Beaf, i exoect intellects to discuss issues with facts, only fools resort to throwing insults at civil people when it is not warranted. I have a right to my views and so do u but u calling people names is unacceptable. I will not descend to ur level by insulting u, rather i will ignore u and direct my assertions to reasonable people like naijaking1 who has intelligently raised valid point. But I will however like to ask naijaking if he has any facts about Buhari oiling his pockets. PTF did a lot in this country and i have a write up(fact) that i can show. Do u have anything to prove the misappropriation allegation? even some quotation from el-rufais book will do (by the way, el rufai is not an authority when financial indisciplined is being discussed, efcc is still on his case)

naijaking1:
For the bold part; "Says who" huh huh huh
It's easy for anybody to come to the national scene and chant honesty, intergrity, and honor, but we should never forget Buhari's past.
Are you too young to remember any of the crimes Buhari committed in this country in the name of "War against Indisciple" Even if you don't know anybody murdered or wrongfully jailed by Buhari, you should look at it from a human family point of view, it could be you or me tomorrow.

Where is honesty and intergrity when you depose a popularly elected government, jail the vice president in maximium prison, commit many non-Hausa governors to prison, and keep the Hausa/Fulani president under a comfortable and respectful house arrest?
Don't get me started about Buhari's criminal partiality and bias against people of different ethnic and religious background.

Buhari should be in jail, not runinng for president again.
Am sure u an also argue that Rawlings should be jailed. At that time, he did wat was best as the shagari bovernment was in chaos and was serving itself and not the people.

Has Buhari ever been accused of funds mismanagement? A lot of the allegaions levelled against him like theh ones above are unfounded and are mere hear-says,

I will rather have him than have a stooge who honored a thief with two national awards

In 2011, GMB is not alone. He's supported by a team of volunteers online and offline like me, who never voted for him before. We didn't vote for him, because we didn't know.

We didn't know that he supervised and birthed our only existing refineries.

We didn't know that what he did in road construction while in the PTF hasn't been matched by 12yrs of the PDP, even though we claimed they were lopsided.

We didn't know that in his time as head of state he reduced inflation from 23% to 4%, by fiscal discipline and a homegrown economic team (not achieved under any other era, even military).

We didn't know that there was no religious crisis while he led.

We didn't know that JJ Rawlings of Ghana took over 2yrs before him, and killed all the corrupt leaders, while GMB merely gave his own, long-term jail sentences.

We didn't know that the hospitals and universities around the country never witnessed as much benefits they got from the PTF from any government after or before his time.

We did not know, that this man haven been in all the oil sectors in Nigeria, has no petrol station, much less a refinery or an oil rig like so many of our leaders. We never voted him, because we did not know

Well, that shouldnt be the approach to the matter.

I woulda expected something like:

I chose GEJ because,

I chose Buhari because of what he stands for, Honesty, discipline and Integrity
Because of what he has achieved in this country and for this country
Because of his leadership ability which is resounding in his ability to put together an incredible economic team
I believe that if Buhari becomes president, there will be hope for u and I as the institution of godfatherism would have been weakened

Buhari's regime then was military and thank God for him, we would have degenerated into animals. He started with ensuring people queued and there wa order. All that is gone now in most cases. Am sure if any of u stay and drive in Lagos, u woulda wished under ur breath that some military guy whip bus drivers into shape. He was accused of executing drug dealers, I dont see anything wrong with that in a military govt. Some asian countries still practise that and it served as a strong deterrent to prospective traffickers.

That is just a few

the problem with PAN has been lingering for years, pushing them to the verge of collapsing. How come it is getting attention just before elctions,  wonder. Was the President unaware of a company called PAN?

For me, he is always putting the cart before the horse. Another classic example is him saying he will sort out accomodation issues first in the universities? Is there nothing like prioritization in his dictionary?

PAN bemoans FG’s failure to patronise made-in-Nigeria cars

Tuesday, 19 Jan 2010

Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited on Monday lamented the Federal Government’s failure to patronise its products as agreed with the core investors during the privatisation of the company.

The Kaduna-based company was in February 2007 handed over by the Bureau of Public Enterprises to its core investors with an understanding that as a company entirely owned by Nigerians, its products would receive huge patronage from the Federal Government.

The company also said that despite the low patronage by the government, over N5bn had been invested by its core investors to boost local production of Peugeot vehicles in Nigeria since 2007.

The Managing Director of the company, Dr. Haroun Aliyu, who disclosed these during an interview shortly after the official inauguration of its office complex in Abuja, also said that the management of the company had decided to diversify its operations into other areas that would enable it maximise value for the shareholders.

He said that despite the fact that PAN had all the products that were supposed to be used by government officials in Nigeria, the level of patronage by the Federal Government had not been encouraging,

According to him, “We have all the certification that makes our products a standard one comparable to others all over the world. We also have facilities, we are recruiting and training Nigerians for over 37 years; these are pointers to the fact that we have all that it takes. So, the next thing is for government to take its own responsibilities.

“We have a legislation that made it a criminal offence for government agencies to buy vehicles that are not assembled in Nigeria. Today, we are the only company that is assembling sedans in Nigeria, but we are not being patronised.

“That decree is there, we have met with the National Assembly Committee on Privatisation, we have met with the Committee on Industry, we also had a stakeholders’ meeting,

“Interestingly, before the takeover of this company by the core investors, the Bureau for Public Enterprise clearly showed that document as a basis for investors to buy into this company. We have kept our side but government has not kept its side of the agreement. We have spoken to them.

“Today, the minister is talking about support; but we know that the issue is beyond support. Let them come up with policies in writing, so it is our collective responsibilities to make it known that this things are not being respected in Nigeria and it has to be respected for the benefit of all.”

He, however, said that the new complex in Abuja was a fulfilment of the promise of the management of the company to erect structures that would facilitate effective operations in key market areas across Nigeria.

bamosagie:
This GEJ will not cease to surprise me. What is the difference between import and assembles in Nigeria.
Did this man goes to school at all. I dont think so.
May be we should vet his certificates.

The difference is clear, Nigerians work and earn a living in assembly plants of cars assemble in Nigeria, as for those Imported the workers are based and probably from the country where it was imported.
Apart from financial gain, imagine the expertise acquired, and the spiral effect on the economy of the location of the plant.
and the list continue,
So because GEJ has said it, these companies will just appear tomorrow and start assembling cars? there are policy issues, infrastructure issues and other issues to tackle before this comes into fruition.

It sounded like an idea someone just asked him to chip in so gullible nigerians will laud it and they are doing so. how predictable

Patience Jonathan: Nigeria’s Most Powerful Woman
Posted on October 28, 2007 by Adeola Aderounmu

By Sonala Olumhense.

ON September 11, 2006, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seized $13.5 million dollars (US) from Mrs. Patience Jonathan, the wife of then Governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Goodluck Jonathan.

The International Herald Tribune quoted the EFCC spokesman, Mr. Osita Nwajah, as saying that the seizure was made after Mrs. Jonathan had allegedly laundered the money through an associate.

It was the second time in one month Mrs. Jonathan was hitting the scandal headlines. In August, the EFCC had obtained a court order to temporarily freeze N104 million she had allegedly tried to launder through one Mrs. Nancy Ebere Nwosu. The EFCC said it had reason to believe the seized funds belonged to the public. In a sworn statement, Mrs. Nwosu implicated Patience Jonathan, the EFCC said.

But remember, her husband was the Bayelsa State Governor at the time. And Mr. Jonathan’s government dashed to the defence of the First Lady of Bayelsa, alleging that the reports were part of a “plot to destabilize” the state. Government spokesmen were falling over each other to speak for Mrs. Jonathan. The Governor’s spokesman, Dennis Sami, described the allegations as a “charade,” the target of which was the Governor.

“We are aware that the said Nancy Ebere Nwosu is a very remote relation of Her Excellency who has lived abroad for several years,” Mr. Sami said. “She is a successful businesswoman of no little means whose business concerns do not involve Mrs. Jonathan.”

Mrs. Jonathan’s spokesman, Kenneth Ekpelu, fired an e-mail to Vanguard newspaper in which she spoke of “her husband’s opponents who strangely perceive her as the soft spot in his political armour and won’t stop hammering away at her until their decisions to oust him from office are met.”

It is funny how these canned money-laundering defenses sound alike. Didn’t former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s United States lawyer, Mr. Kunle Fagbenle, say last November that Andy Uba – who used part of some funds laundered by means of the executive jet (allegedly without Obasanjo’s permission) to shop for Obasanjo’s farms – could not be accused of money-laundering because Mr. Uba was “already a rich man”? And did not Obasanjo say the Uba scandal was only a “calculated attempt” to ruin his name?

Anyhow, despite the massive protestations of Governor Jonathan, the EFCC pressed ahead. On August 22, 2006, Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court, Abuja authorized the freezing of the N104 million “pending the conclusion of the investigation of the activities of the said persons in connection with their involvement in the acts of money laundering and other economic and financial crimes related offences.”

And then, barely three weeks later, Mrs. Jonathan was in the news again, reportedly being separated from an astounding $13.5 million in US dollars. She must have been one angry woman. But all that was one year ago.

Since then, the Jonathans have moved up in the world. They have left the relative squalor and poverty of a mere state governorship for the Vice-President’s estate. They have left the petty limitations of Bayelsa for the limitless expanse of Abuja. Only one man now speaks before Mr. Jonathan does.

Yes, Mr. Jonathan is the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the second most powerful man in the country. He is also the man President Yar’Adua is trusting with the challenge of the Niger Delta, where billions of dollars are expected to be spent over the next few years.

He has also been talking about democracy, corruption, the rule of law, and development. Just over a week ago, at the All-Delta Peoples Conference in the United States, Mr. Jonathan disclosed that President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua had authorised the release of all funds due the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). In addition, “Special funds will be provided for special projects in line with the master plan,” he said.

And Mrs. Jonathan has been speaking, too, telling Nigerian women how they can become more fulfilled citizens. Up in the rarefied air of federal authority, you can preach any sermon, even while you have around your neck diamonds and jewels of $13.5 million, and gold bracelets of N104 million.

This is all quite ironic. The Jonathans are living in a dream state. They moved into the governorship in Bayelsa when Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was consumed in a corruption blaze, and into the vice-presidency when the PDP sought someone to balance Umaru Yar’Adua on the PDP presidential ticket.

But they take quite a few scandals with them. Mr. Jonathan left Bayelsa State in a thick cloud of suspicion. Many Bayelsans believed his government had fleeced the treasury. While Mr. Jonathan said upon assumption of office he had inherited a state treasury N25 billion thick, he refused to say what was left there as he vacated office. Bayelsans alleged he had swept the commonwealth clean, and that most public projects were left uncompleted.

Two months after he assumed the vice-presidency, Mr. Jonathan came under severe national pressure to follow the lead of his boss and make his assets declaration public. It took several nerve-wracking weeks of trying to dodge the responsibility, but he finally released the document, which showed the former university lecturer was worth an absolutely unbelievable N295 million. He had only been the Governor for 17 months, and this means he had been growing richer at the rate of close to N17 million per month. Naturally, wink-wink, he did not include his wife in his declaration.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Jonathan…

In its report of last April’s election, the New York based Council on Foreign Relations observed that Patience Jonathan was generally regarded as the “greediest person in Bayelsa State” and a woman of great cruelty. Last June, the Niger Development Monitoring and Corporate Watch (NIDDEMCOW), a local non-governmental organization, asked the EFCC to publish its report on Mrs. Jonathan.

The EFCC has not. This is not particularly strange; the Commission is not in the habit of issuing such reports. But nothing has been heard from the Commission since the flurry of activities of August and September last year. That coincides with the period before Mr. Jonathan emerged Yar’Adua’s running mate.

Apparently, even scandals of that magnitude are no obstacle in Nigeria. Mr. Jonathan got the vice-presidency, and the only man he is answerable to is about to put into his hands, theoretically for the Niger Delta, all the diamonds and gold a man could want.

And his wife? Patience Jonathan apparently hates that kind of snail-pace to fortune. Indicted by the EFCC in only eight months as First Lady on a charge of laundering a few Naira bills, she moved to dollar bills in the millions the following month. That same month, the EFCC report to the Senate called her by name.

Again, this does not seem to matter in Nigeria: weeks later, in October, the Owu Kingdom, President Obasanjo’s people, honoured the Jonathans with chieftaincy titles. In that culture, Obasanjo is the Balogun of Owu; Mr. Jonathan became the Obateru.

If Mrs. Jonathan was thrilled on that day, she must be over the moon today. An EFCC indictment, and yet she can get on any of our presidential jets at any time and drink champagne at State functions.

And how much taller she must be, these days as she stands on the authority of the vice-presidency! From such heights, not only do you dwarf an EFCC, but you also are invincible. What a country!

What I really fail to understand is: If Mrs. Jonathan can so effectively laugh at the so-called war on corruption, does that not make her the First Lady? On what basis does she perform her functions – the recommendations of the EFCC? Why has Mrs. Jonathan assumed the status of untouchable, or is she truly the nation’s most powerful woman?

We have a lot in Common.

If the only reason i will be voting for Buhari is because of his will to perform, if the only reason i will be voting for bakare is because of his passion for nigeria, then so be it. i think you need to take time to read their manifesto and read thru buhari's achievement while in office. he was there for barely a year and he did a lot for this country. the promises pdp are making now are a remix of what they started promising 12yrs ago.

A major move which the BB ticket promises is not just the outright removal of corruption from pur system but also an end to the cycle of corrupt politicians instating their proteges so as to be protected. if that is done, u will be surprised at how quickly things will move.

Jonathan is responsible for watever corrupt acts commited by people around him since he was the one who appointed them. so the story that he is not corrupt personally doesnt cut it
