Crocodile kills pastor conducting baptism

Eshete was conducting the ceremony for about 80 people on Sunday morning at Lake Abaya in Arba Minch town’s Merkeb Tabya district.

Residents and police told BBC Amharic a crocodile leapt from the water during the baptism and attacked him.

Pastor Docho died after being bitten on his legs, back and hands.

“He baptised the first person and he passed on to another one. All of a sudden, a crocodile jumped out of the lake and grabbed the pastor,” local resident Ketema Kairo told the BBC.

Despite huge efforts, fishermen and residents could not save pastor Docho, policeman Eiwnetu Kanko said.

They used fishing nets to prevent the crocodile from taking the pastor’s body into the lake

The crocodile escaped.

Boko Haram Kills 9 In Niger

Diffa City, south east Niger suffered several attacks believed to be carried out by Boko Haram Terrorists on Monday night, leaving 9 people dead.

According to local officials on the spot, the tragedy was perpetrated by at least three suicide bombers who blew themselves up late at night in three different locations in downtown Diffa.

The attacks came after a relative lull in the region, thanks in particular to the large-scale operations undertaken for over a year by a mixed multinational force composed of the armies of Chad, Niger, Cameroon and Nigeria, against the terrorist group Boko Haram.

The localities of the Diffa region, especially those bordering Nigeria, have been suffering repeated attacks by the Nigeria-based terrorist group.

The areas where the explosion occurred are cordoned off by security forces and the region has been under a state of emergency since February 2015 . photos https://globalsentinelng.com/2018/06/05/boko-haram-kills-9-in-niger/

Politics / APC, PDP In Verbal War Over Not-too-young-to- Run Law by deluxegift(f): 12:29am On Jun 03, 2018
The Not-too-young-to-run bill that has just been signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari has sparked a fresh row between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The opposition party yesterday faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s joke that youths should not contest next year’s presidential election with him, but wait till 2023.

Its National Publicity Secretary, Mr.Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement in Abuja accused Buhari and the APC of frustrating the active participation of youths and women in active politics and governance.

He said the President’s statement underscored APC’s policy of not allowing young people aspire to top positions in the country.

But the APC, in a swift reaction by its chief spokesman, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the PDP should stop playing divisive politics over the sponsorship of the bill.

PDP’s statement had said: “It is unimaginable that a President can sign a law and immediately seek to suspend it.
“President Buhari’s attempt to talk down on and intimidate the youths from contesting against him in 2019 shows that he is not in support of the Not Too Young To Run law and only assented to it because he had no other option under the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

“We therefore urge Nigerians to be alert and wary of booby traps as well as land mines that the APC and the Presidency will set on the way to scuttle the quest for our youths to fully participate and aspire in our democratic process.”

Also reacting to the President’s message, the National Youth Leader of the PDP, Mr. Sunday Ude-Okoye, said the party would continue to champion the cause of young persons in the country.

Ude-Okoye told reporters in Abuja that the party appointed many young persons into sensitive positions during its 16-year reign.

Stop playing divisive politics, APC warns PDP
APC’s spokesman Abdullahi, however, said the signing of the bill into law is “indeed another promise kept by the President during his 2018 Democracy Day address and in our 2015 APC election manifesto in which we promised to provide the opportunities for youths to realise, harness, and develop their full potential and to facilitate the emergence of a new generation of citizens committed to the sustenance of good governance and service to the people and the country.”

He hailed Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara under whose leadership the Bill was passed in the National Assembly .

He said the massive support the Bill received, particularly from APC members in the National Assembly, “speaks volume of the progressive ideals the party continues to identify with and champion, irrespective of partisan considerations and interests.

“This is indeed a major milestone in advocacy efforts to ensure increased participation and inclusion of marginalised groups, in this case the youth in Nigerian politics.

“The youth comprise roughly half of the Nigerian population. It is only right that they take their rightful place within party leadership structures and elective positions at all levels.

“We are confident that the new law will inspire a new thinking among many Nigerian youths pertaining to their roles in elections and politics.

“Youths should not be used as disruptive elements, thugs and social media mobs. It is possible for young people to lead politically and occupy elective positions.”

7 Costly Mistakes On CV That Leave Graduates Unemployed
naijaadvance.com.ng May 16, 2018 6:28 AM
As an HR person, I see over 100 to 200 CVs per day in my job. In most cases during recruitment, I receive over 2000 CVs for a specific job role. You can then calculate the figures when we have multiple job roles. I have decided to offer some advice to job seekers out there who are having lots of difficulties getting job interviews – even for jobs they are well qualified for.

As fresh HR personnel, I was flabbergasted by the silly mistakes made by job seekers, but along the line, I became used to seeing it. Your resume is your representative on paper. So if there is something that needs to be well-presented aside you physically, your CV should be that thing.

Below are the top 7 mistakes or areas where people let themselves down while searching for a job

Spelling, Typos, and Grammar

It is no longer news that the average Nigerian student possesses bad spelling habit. There are no excuses; you have to double check your spelling, grammar, in the most efficient way as possible. You can employ the use of spelling checkers; ask friends or family members to help.

I might make a mistake in this article, but it won’t affect anything in my career. But making a mistake on your resume is not an option at all. You would never have the chance to defend yourself.

Even if you aren’t proficient with English, you can employ the services of someone who can help you get the job done.

Cover Letter

Let’s not beat it; the basic aim of your resume is to know if you’ve got the required experience. The cover letter is what shows your motivation, and attention to details about the job requirements. Sending your resume without your cover letter (unless when there’s no room to send it) is like gifting someone a machine without the manual.

Cover letters are important for 3 reasons

ü To see if you have the ability to put together a business letter.

ü To see if you’ve analyzed the job role, company, and put some time into customizing a letter that accompanies your resume. Most times I get a letter that references other companies from job seekers – which is very bad.

ü To learn why you are applying for this present role.

Using Drab Career Objectives

Since the idea of inserting career objectives at the top of a resume came into the scene, we have seen it bastardized. Several times I come around people who copy and paste career objectives from job sites.

If you really feel cool about inserting a career objective at the top of your resume, then you should customize it for the job role you seek for.

Your Resume looks like a job description

Avoid statements like “Responsible for” or “Duties included”, these phrases belongs to job descriptions and not your resume. You need to focus on your achievements and accomplishments in your previous job roles. How will the present employer benefit from you?

Show them facts and figures of things you’ve achieved, not the job you carried out.

Contact Information

If you have your address in Kwara state on your CV, then you apply for a job whose location is in Lagos, how do you intend to explain that?

The first place I look at on any CV that comes into my desk is the candidate’s location. If it is within proximity, I can then proceed to check up on other details (If we aren’t having a large pool of resumes).

Avoiding the use of keywords

If your CV can’t pass the ATS test, then I advise you keep praying and fasting. If you have the right connections, then no need of passing your CV through software. But if you don’t, then you should know about the ATS software.

It screens out CVs from a pool where candidates have uploaded their resumes. It functions with the help of specific keywords keyed into the system by the hiring manager.

So if you have been sending out your CVs without callbacks, then this might be one mistake you are making.

What do you do?

If I look at your CV for 7 seconds and can’t figure out your areas of expertise, then I dump it and move onto the next. Nobody has all the time in the world to analyze a single CV unless an order has been given from above – it happens.

Your CV must be concise and professionally written to attract maximum attention – even if you are a fresher. You need to explain to me who you are via your CV like a 4-year old.

If most HR persons like me can’t get these details, we won’t be convinced about adding you up to our interview list.

Strange things modern day pastors do

The Bible tells us a story of how Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem while riding on a donkey. At a time when there were chariots and horses, Jesus chose a donkey, the humblest of all domestic animals. In all the Biblical stories about Jesus, he was portrayed as a humble person whose only mission on earth was to deliver people from evil. But modern-day “pastors” are taking this whole gospel to a new level. They seem to have veered off the path of Christ-like living. We have heard stories of modern day African pastors doing strange things in the name of saving sinners.

Being carried by members of the congregation

While Jesus chose a donkey to carry him, some modern day “pastors” prefer the members of the congregation to carry them shoulder high. Some sit on the members of the congregation while some even walk-on members of the church. They portray themselves as if they are so holy that they cannot walk on bare ground/floor. The pulpit of their churches is covered with expensive woolen carpets.

“Holy Water”

We have heard news of some African “pastors” sleeping with women who have come to them for prayers concerning getting pregnant. That their “semen” is like holy water which will break the chain of childlessness and unblock the fallopian tubes. Childless women coming to consult them are advised not to wear pants if indeed they want a child planted in their wombs.

Anointing Oils

Some modern-day “pastors” have taken the gospel of anointing oil to a new level of interpretation. Their anointing oils come in different forms. It can be a chilled water sprayed on the eyes of members of congregation or insecticide sprayed on the members of the congregation (as it happened in South Africa). Most of these “anointing oils” do not come for free. They are paid for handsomely.

“Beer festival”

There is a “pastor” in South Africa who presides over a ‘church service” for sinners (read drunkards) in a bar. According to the news, which was circulated on social media and other leading media stations, the service cannot be conducted without alcohol. As the “pastor” delivers the sermon, alcohol is distributed to all members and they drink as the sermon continues. From afar, it may look like a beer festival. The “pastor” might have taken the gospel of turning water into wine to a whole new level.
