Coming soon to an Emirates Stadium near you: Karim Benzema is “The Scoring Machine.” As if Arsenal didn’t already have one of the best scoring threats in the league with Alexis Sanchez, they’re about to get enough firepower to burn their Premier League foes to the ground. According to the Metro, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is ready to accept a transfer to Arsenal after the Gunners improved their bid to £50 million. Benzema had previously balked at the notion that he would leave Real Madrid, where he’s played more than half of his senior career, but is now ready to make a move. Reported have insisted for over a week that Arsenal had reached an agreement with the La Liga outfit for the 27-year-old scoring machine, but details have been hard to come-by with no official word made yet. Benzema is expected to arrive in London around the time of Arsenal’s big home match against Liverpool. A €35 million signing out of Lyon in 2009, Karim Benzema has been Real Madrid’s most consistent striker not-named-Ronaldo over the last six seasons. Benzema has recorded double-digit league goals and 20+ total goals in each of the last five years and in seven of the last eight.

Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball national team, D’Tigers, recorded their second successive win in Afrobasket 2015, coasting to a comfortable 98-59 victory against debutants Uganda. Chamberlain Oguchi continued his impressive outing in Rades, notching up 30 points and eight rebounds, with Al-Farouk Aminu complimenting with 14 points. Proceedings was halted for over two minutes (2.17secs) in the final quarter after Stanley Okoye missed what could have been the dunk of the tournament and ended up smashing the backboard. An hour-long break – to replace the backboard – followed before the west Africans closed out an emphatic win. The Ugandans have now lost all of their two matches at the tournament with the Central African Republic awaiting in their final group match on Sunday. Uganda’s Stephen Omwony finished with a team-high 20 points. The Silverbacks had their best run for just the opening 35 seconds of the match, before Oguchi siezed initiatives. Uganda converted just 48 percents of their efforts from the free-throw line and 31 percent of their field-throw attempts; much lower than Nigeria’s 77% to 48% free-throws to field goals differential. D’Tigers will be back on Sunday in the long-awaited Group A cracker against hosts and defending Champions, Tunisia, who take on the CAF later on Friday.

Popular TV host and comedienne, Chigul has revealed a few of the characteristics she finds unappealing about Nigerian men. She disclosed her reasons on this week’s edition of MTV Base Real Talk. While responding to the question from MTV VJ, Stephanie Coker on what upsets her about Nigerian men, she said, ‘I don’t like men who assume because they have small money, ladies should just jump and follow… Sometimes the money is not even real, it’s in their mind…that’s very annoying’. She also answered questions from fans including Udeh Chukwunonso Celestine who asked about her marital status. ‘Are you married or when are you getting married?”. Chigul replies,‘It’s complicated, let’s leave it there’ and jokingly added, ‘Nonso come o. Help yourself, Knock on my door, I will open for you’. Another fan asked, ‘What are some of the things people don’t know about you? and in response, she said, ‘A lot of people don’t know that I am a certified French teacher and I speak five languages. I am also a jazz singer and can do a lot of things with my hands’. Chigul

Arsenal’s hope of signing Mario Gotze has been given a huge boost, after reports came out that the midfielder wants a move to the Emirates. The German attacking midfielder who has been a long time target of the Gunners is believed to have fallen out with boss coach Pep Guardiola and is likely to be on his way out of the club. The Metro believe that he is actively seeking a transfer from Bayern Munich. Bayern already told him to make up his mind about his future quickly last week according to the Telegraph, and it seems he has done just that. Arsenal are already well stocked with players in his position, but knowing Wenger’s record of buying players that may seem like luxury to the team but will later turn out to be important –taking Ozil as an example, he is likely to go after Gotze. Gotze is a more goal minded attacking midfielder than Ozil, and can fill in all the positions behind the striker. He can also play as a center forward, and it won’t be surprising to see Wenger convert him to one.

Arsenal are interested in PSG pair Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi with Eurosport [via the Express] stating that a £45m bid for the Parc des Princes duo could prove successful. Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal side are lacking a truly prolific goal-scorer with first-choice forward Olivier Giroud failing to hit the heights over the course of his three years at the Emirates Stadium. Despite being something of a fan favourite, it’s clear that Giroud, whose tally with the North London club stands at 59 goals in 137 appearances is solid if not spectacular, is not a player who can be relied upon to bag 20 goals a season. Wenger would do well to rectify that fact before the summer transfer window slams shut. 28-year-old Uruguayan Cavani is certainly a player with a proven record when it comes to scoring regularly, and even when used primarily in a wide-attacking role, as he has been under Laurent Blanc for much of the past two seasons, the powerful marksman has still managed to accrue 56 goals in two campaigns in the French capital. Prior to his move to Paris, the South American scored 104 goals in three seasons in Napoli. That return even more impressive when you consider the defensive prowess of many of Serie A’s sides. It’s tantalising to imagine the impact Cavani could have in tandem with the Gunners’ existing offensive options. Interest in 30-year-old Argentine Lavezzi is harder to fathom as it’s not clear that the versatile attacker, who works most effectively out on the flank, offers Wenger an improvement on the options he currently possesses in that respect. Arsenal have a plethora of players who can be used as wingers with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott perhaps being Wenger’s most often-used weapons. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck are strong back-up options, whilst both Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla, although better in other positions, are also more than capable of also filling in out wide.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is believed to have made a phone call to Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema to discuss over a possible summer move to the Emirates. The France international has been a consistent performer for the Capital outfit in recent seasons. However, he has struggled to make a clear impression among the club's faithful, and has been tipped to exit the Bernabeu during the summer transfer window. The Gunners have had long-term interest in the France international and The Mirror cites that Arsene Wenger made a personal phone call to his countryman over the possibility of swapping clubs this summer. |
