And I think your claim to have read my threads is not exactly true or you'd know my position on what you chose to believe. You'd definitely not be asking me to "give Jesus a chance" if you had read any of my posts!

Try this one by Shepherd and get back to me when you know me better.
I understand that you seem to be open to the idea that Jesus Christ "is a great guy, but I don't subscribe to all that He taught in the Bible", but that's exactly the foundation of where you've missed it. If you so miss this very basic truth that you can't choose to like God or Jesus Christ ON YOUR OWN TERMS and that a child-like attitude of BELIEF is needed, nothing else you do or say about God matters.

If you like, print out the whole words in the Bible and paste them on the walls of your home, it'll only be a false comfort to your heart. It's like a child whom his mother told to go wash the dishes, but instead chose to go clean the rest room in defiance, thinking since both are house chores he's excused. Think about it twice.

Change my mind from what and to what, exactly? And why do I need to become a Christian? In fact, what exactly do you mean by "become a Christian"?

As to being afraid. Know that I am buda. The buda who openly walks in the valley of the shadow of death.
Hello Buda, it's already becoming an endless cycle of back-and-forth arguments or intro I was avoiding.

I wanna believe you're afraid of seeing the truth, but whilst still quoting the Bible. In fact, it's so crystal-clear that you are. grin
If you give Jesus Christ a chance, I bet you that you'll SEE that whatever comfort, definition of life, love and "peace" that your current comfort zone(s) offer/s is fleeting and a false representation, and the real comfort and peace that Jesus Christ offers is what you need.

As you can see, there are people following this conversation and I would not wish to deprive them of learning from you.

You did say you read my threads and have stated things you claim to know about me, so, I can hardly be a stranger to you. And nor do you have to converse in private for it to be on a "personal level".
. My mission is not to to argue with the crowd or to present my thoughts on an intellectual level, because it's very obvious that what YOU need is not an intellectual conviction to change your mind. If back and forth arguments here on Nairaland or reading of philosophical or critical books on religion or Christianity (which I suppose you may have read up to one hundred)—could convince you, you'll have become a Christian before now. Are you afraid your world might come crashing down if you are presented with something that may be too convincing to discard?

No, its not ok. I do not do "private conversation" about what I discuss here. I prefer having them in the open where I can not hide and so it can be seen.
Oops! I wanted to converse with you on a personal level, not as strangers arguing endlessly on a forum.

Hello sir, i will like to sincerely apologize for disrupting your conversation with budaa, i felt this was a thread for all to air their views openly and at such acquire knowledge from eachother. I hope i didnt disrespect you in any way sir? Its not in my nature to do so. If you would please kindly continue so we could all learn, for what is knowledge if not properly scrutinized ? Thank you and God bless.
No sir. I took no offense. Do have a great day.

I blame Christ! I can't help selling all I got and giving it to those who have none. It's just such a pity God refused to create me as a Christian.
I've finally found where you made the statement I mentioned earlier.

You may. But I suggest you reveal what you want here.
Is that a condition? grin
It's still about what we're discussing here, but it'd be more appropriate for it to be a private conversation. Is that OK?

I expect you to have a difficulty introducing me to something you think I thought was impossible since you do not seem to know what I think at all. But you are welcome to introduce what you may.

As to what constitutes love. If, as you say, you've read my threads, you'd know what constitutes love to buda. But just so you do not say I never said, please see below.
No difficulty at all grin, because I'm not operating from the plane of just the natural.

A little digression...: What's your name? Buda? Are you a Nigerian? Does the Egyptian god "Atum" have anything to do with the last part of your name? And are you male or female? Thank you.

How could I possibly have "learnt about the existence of God" and then become an atheist?

No, I had no conflict at all, or shall I say, as much conflict as hearing people believe oyinbo rats talk.
I have a mother and father and siblings too, and we all manage to love one another very well thank you. Ma was a nurse too, and pa a lawyer, and both had many opportunities to love the neighbours, which we saw and further learnt from.
I think you need to go and get educated about atheists, and subjectivity, before you throw your subjective opinion about. Here's a post on the art of making up crap in the head.
LOL. You're still yet to answer what you think constitue love. But then I didn't intend to start a Nairaland-style argument with you when I mentioned you at the first time. Not at all. I intend to introduce you to something you never thought was possible.

"Internal conflict? At 7? No you can't possibly understand anything about me, despite it being written on here somewhere, which if you'd read you would not have called it an "internal conflict", since it wasn't "internal" nor a "conflict". I was born an atheist in a society devoid of God and only got to hear of gods at 7 when I moved to a society where gods were.

As for your, "deserve something better", I'm going to have to put that too down to your lack of knowledge about me since you don't exactly know where it is that my tent is pitched.

Do note that I am not "trying to have a taste of "every" religion", and I'm perfectly happy with the one I currently practise, especially since it just happens to be common amongst almost all religions worth considering. Christianity places it so high that it even claims that doing so it pleasing to God.
OK, I now understand you were born an atheist, but I'm very sure you may have still experienced some conflict of choice when you began to learn about the existence of God. Prove me wrong please if I'm grin.

As for the last statement, I'm guessing you'll tell me your religion is love. But my question is "if for the atheist everything is subjective, how do you determine what constitue love or hate without putting God or God's law in the equation?

No, I do not read my Bible because I "consider" myself a "voracious and an inquisitive reader". I first read it aged 9 to get an understanding of what everyone called God, and read it for that same purpose so many years later, for understanding.

I'm religious by virtue of religiously engaging in religious discussions and do not subscribe to any particular religion. But if you insist, it would have to be the religion of 'love your fellow human being'.

Here is me engaging in Islam. If NL had a philosophy section I'd likely be there more.
Hmmmm...I understand where you are coming from even though you may not be aware. I understand the internal conflict that may resulted in your becoming atheist at such an age, and even your trying to have a taste of "every" religion but then unable to really pitch your tent somewhere. Don't you think you deserve something better, once and final?
Christianity EtcRe: I Am Taking Up Religion. by Daviddson(m): 8:32pm On Sep 15, 2019
budaatum:
I note a judgement here, that I have "contrived", and might be "fundamentally wrong", and you say this with very little knowledge of me.
First
I was not born a Christian nor religious, and knew next to nothing about Yahweh until I was 7, and after hearing of God and studying the text myself I became an atheist. But I do not expect you to know any of this since you could not possibly have read all my posts, and you definitely have not engaged with me till now so I would expect you to know absolutely nothing about my relationship with God.
Thankfully, how I worship God or not is according to God and I and not anyone else, and the standard for worship is clearly laid out in the Bible for each and everyone to see. And as you can see in this thread, I am asking God, who alone judges, and not any human being.
Not at all, I'm not being judgemental; I'm speaking on a general basis about how some people could put up a warped, personal idea about God ....

Yes I know very little about you, and that's strictly from what I've read from your threads. Do you read the Bible strictly because you consider yourself a voracious and an inquisitive reader? Can I know what religion you subscribe to, please?

Thought of being a Christian? No, not really. Especially not after considering some of the things that some think qualifies one to be Christian, like believing, for instance, or some thinking their approval is required. I'm pretty happy being human. Least that way I'm subject only to the approval or disapproval of God.

Why would you want (I'm assuming you mean 'accept') me as one?
No; I don't mean thought of being a Christian, but thought in the direction that God didn't create you a Christian.

I'm glad to tell you that you cannot worship God on your own terms; you can't put up an idea of what you think God is, and then decide that is what you want to believe about Him. How would you even know what He approves or disapproves if your contrived idea of God is fundamentally wrong?

You'll have to answer the above question first before I answer your last question.

LOL. That's not true - you don't need any person's approval or disapproval to become a Christian. And BTW if no other person here want you as one, I would. I have tried searching for that thread or post, but I was unable to. Are you saying you've never thought in that direction?
Christianity EtcRe: I Am Taking Up Religion. by Daviddson(m): 12:54pm On Sep 15, 2019

Indeed we can. Start by telling me about the "emptiness and indecision about religion and God" you seem to think I am experiencing.

What thread of mine gave you that impression?
I can't recall the exact thread, but it seems to resonate across all your comments on the Religion section.

Let me ask you a question: Are you a Christian? In fact are you a religious person at all?

I'm good; thanks. So I went through a few of your threads in the Religion section and I picked interest in your love and quest for knowledge and the emptiness and indecision about religion and God you seem to be experiencing. In one of the threads you lamented "why God didn't create [you] as a Christian". Can we talk about it and many more?

Confession

My eyes don't work as well as they used to so I have not been reading the books I said I would read. I'm listening instead with the devices below. The beauty is I get to 'read' each book more than once - four five times to be precise, and wherever I happen to go. Nothing beats a 1am walk listening to the Word of God.
Hi friend, how are you?

It did not play out well.

I remember getting a warning from my Dad one evening. He had returned home early from work, and saw me reading the Bible. He asked to me find something else to read.

He's a mix of old traditional values and Christianity. I don't remember him being much into religion, until the event that led to his trauma.

My mom was always religious, got worse after the whole traumatic experience. I remember her taking us to 'special' pastors, and warning me and my siblings not to tell my Dad..... my late Sister once spilled... Wasn't a peaceful Sunday evening, I can tell you.

Oh, I remember the morning devotions. On the rare occasion Pops attended, he would my mother against speaking in tongues in his house. Lol..the fights those days... Thank God we grow.
LOL. Your dad was certainly a secret cult member.
