Besides, the state governments will now be involved in the distribution of food items. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq stated this while briefing State House correspondents after meeting behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The Minister also said that the Ministry will now focus on the urban poor as it carries out with President Buhari’s directive on the distribution of palliatives to cushion the effects of COVID-19 on Nigerians. According to her, “You are aware that the President in his broadcast of Monday 13th April, directed that we expand the beneficiaries of the conditional cash transfer by one million and in this regard, we are going to focus more now on the urban poor. “These are people who depend on the informal sector to earn their livelihood; they are daily wage earners and these are the people that we are really going to focus more on as well as people living with disabilities.” Giving details on how to identify the beneficiaries of the stimulus, she said that the Ministry has three options to be adopted in selecting the beneficiaries of the scheme. Presiding Bishop of God First Ministries Inc. Isaac Idahosa has come out to berate critics of his fellow clergy Rev. Dr. Chris Oyakhilome, President of Believers Love World Incorporated, popularly known as Christ Embassy over his claims that there are established links between Fifth Generation Network, 5G, Covid-19 and the anti-Christ that the scripture had foretold. In a recently well circulated video, Oyakhilome in a sermon streamed live, had stated that the lockdown order by the Federal Government of Nigeria was a ploy to enable them install 5G in Abuja and Lagos. He cited that 5G was the real reason most people are currently sick and some dying around the world. The revered cleric had pointed out that the Covid-19 pandemic was created in order to popularize the 5G network which is gradually gaining attention across the world. According to him, 5G was part of the new world order to establish one government, one world religion and one world economy. The cleric posited that with the 5G, the COVID-19, and the vaccine, the new world order will achieve its aim of connecting the entire world with the mark of the beast. He exposed that with the attention given to the vaccine because of fear and the love for the fifth generation communications technologies, everyone will embrace it as a solution to their problems. In his opinion, Bishop Isaac Idahosa admits to holding Oyakhilome in high regard because, according to him, the later is an ivory of knowledge and a man of great intellectuality. According to Idahosa, instead of criticizing Oyakhilome and trashing his claims, critics should have asked for evidences, because, he believes the cleric would not have spoken if he was not convinced about his claims. “…He is a man I respect so much, and a man of the spirit. Who is also full of intellectuality. He is a man who does not just speak. This is the first time I’m hearing him speaking out (on issues of national concern). I’m very sure if he doesn’t know what he was saying, he would not have spoken. It is always good for us to hear from the horse’s mouth. “Like he did said, bring out your facts, these are my facts, let’s put them on the table. Let’s learn from each other. Iron sharps iron. These are my take, Pastor Chris would not speak out of the blue. He must have seen something, or read something, or he knows what we don’t know,” he said in bits. Speaking further with ngg.ng on the state of the nation, and how the government is handling the pandemic outbreak in Nigeria, Idahosa maintained that although, the Federal Government did not act fast enough to nip the situation in the bud, however, the efforts of the government are commendable, however, they still leave more to be desired. He opined that the government should pay more attention to developing the health sector. “…Although, the Government did not act fast enough to handle the outbreak of the pandemic in the country, notwithstanding, we still commend their efforts so far. We only need to improve on the model we are creating from this pandemic going forward. Our health system is in porous state and I appreciate the honest of Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation who recently opened up that the nation’s health sector was in a bad shape. “After Covid-19 is over, some of the created isolation centers should be retained as medical centers to decongest existing general hospitals. More medical equipment should be invested in, such as ventilators it doesn’t speak well that we have only few ventilators not enough to cater for our sick population. Nigeria can become a medical tourism country like India and Germany and the rest, if we invest resources appropriately,” he concluded. China on Wednesday ended its lockdown of Wuhan, the city where the coronavirus first emerged and a potent symbol in a pandemic that has killed tens of thousands of people, shaken the global economy and thrown daily life into upheaval across the planet. But the city that has reopened after more than 10 weeks is a profoundly damaged one, a place whose recovery will be watched worldwide for lessons on how populations move past pain and calamity of such staggering magnitude. In Wuhan, sickness and death have touched hundreds of thousands of lives, imprinting them with trauma that could linger for decades. Businesses, even those that have reopened, face a wrenching road ahead, with sluggishness likely to persist. Also, Neighborhood authorities continue to regulate people’s comings and goings, with no return to normalcy in sight. Furthermore, The Chinese authorities sealed off Wuhan, an industrial hub of 11 million people, in late January, in a frantic attempt to limit the outbreak’s spread. At the time, many outsiders saw it as an extreme step, one that could be tried only in an authoritarian system like China’s. But as the epidemic has worsened, governments around the world have enacted a variety of stringent restrictions on their citizens’ movements. However, Coronavirus Cases in the world is 1,432,686 while 82,124 death recorded and 302,324 have recovered. The equipment received includes two ventilators, two ICU beds, two infusion pumps, One Vital Signs Monitor and One Suctioning machine. In her remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker expressed her gratitude to RCCG and its leadership for their sense of responsibility towards supporting the State government’s response and preparedness for Covid-19, describing the church as exemplary. She said that though essentials such as masks, gloves and hand sanitizers are needed for infection prevention control, it was also necessary for the State to have adequate intensive care equipment in place in case of a surge in cases of Covid-19. On his part, the Assistant General Overseer, Administration and Personnel, RCCG, Pastor Funso Odesola, said that the handing over of the medical equipment to Ogun State was part of his church’s contribution to government’s efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 in the State. Ogun State has commenced the disinfection of public places in its efforts towards combating the Coronavirus in the State. Flagging off the exercise at Kuto Market in Abeokuta, the State Capital. The secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, said the exercise which was done simultaneously in Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu and Ilaro, would see markets, parks, police stations, schools, shops, among others disinfected. “The whole idea is because we know that Coronavirus can stay in a place for between six to eight days, so we are going to do this from time to time to make sure that our people are not contracting the virus. “We are deploying different grades of equipment appropriate for different purposes like fire trucks, backpacks and other equipment mounted on vehicles as well as about 900 personnel that have been assigned in all the four divisions of the State to carry out the exercise,” he explained. Mr. Talabi said though it may take time to get to some of the high-traffic areas, there is assurance that places usually with large populations would be disinfected as government does not want the places to be sources where people may contract COVID-19. The State’s Chief Scribe noted that the exercise would be a continuous process, while enjoining the people to partner with government by disinfecting their homes, especially now that children are at home, to guard against transmitting the virus through them. The SSG, while assuring the people that chemicals used in the disinfection exercise, though highly effective against virus and bacteria, are not toxic, as they do not affect the skin or surfaces, enjoined them to watch out for people with symptoms of the virus and call 08001235678, for urgent response from government health officials. Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Environment, Hon.
