Thanks for the prompt reply! I recently plan on relocating to Canada although I don't know on which platform to apply, maybe express entry, student visa and all. Left Nigeria some 2 years ago to Belgium for my MSc. Within that period, I've had 2 years US visa which expires May 2019 and visited once, within the last month I got 6 month UK that expires in October and travelled to more than 7 countries in the EU. I will be finishing my MSc here by September and need to have a concrete plan to fall back to. I think Canada is a right one. so based on experience, I hope I can be rightly advised on the best and sane way to eventually get to live in Canada because to be sincere, I have very limited knowledge of Canada immigration issues. Note: financially I can say I have 8,000 euros in savings presently I appreciate your honest suggestions... Thanks! |
I actually had this question in mind too, would be nice if someone with experience could answer... Thanks! ufkenedy: |
fikki1:It should be out again by around October/November |
fikki1:See my boss dey call me boss. No dey whine your boy o. We go celebrate am for Ghent. No dull am. |
oluwamitomisin:The scholarship is VLIR-UOS scholarship. It is provided by the Flemish government and subsidized by the Belgian govt. You can browse more about it and other scholarship opportunities in Belgium. |
oluwamitomisin:To the best of my knowledge, anything legalization and authentication must be done at Abuja. Authentication at both the ministry of education and ministry of foreign affairs and legalization at the embassy. |
oluwamitomisin:Thanks bro! I didnt use that. Mine was a scholarship so I used the scholarship certificate instead. @fikki1 @namedis4 et al can help with that. |
namebdis4:Bedankt |
Goede morgen bosses! Sorry it's been a while I dropped by... This is to thank y'all for your guidance and support. Got my visa last Friday. I can only but count down days to the 'movement'. By God's grace, we'll get more good news on here within the coming weeks. Can't wait to see y'all in Belgium! |
oluwamitomisin:Legalization can only be done at the Belgian embassy. Most people apply for visa through vfs and that's the norm. However, it is possible to request for an appointment through a mail to the embassy in which they will send you a day convenient for them or simply tell you to submit through vfs. |
Vfs is the visa application Centre. They are a 3rd party Centre that represents the embassy. Their website is http://www.vfsglobal.com/Belgium/Nigeria/ you can get more info from there. |

Hello bosses! Sorry it's been a while I came on here... Been very occupied as a result of my trip to Abuja for processing! To narrate my experience; Firstly the whole processing thingy is easy. One will definitely start with academic documents authentication at the ministry of education followed by that of the ministry of foreign affairs. It's something everyone can do by him/herself but if you don't have the time, there are agents that can get the job done in little or no time (could be worth it most times). Good thing is that both ministries are close to each other in the central area. At the ministry of education: Go to the ministry early with your original academic documents and 3 photocopies each and a waec scratch card and a big brown envelope (they can be purchased there too anyway). You will be given a form to fill at a token of around #150. You then proceed to a cyber cafe to generate a remita payment invoice. Take this to any bank n pay. Change the deposit slip and bank print-out to receipt at the revenue office and proceed for the submission of the form. You will be told wen to come for your documents. (same day when I did mine) At the ministry of foreign affairs: This is relatively easier. Generate a remita payment invoice and make payments to any bank (300 multiplied by the number of your documents). Take the bank print-out and deposit slip along with your documents (academic documents must be authenticated first by ministry of education) for submission before 12noon. The documents must be submitted with one photocopy each. (The documents must be submitted in a clear folder else you will have to walk all the way down to get one). You will be told to come back by 2/3pm for collection. Legalization at the Belgium embassy (9, Usuma Street, Maitama) Someone has explained this above. Submitting time is strictly between 9-10am and collection anytime from 3pm. Legalization is #6200 per document. Legalization forms can be printed from the vfs website. Submission at vfs (Lobito Cresent, Wuse 2) Make 2 photocopies each of your legalized documents (front n back cos legalization is done at the back) and 4 coloured photocopies of the data page and used pages of your international passport. White background 45X35 sized passport photograph (pls try n confirm the size). Can't give the details of the fees but I know the handling fee is #9300, sms service is #400 and FedEx courier service (to return your documents) varies depending on the location with #4500 being the highest amount. There was no interview whatsoever at the vfs centre. You should receive a mail the same day notifying you that your application has been sent to the Belgium Embassy. Your questions regarding the above are welcome... Cc them bosses @fikki1 @namebdis @tunde @ccsurplus |

nairacountry:My pleasure sir. I studied Food Sciences and technology. |
Neyoalao:I started by searching for scholarships offered by different countries as well as receiving updates from some scholarship advertising sites. After checking what their requirements were, I tried to get my documents ready. Most scholarships will require the following: *Academic transcript *Proof of English Language Proficiency (if it's an English taught program) I wrote an IELTS test in my case. *International passport (this could be submitted later, depending on the scholarship provider) *Motivation letter/statement of purpose *Reference letters etc I graduated with a first class but I have seen cases where 2-1 students won a similar scholarship. |
sirRiddy:Well, the efforts lie with u. 'Google search' for schools that offer ur preferred course in the particular country of ur choice. Most times, scholarship organizations/schools favour students with high grades and/or students with leadership potentials. Always check eligibility requirements of each scholarship to see if you can apply or not. Best of luck! |
