I wonder what responsibility the so-called Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) is saddled with. It is so painful that almost everything you see in the country is substandard. The other day a tyre dealer sales boy opened up and convinced my dad not to buy the tyres they sell in their shops as the tyres are not new and original as claimed even with the production date reading (1116). The boy said there's a way they stamp date on imported expired tyres, that it will be difficult for anyone to detect. You can imagine the number of souls that has been lost to tyre-bust accident on our bad roads. Electronics, consumables, drugs, food and drink items among other imported goods are also not adequately monitored.
An effective Agent of government (like NCC) that is alive to its responsibilities I think would ensure seizure of the perceived substandard products and retraction from the market before imposing fine giving room for upgrading of the products. The primary aim of setting up the regulatory body is not for fund generation but for quality assurance.
