According to an inquest, Jordan Easton was in the kitchen at one of his friend’s parents on August 23 last year – just five days after his 22nd birthday – when he turned a knife on himself to demonstrate the “stab-proof” nature of his vest. He suffered a chest stab wound, and died at the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton. Mr Easton was rushed to hospital, said Teesside assistant coroner, Karin Welsh, but “despite the best efforts of the medical professionals, they were unable to save him.” Although his injuries were “self-inflicted,” there was no evidence Mr Easton intended to harm himself. |

Why We Burnt Israel, America’s Flag-Shi’ites The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, Sunday said it set the flags of Israel and the United States of America ablaze to communicate to the two nations that, as a sect, it condemns their continued oppression of the Palestinians. Speaking on the motives behind the burning of the flags, the representation and symbols of Israel and America; the Secretary, Academic Forum of IMN, Abdullahi Musa, explained that the repressive actions of the two nations toward Palestine over the years, and more recently, during the relocation of America’s Embassy in Israel from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem which resulted in no fewer than 90 deaths of unarmed civilians, leave sour taste in the mouth. He said. “America is the first country to move its capital from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem in order to provide support to Israel in its plot to take over and occupy Jerusalem which is the ancestral homeland of the Palestinians. “But unarmed Palestinians protested the take over of their land by the Jews, leading to the death of about 90 people, and over 200 others injure by gun bullets. “We see such oppressions as tyranny by Israel with the support of America.” He added that the solidarity protest for Palestine, which held every last Friday in the Islamic month of Ramadan, was a regular ceremony for the sect. “The last Friday in the month of Ramadan was declared as a day of solidarity for Palestine by the late Ayatollah Abdullahi Khomeini; calling on all sympathizers to show support for the oppressed Palestinians. “Because the call was against tyranny and oppression which are human tendencies the IMN is also against, we decided to heed the call. The protest held in over 24 cities in Nigeria and across the globe including Israel and America. “We burnt the national flag of Israel to show the Jews that we are totally against what they are doing to the Palestinians. “Americans are complicit in the killings in Jerusalem and the demolition of properties owned by Palestinians in order to pave way for Jewish occupation.” In his contribution, Sheikh Abdulhamid Zaria said: “For the Zionists, Palestinian lives have no value. They are able to get away, literally with murder because western regimes, especially the US, support them. “Zionist Israel is an illegitimate entity; it has stolen the land of the Palestinians for settlement by illegal squatters from Europe, Russia and North America.” Source/NAN |
June 12: Buhari give us free and fair elections, group demands Replace INEC chairman Admits euphoria generated with the recognition of June 12 as Democracy day, the Pan Niger Delta Forum. Made up of southern and middle belt leaders ( PANDEF) has charged president Buhari to re enact the true spirit of June 12 by holding free fair and peaceful elections as 2019 elections draw near. The chairman, PANDEF, Nkanga Indogesit made this call while addressing news men on Sunday in Abuja. The chairman in his speech observed that there are efforts to manipulate the result of the forth coming elections, called for the replacement of INEC chairman " The choice if the chairman is very suspicious and in tandem with the narrative that they are poised to play partisan roles in favour of the incumbent. The chairman noted that the relationship between the current chairman who is from the North East with the acting chairman when he became president, Anima Zakari, from North West is so strong and has the tendency to influence outcome of election. "Our fear that the current INEC chairman may not be able to discharge his functions impartially because of hailing from the same region as the president is not unfounded. "Only recently we saw the scandal if underage voters during the Local Government elections held in the North West state of Kano. Responding to the public outcry if the saga, the INEC chairman set up a committee to look into the violation if our law which stipulates that only 18 years can be registered to vote, the chairman has refused to release the report of the committee . "We strongly demand the replacement of the INEC chairman with a man or woman of integrity from another Zone in order to restore public confidence in the electoral body as it prepared for 2019 elections".he stated. The group explained it's only President Buhari that has been audacious to pick only people who are either his relationship or of the same ethnic stock with him to lead the electoral body. From 1960 till president Goodluck, a southerner who appointed Prof Attahiru Jega from the North West. In the same vein, the chairman, PANDEF said the continous retaining of the service chiefs who ought to have retired of which majority are from a session is suspicious, as they are poised to play partisan role to the favour if the incumbent. Worried that the country is plunging into a complete state of anarchy, with continous lawlessness, unprofessionalism on the part of the police and increased killings, the chairman called on president Buhari to to quickly del with the issues raised in the resolution by the joint executive session of the national assembly " We are worried about the latest overheating if the polity as politics continue to overshadow governance in our country and proffessionalism is fast becoming alien in our country. The latest is the elastic tolerance of the growing purity of the Inspector General of police. " It is on record that the OGP has defiled the authority of the president when he refused to relocate to Benue state to restore law and order. It is little wonder that the Nigerian police under him has become accumulated indication of source of anarchy. We are gradually rolling towards anarchy. We have looked at the record of the IGP and we have not seen any outstanding performance that would make the president jeep such a man in an esteemed position. Discipline has been broken down under this IGP. The chairman further explained that the growing intolerance of government to patriots who express contrary views to the distress if Government is another flashpoint anarchy. As in the case of T.Y Danjuma who exposed collision of military personnel with herdsmen and the recent attempt by the federal government to clamp former president olusegun in order to curtail his freedom for holding contrary political views against buhari' s government. " We are in democracy contrary opinion must be tolerated" www.globalsentinelng.com |

Buhari Declares June 12 As New Democracy Day To Honour Abiola President Muhammadu Buhari in a surprise move Wednesday declared June 12 Nigeria’s Democracy and also announced Nigeria’s highest honour, Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR, to the late businessman Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, winner of the election held on same date in 1993. The election, adjudged to be the freest and fairest up till that year, in Nigeria’s history was annulled by the military junta headed by Ibrahim Babangida, plunging Nigeria into a five-year political crisis. Abiola died in 1998 and General Sani Abacha, who was one of the beneficiaries of the annulment, died some weeks before him. President Buhari said Abiola’s running mate, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe will also be honoured with Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, the second highest honour. And so will Chief Gani Fawehinmi, the indefatigable lawyer and senior advocate who campaigned for the actualisation of June 12 up till Abiola’s death in 1998. The event will hold on June 12. From 2019, June 12 will now replace 29 May, the day the military handed over to civilians in 1999 as Nigeria’s democracy day. And it means that the rest of Nigeria will join states in the South West to celebrate the day. South West Nigeria since 1999 has been observing June 12 as Democracy Day but failed to convince their son, former President Olusegun Obasanjo to accord the date national recognition, when he ruled from 1999-2007 https://globalsentinelng.com/2018/06/06/buhari-declares-june-12-as-new-democracy-day-to-honour-abiola/ |
Real Story Of National Assembly Joint Session The Parliamentary Support Group of the Senate and House of Representatives has unveiled what transpired at the Tuesday’s emergency secret meeting of the National Assembly (NASS). The group said that all members that spoke at the joint session were mainly members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin (APC-Kano), said in a statement in Abuja, on behalf of the group. A joint session for the National Assembly on Tuesday passed a 12 point resolution calling on the executive to implement them or risk a constitutional sanction. “Almost all the members and senators that spoke at the Executive Session are of the PDP while members of the APC declined joining the discussion to avoid a rowdy confrontation,” he said . He observed that the Speaker, House of Representatives, “tactically” refused to make any comment at the session “even after the Senate President took time to explain the issues which are mostly personal”. He alleged that a known ally of the Senate President from Kwara, Rep Rasak Atunwa, drafted what was adopted as the resolution of the session without allowing for voting. “It is disturbing and raised many questions of pre-determined intentions,” Jibrin said. He said most of the issues raised during the session, concerning the fight against corruption, insecurity and the rule of law have earlier been severally discussed in the Senate and the House and various resolutions passed. “We commend the efforts of Mr President in the fight against corruption, tackling of the insecurity challenges and respect for rule of law and democratic institutions. Mr President is known for his non-interference policy. “Every Senator or Member of the House who has corruption or criminal allegation against him or her should clear his or her name without dragging the entire institution of the National Assembly into the matter, Jibrin said. He advised the National Assembly to look inward and address issues suffocating senators and members with dissenting or contrary opinion through coercion or extra legal means. “We must exercise caution at this delicate period not to over-heat the polity with statements that are capable of dividing the country, embarrassing us before the watching world and creating friction between the legislature and the executive, specifically Mr President. “We wish to reaffirm our support to Mr President as he works assiduously towards dealing with the challenges of our country,” Jibrin said. National Assembly Threatens Buhari, Lists Demands The National Assembly(NASS) has threatened to invoke ” the Constitutional Powers of the Parliament” against president Muhammadu Buhari administration if it fails to implement the list if demand tabled before it. The demands were listed as part of the outcome of an emergency executive joint session of both chambers of the National Assembly on Tuesday. The parliament listed the problems to include growing unemployment rate, poverty, insecurity, corruption, election rigging, harassment and humiliation of perceived opponents and violation of the principles of rule of law. The joint session also passed a vote of confidence on Senator Bukola Saraki, the Senate President, now the subject of police investigation over the 5 April robbery in Offa, Kwara state. In contrast, the National Assembly members passed a vote of no-confidence on the Inspector General of police, who they want the president to remove because of what they considered to be his “outright disregard for constitutional authority of both the executive and the legislature”. The lawmakers who met for over three hours in closed door, did not spell out what the “constitutional powers of the Parliament”, is but legal pundits said the only power they have is to set in motion an impeachment proceedings against the President. Among the list of demands, the legislators want the Buhari administration to address the current security situation in the country. They frowned at the constant harassment of legislators and other political actors, especially those who seem to hold a contrary view from the executive or those who are critical of the executive arm. The legislative arm called on the executive to show sincerity in the fight against corruption, adhere to the rule of law and refrain from the “intimidation of Nigerians”. They threatened that they may be forced to invoke their constitutional powers if the conditions were not met.
