Ojuntana: There's nothing to think deeply about nor any ties to establish Yes most pubic primary and secondary schools are free but what's their quality like? Are they free just for the sake of being free or to ensure no one is denied quality basic education And yes. There are free tertiary institutions in those countries for their citizens. Those not free are highly subsidised. Most of you think they charge the same fees for citizens and non-citizens like you Man, you will understand later. Have a nice life. |
Education › Re: I Can Call Myself A Graduate Today Because Of NELFUND - Graduate by deji17: 1:23am On Jan 21 |
Ojuntana: Well, that's your own perspective. Education in those countries you listed is a social system which is why their schools are tuition free from nursery to secondary. Nigeria does not even have a serious social welfare system. UK spends 8% of its budget on social welfare while Nigeria has less than 1% Your claim about health, security and roads tied to education is totally false If you think about it very deeply, you will understand how they are tied. Again, most public primary and secondary schools are free and they are mostly under state and Local Governments. NELFUND is for tertiary institution, so I don't know why you are equating that with Primary schools? Is tertiary institutions free in the listed countries? |

Education › Re: I Can Call Myself A Graduate Today Because Of NELFUND - Graduate by deji17: 12:22am On Jan 21 |
Ojuntana: There's no national development that should supersede education. UNESCO standards demand that 26% of your budget be dedicated to education. That's why you see so many tuition free schools in the developed world. Roads will be built by civil engineers that come from schools so the quality of the roads will be impacted by the accessibility and affordability of good education. That said, nelfund is being funded from a recurring tax so I see no need why it would be a loan to children of tax payers Outside theory.. Is US, UK, Canada, Australia etc that Nigerians run to considered developed by your definition? You have to chose one. Either socialism or capitalism. Do you want to live in a Nanny state? You have to pay something, to get something. If you think about it, roads, healthcare, security etc are all tied to Education budget. Without security , can you have education? Education is just not limited to classroom. This is why many gets it wrong. We need to update our OS to align with modern times. |
Education › Re: I Can Call Myself A Graduate Today Because Of NELFUND - Graduate by deji17: 10:53pm On Jan 20 |
Ojuntana: Maybe the govt should subsidise the tertiary fees instead of increasing fees by 100% and then dumping them on hapless students as loans. If the govt forgive the loan, it will be a failure then cause that's not the intention behind the loan. Students shouldn't be overburdened by fees in tertiary education. Go and check most of those dancing now in the misguided belief that they are getting free money in 5 years time. Imagine having to pay for your kids' school fees while paying for yours which you did before you even had kids. What about going for further degrees it research while still paying loans incurred from undergrad? Fuel subsidy has been removed and naira devalued by over 300% with wage increase of only 100%. There should be enough money to fund education and make things easier for the masses instead of hanging debts on their backs from young age What we had in the past is the govt subsidizing the cost. Just like fuel, forex, electricity etc, Is it sustainable? Is the subsidy not rubbing us if other National development like road, improved infrastructure etc? |

Kwankwaso stand to gain so much from this. If the APC primaries is thrown open in 2030, he is most likely to clinch it. A politician needs to be strategic and bid his / her time, then go all out when the time is ripe. This is what Tinubu has, but is lacking in many of our politicians |
