My goodness! Some people have no fear of God. A couple was caught at Ebeano supermarket in Lekki yesterday evening May 16th, using fake pregnancy to induce sympathy and make shoppers part with their hard earned money.

They were caught after they approached a man and asked him for money, telling him they had no dime on them. The man saw a female friend at the supermarket and told her he wasn't convinced the woman was pregnant with the way she looked. He asked his friend to use her feminine eye to look at the supposed pregnant. Continue to read the rest of the story...


The couple were then asked to take as much foodstuff they wanted from the supermarket. The man's female friend then tried to feel the woman's stomach and the woman immediately jumpd. So she took the 'pregnant' woman to a corner and asked her if she was really pregnant and she said yes. Not convinced, the lady asked if she could feel the stomach and the woman panicked. But the lady managed to feel it and it was all cloth and she alerted her male friend. The woman was then forced to show the fake bump.

A crowd gathered and not surprisingly, quite a number of them said they had given the couple money at one point or the other. They were later handed over to the police. Photos below..

Boston Marathon bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 21, was this evening sentenced to death for killing three people and injuring 264 people in the 2013 Boston attack. Dzhokhar and his older brother planted two home-made bombs near the finishing line of the Boston race, killing people and causing grave injury. Some lost their legs. His brother later died in a shootout with police.

Dzhokhar had faced a 30-count indictment, with 17 of the charges carrying the death penalty. The jury at his trial today said they were unanimous on six of counts that Tsarnaev should be administered a lethal injection. 

According to CNN, as the verdicts were read out, the former college student showed no emotion but several people in the public gallery broke down in tears.

The Federal Accounts Allocation Committee on Friday shared the sum of N388.339 billion among the three tiers of government as revenue allocation for April.

However, states and local governments have denied knowledge of any remittance of $1.48 billion which PricewaterhouseCoopers instructed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to pay into the federation account.

Addressing journalists at the end of FAAC meeting on Friday, the chairman of Commissioners of Finance Forum, Barr. Timothy Odaah, said the states were not aware of remittances from the NNPC.

“Mr. President has directed that the money be paid into the federation account. The Minister of Petroleum Resources did the same too, but it is important to note that we have not seen anything,” he said.

Questioned on the inability of some states to pay civil servants’ salaries, Odaah blamed the state governors, saying,”if workers salaries could not be paid as at when due, what is their priority then? Why have those states refused to pay workers? Paying workers’ salaries is not an achievement of any government. It is naturally expected that people must be paid for services rendered.”

FAAC approved for sharing N75.160billion from Value Added Tax( VAT) as against N71.197 billion.

A gross revenue of N282.062 billion was received for the month as against N315.044 billion in the previous month.

The United States on Friday issued Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza a stern warning against running for a third term, saying it 1would “exacerbate” the country’s instability and threaten international aid.

Washington was deeply concerned about the
“potential for further violence” after Nkurunziza returned to the country, said Jeff Rathke, a State Department spokesman.

General Godefroid Niyombare, who launched the coup in the central African nation earlier in the week, told AFP by telephone that he wanted to give himself up.

Coup leaders have been arrested and others have been forced on the run by loyalist troops.

The dramatic end to the coup attempt ended 48 hours of uncertainty over who controlled the small, landlocked and impoverished nation, which has been gripped by a political crisis over Nkurunziza’s controversial bid to run again for the presidency.

“The US position is that President Nkurunziza… should not stand for a third term,” Rathke told reporters.

The president’s decision to run “has and will continue to exacerbate instability… in the country,” Rathke warned, only a day after he had stressed Washington still regarded Nkurunziza as the legitimate president.

“This threatens the viability of the Burundian government, and it increases the risk of violence and instability that can threaten donor support.”

Rathke renewed calls on all sides to exercise restraint, after the State Department late Thursday ordered the families of all US government staff to leave the country.

Amid continuing uncertainty, the US embassy was closed on Friday.

Rathke warned anyone thinking of any revenge attacks that “the world is watching and that they should be held accountable.”

Washington could slap visa bans on anyone seen as responsible for such violence.

Patience Jonathan, Friday, handed over her role as the President of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM), to her successor, Jadiya Hamdi Mohamed, first lady of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in Abuja.

The hand over ceremony took place at the Office of the First Lady Federal Republic of Nigeria, in Abuja, during the 8th AFLPM Summit of the mission which comprises of wives of Presidents of all African countries.

The tenure of Patience Jonathan which started when she was elected as the mission’s President at its seventh summit held in Abuja in July 2012 is supposed to have expired in July 2015 when a new president would have been elected.

However, Mrs. Jonathan summoned an emergency summit of the mission on Friday, where she handed over to her successor.

It will be recalled that the action of the president’s wife was earlier calculated by critics as a ploy to prevent the wife of the President-elect, Hajiha Aisha Buhari, from replacing her as President of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM).

Meanwhile, Patience has cleared the air saying it is mischievous for anyone to scheme such allegations to cause disaffection between her and Buahri’s wife.
