Webmasters / Re: Web Designers/developers Stop Charging Below 50k For Any Project. by darrysobby(m): 6:20pm On Oct 22, 2013
@winexviv

There are literally "millions" of "website designers" in Nigeria because any one who undergoes a crash course in HTML calls his/herself a website designer, but of course with varied degree of skill and depth. The availability of very affordable templates (both HTML and CMS) also added to the reality that just about anybody can build a website within a short time. You can't compare it with dentistry which you need a formal education and license to practice.

If you do outstanding website design and development work, then you will demarcate yourself from the other "website designers" and you can confidently select your clients and set your prices without the feeling that you are ripping anyone off. In fact, the clients will come looking for you.

I am not supporting those who charge so little and you will usually see the value in the shoddy jobs they do, but you can't blame any man for legitimately trying to be competitive for survival and sustenance.

So like Dual Core said, you have to live with this reality and trust God to open doors of big-paying-clients for you. I wish you the best.

Webmasters / How Do You Take Down A Phishing Website? by darrysobby(m): 10:01am On Aug 03, 2013
I just saw the following post on facebook:

"Phishing Alert ::: Fake First Bank website ----

http://nycera.org/mowino/securedd/additional/naming.htm
"

and I immediately sent the following to firstcontact@firstbanknigeria.com

"Below is a link to a fake first bank website requesting personal information from people. Please treat this as urgent and make efforts towards bringing down the website.

The link is http://nycera.org/mowino/securedd/additional/naming.htm

The domain whois does not reveal much but it reveals that the sponsoring registrar is godaddy.com. Report the website to godaddy.
"

I hope they act on it urgently. It just got me wondering, how can one bring down a phishing website?

Nice job GraphicPlus. I'm a fan of your work.

1. Under the headings "security, speed and support", I suggest you should use images/icons more tailored to suit each specific heading.
2. I think you should also add a bit of animation to the logos, maybe changing colour or popping out a bit on mouse-over.

Once again, nice job.

Business / Re: Where To Print Scratch Cards In Nigeria? by darrysobby(m): 1:14pm On Nov 03, 2011
Hello card printers in the house. I want to print some scratch cards (small quantity, about 2000 - 5000 pieces) and i'm looking for the best offer.

I'm designing a website for a client who wants applicants for his event to purchase a scratch card and register on the website with the unique number on the cards. Please I just want figures (the cost of the printing). Thanks.

deco2come:

Do you mean something like Jamb scratch card?

Yes, something similar. I can't picture exactly how the jamb scratch card is but what i want doesn't have to be complex with lots of security features. The front side will basically contain bold text and graphics design while the back will contain contact info and the coated part where the unique number will be.

Please where and how can a I print a scratch card for an event registration?

Basically, i want applicants for the event to:

1. buy the scratch cards from the bank
2. use the number found on the card as part of login credentials on the website for the event

I have sorted out the website issue but still at a loss of how to go about the scratch card printing.

Thanks in anticipation of you good advice.

Webmasters / How To Create A Customised Facebook Landing Page by darrysobby(m): 4:27pm On Aug 22, 2011
I wanted to create a landing page for some of my Facebook pages (like the beautiful ones you find on the pages of theses big companies), so I went in search of the app that could do the job best.

For the benefit of those that do not know what a landing page is (no offense to the webmasters), a landing page is simple the first page your profile visitors will see when they visit your profile.

Please follow this the link below to read the post on my blog.....

I hope this is helpful. smiley

Bawss1:

This is a great resource. I imagine there might be some copyright issues that prevent some works from being available here but that does not diminish the value of this repository. Simply great.

Bawss1, you are very correct. The least one can do is to preview the books. I previewed Chinua Achebe's "Things Fall Apart" and I was able to learn more about the man from all the intros the book had. I've not read the full book but now I appreciate the man better.
Webmasters / Please Help Me Check This Business Model by darrysobby(m): 11:21am On Aug 10, 2011
Can a Nigerian company selling website templates online make it in Nigeria?

My thoughts are that since payment should mainly be done online, are the Nigeria community really into paying for things online, especially when it's a non-tangible thing.

Also, are Nigerians willing to pay for website templates in this age of cracking and nullifying stuff?

My intention is to take open-source technology to the homes of people via a world-class website that not only sell premium templates but gives off free templates, free training & support to people.

Not a new idea i guess but just wanna hear your opinions about this.  smiley

queenesthr:

I've just gone there. How do you get to read the books?

Hello Queenesthr.

The easiest way to read the book is to roll your mouse over the book and select "Read Now" from the dialog box that pops up. (Check 1.jpg)

Another way is to click on the book you wanna read and then select "Get It Now" on the box at the right side of the screen, then you select "Read The Book." (Check 2a.jpg & 2b.jpg)

I hope this is helpful. smiley
