mekaboy: BAD IDEA, SOME SECURITY AGENTS ARE PART OF THE ISLAMIC SECT , SECURITY HAS UNIFORMS, THE MILITANTS HAVE THE SAME UNIFORMS. THEY HAVE GUNS,MILITANTS HAVE SAME GUNS. NOW THEY HAVE BULLET PROOF, IMAGINE ARMED ROBBERS, MILITANTS AND KIDNAPERS USING BULLET PROOF.

WHY NOT SPEND THAT MONEY TO TRAIN A NEW SET OF UNDERCOVER SECURITY AGENTS, WHO WILL BE PLANTED IN EVERY PART OF NIGERIA( SCHOOL, MARKETS, BARS, CLUBS ETC) TO PROVIDE INTEL ON ALL CRIME ACTIVITIES AROUND NIGERIA.

I MEAN IMAGINE SECURITY AGENTS RUNNING A BAR, WHERE ARMED ROBBERS, KIDNAPPERS, AND DRUG DEALERS COME TO MEET AND DISCUSS THEIR OPERATION. WITHOUT KNOW THE WHOLE PLACE IS BUGGED AND THEIR CONVERSATION IS RECORDED? OR SECURITY AGENTS GAINING ADMISSION INTO THE UNIVERSITIES AND JOINING THE CULT, PROVIDING THE NAMES OF ALL BAD GUYS TO THE POLICE?

THESE ARE THE TYPE OF THINGS NIGERIA NEEDS. ASSUMING WE HAD ONE SINGLE SECURITY AGENT WHO SUCCEEDED TO JOIN BOKO HARAM JUST TO GET INTEL, BY NOW WE WOULD HAVE INFO ON THE SOURCE OF THEIR FUNDING AND THE SUPPLIER OF EXPLOSIVES AND WIPE THEM OUT FROM THE ROOT.

ALL WE NEED IS INTELLIGENCE AND NOT BULLET PROOF.

R-L; PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN, PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE, SEN. DAVID MARK, DEPUTY PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE, SEN. IKE EKWEREMADU WHILE BEHIND IS SEN. UDOMA EGBA DURING THE OPENING OF THE SENATE 2012 RETREAT IN UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE. JUNE 25, 2012

… Says Religious Fundamentalism, Not Poverty Responsible For Boko Haram Crisis

UYO, June 25, (THEWILL) - President of the Senate, David Mark on Monday sounded a strong warning to Northern Leaders to check the rising violent activities of the deadly fundamentalists group Boko Haram, saying its activities could lead to the nation’s disintegration.

Mark, who made the remark at the Senate Retreat in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, also declared that the northern leaders’ code of silence on the issue in the face of the Boko Haram’s continuous violence shows that the leaders are as guilty as the perpetrators of the mayhem.

“If the elders in the North cannot speak out and stop this menace let them tell us. Let them come out and say so boldly, because the belief out there is that some elders know about these people and decide to keep quite. If care is not taking, the way things are going, if the Boko Haram menace is not halted, it can lead to break up of Nigeria. Because there is an extent to which the people can take it,” Mark stated.

Mark, who also debunked often-touted insinuations that poverty is the root cause of the crisis said, “It is all about religious fundamentalism and ideology.

“Poverty is not the cause, otherwise if every poor person decides to carry arms then Nigeria will seize to exist. So if people talk about poverty and hunger as the cause of the Boko Haram menace I say no.”

The Senate President further added that bombing of churches almost every Sunday and killing of innocent Christian worshippers has stretched the patience of the people to the limit; such that the leaders are finding it increasingly difficult to persuade their followers not to seek retaliation. “There is limit to human endurance,” he chipped.

Nonetheless, Mark cautioned Christians on the danger of retaliation saying, that doing so means that they (Boko Haram) have succeeded in achieving their target. “Leave vengeance to God”, he appealed.

“I think it is time we educate the suicide bombers in the North that it is a wrong belief that killing innocent people would automatically take you to heaven where they would inherit 17 virgins. Of course it would be an uphill task for one person to handle 17 virgins,” he contended.

He said religious leaders and preachers should desist from indoctrinating their adherents into suicide bombings, adding that government should think seriously on issuing licenses to preachers as a way of checkmating the evil ones among them.

Mark also called on government to seek international collaboration with its neighbours as well as Western countries on ways to tackle and uproot the Boko Haram sect.

While declaring open the retreat the 2011 Senate Retreat taking place at the Ibom Meridien and Golf Resort, the Senate President attributed the emergence and upsurge of terrorist activities in the country to some “disgruntled and over-ambitious politicians.”

Also addressing senators at the retreat tagged “The National Assembly and National Security: Securing the Future for Development”, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan noted with sadness that unguarded remarks and statements by ‘do-or-die’ politicians had led to destruction of several lives and properties in the northern parts of the country.

President Jonathan warned such politicians to stop promoting ethnic and religious politics adding that national security should not be sacrificed on the altar of partisan politics.

He called for joint collaboration between the executive, legislature and judiciary arms of government on the need to review and strengthen existing laws on terrorism to reduce the activities of the Sect.

Meanwhile, host governor, Godswill Akpabio while welcoming the participants described the retreat, as a divinely arranged coming at a time Nigeria is experiencing security challenges.

Akpabio said that a strong union between the executive, legislature and Judiciary was capable of solving the Boko Haram problem.

According to the Governor, “the bombs and the killings would not deter the government of President Goodluck Jonathan from delivering on its mandate of transforming the country.”

Fermosky: Some people think Samaru Campus is ABU Zaria, some don't even think Kongo is part, that guy blabbing, why can't u transfer yourself to kongo and come and stay. Mere kids called 'yaro boys' overran the so called security men during post-election crisis when the school chapel was burnt. So tell me what was burnt in Samaru?, Samaru is only safe because it's the main campus and the senate building is there. Kongo is not safe enough that's the fact.
.No beef fermosky and I quit undastand ur point bt this issue on ground is not post election violence, it 2 different tinz. And u knw an average hausa man in zaria survives only on daily income generated by buisness which we d student are their main means of survival, reason dis urself beside the post election violence wen hav their been violence between the muslims and xtians in zaria even wen kaduna was bloody zaria was calm, my elder sister spent 7 yrs in ABU zaria notin of such and hav spent 4yrs notin of such, all wat we hear is panic and rumours.Kongo campus is partly not safe coz of that bomb blast durin the post election violence bt trust me God is in control, I learnt d Emir of ZauZau(Zaria) has warn all d yaro boys 2 kip off and u knw they respect their Emirs a lot, the tin is jst do ur remaining yrs and graduate, ABU certificate is too influential 2 miss.

tjcrown: why did you refuse or fail to say AMEN to the prayer that YOUR LIFE WILL BE RUN IN A MANNER GOODLUCK IS RUNNING THIS COUNTRY. You are all over the space singing President's praise. Even if you are his relative or you are being the number of response you post per day, you need to be diplomatic with your response. Let me ask you; Do you know the number of people being murdered and maimed on a weekly basis and my president could not curb it? Do you know the number of citizens- graduates wallowing in a abject poverty? Do you that more than 2 trillion naira subsidy fraud is more than Nigeria annual budget and my president is still dining and wining with the suspects ( Anyway, they financed his campaign)? Do you know the cost of travelling for international meeting with more than 100 delegates and the cost to you and i? Nobody is asking for perfection from GEJ but just to solve our basic problems.

Please, MR Melakwu or what, even if you have been paid, have mercy on 150 million nigerians, the youngs and olds. Do you know, I have a friend in Dana Air crash and our president did not sack the aviation minister who failed to monitor airline for safety. This guy had less than a year old kid, what do you think will become this little angel fate, when his dad was killed by ineptitude and corruption of our leaders. You know the crash was avoidable but alas it was not averted. You may ask me if i expect GEJ to stay at the airport and check the aircraft? Obviously NO! Thats why he has a minister responsible for that role and when she failed to perform, she should be sacked with immediate alactrity. But can your president sack her? Of course no. Do you know why? she financed GEJ campaign and she sponsors door to door campaign and thats the reason live of hundreds is sacrificed. God will pay you back in your own coin.
I feel ur pain my Brother....., u hav said it all!

all4naija: With all these hate for GEJ I am beginning to like him(the president). I hope to see the next person coming to that position. I think this man is far better than people think. Just there are too much people against him in taking actions which would compromised the survival of the nation.

Believe it or not, the Northern elites are bent on making sure this administration doesn't succeed in any way in moving the nation forward. Not only that, these are people who really have roots and powers in the politics of Nigeria. The battle this president is fighting at the moment is beyond repair and moving the country forward but stay afloat in this sea of monsters from the North who are hungry for power to squander more of the resources not coming from their region.

I don't even see the Ghanaian professor as intelligent though. Insulting another nation president is tantamount to how much stupid he could be only to be praised by some morons here who are being chased out of Ghana. It baffles me who most silly Nigerians would complain of how they are being treated abroad only at home to allow a stupid prof to pass insult on what is not of his concern. How many Nigeria profs have the right to insult the Ghanaian president. The Ghanaian prof is just a tool in the whole theatrical aggrandizement of his intellect. I think he should go home and have a rethink if he's been used by some group of people to pour insult on the president.

To those supporting this stray-puppet professor from Ghana should better think twice of how much Ghana has contributed to the propagating of passing recriminations on Nigerians. Look very guys, this professor is no way better than our Nigerian president and he can be in that position nor exercise any quality of leadership . I say to hell with him, to hell with the Ghanaian prof!
hmmm.... A confused man! Gej Slave.

We might be suprised he was secluded somewhere behind the rocks in Abuja. Well, more critiques to follow when his own location then is confirmed.

Individually speaking, if I were the governor, I'll evacuate even at rumour-stage before the dawn of crises cos with the present situation of things in the North, its only oneself and whomever or whatever he believes in that could "guarantee" ur safety. Hightime we stopped fooling ourselves.

Food for thought: How many calls were you able to put through to the president during the live media chat yesterday? Nigeria experienced the worst network peculiar to connecting those landlines yesterday. Who dey fool who? "Their smiling and sweet talking cannot fool us no more" (Lucky Dube)

lacasa: Tђat's not right.

Even if the Bayelsa, Jigawa anϑ Rivers state governments felt they had τ̅o evacuate their students from the institution, they should αve first of all contacted the state government of kaduna as it is the governor †ђªt is saddled with the security of all inhabitants within the state. After †ђªt if the governor deems it necessary, the V.C will now be notified anϑ then the evacuation takes place formally.

But, now †ђªt students are whisked away without the knowledge of the governor as chief security officer anϑ the VC of the institution, if something were τ̅o happen in transit or accident for example (God forbid sha) what would be the wisdom behind this move?

Well, thank God the curfew has been relaxed anϑ normalcy is resuming gradually, very soon academic activities will resume.

We keep praying for peace in our land anϑ the exposure anϑ humiliation of those causing all this havoc whoever anϑ wherever they may be. Amen.

Pretence is nw an outdated style... He wnts innocent studnts 2 stay while zarias hrt is pregnant wit evil... Evn d v.c is afraid of wat he dosnt knw.
. Tell me more.... Seems u were involve in d crises abi na newspaper u bn dey follow get info!!
