All these professionals have one thing in common, one thing that binds them together, one thing that makes them members of ASUU and that is being lecturers which itself is a Profession. They are all teachers.


An Academic from any sector can Head ASSU or become a VC. It is fair that other health professional have same privilege.

Yes, any teacher from whatever field can head ASUU and become a VC. Expecting a non teacher to be a VC is bullshit the same way expecting non doctors to become cmd of teaching hospitals. Other health professional I agree should have some level of privilege the same way non teachers in the university have exclusive seats for them within the university system.

The Hospital will be useless without the Nurses, Med Lab, Radiologists, Physios etc. It is not an exclusive preserve of doctors.

These ones are support staff. I disagree that it will be useless. The chances of a very sick man surviving in an hospital with no support staff but filled with doctors is very high than an hospital filled with support staffs and no doctor.
Infact patients will prefer to go for the one with doctors than support staffs.

Let them stop this comparison of who is superior or not and face the oath of the profession. Sanctity of life should not be toiled with.

Talking of sacrifice.....what sacrifice are they making that is out of this world? Remember, they are paid all sorts of allowances which people in other sectors don't get. The salary and allowance they get is commensurate with the sacrifice they make. If every sector should claim superiority over another, there will be wahala. Please note that they are not agitating for salary increment cos I believe they are well paid......they are simply fighting their colleagues in the health sector.

If you talk of sacrifice, why not talk about our military men who risk their lives on daily basis to protect the territorial integrity of the nation.

They should just put their house in order. They are simply holding the nation to ransome because the presidency is tolerating their rubbish.

obi4eze: At present, medical doctors dont earn two doctorate degrees even after they go for PG studies. Other medical professionals graduate with Bachelors in their respective fields and go on to do PG before getting their Doctorate.
We all know that consultancy is optional but important and the MLSCN is introducing the 6-year DMLS programme in universities. Pharmacists have Pharm. D. The preparations for consultancy are on-going and it would be good if the FG signs the agreement. It would be a continuous process and help to encourage those from other medical professions.

Already, the AMLSN has men who are consultants im their own right just that they are not officially regarded as such e.g. Prof. Agbonlahor, Dr O. G. Avwioro, Prof A.A. Ngokere, etc.

You know what? The medical doctors have consultants in almost some specialties of MLS and maybe, Pharmacy. Go to any tertiary health centre and you'll see that they have a Consultant Haematologist or Consultant Pathologist. They are afraid that if these guys who actually own the profession become consultants, there will be real competition. Meanwhile, the medical doctors have other areas and we dare not compete in those areas because we aren't specialists in those areas e.g. O & G, Paediatrics, ENT, etc.
So why not leave the little we have and allow us to do well in ours. After all, we aren't stopping them from being consultants in our fields.

No one claimed they owned it. They themselves know they don't. However they are superior.

ASUU like you pointed out is made of Academics from DIFFERENT fields in the Academia. I don't see any correlation here.

The correlation is the their importance and relevance in that sector. No doctor no hospital, likewise no lecturer no university. It's as simple as that.


The Health Sector is made of different professionals with each having their distinctive roles. It is fair for Dokitas to give sanity a chance.

The same way the university system has various professionals. I agree that some post should be bequeathed to non doctors to give them sense of belonging like it's given to ssanu in the university like bursar's, librarian etc but for them to be fighting for the best the sector can give is ridiculous.
Do u know anywhere in the world where such is done? Kindly share please.

Consultancy in other medical fields will bring real competition and the doctors are afraid of that. If they aren't let them allow it and let's see the outcome.
