Please drinking carrot juice doesn't cure cancer...please stop spreading all these ineffective homeopathic remedies. A lady came to our clinic today with already advanced breast cancer because she has been drinking carrot juice since she discovered the breast lump two years ago. So sad!!

I'm a final year medical student. I have been taught that the above symptoms in a sexually active lady is a ruptured ectopic until proven otherwise. So a pregnancy test and ultrasound scan would have laid issues to rest and maybe she'll just lose a tube. But the young lady in question claimed she was a virgin. We all know virgins are not sexually active. So pursuing a diagnosis of ruptured ectopic is somehow. If it were in my centre, which is a tertiary centre maybe it would have been spotted. But I dunno if the hospital or health centre had a working USS machine or PT test kit at that time of the night. Yes, in most Nigerian hospitals, the doctors have to rely on their clinical acumen only. I won't rush to blame the Doctor, patients should always tell the truth to people that matter, their health care providers.
Doctors claiming to practice abroad who always bash Nigerian Doctors on Nairaland over misdiagnosis on twitter should cease and desist. You all worked previously in Nigeria before leaving for greener pastures. You know why you left, you know the situation here, because you're now in an ideal setting where everything works doesn't make you a better Doctor than those saving lives with their bare hands over here. In my hospital, Doctors have to improvise daily to make sure patients get better. You have to give them kudos. I can bet my kidneys that you would probably do worse if you were here.
Lastly, pressure should be put on the incoming Government to invest in their hospitals. The situation is appalling. My teaching hospital is one of the 'so-called' best in the South-south. There's no MRI, the CT-scan machine is bad. The X-Rays are of poor quality. Patients have to rely on private diagnostic facilities in town. The pharmacies do have all the drugs in stock, the labs are always coming up with spurious values. It won't cost up to what the Senators are consuming in a year to upgrade at least one teaching hospital per geopolitical zone to world class status. *drops mike* haha

For some time now, the Nigerian public health sector has been shut down due to the Doctors' strike. One reason why the Doctors went on strike is the fact that it was recently approved that Nurses and Pharmacists become Consultants. This was purportedly done in line with international best practices. So I went to do some research to ascertain if there are really Consultant Nurses and Pharmacists in the developed countries and what their functions are. The conflict in Nigeria health sector has tugged me to search for what is obtainable on the key warring issues in other developed countries. Ideally the Nigeria Health system format is supposed to be compared with that of the Britain(not the American’s) since Nigeria adopted and is using the British educational/health systems; however reference has been made on American health system in this write up, for obvious reason. Medical/hospital Consultant
The term or title “consultant” is coined from consultation. It is wise to see the standard definitions of medical consultation; which are:

In USA Consultant Nurse is a registered nurse who uses expertise as a healthcare provider and specialized training to consult on medical related legal case. They assist attorneys in reading medical records and understanding medical terminology and healthcare issues to achieve the best results for their client. This title is used in many countries for the senior government official designated as head of medical services, usually at the national level. [b]I hope this article has shed more light on the role of the Consultant Nurses/pharmacists in the health sector abroad, but our Nigeria counterparts want these non-doctor Consultants to operate in our tertiary hospitals. The year 2014 has been a very bad year for the health sector. Our health sector which is in it's infantile stages is akin to a child that suddenly starts to lose his/her developmental milestones. Healthcare in Nigeria is at par with what obtained in the US/UK in the 60s/70s. Common everyday procedures such as liver biopsies, CT scans and MRIs are a Herculean task over here. Our teaching hospitals have been reduced to the level of Primary health centres because what they mostly do is treat infectious dxs, minor surgeries and deliveries. It is absurd that in 2014 we still travel to other developing countries such as India for transplants and other not so complex surgeries. A country's citizens are supposed to hold their leaders accountable but in Nigeria we sing their praises for minuscule achievements, things which they are supposed to do normally. What the Doctors have asked for is not impossible to do, it just requires willpower on the part of the political class. Doctors are not supposed to go on strike, it is an anathema, the fact that this has happened in our society is an indictment. But If this strike is called off without resolving these issues, in 20 years when I will be 44 years old and an Ob/Gyn with a family, we will still be experiencing strikes for this same reasons. Doctors will still be carrying out surgical operations in our best teaching hospitals with the aid of torchlights and our political class will still be jetting out for the mildest ailment/ medical checkups.

Hi guys, i use an iPhone 4s, jailbroken and all buh my main problem with the device is file transfer via bluetooth and adding downloading songs to the music lib without using iTunes, i knw dat downloading airblue sharing and pwntunes via cydia would solve this, buh these are paid tweaks and my bank *****covers face**** union bank doesn't support online payments wiv their verve card. Well my first time was funny because i had to do it twice, the first time it appeared positive, i think the procedure the lab scientist used was wrong, she did it again and it was negative, i almost died between the intervals, although i was a virgin then, i was just wondering about all the barbing salons that i have been to, i did another one this year, this was even more terrifying, at least in the previous one i worked in the hospital as a microbiology intern, but i had to go to a heart too heart center for this one, imagine the lady telling me while waiting for my results that almost all the test she had carried out htis week were positive, i almost died, thank god it came out negative, i just entered one fastfood joint on my way home, ordered everything and ate to my satisfaction, and i am a medical student who knows all about the disease and am stilll this scared, it puts me off sex because the girls around are so loose, i wonder how it is for those not in the medical line, lol
