Romance / Why Wait For Miracles by dapenholder01(f): 8:46pm On Apr 26, 2019
On a street made of gold,
We have our hands clustered together, without a morsel for the night,
Yet the Echo lifts our voices from the cliff.
Why wait for miracles when you are one yourself.

In our cave that forbids the deadly cold,
we'll sing along with the crickets.
You can cry when you think no one is looking, we all do anyway, but
Why wait for good luck, when you can wish yourself thousands.

Come let us splash the waters with laughter,
and dance to the rhythm of the wind.
Why wait for an angel when you have me by your side.

Family / Free Me by dapenholder01(f): 3:24pm On Apr 22, 2019
Like every other day in his entire life time, Tunde woke up with a frown on his face, the thought of Monday's school stress is enough to have caused it coupled with his family's unending prayer routine. His father's crazy bell every 5am made him want to swear, 'our time keeper had better learn how to ring the bell from your Dad' Daniel had teased him severally and he could not help but laugh when he said that the only thing that differentiates their morning devotions from a church service is that they don't collect offerings and tithes.
He had once thought of hiding the bell for a whole week, but Baba Tunde's room is a fortress even his wife has no free entry.
The devotion has always been the same, anyone can predict the next prayer point, their mother's next praise song, and just like singing is important, saying a loud Amen is importanter even if you didn't know the prayer. A little drop in the loudness of your Amen brings a slap on your face.
He had forced them to pray for their Sister's soul to return home, and they kept binding the Devil for the past three years, but who is he to tell his parents that the Devil had no hand in her lifestyle. Even he cannot wait to have the tiniest taste of freedom.

"Be a Doctor" they keep telling me, "what about a Pilot... Tunde just bought another house on the Island, or engineer nko? They get paid in lots of zeros you know"...
But how do I tell them I want to be a singer? How do I tell them my heart beats at the faintest sound of the drums. Science bores me, urrghh, Newton law is suicide and chemistry class is hell's replica, I'm literally in another planet. Please bring me back with the strike of the strings and open my soul with the keys.
Well then, let me close my eyes and hear my own voice in my head now that I've been handed the whole plan of my life, the future I don't see my self in, I can only see a shadow...my parent's only son, who is a doctor

The sound of the rain upon the roof brings the memories of our shared wrapper
The cold breeze that followed reminds me of the sparkle and fire your touch gives me,
Miles away but I'm there by your side and you are here at mine,
now close your eyes with me and let our imaginations take us to each other's arms.
