I got a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G recently and it came with dual SIM. I did a factory reset to wipe off the settings and all that was there so I can start afresh and then ran into an issue. The phone refused to boot up.
After much attempts, I was able to start in boot mode and reflashed the original ROM unto it (Korean) which changed it back to single SIM and since then, I lost network connectivity. Currently, the phone is only useful on wifi and no mobile network connection.

Please help. What can I do to get a fully functional phone back?

PhonesRe: Starlink Increases Monthly Subscription Price In Nigeria by daves2ng(m): 9:46am On Oct 24, 2024
Please I need help activating my starlink.

I got a new starlink kit from Jumia around March 2024 and ever since then, I have not been able to activate it ever since.
I reached out to starlink and after more than one month of back and forth, I was told I can't activate in Lagos because they are at capacity in Lagos and Abuja.

Just yesterday, October 23, 2024, I decided to turn it on again and I got 1-hour free internet on it(got about 150mbps download) and since it was browsing, I attempted to activate it again, though now expensive at 75,000 a month, I got immediate error after inputting my Lagos address that the service is not available in my location.
I attempted with an Address in Oyo and it took me to the checkout page but my fear is, if I proceed to activate with the Oyo state address (hopefully it goes), won't I be locked to that region only and not able to use it here in Lagos where I need it actually?

Please I will appreciate any help from anyone with a similar experience or got a way out of this.

I posted this here too

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Did You Receive This Message From Nigerian Youth Investment Fund? by daves2ng(m): 9:05am On May 26, 2022
I went to a branch close to me here and they gave me a form to fill without even confirming the SMS nor checking any list. Upon checking the form, it's a LAPO account opening and loan request.

I spoke with the guy for clarification as the scheme calls it grant and not loan but the guy grudgingly admits that it is a loan.

In my opinion, LAPO is using the opportunity to lure people to getting loans from them basically so this is indirectly a scam as federal government is not involved at all.

I think they got a list of those who applied for the federal government grant then and riding on that to lure you into loan.

So if you want to go for it, just be prepared for loan and ensure your repayment.

Nice write up. how much is GRE and can someone use GRE to study medical related course for masters
If you followed the link to the main blog posts, there are active links to appropriate places which nairaland normally does not allow.

Anyways, as of today GRE cost is around $220 but you can get some pretty good discounts with some accredited agents and centers. I will try and get a list of these and post in my next article
TravelStudy In The US For FREE And Earn Also - Tips And Guide by daves2ng(op):
I know a lot of you are wondering if this is real, well I can say Yes it is because I have direct experience with it and I would be sharing with you how I did it and also sharing from the experience of my friends that also went through the same process.

Sit back and enjoy this brief article and I hope it would help you to achieve your dreams of coming to the U.S for studies.

Fully funded Scholarship in Japan 2019/2020

Just like any other life decision will make every day, which requires hard work, dedication, commitment, passion, and some financial sacrifice, Studying abroad also does as well, like they say, nothing good comes easy but I can assure you that it would all worth it, talking from experience.

Please note that this is not a process of just filling out forms online and you're expecting a miracle, it takes lots of determination, many processes, personal research, and some financial commitment, but don't worry that's why we are here to guild you through the whole process and help each other.

Some of the frequent questions I usually hear are;

I didn't graduate with a First Class or Two-One, is it possible for me to get Funding?

The answer to this is YES you can! Let me explain this briefly, the U.S education system does not use a class of degree, rather they focus on specific GPA score, I can say if your CGPA is anything from 3.2/5, you would be fine, just make sure that your other applications are strong, good GRE (I will talk about that later), good SOP, recommendations ETC.

Practical guides to writing perfect SoP

But I don't have lots of money, what can I do?

First, I would mention that these processes require lots of financial investments (never let that scare you at all please). These include The Test (GRE, TOEFL, etc), Application Fees (I believe these should be expected), cost of sending transcripts, evaluation (Your Results from Nigeria need to be compared with their standards over there in the US. Click here to learn more) and others. I always advise people not to look at the overall cost of everything but rather, take it one after another, that was how I went about it, I didn't have lots of money when I started, but I kept taking it one after another and like I said before, it worth all the investment. We are talking about coming here to have your Master's degree at no cost, getting monthly stipends and having the chance to stay behind after graduation, the benefits are huge, trust me.

Immigration chances in Canada you don't want to miss

As a Nigerian who went to a public school and graduated with a Second Class (Lower Division) and got admission to study in the U.S with Full Funding and monthly stipends (believe me, this is more than the salary of some managers in Nigeria), I think you will be able to learn one or two things from my experience. Here is my brief profile;

Course of study: Electrical Engineering

Grade (GPA): 3.43/5

GRE: 300 (I will explain this later)

Work experience: ZERO

After my Graduation I heard about G.R.E (Graduate Record Examination), I have never heard about it until that moment (talking of 2012), I know you're probably wondering what a GRE is about, don't worry I will get into that in a minute. I made some researches about the exam and I started studying for it, like I said previously, 'Nothing good comes easily', you must be able to sacrifice today for a better future.

I studied for the exam for about three months and then I took it.

I will briefly talk about G.R.E now. A GRE is an important part of the application to a Graduate School - (otherwise known as Masters Degree back home) in the U.S and some other selected North America Countries, it's required by most schools for admission process and more importantly it can increase an applicant's chances of getting a Funding (Graduate Assistantship).

Read more on GRE here

I can say it is not an 'easy' exam, not like your usual tests during your Undergraduate, it would take an average of two to three months of proper studies and preparation to scale the test but the advantage is huge and it worth every investment that you might put into it.

Like I said, it plays a very big role in getting Funding/Scholarship. And moreover, if you are from a country where getting a Visa is difficult (like our dear country Nigeria), this exam might increase your chance during a Visa interview with the consular.

Every school in the Us has there unique requirements for GRE exam, your best bet is to look up on your prospective school's website and check their requirements (Click here for a ranking of schools in the US).

From personal experience, I can say a score of 300 and above is fair. Please look up GRE grading system here.

There are basically two types of the Exam, 1. the Paper-based and 2. Computer-based. I strongly recommend the computer base for everyone.

Also, the test is divided into two types (Click here for an in-depth comparison between the two types); 1. the General GRE and 2. Subject GRE. Again, I strongly recommend the General GRE type which is the most common type and I can say about 90% of schools in the US would require that. The Subject Base is very uncommon and rarely required.

In as much as you can still get into many schools here without this exam, I strongly recommend you attempt it, especially if you're seeking for Funding/Scholarships, also it would boost your chance of securing Visa.

Watch out for Part 2 which will detail on how to 1. Search for schools 2. Streamlining your applications and applying to the right schools 3. How to send emails for funding and get approved.

Good day,
I saw a Nissan Quest 2001 recently and it interests me. Everything seems to be working fine but when I told a friend, he advised not to buy it because "they say" it gives issues.
Please I need some candid professional advice before taking the steps.
What issues am I likely to expect and how easy is it to get parts and repairs done?

Thanks in advance

This is a very important post. I have been reading a lot of different articles on how to various essays, CVs and statements of purpose. But this post is probably the best among others. I liked that you explained what to disclose in each paragraph. It's very helpful for the understanding of the structure of the statement. There are many different tools across the web that you can use in order to make your writing even better. I myself use https://edubirdie.com/rate-my-paper. This service helps me understand where the weak points of the writing are and to resolve them. I recommend using some tools to ensure that your writing is perfectly written.
Thanks for the link. appreciated. help share the main post so others can as well benefit.

Thanks again

There is a previous post on how to write the perfect statement of purpose but so very many people have been responding privately asking for expatiation as they do not really understand hence the need for this follow-up post hopefully with more clarity. In this new post, I have also done more research and will be highlighting these areas alsoWhat is SoP?Is SoP really that important? How really do I start writing an SoP?Things to avoid putting in your SoPWhat is SoP (Statement of Purpose)Just as the name is, it simply means the reason for doing something. In other words, the motivation for doing what you intend to do and in this case, seeking admission into that school. It simply describes you as a person, your motivation (a convincing reason you chose the course you are pursuing and the school) and this is the main document the admission committee will check before you can get the admission. An SoP is a document which shows your passion, clarity of thoughts, dedication, inspiration, and most importantly, uniqueness. Is SoP really important?Sometimes, some people, even very brilliant minds think and believe that having a great GRE score or having the perfect CV will guarantee automatic admission. While this can greatly boost your chances - and are of course very important, your SoP does more. Each institution receiving applications have an admission committee in charge of these admissions and they have never seen you nor heard anything about you, your SoP is what stands in for you.It is your SoP that tells this admission committee why they should pick you over thousands or millions of other applicants. In short, it is the most important document you will submit and can well decide whether you are accepted or rejected. How really do I write an SoP?An SoP is more akin to an essay and there is the tendency for it to be boring hence you need to know how to place your points appropriately to catch attention even in the first few minutes of someone reading it.Just as this is the most important document you are submitting for the application, you need to put in ample time to perfect it. Never do it in a rush. Ideally, you should make several drafts, review yourself over and over and give others to review for you as it just has to be perfect. Here is a list of useful tips to help you get started; You may start with a little quote and show how this inspires you especially in relation to your chosen field. It is not compulsory it is a quote but most times these give good ground for starting.
Paragraph 1 - You can describe like your childhood moment when you had a particular passion for something and how that lingered on to the point of influencing your decision for the current chosen field. You play with this area but make it short.
Paragraph 2 - Brag about your current achievement in a very polite way of course. Your undergraduate results, extra credits earned, awards received etc but be subtle. Make sure everything you write about your past achievements does not deviate from your current chosen field of interest.
Paragraph 3 - Talk about your project and how useful and impactful it is. Explain your publications (if any) or research works including independent research.
Paragraph 4 - Talk about why you chose the country e.g. US as your postgraduate destination country. Explain briefly why you chose the course/university and the likes. You are supposed to have done enough research about the schools to be able to talk well about facilities and features that make them unique.
Paragraph 5 - Explain your short term goals and long term goals. Write carefully and make sure you have researched well to defend anything you put down
Concluding paragraph - Write short closing convincing that you will serve really well in the university.Things to avoid when writing your SoPWhile you brag about your achievement and result, try and be very subtle about it. Rather than just boasting about it, rather write how your results have kept you motivated and more resolute.Watch your language. Be as formal as possible and don't be tempted to using colloquial or informal terms. ensure your grammar is also accurate and consistent.Avoid Plagiarism. You can borrow ideas from others but always make sure there is an original touch to it and you should be able to defend it.Make sure your SoP is more inclined towards the course and university rather than some side attractions you plan to engage in.Do not make your paragraphs too long and boring. Remember will be read by humans and not computers. After spending so much time researching and writing, you need to ensure your SoP is safe. The people that will read it have seen many and you don't want to risk yours being seen before you present it.

PoliticsYou Can Contribute Your Own Part To A Credible Election - NIGERIADECIDES2019 by daves2ng(op): 4:39am On Feb 16, 2019
For almost the first time, it is now possible for the common citizen to actually report elections live as it happens and be a part of a credible election process in Nigeria.

Nigeria's democracy is still very much at its infancy stage and it is the collective responsibility of all her citizens to make sure this democracy grows and matures and Nigeria gets to where we all aspire it to get to.

2019 is another election here and we all have the responsibility to make sure that it is a success and surely it will be.

I was en route my destination on an Okada ride on election eve and a discussion ensued in line with the current 2019 elections with the Okada rider and he made a comment which has been prevalent for a while but hearing it again pricks my heart.

He said and I quote, "whether I come out tomorrow or not to vote, they already know who will become the next president".

What pains me is not whether he is saying the truth or not neither is it whether his statement is the reality or not, but what pains me is the fact that the same ideology has been on for so long and not expecting that at this stage in time and with technology, people still don't know and understand the power they wield in controlling the outcome of elections.

We as citizens need to be reminded that we have to power to choose whoever will be our leaders and not just some people someone who will make the selection for us.

If we don't have that power, politicians wouldn't be going about campaigning and soliciting for our votes. We just need a reorientation and an understanding that the power is in our hands and we need to exercise it.

As patriotic Nigerians and good citizens, the elections are starting on the 16th of February, 2019 with presidential and National Assembly seats, we are implored to go out en masse and vote for our chosen candidates.

While you are exercising your civic duties, please remember that;

YOU HAVE THE POWER TO CHOOSE WHO BECOMES THE NATION'S LEADER AND YOUR VOTE COUNTS.
DO NOT SELL YOUR VOTES
VOTE FOR YOUR CHOICE CANDIDATE BASED ON YOUR CONSCIENCE
DO NOT PARTAKE IN ELECTION VIOLENCE.
YOU CAN ALSO BE AN INDEPENDENT ELECTION MONITOR AND MAKE YOUR OWN CONTRIBUTiON TO CREDIBLE ELECTION
If you are a YALI Network member, you should also have gotten the memo from the United States Embassy about the crowd-funded election monitoring app where you as a citizen can also make your own contributions and report the elections proceedings for a credible 2019 polls.

If you are not a YALI NETWORK member yet, you can simply follow this link to join and get lots of benefits like free online courses for personal development, business development and more especially to make your voice heard with regards to free and fair elections by joining #9JAVOTES2019. Click here to Join

The name of the App is called ZABE and it can easily be downloaded to your Android and iOS devices where a user profile will be created and you can learn the app usage to be able to also report the election as it happens in your area.

For android users, you can download the app via this link. DOWNLOAD NOW

For iOS users, simply visit the application page for links or go to Apple AppStore and search for the App "ZABE"

The sustenance of democracy in Nigeria and Success/Failure of this 2019 elections depends on you and you can really make lot more difference than you thought you could.

EducationThe Destruction Of Black Civilization... by daves2ng(op): 8:19pm On Feb 03, 2019
Great Issues of a Race from 4500 BC to 2000 AD - By Chancellor Williams.

The book is the summary of a scholarly research published in 1971, and has become a treatise on Black History. To function effectively as policy makers able to find African solutions to African problems, it’s necessary to first understand the African story, particularly one told by an African. According to the author, “we study the past for the express purpose of learning what things made the race great in the past, what explains subsequent failures and weakness, and what, in the light of that history, we can do now - if we have the will. This is what the study of history should mean for African people in particular."
However, the history that’s taught in schools in Africa is basically the stories of the earliest foreigners on the continent. A typical African child first learns to be proud to know “Mungo Park discovered River Niger”; but later finds it, if ever, preposterous to say as s/he grows older. But that was how the story was, and is still being told! Considering distortions and concoctions like this being inexorably perpetuated, it becomes necessary for Africans to learn their true history, and not what foreigners decide they need to know. This is exactly the point where this book finds its essence.

Historical problems of the race are discussed extensively, and sadly enough, a repeat of history is still observed today. This makes the whole story relatable and equally disagreeable. When the nation was disunited and too weak to resist foreign incursions, the Black race began migrating from their ancestral home (Egypt) in a bid to find better conditions for the sustenance of life and escape slave-hunting, taking his civilization with him. The author claims these migrations from “conflict zones” fostered the creation of splinter ethnic and language groups which Western writers present to aver ancestral disconnection among member groups of the race, and further their disunity.

It is easy to mistake the author’s passion for anger: particularly his fervidness for the development of African nations, and in some instances, his desire to have the written history the other way round. Far from this, the reader is convinced from the second chapter that until Black nations can be built into economic power houses without foreign influence, Africans might not be able to escape the negative stereotypes they’ve been locked into for ages. With this, the Black man is made to understand that accepting to be more French than a Frenchman or more English than a Briton is to agree to the position of an inferior.

In discussing the fall and rise of strong pre-colonial African states, the author presents a blueprint for reverse engineering of the status quo and resuscitation of the historically vibrant and enterprising African spirit. According to the author, "when, if ever, Black people actually organize as a race in their various population centers, they will find that basic and guiding ideology they now seek and so much need is embedded in their own traditional philosophy and constitutional system – simply waiting to be extracted and set forth."

Besides the evils of climate change in ancient empires built around the Sahara, the reader arrives at the conviction that the Black man cannot be absolved of any blame connected with the downfall of his race and civilization. Disunity, disloyalty, egocentricity that knows no bounds, and backstabbing fellow countrymen in a bid to ingratiate themselves with the self-proclaimed “master" isn’t a new development. As a contemporary example, Thomas Sankara embarked on the task of nation building without foreign aid, but was eliminated in a coup masterminded by a “kinsman” on behalf his “master”. Although globalization now calls for cooperation among nations, this disheartening lack of vision for future generations meant a deliberate setback in the development of Burkina Faso.

The author’s message is clear. He argues that the inspiring parts of Black history can still be repeated if Africans believe in themselves and determine to walk the process. Martin Luther King (Jr.) said an individual hasn’t started living until s/he “can rise above the narrow confines of individualistic concerns to the broader concern of all humanity.” This applies if Africans desire their nations’ growth and peoples’ prosperity. If they work together to promote equality, social justice and welfare of the people, group solidarity which is a necessary condition for progress will follow a natural course. The author passionately nurtures this idea in the reader’s mind.

Chancellor Williams posited that the concentration of slavery on Blacks was reinforced by the ruling class’ insatiable desire for riches and consolidation of power. This is a bitter truth yet manifest in today’s realities. Despite being the richest continent in terms of mineral resources, the poorest people on earth are found in Africa, as they are still being “enslaved” by the political class for pecuniary gains. This is observed across the continent, and hints of an inherent leadership problem. However, times of peace, security and prosperity were only experienced during periods of strong leadership throughout Black history. To attain those heights again, Africans in their respective nations need to unite, banish self-preservation and timidity, speak and take actions against bad leadership.

The typical “King and Council of Chiefs” traditional institutions which are based on principles of consultation and fairness in representation was the system of government generally practiced in Africa centuries before “democracy” was coined in the West. Clearly, conformation to Western standards isn’t a condition for development: in the wisdom of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist!” Considering the magnitude of the systemic rot, the reader then realizes that there is no quick fix to the issues at hand and pro-people leaders might need long periods in government to spearhead the restructuring of the foundations of Black nations. It’s unlikely that any administration will fix it in four years using patented Western methods. But who can be trusted?

Furthermore, it’s hard to come to terms with the truth that religion, which birthed the earliest civilization, eventually became a bane of its builders. It formed a tool employed by predators and opportunists to subjugate entire Black communities. But shouldn’t it be appalling that religious officers still wield great influences in African communities today? This shows that the deliberate destruction of the true story, and retelling it in a form that fits imperialists’ agenda deprives Africans the opportunity to understand the problems of their societies and take decisive actions able to lift their nations and continent out of the present quagmire.

Consequently, it is pertinent that governments of African nations review what history, and how it is being taught in their schools. The story of Caucasians in Africa only supports the prevalent idea that neither Africa nor do Africans have any significant history or civilization before their incursions. The proliferation of such stories, at best, will only make an African child feel inferior in identity and intellectual capacity. While stories might carry different connotations depending on who the narrator is, everyone still deserves to be properly educated on the history of his or her ancestors whether good or not. In the words of Tara Westover, “the ability to evaluate many ideas, many histories, many points of view, is at the heart of what it means to self-create.” Self-discovery is the goal of this kind of education. Africans must act contrary to blame instincts, and it also behooves them to know, as Viktor Frankl puts it, that “no one has the right to do wrong, not even if wrong has been done to them.” The best revenge is to unite in building Africa, and prove oppressors wrong!

The importance of mass education of Africans on their “African-ness” is emphasized. However, more important is the fact that the stories the next generations are told must be different. Africa has had enough politicians, those who don’t seem to be having enough of their “profession of talking”, swaying the populace with their “gift of gab.” The current need is for a new generation of “doers”, those who understand the dynamics of leadership and are prepared to work for the good of the exploited common man. Since the current “democracy” practiced in African nations only furthers the enrichment of a select few, these new crop of leaders cannot be mentally lazy. They must be able to work out an economic program, which might draw upon positive aspects of other systems but must be Africa-oriented.

There’s so much to learn from the book on issues that put African nations in precarious situations and at the mercy of scavengers, both home and abroad. It’s recommended for young Africans preparing for leadership and policy work across the continent. The first two chapters are quite hard to comprehend as they contain esoteric discourses on the methods employed in the study. However, they also set the background upon which later chapters were developed, and the efforts of the author is more appreciated as progress is made. The many misspellings that paint the pages do not befit a seminal work as this, but they do not detract from the central message of the book.

EducationAll Expense Paid, FULLY FUNDED Scholarship For Bsc, MSC And Phd by daves2ng(op): 11:27am On Jan 16, 2019
Seems some countries and government understand and value education more than the way most African countries and Nigeria especially value education and I believe this is why many of them give scholarships and grants for education.

With Academic Staff Union Of Universities in Nigeria on strike and there seems to be no permanent solution in sight, the Turkish Government is offering an ALL EXPENSE PAID SCHOLARSHIP to study in their country.

All expense paid including flight ticket, stipends for feeding and accommodation and other miscellaneous.

I know some people may be deterred or think that since Turkey is not an English speaking country there may be some obstacles but that isn't an issue at all as most of the courses are offered in English Language except for one-year language learning which is fun.

This offer is too good to be missed which is why I encourage as many as are reading this piece not to waste any more time and apply immediately.

Application opened already January 15, 2019 and closes February 20, 2019 so no time to waste at all.

And application process is completely FREE OF CHARGE so no need to worry about paying an agent or whatever to do it for you. All you need is a laptop and a good internet connection.
