Career20 Year-old Nigerian Becomes The Youngest Commercial Pilot In Nigeria & S.A. by deolascope(op): 1:36pm On Apr 16, 2013
Exceptional feats like this are definitely worth celebrating!

A 20-year-old Nigerian, Favour Odozor, has emerged the youngest pilot to obtain a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) in both Nigeria and South Africa. The bright young man graduated alongside 15 other trained pilots at the Afrika Union Aviation Academy (AUAA), Mafikeng, South Africa on Saturday.

While speaking about Odozor's achievement, Capt. Allan Roebuck, Director of AUAA, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Johannesburg that he completed all the 37 flying procedures in record time. "The academy is proud of this young Nigerian, with the award of licence and certificate to him. I cannot say now if he is the youngest African to attain that record, but I’m sure he is the youngest in South Africa and Nigeria."

On his part, Mr. Odozor said he had always dreamt of becoming a pilot. “Flying a plane has been my childhood dream, and I am happy today that I’m a licensed commercial pilot at the age of 20. “I never expected myself to be the youngest Nigerian to get the commercial pilot licence, not to talk about in an advanced country like South Africa. I was just pursuing my childhood dream of being a pilot. “But I thank God that I have now made history, as a record licensed commercial pilot in both Nigeria and South Africa,’’ he said.

Mr. Odozor has equalled the record set by Ed Gardner, a Briton, who obtained his commercial pilot licence at the age of 20 in 2008.

RomanceRe: What Will You Do If You Wife Got Impregnated By Another Man? by deolascope: 12:18pm On May 25, 2012
I'm sure most of the comments here are coming from guys. In our society, men impregnate women outside their marital homes everyday and people just expect the woman to accept it, to keep quiet and stay in the marriage. But here, people are screaming kill her, divorce her, kick her out, blah blah blah..... Let's turn the tables around please. What should a woman do if her husband gets another woman pregnant? Kill him, divorce him, kick him out? It's so sad how people just expect a woman to be faithful and find it OK or normal if a man isn't.... really sad.
Nairaland GeneralTiger Woods Has A New Girlfriend by deolascope(op): 7:24am On Mar 21, 2011
http://deolascope..com/

Tiger Woods has reportedly jumped back into the dating pool and is seeing a 22-year-old student who looks just like his ex-wife Elin Nordegren.
But Alyse Lahti Johnston who is 13 years younger than the golfer also has a checkered past - she was arrested on suspicion of DUI last year.
The University student and budding golfer has been spending a lot of time with Woods in recent weeks.
Johnston's father is an executive at IMG which is the sports agency that represents Woods.
A source told TerezOwens, a leading sports blog, that the the two have been seeing each other for a few months now and have been spotted on Woods' yacht.
They were apparently there with another couple and he is said to be smitten with her.
But it seems that Woods' new girl is a class act like the stream of mistresses that came out of the woodwork two years ago leading to the implosion of his marriage.
A mug shot of Johnston stemming from her DUI arrest on October 9 last year by police in Orlando, Florida shows she looked a bit worse for wear on the date she was pulled over.
However, a lesser charge of Reckless Driving, a first degree misdemeanor, was brought against her on December 10. She was represented by a high-profile Florida attorney.

PoliticsSenate Confirms Ambassador Who Failed Anthem Test by deolascope(op): 2:29am On Mar 17, 2011
The Senate has confirmed the ambassadorial appointment of Ijeoma Bristol, who COULD NOT recite the national anthem when she appeared before it a fortnight ago, on compassionate grounds.

Mrs Bristol, from Anambra State, had failed to impress the senate committee on foreign affairs at a screening of ambassadorial nominees. She was not able to recite both the national anthem and the pledge. She could also not say the capital of Jigawa State.

“She demonstrated fair knowledge of the job and what is required of her as an ambassador,  but was not knowledgeable on specific and general issues concerning the diplomatic concerns of Nigeria,” Jubril Aminu (PDP Adamawa State), head of the senate committee on foreign affairs, said in his report to the senate.

“She was nervous during the interview,” Grace Bent, another member of the foreign affairs committee added.
Despite her shortcomings, the senate’s foreign affairs committee recommended that she should be approved for the job “so that she will retire as an ambassador”.

Mr. Aminu told the senate that even though he was personally against Mrs Bristol’s approval for the job and had advised that she go and learn about Nigeria first, majority of the committee members were lobbied to approve her.

Nairaland GeneralEgyptian Man Names His Child ‘facebook’. by deolascope(op): 3:40am On Mar 14, 2011
Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram is reporting that 20-something Jamal Ibrahim has decided to name his daughter "Facebook" Jamal Ibrahim in honor of the service that helped anti-government protests overthrow Egyptian dictator Muhammad Hosni Sayyid Mubarak.

"The girl's family, friends, and neighbours in the Ibrahimya region gathered around the new born to express their continuing support for the revolution that started on Facebook," reads an English translation of the paper as supplied by TechCrunch. "'Facebook' received many gifts from the youth who were overjoyed by her arrival and the new name-a name that shocked the entire world."

Although Facebook wasn't the only service in use by Egyptians during the roughly three weeks of protests within the country, it's certainly the service that's received the most widespread follow-up in the aftermath. Roughly 5 million of the country's citizens have active Facebook accounts, and the company saw more than 32,000 different groups and 14,000 new pages pop up on the service within approximately the last two weeks of January.

PoliticsIbori’s Uk Lawyer Sentenced To 7 Years In Prison by deolascope(op): 10:36am On Mar 09, 2011
Bhadresh Gohil a partner at Arlington Sharma Solicitors and James Ibori’s lawyer was yesterday sentenced to 7 years in prison in a packed Southwark Crown Court. He was described by the judge as the “architect” and the predicate offender in a thoroughly dishonest scheme which had been devised simply to divert resources of Nigerian state funds into the pockets of others from the sale of ‘V Mobile’ shares, the third largest wireless network in operation in the whole of the African continent now known as “Airtel.” Gohil went to extra ordinary lengths to carry out the fraud with no regard for his professional duties.

In 2005 whilst James Ibori was the Governor, the Delta State owned 18% of the shares in V Mobile and The Akwa Ibom state owned 10% with Obong Victor Attah in power. Both were on the board of V Mobile and privy to all the dealings. So in June 2005, when a sale of the company was considered there were already offers on the table from major international operators such as Vodaphone, Virgin, Celtel and Econet amongst others. By late 2005 the market had been fully tested and although there was no requirement for any additional advice and due to the greed of our leaders, both James Ibori and Victor Attah together decided to plunder the asset and divert funds to their own coffers.

Other Nigerian officials accused in the scam are currently at large. They include Mr. Ibori, former Governor of Delta state, Victor Obong Attah of Akwa Ibom, David Edevbie, a former Principal Secretary to Umaru Yar'Adua, Love Ojakovo, a former commissioner of finance to Ibori and Henry Imashekka, a business associate of Ibori.

PoliticsRibadu, Adeola, Tinubu Escape Death by deolascope(op): 3:49am On Mar 09, 2011
The Presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, Vice Presidential candidate, Mr Fola Adeola, and other party chieftains narrowly escaped death at the Bauchi Airport in Bauchi according to a statement by the Director of Media and publicity of the Nuhu Ribadu Campaign Organisation, Ibrahim Modibbo.

The accident Modibbo said occurred when the chartered airplane conveying Mr. Adeola and chieftains of the ACN including the Deputy National Chairman of the party, Boss Mustapha; and Yusuf Alli, former National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party; crash landed due to non clearance of the airport runway by airport authorities.

The runway which had been taken over by rams and goats, was not cleared which caused the pilot of the aircraft with number 5BN-BNR to do a forced-landing, damaging the aircraft in the process. The accident occurred at about 12.00 noon.

Meanwhile, the aircraft conveying the ACN presidential candidate, Nuhu Ribadu, and other leader leaders of the party such as Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had to hover in the air for about an hour for the runway to be cleared before the crash.

PoliticsCocktail With Fola Adeola by deolascope(op): 3:14am On Mar 09, 2011
Fola Adeola, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), presented his agenda to youth in Lagos last Sunday at a cocktail, ‘Time for Change’.

Mr Adeola, at the interactive session, also explained the events that led to his accepting the ticket. According to him, the decision is to enable him create: “An opportunity to create a level playing ground, a conducive environment that allows people to be the best that they can be, allowing institutions to be that which they intended to be.”

His plans

Mr Adeola also responded to questions from youth who expressed concerns about his integrity and how he would uphold it. While responding to a question on how he would tackle godfatherism, nepotism, and other vices evident in Nigerian politics, he said that the people who selected him knew about his records before and have not asked him to do anything contrary to what he stands for. “The offer that I received was to run with Nuhu Ribadu as his running mate,” he said. “I have been among these people for two weeks and a bit now, and so far, I can bear that nobody has asked me to do that which I didn’t want to do. I haven’t found anything objectionable about it.”

In the area of constant electric supply, Mr Adeola said his plan was “to give Nigerians sustainable energy supply,” adding that he would put the right people in the right places to execute the solution. “The problem is not one of planning, it is one of execution,” he said. “For those people who have the responsibility of executing, they find it more profitable not to execute than to execute.” He also promised to find ways of reducing the huge amounts spent on refining crude oil in other countries. “We’ll get the refinery fixed by people who know how to fix refineries,” he said.

Achieving accountability

The issue of transparency and accountability in government was raised by a number of people who felt unsatisfied by the way public office holders were unaccountable especially in the area of allocating funds. Responding to this, Mr Adeola said it was the collective responsibility of everyone to get involved with holding people in government accountable for their actions, not only at the federal level, but at all levels of government.

“Everything is completely opaque now,” he said. “Nothing must be hidden. Opaqueness is not only in Abuja. Abuja is the one you read about in the newspapers. There is more opaqueness next to your house where the guy who is supposed to clean the drain in front of your house hasn’t cleaned the drain and you don’t even know where he is. Fifty percent of the reasons we are where we are today is because nobody has done anything about it. What will help the government is when people like you begin to get interested. When I say get interested, you don’t have to leave your work to go and work for government, but be interested in everything that goes on. That which we are about to do is only doable once you do your own bit.”
