There are things that matters and some don't, buy even to some, the don'ts does to them...

amicable09: Sorry, I didn't go through the thread as I don't enjoy these topics on NL cos it generates more quarrel but then, have you seen the Biafran map?
My only concern stems from your comments which I've been following and the shares from you. Somehow you have managed to look for ways to call yourself a non-igbo man as if someone is forcefully trying to make you one. No one of us chose our tribe or country, why then are you acting like you are 'blessed' to be an Urhrobo man? Again you are reading your own meanings into my views.... am not claiming to be non igbo... I AM Non igbo and am not say am blessed to be non igbo... am jyst stating the simple truth cos i sched and currently work in a region where they think there are just 3 ethnic groups in nigeria.... is my affirmation of my ethnic an automatic snub on other ethnic groups? NO! As to the issue of me feeling like some is trying to forcefully make me an igbo man.... again you are misreading my intent... some people are trying to forcefully make me a BIAFRAN... And while i have nothing against the actualization of a peoples desire to be free of a forced marriage... i resent the constant inference that when that biafra comes we will be co opted into it, with or without our consent.... again let me re-iterate... i dont feel like my tribe is better than any other and my comments werent even based on tribal sentiments exept in response to mentions that made bringing ethnicity into the issue unavoidable. |

amicable09: Were you consulted before the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern protectorate took place in 1914? Did Sir Frederick Lugard meet with any of your ancestors to decide Nigeria's marriage? The Berlin Conference, I'm sure had YOU in attendance as they scrambled for Africa and sealed our fate by that singular meeting!?
Daxlasaint, I've been following your comments on this issue as much as I hate to comment publicly on these issues, I plead with you to take things easy especially the way you seem to be hauling harsh words on the Igbos and Biafra as it were.
Thanks. My dear... go back and read my comments again... i have nothing but respect for igbos and their legitimate struggle for independence... what i am in opposition of is the fact that certain biafran agitators want to by the use of sheer force assimilate us the non igbos- non easterners into the proposed biafra.... i have not used any derogatory words to make my view known so it must really be an issue of you assuming my not wanting to be part of biafra means am anti igbo.... this is not and has never been true. Am sorry if i gave you reasons to think otherwise. BTW... asking if we were consulted during the amalagmation is making my exact point for me.... it was wrong then as it would be wrong now to fold non biafrans into biafra without their explicit consent.... |

PhockPhockMan: Are you telling me that Ojukwu excluded the minorities during consultation?
Please educate me. Yes... i call on you to name the ndoni...efik... ikwerre... ijaw leaders of thoughts and trad rulers he consulted before he included them in biafra.... was there a referendum on whether they wished to secede with the igbos? AND in addition the aniomas werent even included in the original biafra until the biafran thrust for lagos which lead to the capture of the midwest for a short period of time... even then the administrator he put incharge still went ahead and declared the midwest as republic of benin... a republic which lasted mere days if not hours... |

ideykwum: Even though I don't agree with this line of reasoning, the Anioma leaders were also included. Please read the accounts of the war. Anioma leaders... very few... were consulted in the creation of biafra.... NOT in the planning of Nzeogwu's coup.... P.s. do you remember where KADUNA Nzeogwu was born and practically lived his whole life? |

Mckennedy: Then why is Nzeogwu coup refers as an Igbo coup? for the same reason i have spent the last ten yrs correcting the Yorubas i have had to sch and work with that i am Urhobo not Igbo.... one of the biggest failings of this nation called nigeria is the lumping up of 'minority' ethic groups with the nearest of the 'big' three to their ancestral lands... |

cheruv: You no get yarns!! If nzeogwu wasn't blinded by stupid patriotism, he'd not have staged the coup of Jan 66. He made the mistake, and we Igbos stood by him kos he's Igbo like us...even his Anioma people weren't spared the carnage as they were slaughtered in their thousands by their Bini and urhobo neighbors. Until Anioma is torn out from Delta state, we East bank Igbos would continue to speak for them. If you feel bad about it,support the creation of Anioma state! First off i support Nzeogwu's coup... for yrs that man was larger than life for me... Secondly... the Asaba mass execution during the war was carried out under col Shuwa... a northerner... read up on your history before you fling accusations around Thirdly... i have always supported the creation of Anioma state and if in the eventuality of the Igbos getting biaf, the Aniomas wish to join them then i dont see that as being an issue to us the Urhobos... all am saying is... DO Not presume to make the decision to split with you on our behalf... it goes against the very tenets of your agitations. |

TheOnlyWiseMan: DR. IFEANYI ARTHUR OKOWA AND HIS DISJOINTED UNDERSTANDING OF THE GEOGRAPHY OF THE NATION OF BIAFRA. On Wednesday, February 3, 2016 during his first interactive session with journalist at the Government House in Asaba in Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa made the following statements; “Delta State has never been, and is not part of the South East. Biafra agitation, we criticize it. Anioma land as it is said, was part of Bendel State; we were part of the Mid-West State, we have not been part of the South East. So obviously, we cannot be said to be part of them (Biafra). We may speak a similar language, but we are not part of the South East. We were part of the Mid-West, now we are Deltans.” Dr. Okowa, who is the current governor of Delta State, was just two days short of his 8th birthday when Yakubu Gowon-led Nigerian Armed Forces invaded Biafraland on July 6, 1967. But considering the fact he attended the famous Edo College in Benin City in the 1970’s, he should have learned a bit about the history of his own people and the Nigerian war of genocide against Biafra. The statements of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa indicate that he is either pretending not to know the history of his people or he is making such statements to please his Northern Nigeria friends and supporters. Is Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa saying that Biafra is all about the South East? If so, is he asserting that Capt. Anuku, Col. Mike Okwechime, Col. Joe Achuzia, Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu, Col. Conrad Nwawo, Col. Ben Nwajei, and other Biafrans from the present-day Delta State were recruited into the Biafran Military as mercenaries? Even the name “Anioma”, does that name sound like Oduduwa, Bini or Arewa to Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa? Furthermore, does the first name of Dr. Okowa which is “Ifeanyi” sound like a Hausa name? Because Yakubu Gowon forced the people of current Delta State into alliance with the Binis and named them Mid-West, does that remove their Biafranness? Perhaps, we would like to remind Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa that in Delta State, there is a community called “Igbo bi na uzo” which is shortened as Igbouzo or anglicized as Ibusa, which is where Prof Pat Utomi comes from. As someone from Owa Kingdom, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa should know that his roots is to ancient Eri Kingdom and genealogically, he is from the Igbo-speaking area of the nation of Biafra. May we ask Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa who was elected the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on November 29, 2008? Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is deepening the identity crisis engendered on the so-called Niger Delta or “South-South” by the British and Northern Nigeria which has culminated in sowing seeds of discord, hatred, and mutual suspicion among fellow Biafrans. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa by his misguided utterances has shown disdain for God’s creation because he is mocking God’s efforts in making people of the same descent to speak the same language. It is laughable that Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is behaving as if he will be the person to determine for all Biafrans, to be or not to be part of their God-given nation of Biafra. We therefore, advise Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to desist from mocking and challenging God and His creation. We are hereby educating Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa that Biafra’s footprints cover the entire South East and all of the so-called South-South with the exception of Edo State but with the inclusion of Igboakiri or Igbanke as is presently called. We further educate Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa that Biafra also includes Idoma land and Igala land. Finally, we advise Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to concentrate on his primary function of lifting up the quality of lives of the Biafran people in the present-day Delta State while we steadily and successfully go through excision of Biafra from the British contraption called Nigeria. The restoration of the Nation of Biafra is unstoppable, unquenchable, irrevocable, irreversible, and a continuum. We are not going to leave any Biafran behind and that includes the entire Delta State. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa should better shape up or ship out!
Signed: Barrister Emma Nmezu & Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka Iroanya Spokespersons for Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) So as an Urhobo man from Delta state you are telling me am gonna have to become a biafran whether i want to or not? Or are you gonna give me immigrant status to stay in my own ancestral land? Is forcing people of other ethnicity into your agitation not the exact same thing you hold as your beef against the british? Well till such a time as when and if ever biafra becomes a reality let me hold my peace but i know if the day ever comes not an inch of non igbo ancestral land will be ceded to biafrans and am very sure this sentiment is not individual to me alone. Favolly: Hi
I love the way you write
I'm following your diary too. You're like a much nicer version of me. Plus it reads like something out of a Francine Rivers novel. Lols
@ your last update..
I saw that you may have misconstrued what i meant when I said being alive is overrated. Maybe, it wasn't about my post but eitherway, I just feel like I should explain what I meant...
I'm glad to be alive and I have serious hopes for a bright future. That's why nothing will ever drive me to take my own life.
However, I came to the conclusion that being alive is overrated because barely 3 months back, I witnessed a loved one battle real hard to stay alive. She had the highest stage of cancer, whatever that means. She was practicaly writhing in pain every minute. Deep in our hearts, we knew the end was near for her but we were still hopeful that some miracle would make her survive it. We would miss her and it would hurt so much if she died. Everyday, I'll get back and peep into her room and see her moaning and groaning. I would watch life seep slowly away from her body. I would watch until I couldn't bear to anymore. She kept crying for mercy and I know God heard her. I can't begin to imagine how unbearable the pain felt but merely looking at her broke my heart everytime.
Then she stopped crying for mercy and started begging God not to take her life. She said she would bear the pain for as long as it lasted but she just didn't want to die. We all joined in praying to God to save her life but she died not long after. Unfortunately?
We were all sad but at the same time, I felt happy for her soul. I knew she was in a better place. I felt consoled that all that pain was finally over. When I saw her body during the funeral, she looked so peaceful and it made me wonder why she would have chosen to continue suffering for a longer time than to just die and rest in God's bosom.
And in that moment, I realized that not every living being is better than the dead. Everyday, we hear things like 'Are you not supposed to be grateful that you're still alive? People are dying everyday. Go to the mortuary and see dead bodies' And the audience may probably be someone that has Ebola or the deadliest disease ever. Personally, I would pray for death if i found myself in such a situation.
A lot of us are just privileged in this life. That's why we can talk about being better than the dead. And yes, a lot of us are better than the dead but look around you. A lot of people are begging on the streets, no arms, no legs, no food, no shelter, no friends, no relatives, nothing. Most of these people die everyday after going hungry for days at a stretch. Do you think the rest of them think that dying and going to heaven is worse than staying alive to see if they'll live through another day?
Yes, I think being alive is overrated and I mean it generically. It has more to do with my personal beliefs and nothing to do with how screwed up my life may be at the moment.
PS; I'm really sorry for derailing this beautiful story Very beautifully expressed... i agree with you bout being alive been mostly overrated but am not gonna write an epistle on it here cos like you i wouldnt want to derail this fab thread 1 Like 1 Share |
