*Obiano: "No Amount of Money Will Bring Back The Dead."

By Emeka Ozumba

The Governor of Anambra  State, Chief Willie Obiano has said that "no amount of money will bring back the dead, especially those affected by the recent fuel tanker fire at Onitsha, but assured that Anambra State Government will do its best to ameliorate the situation.

The Governor made the statement during the memorial Mass for Mrs. Ifeoma Obi and her sons who were victims of the Ochanja fire incident at St Joseph Catholic Church,  Awka-Etiti, Idemili South Local Government Area .

Governor Obiano revealed that following  the16th October 2019 fire incident, six persons including the woman and her child lost their lives while ten persons were hospitalized. He said that the Committee headed by Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke reported that a total of 176 businesses/shops were affected, fourteen houses were burnt out of which three were adjudged unsafe and will be brought down to ensure safety of lives. He assured that all those affected will be compensated with over N100million earmarked for them.

The Governor observed that the spate of fuel-laden tanker fall during the period was mind boggling with eight recorded in various parts of the state. Of the number, five tanker heads and their drivers could not be traced. The Governor called on ndi Anambra and residents of the state to be cautious because fire outbreak does not give advance notice. He advised all to always keep fire extinguishers within reach.

Earlier in his  homily, the Auxiliary Bishop of  Onitsha Catholic Diocese, Most Reverend Dennis Isizo reminded Christians that they are on a journey of faith to heaven and that life on earth is temporal.

The Auxilliary Bishop called on the Governor to ensure that approvals for siting of fuel stations fulfill all conditions of the law. He  advised that markets should  have space for Fire officers and Fire Service stations, while individual shops should have fire extinguishers.

The question should be, how many cases of Fulani/herdsmens crisis have been recorded in the State? The answer is none.

Opposition elements always trying to raise dust where there is none. Enugu,Delta and other states where there are crisis, what measures have the Governors taken.

The Governor clearly stated that killing of course is a police matter and we all know what the law says on killing. So don't twist points for political reasons.

Anambra is safe, the end justifies the means.

PoliticsFlooding: Governor Willie Obiano Inspects Dredging Of Sakamori/idemili River by Danniscott(op): 2:50pm On Sep 17, 2019
Happening Now!!!

Governor Willie Obiano seeks end to flooding in Ogbaru/Okpoko and environs, visits Sakamori water canal.

In line with his administration's commitment to ensuring a clean ,healthy and safe Anambra, Governor Willie Obiano today visited the sakamori water canal where he inspected the construction of a concrete retaining wall at the confluence of the Idemili/Sakamori Rivers and the dredging of the rivers to ensure free flow of water all the way into the River Niger.

The sakamori canal collects most of the surface water from Okpoko and environs which it deposits into Idemili River. The river is a tributary to River Niger.

This drainage design appears perfect but the area continues to experience severe flooding.

As a result Gov Obiano tasked a team of experts led by the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Marcel Ifejiofor to study the drainage systems and profer solutions to the flooding menace in the area.

The team discovered that the Sakamori canal empties into the the Idemili river at a sharp 90° angle. It also discovered that the river moves at a current faster than the water from the canal. This causes a back-surge of water and causes the canal to overflow into the streets resulting in the flooding of the surrounding environment.

The Governor awarded a contract to redesign the canal for a better and smoother flow of water at possibly a 45° angle. The contract also involves the building of a retainer wall to forestall overflowing of the canal. Silt will be removed from the canal and the Idemili river will also be dredged for about 6.5km upto to the River Niger.

This will ensure a smooth flow of water through Sakamori canal to Idemili River and further into the great River Niger.

The end of flooding in some parts of Onitsha, Okpoko and indeed Ogbaru LGA is in sight. Thanks to the people-oriented leadership of Gov Willie Obiano.

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has condemned in the strongest terms possible, the ongoing xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other black immigrants in South Africa.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, James Eze, Governor Obiano expressed his disapproval of the virulent attacks which have triggered a dangerous diplomatic row between Nigeria and South Africa.

According to the statement, governor Obiano said; "We are traumatized by the bloody images that have been streaming out of South Africa which is home to a sizable number of Anambra business men and women earning a living across different cities."

Speaking further, the governor said, "We are worried about the colossal loss of lives and property caused by this avoidable mayhem which has become a recurrent decimal in a country that ought to be a better example to other African countries."

He urged the South African government to step in and stop the bloodshed and preserve what is left of the ties that bind South Africa to other African countries.

Earlier today, Gov Willie Obiano arrived Police marine jetty Otuocha on his tour of the riverine communities of Anambra state to ascertain the water level and effects of flooding in the areas.

The Governor started the tour today, August 27, from the Nigerian Police Jetty, near the the correction service facility, Onitsha.

The tour covers communities in Ogbaru, Anambra east and Anambra west LGAs of the state.

Gov Obiano said that he was relieved that the areas visited were calm with no major incident of flooding. He expressed joy that the people are safe compared to 2018 when the areas were ravaged by severe flooding.

He however warned that there may yet be one more month of rains. He urged the people to move to higher grounds to avoid sudden upsurge of water and possible flooding.

The Governor also noted that the state is fully prepared to contain any emergency. "The state government has strategically positioned water ambulances and speed boats to offer first aid and evacuate people should any emergency arise".

Mrs Obiano Restates Commitment of CAFÉ to Donors, Beneficiaries

Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) has restated the commitment of her NGO, Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFÉ) to philanthropists as well as Ndi Anambra, friends and well-wishers who rally to her support in delivering the objectives of the organisation.

She said that CAFE has impacted on the lives of numerous beneficiaries among whom are women, indigent widows, youths and physically challenged persons across Anambra State and beyond.

In a statement by the Chief Media Officer, Emeka Ozumba, Mrs Obiano said that she is overwhelmed by the support and commendation of programmes of the NGO which started formal activities five years ago.

According to Dr. Mrs Obiano, it is interesting that some of the philanthropists who identify with CAFÉ do so silently with strict instruction not to be mentioned. She noted that some are however acknowledged with an appreciation letter and on the plaques during commissioning of many of the projects. “CAFÉ appreciates the goodwill gestures of many of our donors whom we hold in high esteem and in strict confidence”, she stated.

As a social philanthropic organisation that is non-governmental and non-partisan, CAFÉ executes all projects, which include training, equipping and empowering the needy at no cost through the support of philanthropists and other well wishers.

Also, CAFÉ does not request any form of gratification or payment from beneficiaries or potential beneficiaries.

Dr Mrs Obiano therefore urged good spirited sons and daughters of Anambra State and friends and well-wishers to sustain their support for the organisation.

In line with his commitment to creating and sustaining a robust Educatational Sector that will out live his administration, Anambra State Governor Chief Dr. Willie Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano(Akpokuedike Global) today dolled out a total of 714,273,750 Million Naira to the over 700 Catholic and Anglican Mission Schools in the State.

At the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Onitsha, Governor Obiano presented a Cheque of 422,336,250 Million to catholic mission schools and handed over at the St. Andrew's Anglican Church (DCC Nnewi) the Cheque of 291,937,500 Million Naira to Anglican Mission Schools.

A Greater Anambra is here.
PoliticsPublic Opinion: The Leader The Igbos Need by Danniscott(op): 10:00pm On Jul 28, 2019
Ejike Anyaduba

The greatest problem that confronts the Igbo today is not the loss of political position in the country. No, not all! It is the misplaced attention accorded wealth and the uncoordinated effort by the political leadership to stem the drift.

Recently, Senator Orji Kalu was alleged to have said that he was done defending the Igbo. His reasons bear repeating here:

"I know what I lost to politics, defending Igbo and fighting to see Igbo take what belongs to them. This cost me my bank, airline, oil blocks and many other businesses. I lost friends in politics, business and my social friends both at home and abroad. Do you think I would have quarrelled with Obasanjo if not for Igbo? Do you think that I would have left PDP? Do you think I will have been on the EFCC list"?

Kalu is not alone in this. Perhaps he was only guilty of voicing it out. The problem is general. Money has been caused to assume the status of a god in Igbo land and anybody with a whiff of it is pressured to go into politics. Very little attention is paid to other things. Once in office, he struggles to strike a balance between politics and his business. Encumbered by his business commitments, he is condemned to operate at minimal strength and does not hesitate to shut the door against his people's interest once it ties with his business.

WHAT THEN?

What the Igbo need in Nigerian politics of today is not the business man-turned politician. They need a leader who travels light. A leader who is not encumbered by wealth.

A leader in the mould of Ojukwu who forsook his father's wealth to lead a troubled people.

That leader must be noble in character, bold in action, self sacrificing and finds fulfillment not in mundane things like wealth, but in priceless possession of honour.

WHO IS THAT LEADER?

Make a contribution. No insult.

PoliticsPublic Opinion: Anambra; The Limit Of Defamation by Danniscott(op): 10:14am On Jul 27, 2019
Written by Ejike Anyaduba

For months on end, some faceless persons and facebook denizens have seized the public space, especially the internet, to malign the government of Anambra state.

In the group are grouches, political jobbers and a few grudge-bearing characters, determined on avenging some unknown wrongs. They are still sulking over the defeat in the 2017 governorship and 2019 State House of Assembly elections in the state.

Sadly, they are not doing anything differently from the past to compel a better result in 2021. The only difference is the timing. They started early this time, but the content and modus remain the same - vicious lies, slander, mudslinging, defamation, etc. As in the past the same tools are in use again. No word is said or written in commendation of the efforts of the government.

The idea is to create an image problem for the government and make it difficult for it to exit smoothly in 2022.

For this reason a cacophony of voices has rent the air, condemning everything the government does. Every achievement of the government is denied in order to intone lack of performance. To the extent that even the existence of security that has received nationwide commendation is also ridiculed. Nothing of importance achieved by the government has not been derided by this group of persons.
From calling the three beautiful flyovers with flood lights obstructions on the highway through denying of newly constructed roads, improved healthcare services, progress in the educational sector, environment, agriculture etc to accusations of waste.

No achievements of the government is acknowledged. Where it is difficult to deny, they label such projects as efforts of past administrations. So ridiculous is the group that when a turnpike is erected to restrain heavy trucks from plying the bridges, the story is twisted.

It is curious what politics in the state is turning into. It is fast churning out detractors who are quick to concoct lies, but never ever ready to acknowledge an achievement. It does this persuasively and consistently in the hope that when lies are told over time they assume the form of truth.

But thank God the people are discerning enough to tell a bee from a wasp.

YES WE SHOULD CLAP FOR GOV OBIANO

Response to one Ikechukwu Onyia

Arinze Ikebudu

Clearly a horde of villifiers has descended on the government of Anambra state. And it does so with impunity, confident that the internet hardly allows for libel.

At the head of the vicious group is a shadowy character who goes by the name of Odumodu Gbuluagu, but whose true identity has since been established.

Operating from the flank are others who are no less persuaded because of their posttraumatic stress disorder of the 2017 governorship battle and the fear of 2021.

One of them is a certain Ikechukwu Onyia.

This blithering incompetent and barely literate jobber is yet to come to terms with his humiliating sack from a comfortable perch in Senator Ifeanyi Ubah media group.

Eager to launch himself back to some gainful employment, he has chosen for himself the job of a hatchet writer. Sadly, he does this poorly. He is seen everywhere today, struggling for photo ops with all manner of politicians.

A man of no repute, Onyia takes on subjects he clearly has no competence. He writes without information and without knowledge of his tenses. He is just a pathetic case. It is not that his cotravelers are any better, but unlike them he arrogates so much to himself.

Look at this one from the whippersnapper: " Prior to Obiano election, I saw a governor that will not perform and I raised this issue and I was called name". Who is Onyia? A waif who sucks up to every politician just to keep afloat. The last job to his name was the Senator Uba's where he also doubled as a valet.

Look at another: "He (Obiano) SORT for 2nd term". Still wondering when sort became the past tense of seek.

Another: ."....the coastal LGAs HAS been improved". My son in primary one knows what an agreement in language is.

Yet another blunder "Businesses are doing very BAD and his administration DON'T even understand the political economy".

Yet another:..."the sad thing is that it is DRIVE" by young people. Because his success AMOUNT to our state success.

He started failing even from the title of the piece: Gov Obiano: We should keep clapping for him even when he is failing?

Everything about what the fella wrote from his argument, claims and delivery suggests he is way out of touch with what he was writing. He is also limited in knowledge.
My verdict here is that media handlers of Governor Obiano and some of us who admire him from a distance should begin to disregard some of these Notice Me Jobbers.

VALENTINE OBIENYEM IS DOING COSTLY DAMAGE TO PETER OBI's IMAGE.

By Chibueze Nwolisa

As an admirer of Mr Peter Obi, I am worried that his Press Secretary, Valentine Obienyem's aggressive media operations is rubbing off negatively on Mr Peter Obi. From what I heard, Peter Obi is a humble, self effacing man; a practising Christian; indeed a papal Knight. If that is correct, why does his Press Secretary advertise him so persistently and so loudly in the Press? His going to Church on Sunday; seeing his doctor for consultation; attending a birthday party; child naming ceremony etcetra etcetra all have to be splashed and celebrated in the media. That would apply out of official necessity if he was a head of government but he is not. A private citizen who is so paraded comes across as one seeking cheap popularity. I believe it is a disservice to Obi's reputation to be casting him in the mould of someone hungry for psychophancy. To make matters worse, Obienyem has been turning Mr Obi into a god in sharp conflict with the Christian faith that Obi holds on to. Obienyem does not find it self demeaning calling Mr Peter Obi the oracle. What kind of psychophancy is this? By elevating Obi to this absurd level of the perfect being who knows all and who cannot err, Obienyem wrecks terrible violence on the personality of Mr Peter Obi. We see the consuming consequences of this hero worship; this vacuous deification in the ceaseless vilification of the Obiano administration. For Obienyem, telling lies against Gov Obiano is demonstration of loyalty to Obi. Denying the achievements of Gov Obiano is a positive thing to do because it magnifies the rating of his political god. For Obienyem, spreading fake news about Obiano's regime is a commendable act because it is done for love of Obi who regards Obiano as an adversary. But Obienyem is actually doing irreparable damage to Obi. By his campaign of calumny against Obiano, Obienyem projects Obi as a vain, vindictive and vicious character. Obienyem is actually telling us that Obi is committed to the destabilisation of Anambra State. Obienyem is telling us loud and clear that Obi's personal ego is more important than the welfare of Ndi Anambra. I doubt if there is a better way of damaging Peter Obi's reputation than Obienyem is presently doing.
InvestmentFOREIGN INVESTMENT:Gov. Willie Obiano Visits The City Of Orange, New Jersey USA. by Danniscott(op): 8:23am On Jul 09, 2019
Waiting for America

An Address Presented by the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano to Mark the Signing of a Mutually Beneficial Agreement with the City of Orange, New Jersey, USA at the City of Orange Township Municipal Building on July 8, 2019

I bring you greetings from the good people of Anambra State. This is one visit I have looked forward to. I have two reasons for that. First, I have been told that Orange is a beautiful city with a lot of beautiful and friendly people. And secondly, I have also heard that this is one of the cities where we can find the expertise and wise counsel that we need to develop Anambra State.

This is therefore, a historic moment for Anambra State and I believe, for the City of Orange as well. I say this because what Anambra State might not have in cutting edge technology and expertise we have in human and material resources. Anambra is the birthplace of Nollywood; the second largest film industry in the world today in terms of output. Our land is blessed with natural gas, crude oil, bauxite, kaolin, salt, gypsum, lead, lignite, limestone and iron ore among many other natural resources.

We have the largest retail market in West Africa. With an economy of N3.8 trillion, Anambra has the lowest poverty rate in Nigeria with $2.295 per capita. And if Anambra were an independent country, our GDP per capita would have been 17th in Africa. Anambra will be ahead of Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Cote de Voire, Senegal, Tanzania and Rwanda to name a few. We have great tourism potentials with the Ogbaukwu Caves and Waterfalls in Owerre-Ezukala and Ogbunike Cave in Ogbunike. Anambra is the 10th most populous state in Nigeria with a population of 6.5m people and a population density of 860 per square kilometre. And in the past five years, we have been Nigeria’s safest state with crime rate at its lowest in living memory.

Since I was sworn in as governor a little over five years ago, my team and I have been intensely focused on changing the narrative of our people. In doing so, we had declared that our Vision is “To be the first choice investment destination and the hub for industrialization and commercial activities.” We also announced that our Mission is “To create a socially stable, business friendly environment that will attract both indigenes and foreigners to wealth creating opportunities in Anambra State.”

Ladies and gentlemen, five years down the road, I am proud to say that we have walked our talk. We have made Anambra Nigeria’s most peaceful and business-friendly environment and we have attracted a considerable volume of investments over the past five years. We have invested heavily in education and as a result, a group of five school girls from Anambra State shocked the world in August last year when they defeated the United States, China, Spain, Turkey and Uzbekistan to win the Gold Medal at the World Technovation Challenge held at the Silicon Valley, here in the USA. Following the footsteps of our Golden Girls, four boys from St John’s Science and Technical College School, Alor also won the Bronze Medal at the World Festival of Engineering, Science and Technology in Tunisia in March this year. All these give us hope to believe that our future will be brighter than our present!

Our Promise
Ladies and gentlemen, it is no exaggeration to say that Anambra State is the best place to locate an industry in Nigeria at the moment. We have one of the highest literacy rates in the country, we offer access to the largest retail market in West Africa and we have the largest crop of experienced middlemen and suppliers with enough expertise to move goods across Africa. We also have easy access to industrial land which we have mapped out in our Land-Bank and a speedy company registration and issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy in record time. And perhaps more importantly, we have been ranked as the most transparent and accountable state in Nigeria for having complied with International Public Sector Accounting System accounting standards.

What we look Forward to in this Partnership

Ladies and gentlemen, we are looking for partners that will help us exploit our natural resources. We have over 40 trillion standard cubic feet of gas that has not been touched yet. We need partners that will exploit these rich reserves of gas for our mutual benefits. We need partners for the establishment of modular refineries. We also need partners in the power generation, agriculture, agro-allied industries and in the establishment of Industrial Parks.

Above all, we are looking for partners in Education, Healthcare Delivery, Mass Transit and in Leisure and Tourism.

Ladies and gentlemen, Anambra State is at her finest moment in history. Our youths are doing exploits and doing our country proud in science and technology. Our home-bred entrepreneurs are investing heavily in different sectors in the state. Last summer, we took our investment drive to Austria and threw our doors wide open to Europe. Today we are here in the lovely city of Orange to invite America.

Ladies and gentlemen, Anambra is ready. We are waiting for America!

Thank you

PoliticsPublic Opinion: Obiano Is Easily Anambra's Best Governor by Danniscott(op): 2:06pm On Jun 26, 2019
As Written by Ifeanyi Afuba (A Public Affairs Analyst)

By his accomplishments and accolades, you would think he has been in office for ten years. But Willie Obiano has done only five years. Chukwuemeka Ezeife the pioneer Governor was earnest but limited by time, diarchy and civil service orientation. Chinwoke Mbadinuju was self constrained by over politicking and easy compromises. Chris Ngige, tossed about by the contradictions of his ascendancy, managed to make impact in one or two areas; leaving former governor Peter Obi and incumbent Obiano in contention for the star prize. What does Peter Obi's eight year reign bring to the table? A record of satisfactory performance in some areas but hardly anything outstanding. The exception would be with Amaku Teaching Hospital, as it was then called, where the Obi regime left bold footprints. A brilliant student of Anambra's politics aptly defined Obi's years in office as that of a 'minimalist.' The expression is a fitting description of Obi's penchant to stick to the basic level. His administration paid the least public sector wages in the south east. It built sub standard roads across the State which like the MDG toilets, have been systematically collapsing. Three lucky special assistants understood this tokenism policy better when finally succumbing to their request for cars, Obi gave them the mosquito - like Picanto cars. But this average performance was concealed from public scrutiny with defeaning propaganda. A classic example of the trend to exaggerate and mislead the public is the myth of N75b cash handed over to the Obiano regime. Yet, the plain truth is that a committee comprising at least two appointed officials in Obi's govt and retained by Gov Willie Obiano and the career accountant general who also served the two administrations determined that Obi's regime left only N9b cash and N35b worth of investments. How the porous tale of N75b has persisted in the media gives you an idea of the extensive propaganda machinery oiling Obi's politics. Aiming high, Obiano had quickly put in place a security architecture that in a matter of months made Anambra one of Nigeria's safest states. The ensuing social stability and business incentives spurred inflow of investments; and by 2017, Anambra had become Nigeria's fourth fastest growing economy. 85 quality roads have been constructed in parts of the State and many more are ongoing. Substantial investment in education led four Anambra schools to clinch international laurels in the past three years. Along with the landmark Awka flyovers, Obiano constituted the capital territory development authority and road maintenance agency which Obi would not do. Through Obiano's engagement with President Mohammadu Buhari, the second Niger bridge is progressing as well as reconstruction of Enugu - Onitsha express way. The State teaching hospital has been brought to international standard. Outpacing and outclassing Obi with such stellar achievements, envy and bile reared their ugly heads. You can thus understand the periodic attempts by Obi's propagandists to pull Obiano down.

Armed Forces Remembrance Day 2019, was celebrated all over the country on the 15th of January 2019 in memory of our fallen heroes, who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty. Government at both the Federal and State level gathered to pay respect to the departed, pray for their continued peaceful rest and offer prayers for those who are currently in service fighting for the sovereignty of the Country and defending her against foreign aggressors.

In Anambra State, Governor Willie Obiano led service Chiefs from all the security agencies in the State : The Nigerian Army ,Navy, Air Force, NSCDC, Nigerian Legion, NDLEA, FRSC, Nigeria Police etc, to the Late Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka to mark the occasion. Traditional Rulers, top Government officials, students and Ndi Anambra all troops out in their numbers to mark this year's annual event.

Governor Willie Obiano dressed in a full Army Uniform shortly after inspecting the guard of honour, led the service Chiefs, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the Chief Judge of the State and the host traditional ruler of Awka to perform the wreath laying ceremony, observe the 21 Gun salute and the release of white pigeons while prayers were offered for the dead.

The 21 Gun salute evoked a Nostalgic feeling amongst everyone present as most of the fallen heroes died by the bullet and probably heard the gunshot one last time.

Shortly after the event while addressing News men, Governor Obiano referred to the fallen heroes as the pride of the country and will always have special places in his heart having sacrificed everything including their own life for a better Nigeria. He promised to always lead the remembrance and prayers for the fallen heroes while pledging the support of his administration to the security agencies in the State to enable them discharge their duties effectively as Anambra has been rated the Safest State in the country.
Car TalkRe: 100k Salary Enough To Get A Car? by Danniscott(m): 4:25am On Jan 19, 2019
My brother, we only live once. Let's not make this life look like a rehearsal for another life.

If you have saved enough money to buy a car, please do. 100k salary can help you maintain a low maintenance cost car. Owning a car gives you a sense of responsibility.

Just don't think it's a tool for showoff or to get more women.

I wish you the best, enjoy.

Governor Obiano described taking up the rebuilding project as his personal contribution to the church and Christians all over the world.

Facts about St Joseph's Catholic Church -

* The foundation of the now reconstructed St Joseph's Catholic Church was laid in 1937 by Fr Joseph Thomas Delaney in honour of four missionaries who worked and died and were buried in Aguleri.

* The building was completed and opened for use in April 1940.

* The Blessed Rev. Fr. Michael Iwene Tansi became the Parish Priest of St Joseph's in 1949. It was from St Joseph's that Blessed Fr Iwene Tansi travelled to Rome in 1950.

The rededication Mass was celebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Francis Arinze and Catholic Bishops with Hundreds of Christians all over the world in attendance.

Governor Obiano as a dedicated Catholic faithful has proven once again his commitment to the growth of Christianity in his country home and the world at large.
