE wrote another letter to Abacha titled NO CONDITION IS PERMANENT, Where he said, "I was a head of state yesterday, today, I'm in jail. You're the head of state today, tomorrow, your condition may be worse than mine...". We knew what happened ----- Indeed, Abacha's future and fate was worse as he ended inside the grave!!!
5) OBJ came back in Power as a democratically elected President ---didn't write himself while in power but instead wrote his deputy, Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku since then has been politically OSCILLATING like a pendulum SWINGING,DECAMPING RECAMPING RETICULATING and ATIKULATING……… This once impressive powerful Politician has become a shadow of his pre-2003 self since then.
Lest I forgot the “Oyi of Oyi”—DR. Chuba Okadigbo—tested his mettle after a VISIT and dinner at his house Dr. Chuba Okadigbo lost his senate Presidency and died later --
6) Although he didn’t write the Late President Shehu Yar’adua, any letter to the best of my knowledge but learnt his voice to the public outcry and publicly asked him to resign!!!-----it became NUNC DIMITIS -----after a prior doctrine of necessity
7) HE upbraided and warned GEJ- in a in a letter titled BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE GEJ volleyed in a sally calling him a motor park tout --- and it became too late for GEJ to act……….
He has written to PMB an 18 page verbal sledgehammer strewn with multiple combination punches –with a devastating 3 punch finishing combo- reminiscent of a Mike Tyson style era
As I post….. 1) The villa is in disarray
2) PMB is in a daze rushed into a Political ICU- needs absolute care else the letter becomes his political abattoir
3) ..it’s obvious PMB is in for a long ride we don’t know if he can overcome this
4) Hitherto protected boastful Babachir – is the first man down from the cabal train –more may follow
It looks like a “Chiller as a Thriller in the Villa “reminiscent of a Mohammed Ali/Frazier Thriller in Manilla”
Would PMB — BITE THE DUST EASILY –if he pushes “his luck and task our patience” as contained in the (coded warning) in OBJ’s letter…………………
WAILERS pray this prayer points in my life I reject to be a recipient of any “EBORA EKUN of OWO” letters
In my life I reject to visited by any EBORA EKUN – of OWO
HAILERS come for deliverance prayers don’t forget to bring your offerings and tithes!!! This will be his last. he migh have won all those people,he has never won tinubu |

musicwriter: Igbos voted for Abiola. In fact, he won convincingly all over the nation.
What the data you sent in actually proves is that Northers understand how to play politics more than any other ethnic group. In other words, they know how to use South-East or South-west whenever it would help them climb to power.
The question is; how are they able to do that? I suggested religion. If not religion, let me know; how are they able to use the South-East or South-west? you are a big liar! Abiola didn't win all Igbo state! Exactly, not use,but allied with thee north more. |

musicwriter: You missed the point. I' am not even interested in religion. What I pointed out is the reason I think it's easier for North to work with South-west and vise versa. I' am not talking about or even interested in intra politics in South-west.
Every ethnic group love themselves as much as Yorubas love themselves, though Yorubas seem to bond more with each other. Your thought is wrong! GEJ loss and the voting pattern that led to it really pained you Igbo people. You started popularizing this thought among you shortly after GeJ lost election which is the first time Yoruba and the north will work together political ly! Going down the history it has always being Igbo people and the north working together... 1959=Azikwe/balewa versus Awolowo 1979=shagari/ekwueme versus Awolowo 1983=shagari/ekwueme versus Awo 1983=Ojukwu (the political leader of Igbo people) contested as senator under northern party of NPN. 1993=Tofa(Igbo voted for Tofa against Abiola) 1999=Igbo voted for OBJ,a northern candidate not Olu false, the Yoruba's candidate 1995=Arthur nzeribe was busy campaigning for Abacha |
Politics › Re: Is Sense Finally Falling On The Igbos And The Yorubas? by Danladi7: 4:10pm On Jan 17, 2018 |
musicwriter: It's only on Nairaland you see such. Islam is the reason the North and South-west feel comfortable with themselves.
Yoruba's even like Igbos. What part of Yoruba land aren't Igbos everywhere? There're even Igbos in farmlands all over Illesha, I believe in Ogun state. There've never been an ethnic crises between the two. I have lived in Lagos for over 20 years and never quarrelled with a Yoruba man. They don't even care where you come from or what you do, once you pay him the house rent on time and you don't make trouble.
Islam is the only reason they work together, exactly how a Christian from the North,South,East,West would want to work with fellow Christians everywhere. Unfortunately, Christians in the South-west aren't the ruling class. Another stupid attempt by a bittered Igbo to incite Yoruba Christians against the Muslims. Now explain these: why no Igbo Christian leader blasted nnamdi KANU during an onslaught on the Yoruba pastors why Azikwe an Igbo Christian worked with tafawa balewa how do you explain Yoruba Muslims overwhelming vote for GEJ in 2011?........ how many southwest governors are currently muslims and Christians.Don't forget that the second most powerful Yoruba man alive today is a christian. |
