Religion / Re: Questions For Atheists by DeepEyes: 4:27am On Jul 02, 2017

Can we be honest with our selves for just one minute. You honestly think the history of the Jews is made up? Even other decendants of Abraham are still there today and see Ishmael as their father, and they are at constant conflict as fortold in the bible. Places mentioned in the bible are still there today. The dead sea scrolls are there. At a point you have to admit that something is likely mostly true otherwise how r u sure the sun is not revolving around the earth.

I think you missed my point. The history of the Jews, their prophesies, their customs, their deity and their events may be very real. It does not mean their stories are accurate or even real. Was the world actually created in seven days? Even if it was, who was so privileged to be endowed with this IMPOSSIBLE knowledge of the creation process? Holy Spirit? Okay so who did holy Spirit confide in to write it for posterity? Methuselah's cousin, or Noah, or No-Author? See where I'm going with this...at some point u have to admit the fictional elements in there otherwise it becomes ridiculous. Where is the Garden of Eden? In heaven or on Earth? Don't answer, its on Earth. Since there are bouncer angels at the gates of Eden to prevent humans (Genesis 3:24) from sneaking back into the Garden to eat forbidden stuff. Lol. These are obviously old legends passed down from generation to generation, and then finally scripted as fact by one ignorant generation.

The fictional elements in the Bible is what questions it's absolute authenticity. This has been my point since the first post- the Hebrew Bible as a whole is a terrible alibi riddled with contradictions, embellishments, drama and farce. It looks more like propadanda than actual history. Hey let's tell stories of 9/11, but let's say those airplanes were.....Dragons sent by our God to flame down those American infidels who were busy fornicating in the twin towers instead of worshipping almighty God. Did God actually have anything to do with that incident? No! See what I mean? So the 9/11 may be real, but their anecdote is contrived.

However, to digress a bit, I must tell u that there's an inexplicable bliss that comes with knowing God- like a child Who finally knows who his father is. I do not know if this is a subconscious process from the preconceived conviction that one is doing the right thing, which, scientifically speaking, can give u a sense of bliss, but I must admit that this seemingly ignorant bliss feels a lot better than the turmoils of a never-ending quest for knowledge. And I can assure u that more people would believe in God if the Hebrews hadnt so ruined his integrity with their obviously propagandistic literature- Bible/Quoran. Really ruined the idea of God for intellectuals. God always instructed them to do idiotic, thoughtless, inhumane, evil things...just like he instructed them to blow up the twin towers. Do you now see where the problem is?? Maybe stop referencing the Bible and just start talking to the Supreme being from within you. Seriously.

What do you think of Seun's answer above
Oh I think Seun hit the very famous catch-22 of atheist argument when he mentioned the big bang. That's the point where atheists and theists suddenly hold hands, enter the same boat, and sail away into the ignorant bliss of blind belief

Thanks for your very intelligent answer. Except how would you know the nature of the supreme being. He may very well be as presented by religion. Remember "God" as presented by religion came about through direct experience. It was not theoretical or made-up. I mean Moses, Muhammad, Paul had direct experience of the Supreme Being and they tried to convey him and his message as he presented himself to them.
I wouldn't argue that these people didn't have divine encounters, however, where is the EVIDENCE that any of these people ever really EXISTED? The Bible/Quoran came from a group of extremely religious people.....they weren't incapable of intelligent fiction just like any modern group trying to spread propaganda. Mormons, Buddhists, etc. See how moslems go around trying to coerce everyone into their ways? That's how desperate these people were to convince everyone that their deity is the SUPREME deity. So I'm not saying the "God" of the Bible is fake, just that these stories might simply be INTELLIGENT FICTION to support propaganda that he is SUPREME. Herbalist also speak to powerful deities don't they? What if herbalist became obsessed (as the Arabs are) and began crafting sweet fiction to promote their own deity? Lol. Think about this. Places that have been discovered through archeology don't actually confirm the Bible stories. If you wrote fiction right now you could include real places and events to further accentuate the authenticity of ur fiction. This is what I mean by INTELLIGENT FICTION. Show me evidence that these stories are real.

So my submission stands: Maybe the actual SUPREME being has never even revealed it/himself to anyone, and never will.

Atheists in the house, I truly want to know your answers to the following questions:
Without a supreme eternal being how are the following posssible:

1. How did we go from nothing existing to things existing?
2. How did things go from non-living to living?
3. How did things change from animals to man - in other words, how did man come about, being so completely different from other animals.

Oh sorry but I doubt ud get any proper response since atheist, just like theists, hate when their beliefs are questioned beyond their mental capacity. Ironic isn't it? They're guilty of the exact thing they condemn all believers for- blind belief! Lol. They are very logical until they have to get illogical to support their logic. Lemme explain: standard science law of causes and affects is suddenly benched to argue that there was once a "Random" big bang out of "nowhere" that started time, space and evolution. See what I mean? Lol

To answer ur question tho, the subject of God is complexity, as only religion posits any kind of practical explanation. But we know, from history, that religions can't be trusted due to their mostly contrived ideologies. This "made up" nature of religion is what disqualifies it and it's claims, atleast for an intellectual mind. Science on the other hand tries to be as investigative as possible, until they have no more leads and resort to stalemate hypothesis disguised as theories. This is where science fails too. So both the theist and atheist end up in the same boat of knowledgeable ignorance. Wouldn't it suffice to just admit that we don't know, rather than feigning one knowledge or the other?

There's obviously an origin/source/creator but its probably not that "God" depicted by religion as an attention-seeking insecure being.

The gunman who was shooting at Bronx Lebanon Hospital is a Nigerian & he is dead (PHOTO)

A fired doctor of family medicine shot seven people, killing one, before taking his own life at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center Friday afternoon.

The gunman was wielding a rifle and killed a woman, authorities said. Six others were hit, five of them receiving serious wounds, according to authorities.

A witness told CBS2’s Valerie Castro one of the victims was a doctor who had been shot in the hand. Authorities said another victim was hit in the leg.

The gunman was identified as Dr. Henry Bello. He brought a rifle into the hospital underneath a white lab coat.

Bello was fired from the hospital for harassing and employee, sources said. He searched for the employee before opening fire, according to sources.

The gunman opened fire on the 16th and 17th floors at around 2:55 p.m., Police Commissioner James O’Neill said.

The hospital’s fire alarm system went off during the incident after Bello apparently tried to set himself on fire.

Sad that he'll never get to tell his side of the story. I'm never quick to judge situations like this cos can't assume his motives. They say he "harassed" an employee, but we don't Know if said employee has been deliberately Making his life hell, or being super racist that one day the guy couldn't take it anymore and decided to talk back or retaliate somehow, which was then quickly amplified as "harassment" by the bosses who favor their own, and used as grounds for a dismissal, which then tipped the guy over the edge of sanity. My point is, unless one hears both sides, one cannot tell what really culminated into this tragedy. Very sad tho, for the innocent people that got hurt.

I am even surprised I could get this level of positive feedback despite the level of crappiness of those video clips. I never expected this at all honestly. Infact, I had to beg most of those "actors" before hand, and because they were not being paid, the shakara factor came in. I used just one camera for everything, no tripod, no external mic, all shots were handheld. There was no sort of planning or whatsoever, I just came in with my guys after enough begging, point and then record.

For editing, I used corel studio x5. It's a basic video editor in my opinion. I got adobe premier pro cs4 last 3 weeks and it's 50x better than corel video studio. I don't expect anything good from the corel studio, you can't even color grade or place marks on timeline which makes it damn hard for synching video and audio.

The a3000 is dirt cheap with image quality that rivals prosumer level DSRL camera.
I will recommend it for both beginners and enthusiasts. I use the kit lens for now because E - mount lenses are expensive and just scarce. But the kit lens is just WOW in terms of image quality. Maybe I will look for an auto focus adapter which will let me use nikon lenses. I find the EVF and lack of external mic jack annoying nonetheless.

Well, there is this dude who is on my neck for months now. He wants to me to shoot his music video, although I lack pro video light and some other equipment which will really make his job stand out. Dude is so broke, I ain't even expecting a dime, but I really want to do it in order to gather more shooting experience. I plan to shoot it street style, that way, I can maximise my limited resources.

I am in Lagos, send me a PM for my precise location. I don't feel safe here, feds are watching.

It sure does. This particular point and shoot shoots 1080p at 60fps. Can you beat that? You can learn framing, composition, rule of thirds, 180 degree rules and some of these basic vidoegraphy concepts. I use an entry level sony mirrorless model( the Sony A3000 to be precise).

Follow the link on my signature.

Lol. I particularly like that one with the Buhari (sai baba) thing. Nice work, and funny too. Tho your cinematography was painfully basic- not bad- but basic. I understand u were shooting with a very simple camera, yes, but ur videos could still have come out a bit better if u had put in a little extra work in post. Nonetheless, good job. The Sony a3000 isn't bad (do u use kit lens?) so when do u intend putting out some new stuff, and where are u based? If Lagos, what part pls?

PS; try to answer the questions in order; most people skip questions in a bid to provide answers smiley

Hmmmm. You wan kill am? 5D ke. Na to go sell him father house be that o. Other cameras you mentioned fall under the "semi pro" range.

For start oo, he can get the nikon D3100 or D3200 or D3300 oo if only he will up his budget o. All the aforementioned do 1080p plus continuous auto focus while recording.
He can get the canon 1200D(lacks continuous auto focus during recording though) or the eos SL1 aka 100D or 600D.
He can get some products from sony like the Alpha a57, a58, or sony's mirrorless line like the a5000, a5100, nex 7 or 7 n co
Or Panasonic's micro four thirds cameras like the DmC GH1 or GH2.

These are entry level DSRL plus mirrorless cameras he can get below 200k.

Since he is new, he should be more pre-occupied with learning and putting stuffs he lrarnt into practise rather than looking for customers up and down to mess up their videos. Even with a 5D and no experience, he sure gon create a ton of craps!

Still learning sha. Proudly a sony shooter.
cool. Any links to anything you've shot lately.

Get your police clearance certificate from state divisional hq. It is also called the non-criminal record cert. The original comes in a pink paper. Then go to the Embassy Consulate of the country you are trying to an authenticate it.

However, this certificate is only valid for 6 months. After that, you need a new one. Just get one anyways.

Also if you have worked for some reasonable amount of time, get your "Proof of Employment" letter from your company. Company letter head, your profile, your position, your roles etc all written, stamped and signed with contactable telephone number.

That's all I can add. Goodluck!
Thanks, Flyca. Question: under what circumstances might one actually Need the Police Clearance document?

You are welcome! No one has asked for my birth certificate outside Nigeria. When I was in the UK, I was told employers have no right to request the date of birth of a job applicant/employee to avoid discrimination based on age. I understand the best an employer can do is to infer the age from the date on the educational program. I reckon it is same here in Canada. There is no harm in carrying it if you have it, afterall you will have other original documents like you WAEC certificate. If you don't have a birth certificate, then carry your declaration of age.

NB: The documents you will carry depends on your purpose for travelling. If I am travelling for a visit, I will only go with my passport and travel documents. If I will be traveling to study or look for a job, I go "armed" with my folder.
Okay. Thanks for the clarification.

Please it's very wrong travelling with all these documents, Infact any document at all.

first of all, you should ask yourself a question ; why am I visiting US?
if you're visiting US for a change of location, then don't try it at all except you want to buy gala and coke when you land at any Nigeria International airport. You know what I mean.

What if at the Point of entry, the immigration official searches you and discovers any of these documents, what would be your fate and when you're asked to return back to Nigeria, you go begin call village people whereas na you do yourself.

Most importantly, your entry into the US is of paramount necessity so don't joke with it. They're other better ways of possessing your documents.

Hello Chascop, you make a good point. However, you do know that theres a big difference between trying to "retrieve" ur documents and trying to "process" a document from abroad, right? So in order to avoid the hassle of trying to PROCESS a document from abroad, one cud make a check list of everything one Might Need, then obtain them from the relevant authorities BEFORE leaving - not necessarily taking them along. Hope that clarifies the subject. Thanks for that advice though.
