Hundreds of Deltans showed up on Saturday at the Osubi Airstrip in Osubi, Okpe council area of Delta state, to await his expected return of former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori. Ibori recently served out a 13-year jail term in the United Kingdom and was discharged from prison on December 21, 2016. He was convicted for money laundering by the British court. Several people, across social boundaries, lined out at the Osubi Airstrip, near Warri, and his Oghara hometown in Ethiope West council area, waiting for his arrival. Well wishers and kinsmen of the former governor, including former aides and incumbent political office holders, elected and appointed, started arriving the airstrip from about 10am. All were still waiting as at 2:30pm, the filing time of this report. At his Oghara hometown, excited kinsmen and women shut the entire town down with business outfits like shops and markets closed for the day. Many residents of the town had gone out to line the ever-busy Oghara Junction point of the East/West Road, waiting for the arrival of the former governor. Explaining the mood in Oghara town to Nation, a member of the Oghara Youths Association, Kparobo Ehvwubare said the whole town had been excited and had made representation in the grand reception for their hero. “The Oghara Youths Association is already at the express waiting for him. The palace has also sent a delegation, including His Royal Majesty, the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, accompanied by the Onugbrogodo of Ogharefe and Ogharekhi, as well as the Iyasere, to the airport to receive him. “The Oghara Social Media Group has also led a delegation to the express to await his arrival, mounting banners at strategic points. The council chairman has also led a delegation to the airport to receive him. “Because of his benevolence and good antecedents in Oghara, many shop and stall owners as well as markets, of their own volition, decided to shut down today to honour him and to all come out to receive him, there was no official call for businesses to be shut down today, they just decided to do it,” he said. Some of those at the airport to receive the former governor were council chairmen, members of the state’s House of Assembly, appointed office holders, traditional rulers, youths and other social bodies. Among those present were the Secretary to the State Government, Victor Ovie Agas; Commissioner for Environment, John Nani; chairman of Sapele council area, Ejaefe Odebala; chairman of Ethiope West, Solomon Golley and chairman of Okpe council area, Prince Godwin Ejinyere. Others were the Managing Director of DESOPADEC, William Makinde; Pius Ovbije (POC), a commissioner on the board of DESOPADEC, Chief Emmanuel Ighomena, a Senior Special Assistant to the governor; Chief Emmanuel Ganiga, National President of the UK branch of UPU; Chairman of DSIEC, Mr Moses Ogbe and member representing Okpe constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori. The waiting parties at both the Osubi Airstrip and Oghara town were still on edge as at about 2:30pm, when this report was being filed. Sixteen months since the inauguration there is increasing disappointment that President Muhammadu Buhari has not delivered on his lofty promises. Some Nigerians consider that Goodluck Jonathan was so far a better president than Buhari. I am surprised that informed Nigerians will take it upon themselves to spread the kind of information they are spreading about Muhammadu Buhari which can rarely be proven. Most of those spreading the rumours are either too young to know or remember what happened yet they passionate disseminate distorted information. Worse still they are creating a comparison between the military rule of over 30 years ago with the civilian rule that started six years ago! To save you the stress of verification, most of what will be brought up are things you also remember so well. The facts are there and you can check them out or simply deny them. 1. It was under Jonathan’s watch that $20 billion (note that it is dollars) got missing from the NNPC account. Instead of probing the issue, he fired the whistle blower (Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi). 2. Barely six months after that, PDP in a single gathering raised 21.5 billion naira for election campaigns! The governors who raised 1 billion naira collectively still owed salaries in their respective states in arrears of 3 to 6 months! 3. Our former aviation minister, Ms. Stella Oduah bought only two BMW cars for 255 million naira! When I know that even a bullet proof Lincoln stretch is sold for 70 million naira. She was neither fired nor probed! 4. The Farouk and Otedola gate is still there till date where a lawmaker who should probe fuel subsidy scam was said to have received more than 600 million naira in bribe. 5. Your president openly says ‘how much did Jim Nwobodo steal? Money that is not enough to buy a Peugeot car and Buhari jailed him. 6. The second Niger bridge Jonathan promised has not materialized in 6 years. 7. Jonathan had 10 private jets in his fleet. 8. Madam Deziani was alleged to have spent 10 billion just leasing and flying private jets around the country. She bold refused the invitation of the House for a probe because ‘Oga at the top’ will not let anything happen to her. 9. In presidential media chat Jonathan said corruption is different from stealing! So he feels it’s okay for Nigerians to continue paying taxes and for a few to continue stealing? 10. We all remember so well the saga of Nigeria Immigration Service where more than one million Nigerian unemployed youths were made to pay N1000 each. It turned out to be a job scam and many still lost their lives. No DG or consultant managing the recruitment process has been prosecuted till date. 11. Buruji Kashamu, a wanted drug baron in the United States, is walking free in Nigeria because President Jonathan refused to hand him over to the US Government. That is the same person he has made one of the PDP leaders in South West. He is not contesting to go to the Nigerian Senate. Nigerians will recall that it is the same Kashamu that went to court to try to stop the launch of President Obasanjo’s new book ‘My Watch’ because of the exposure the book will give him.

President Buhari has reportedly urged Sambo Dasuki to return stolen funds and regain his freedom. President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly ordered the release of National Security Adviser, NSA, Col Sambo Dasuki. According to a report by Vanguard Newspaper, President Buhari recently directed relevant authorities to recover funds said to have been misappropriated by Dasuki while in office and set him free. The aide said, “I can tell you that the President is not comfortable with the continued detention of Dasuki despite the offences he allegedly committed against Nigeria and its people. “The only condition Mr President has asked Dasuki to fulfil is to refund the huge sum of public funds which were allegedly diverted under his watch as the NSA. “And I want to tell you that we have the approval of Mr. President to release him (Dasuki) from detention as soon as he brings the money,” the official said. This is coming few weeks after the ECOWAS regional court has granted Dasuki bail saying his arrest by the Federal Government is not in accordance with his Human Right. In December 2015, the Department of State Services, DSS, had arrested Dasuki for allegedly misappropriating $15 billion of funds meant for purchase of arms for troops fighting Boko Haram terrorists in the North East. ![]()
