The fall-out from Nigeria's dramatic defeat to South Africa in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday looks set to continue after one player branded the absence of official match balls a "national disgrace". https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0C9A/production/_96462230_saballs.jpg Bafana Bafana won 2-0 in Uyo to record their first victory over the Super Eagles in a competitive match. But the game was overshadowed by the use of footballs borrowed from the South African camp. The Super Eagles turned up at the ground without balls approved by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) because the entire consignment of 250 sent to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is still stuck at a port awaiting clearance. Nigerian players had been training with footballs from their kit sponsors and only got a feel of the 2017 Caf balls during the pre-match warm-up. To borrow match balls from your opponent is not only bizarre but embarrassing Nigerian player "It's not the reason we lost but we trained with different balls only to use another ball for the game," said one player who requested anonymity. Another player also speaking on condition he is not named said: "To borrow match balls from your opponent is not only bizarre but embarrassing." https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0C9A/production/_96462230_saballs.jpg NFF officials have not exactly been forthcoming either on the matter which left them with plenty of egg on their faces. Back in January Caf sent 250 footballs to Nigeria for use during Champions League, Confederation Cup and international matches. The balls were apparently sent to the wrong address and the NFF only just discovered the error when tracking the consignment. "We are working on it now and remain confident that we will get the balls out before the weekend," an official told the BBC. The NFF tried to use the 2016 match balls in Uyo but both the match commissioner and referee declined. |

A Nigerian lady got booted out of a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Abuja for allegedly attacking a female air hostess on Tuesday. According to reports, trouble started after the Nigerian asked the white hostess to give her water, but the hostess refused because the flight had not taken off. After a while, the Nigerian lady confronted the hostess and asked her for water again to which she obliged saying: “It’s not time to give out water, we give out water after the flight takes off not before take off”. The lady was said to have smashed the cup out of the hostess’ hand and spilled water on her body. The hostess got angry and reported to the head pilot who immediately contacted the police to remove the lady from the plane. Watch the video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GX-YF_nb26E

spite the global nature of the attack, few networks and companies in the United States appear to have been hit. The reason, say cybersecurity analysts, is a combination of luck, geography, and adherence to software updates, though the United States is by no means invulnerable to such attacks. Employees monitoring possible "WannaCry" ransomware cyberattacks at the Korea Internet and Security ...more YONHAP, EPA The ransomware encrypted all the files on an infected computer and demanded the equivalent of approximately $300 in bitcoin, an untraceable digital currency, to unlock a user's data. It began Friday and quickly spread, infecting computers at Spanish phone company Telefonica, one-fifth of the hospitals in the United Kingdom — forcing some doctors to halt procedures or turn patients away — as well as automaker Renault and U.S. shipper FedEx. Over the weekend, it hit thousands of computers in Asia. But fears it would bring companies to a standstill Monday morning weren't realized. “The good news is the infection rates have slowed over the weekend,” said U.S. homeland security adviser Tom Bossert in a press conference Monday. He said the attack affected more than 300,000 victims in 150 countries, but only a small number of U.S. parties fell victim. U.S. federal systems hadn't been infected, he said. STORY FROM THE UNITED STATES TOUR OPERATORS ASSOCIATION Travel like an Israel insider U.S. roots but few U.S. infections The WannaCry ransomware takes advantage of flaws in unpatched copies of some versions of Windows, especially Windows XP. Users still running that operating system, which Microsoft stopped supporting three years ago, were vulnerable to an attack. Microsoft issued a patch to fix the vulnerability on March 14 but many systems did not install it. Ransomware has existed since at least 2005, but this one is different, making the attack more worrisome. Unlike typical ransomware hacks, which require an individual user to open an emailed attachment or click on an advertisement that contains malicious software, the WannaCry hack appears able to transmit itself without the user doing anything. “WannaCry is the first one to completely automate,” said Craig Williams, a senior technical leader at at Talos, the security research arm of tech company Cisco. The ransomware spreads from network to network, using a vulnerability taken from cyber tools released in an online data dump by a group calling itself the Shadow Brokers. Some cyber analysts say the group stole the vulnerability from the National Security Agency. Asked in a press conference on Monday whether the code had indeed originally come from the NSA, Bossert it “was not a tool developed by the NSA to hold ransom data. This was a tool developed by culpable parties, potentially criminals or foreign nation-states." He did not address the issue of whether the original exploitable flaw the ransomware was based on came from NSA cyber tools. The swift-moving spread of the malware over the weekend prompted some to fear a second wave of locked machines and halted systems on Monday. Adding to those fears: security analysts said unblocked variants of the original malware were attacking. While the initial version of the ransomware was disabled within about seven hours, at least 469 copycat variations have been released since Monday, according to Andreas Marx with AV-Test, a German-based security testing company. The United States may have dodged the attack because companies keep software updated, pressured by the threat of lawsuits. “We’re more litigious, companies know there will be consequences if they’re not adequately protected,” said Ed Stroz, co-founder of Stroz Friedberg, a New York City-based digital risk management firm. U.S. companies and individuals are also more security-conscious — and, frankly, wealthy enough — they can afford to run security programs that proved protective against the software. Pirated versions of Windows blamed Another reason computers in the United States were not so hard-hit is that companies and individuals in the United States are much less likely to run pirated versions of the Windows operating system, said Adam Levin, chair of CyberScout, a data risk service. That’s not always the case, especially in Asia and eastern Europe, which appear to have been hardest hit by the attack. “If you buy bootleg software, and we know this is a big problem in other parts of the world, you may be taking on risk you didn’t even realize you were taking,” Levin said. Not every country or company is as aggressive about security patches as it should be. “The U.S. generally has (paid) more attention to security than other countries may," said Sean Dillon, a senior security analyst with RiskSense Inc. People who are running older computers and software may be more vulnerable because they don't necessarily have access to the newest security bells and whistles. “Because of the way in which the worm spreads, its success will be directly correlated to organizations that have the vulnerability still open. It’s reasonable to assume that there are large populations of those systems in certain countries,” said Steve Grobman, chief technology officer at McAfee. Another explanation has been that WannaCry was not actually active for very long before it was shut down by a 22-year-old security researcher in London who goes by the name MalwareTech. By most accounts, it only ran for about seven hours, from 3:30 a.m. ET on Friday to about 10 a.m. ET. Because the malware spread from unprotected network to unprotected network, it relied upon quirks of geography and topology to propagate. Networks within countries and regions tend to be more densely connected than those physically distant from each other, so with the largest sites of infection in eastern Europe and Asia, there weren’t as many likely jumps it could make to the United States. Had it found one early on, the U.S. could have been much more heavily hit. Timing, proximity and luck all played parts, said Stroz. “I never take luck out of the equation,” he said. On strategy. I discovered the rulership in Nigeria became corrupt because they perfected the art of using religion and tribe to win the body, soul, and spirit of the Nigerian youths. They are in power because the abled body youths are working tirelessly for them, even for peanuts. The looters keep big loots, and keep these boys jobless but with little money here and there. They are able to divide because they tell some, the Yorubas are the problems... they tell another, it is the Igbos, and they tell others, it is the Hausas. My brother, the first strategy is to point to the youths that.. it is all lies. The criminals ruling us are from everywhere... they are a cabal. They hang together. Some are not even in government; they are in business. They are in various other spheres of life. But all of them are together. They meet sometimes openly or secretly. The youths must first get this, come together, forget our tribal and religious differences, and work together to upstage these permanent rulers. Macron upstage the powers in France, from the outside. Virtually unknown. Once we can set up a way for people to register, the world will see our strength. The truth is we are more in number than the 10% running the country. Everyone that will register will pay #100. That's like recharge card money. With that, we can raise multi million in money. That's what is needed. Politics is a game of number and money. The movement will then be registered as a political party. The youths who will run for political office won't pay to run. The 100 naira contributed or invested by members will serve that purpose. We will only make sure youths of impeccable characters are running. My people, Nigeria is about to truly change. |
The former Central Bank Governor, and Emir of Kano His Royal Highness Muhammadu Sanusi the second , surprised guests present at the Muson Centre for the launching of the book of Sir Olaniwun Ajayi. Below is his unedited speech. “Let me start by saying that I am Fulani (laughter). My grandfather was an Emir also fulani my uncle and guardian was also the immediate late Emir of kano Alhaji Ado Bayero and therefore I represent all that has been talked about this afternoon. Sir Ajayi has written a book. And like all Nigerians of his generation, he has written in the language of his generation. “My grandfather was a Northerner, I am a Nigerian. The problem with this country is that in 2009, we speak in the language of 1953. Sir Olaniwun can be forgiven for the way he spoke, but I cannot forgive people of my generation speaking in that language. “Let us go into this issue because there are so many myths that are being bandied around. Before colonialism, there was nothing like Northern Nigeria, Before the Sokoto Jihad, there was nothing like the Sokoto caliphate. The man from Kano regard himself as bakane. The man from Zaria was bazazzage. The man from Katsina was bakatsine. The kingdoms were at war with each other. They were Hausas, they were Muslims, they were killing each other. “The Yoruba were Ijebu, Owo, Ijesha, Akoko, Egba. When did they become one? When did the North become one? You have the Sokoto Caliphate that brought every person from Adamawa to Sokoto and said it is one kingdom. They now said it was a Muslim North. “The Colonialists came, put that together and said it is now called the Northern Nigeria. Do you know what happened? Our grand fathers were able to transform to being Northerners. We have not been able to transform to being Nigerians. The fault is ours. Tell me, how many governors has South West produced after Awolowo that are role models of leadership? How many governors has the East produced like Nnamdi Azikiwe that can be role models of leadership? How Many governors in the Niger Delta are role models of leadership? Tell me. There is no evidence statistically that any part of this country has produced good leaders. You talk about Babangida and the problems of our economy. Who were the people in charge of the economy during Babangida era? Olu Falae, Kalu Idika Kalu. What state are they from in the North? “We started the banking reform; the first thing I heard was that in Urobo land, there will be a curse of the ancestors. I said they (ancestors) would not answer. They said why? I said how many factories did Ibru build in Urobo land? So, why will the ancestors of the Urobo people support her? “We talk ethnicity when it pleases us. It is hypocrisy. You said elections were rigged in 1959, Obasanjo and Maurice Iwu rigged election in 2007. Was it a Southern thing? It was not. “The problem is: everywhere in this country, there is one Hausa, Ibo, Yoruba and Itshekiri man whose concern is how to get his hands on the pile and how much he can steal. Whether it is in the military or in the civilian government, they sit down, they eat together. In fact, the constitution says there must be a minister from every state. “So, anybody that is still preaching that the problem of Nigeria is Yoruba or Hausa or Fulani, he does not love Nigeria . The problem with Nigeria is that a group of people from each and every ethnic tribe is very selfish. The poverty that is found in Maiduguri is even worse than any poverty that you find in any part of the South. The British came for 60 years and Sir Ajayi talked about few numbers of graduates in the North (two as at independence) . What he did not say was that there was a documented policy of the British when they came that the Northerner should not be educated. It was documented. It was British colonial policy. I have the document. I have published articles on it. That if you educate the Northerner you will produce progressive Muslim intellectuals of the type we have in Egypt and India. So, do not educate them. It was documented. And you say they love us (North) more than the south. “I have spent the better part of my life to fight and Dr. (Reuben) Abati knows it. Yes, my grandfather was an Emir. Why was I in the pro-democracy movement fighting for June 12? Is (Moshood) Abiola from Kano ? Why am I a founding director of the Kudirat Initiative for Nigerian Development (KIND)? “There are good Yoruba people, good Igbo people, good Fulani people, good Nigerians and there are bad people everywhere. That is the truth. “Stop talking about dividing Nigeria because we are not the most populous country in the world. We have all the resources that make it easy to make one united great Nigeria . It is better if we are united than to divide it. “Every time you talk about division, when you restructure, do you know what will happen? In Delta Area, the people in Warri will say Agbor, you don’t have oil. When was the Niger Delta constructed as a political entity? Ten years ago, the Itshekiris were fighting the Urobos. Isn’t that what was happening? Now they have become Niger Delta because they have found oil. After, it will be, if you do not have oil in your village then you cannot share our resources. “There is no country in the world where resources are found in everybody’s hamlet. But people have leaders and they said if you have this geography and if we are one state, then we have a responsibility for making sure that the people who belong to this country have a good nature. “So, why don’t you talk about; we don’t have infrastructure, we don’t have education, we don’t have health. We are still talking about Fulani. Is it the Fulani cattle rearer or is anybody saying there is no poverty among the Fulani?”, he said. This is a great message to our generation. In 1923, nine of the wealthiest people in the world met at Chicago's Edge Water Beach Hotel. Their combined wealth, it is estimated, exceeded the wealth of the Government of the United States at that time. These men certainly knew how to make a living and accumulate wealth. Attending the meeting were the following men: 1. The president of the largest steel company, 2. The president of the largest utility company, 3. The president of the largest gas company, 4. The president of the New York Stock Exchange, 5. The president of the Bank of International Settlements, 6. The greatest wheat speculator, 7. The greatest bear on Wall Street, 8. The head of the World's greatest monopoly & 9. A member of President Harding's cabinet. That's a pretty impressive line-up of people by anyone's yardstick. Yet, 25 years later, where were those nine industrial giants? Let’s examine what happened to them 25 years later. 1. The President of the then largest steel company (Bethlehem Steel Corp), Charles M Schwab, lived on borrowed capital for five years before he died bankrupt. 2. The President of the then largest gas company, Howard Hubson, went insane. 3. One of the greatest commodity traders (Wheat Speculator), Arthur Cutten, died insolvent. 4. The then President of the New York Stock Exchange, Richard Whitney, was sent to jail. 5. The member of the US President’s Cabinet (the member of President Harding's cabinet), Albert Fall, was pardoned from jail just to be able to go home and die in peace. 6. The greatest “bear” on Wall Street, Jesse Livermore committed suicide. 7. The President of the then world’s greatest monopoly, Ivar Krueger, committed suicide. 8. The President of the Bank of International Settlement, Leon Fraser, committed Suicide. 9. The president of the largest utility company, Samuel Insull, died penniless. What they forgot was how to "make" life while they got busy making money! Money in itself is not evil; it provides food for the hungry, medicine for the sick, clothes for the needy. Money is only a medium of exchange. We need two kinds of education: a) One that teaches us how to make a living, and b) One that teaches us how to live. There are many of us who are so engrossed in our professional life that we neglect our family, health and social responsibilities. If asked why we do this, we would reply that "We are doing it for our family". Yet, our kids are sleeping when we leave home. They are sleeping when we come back home!! Twenty years later, we’ll turn back, and they’ll all be gone, to pursue their own dreams and their own lives. Without water, a ship cannot move. The ship needs water, but if the water gets into the ship, the ship will face existential problems. What was once a means of living for the ship will now become a means of destruction. Similarly we live in a time where earning is a necessity but let not the earning enter our hearts, for what was once a means of living will surely become a means of destruction for us as well. So take a moment and ask yourself, "Has the water entered my ship?" I hope not! Hope the above story will drive all of us in a better direction in life. ''Alone I can 'Say' but together we can 'talk'. 'Alone I can 'Enjoy' but together we can 'Celebrate'. 'Alone I can 'Smile' but together we can 'Laugh'. That's the BEAUTY of Human Relations. We are nothing without each other. |
