TeamLeader: Can you elaborate sir. The land is a flat area and dry. The site is at shimawa. I just want to know if there won't be problem if I only do the German floor and not do the beam.
Thank you for your response OK, I'm not familiar with that axis, But if it is your site engineer that advised to do it, then you can go ahead and do it. Or you can check if other people building around you did it. Ciao |

fxtree: Hi all , I have a structural drawing and a bill of quantity that suggested using laterite for filling but my engineer said they often use sharp sand in the Simawa area ( in Ogun State) as the soil on the site is soft plaster sand and prone to shifting. The sharp sand improves its stability.
Please show true is this because 20 tonnes of sharp sand is quoted at 170k while laterite is quoted at 70k. Kindly advise Is the area waterlogged? If it is, there's a particular type of laterite that you can use. It's cheaper than sharp sand. If it's dry solid ground normal laterite is okay. Also make sure your oversite concrete floor is at least 175 - 200mm thick and properly Reinforced for the first instance. |

TeamLeader: Good evening builders in the house. I've been following for some times now and please I want to ask;
Is FOUNDATION BEAM necessary/compulsory when building a duplex? Though German floor will be done. And would there be any effects on the long run if the beam is not done but only the German floor.
Pardon my ignorance abeg na money matter I de consider. Thank you Depends on the soil type |
