Education / University Of Ibadan Emerged First In Nigeria, futa Came Second: NUC 2021 Ranking by Deenjaris(m): 12:34pm On Dec 17, 2021
Why UI emerged best university in Nigeria, FUTA came second: NUC Committee
“For this 2021 edition, based on the 12 indicators that we have developed, University of Ibadan is the first followed by the Federal University of Technology Akure.”

Peter Okebukola, former executive secretary of the National University Commission (NUC), said the University of Ibadan was deserving of the best university in 2021 award.

Mr Okebukola, who heads the ranking committee set up by NUC, stated this at a two-day capacity building workshop organised by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund(TETFund) on Monday in Abuja.

The pro-chancellor and governing council chairman of the National Open University (NOUN) was one of the lead presenters at the workshop.

He said UI met the year’s ranking criteria, adding that the ranking was carried out using 12 indicators involving 113 universities across Nigeria.

The Federal University of Technology Akure came second.

Mr Okebukola explained that the institutions were ranked based on full-time students, international students, students and staff ratio, efficiency, Google scholar index, and contribution to the knowledge economy.

Other criteria, according to him, are the percentage of international staff, the percentage of programmes with full-time accreditation, and all citations per capita.

He said the full report on the ranking would be made available to NUC and uploaded on its website.

“For this 2021 edition, based on the 12 indicators that we have developed, University of Ibadan is the first followed by the Federal University of Technology Akure. Next year we will look at the indicators that we used this year and see whether there are things to add or drop,” added Mr Okebukola. “So it is going to be an annual thing. The full report of the ranking which covers the best university in each region of the country with details of every statistics will be released soonest.”

Health / Imo Covid-19 Discharged Patient Opened Up. by Deenjaris(m): 11:52pm On May 18, 2020
One of the three discharged patients In Imo State who has been in isolation centre at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owerri , Mr. Christian Isiuba from Umujiriji, Ehume, Obowo LGA, has opened up on his experience during isolation , alleging that there is no cases of Covid 19 virus in the state.

Narrating his ugly experience Isiuba who was recently declared to be Covid-19 positive after two weeks he returned from Kano State stated that he was wrongfully declared to be Covid-19 positive by the health officials working for the State government.

He pointed out that the whole scenario came to him as a shock having driven from Kano State down to his country home to see his aging father without any symptom or sickness. He said that after two weeks of his stay at home, people started raising false alarm that he recently returned from Kano with his sick mother, a report which he said was false stressing that his mother is healthy over there in Kano State.

Mr. Christian posited that he was first contacted by health officials from Obowo Local government who then alerted the state health officials and on their coming they searched the whole house looking for his mother who people said he came back with but didn’t see her after which they contacted her on telephone and she told them that she is healthy and fine over there in Kano State.

Consequently, his sample was taken to Ebonyi State for testing and was told that his result will be ready within 48 hours and incidentally that lasted for one week before they came back with a false result they never showed to him declaring him Covid-19 positive and following that the state Medical Director who led the team told him that he will be taken to Isolation center in FMC Owerri for proper treatment and management and as law abiding citizen he followed them to the isolation center.

Mr. Christian Isiuba disclosed that he stayed at the isolation center for eight days where he was been given two tablets of Vitamin C morning, afternoon and night as medication for Corona virus treatment but knowing that he has no symptom of Covid-19 refused taking the drugs they gave to him. He reiterated that while in the isolation center the medical personnel came and took another sample of his for testing and up till the time he was released from the Isolation center after eight days, they never showed him his results for the two samples they took for testing.

He further hinted that what is happening at the Imo state isolation center in FMC is like a child’s play where someone who does not have any symptom of Covid-19 will be taken to isolation center for a reason he does not know maintaining that even some other person’s he met at the isolation center were healthy without any symptom of the virus.

He opined that the state government is doing all it could to put its name on list as among the state with Corona virus cases for a reason best known to them.

He therefore used the opportunity to thank his family members, his community and the medical personnel who showed him love and care all through his stay at the isolation center.

Not a whole doctor. It's half doctor. Doctors are professionals just like bankers, engineers, lawyers, e.t.c. The work they do that makes them think they are helping God to maintain the humans the HE created is also being done by secondary school drop outs who are trained by auxiliary nurses in the neighbourhoods.

No wonder, people are dying easily in your family.
