PoliticsAtiku’s US Lobbyist Alleges Political Intimidation, Threatens To Brief Trump by Deollaa(op): 8:37am On May 19
A United States-based lobbying firm linked to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of political intimidation and suppression of dissent ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lobbying group, Von Batten-Montague-York L.C., made the allegations in a statement posted on its official X account on Monday, warning that it may brief the administration of US President Donald Trump and the US Congress on the situation in Nigeria.

“The Nigerian government under Bola Tinubu is increasingly displaying the behaviour of a single-party dictatorship consolidating power through fear and intimidation,” the statement read.

The statement comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding El-Rufai’s continued detention.

The former governor has reportedly spent over 90 days in custody despite being granted ₦100 million bail by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik in a national security-related case.

However, he remains detained following a separate corruption case involving the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

His detention has triggered protests by supporters and allies outside the headquarters of the Department of State Services in Abuja.

Demonstrators accused security agencies of disregarding court rulings and denying the former governor adequate access to medical care and legal rights.

Foreign AffairsNigeria, Benin Deepen Cross-Border Security, Trade Cooperation by Deollaa(op): 7:56am On May 19
The National Boundary Commission has reaffirmed the importance of stronger border demarcation and regional collaboration in enhancing security, trade, and economic opportunities between Nigeria and Benin Republic.

The Director-General of the commission, Adamu Adaji, made this known during a two-day Cross Border Cooperation Programme held along the Nigeria-Benin and Benin-Togo borders on 14 and 15 May, 2026.

Adaji was represented at the event by the Head of Cross Border Cooperation, Farouk Tarfa.
“Clearly defined and properly demarcated borders remain critical to enhancing cross-border cooperation, community resilience, peace, and security across the African continent,” Adaji stated.

The programme was hosted by the Director-General of the National Boundary Commission of Benin Republic, Yousouf Adams.

Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen peaceful coexistence, improve border governance, and deepen regional integration within West Africa.

Adaji noted that many African borders inherited during the colonial era remained unclear at independence, but African leaders chose dialogue and cooperation over conflict in resolving boundary issues.

He also called for continued support from the German International Cooperation toward completing the demarcation of the Nigeria-Benin boundary.

“The successful completion of the demarcation process will pave the way for improved cross-border cooperation, enhanced livelihood opportunities for borderland communities, and strengthened border security,” he said.

BusinessDangote Refinery Reduces Jet Fuel Price To ₦1,650 Per Litre by Deollaa(op): 7:40am On May 19
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dropped the price of jet fuel from N1,750 to N1,650 per litre. The company disclosed this in a statement made available to The PUNCH on Monday.

Recall that airlines in Nigeria recently threatened to stop operations due to the rising cost of aviation fuel.

Since the advent of the US-Iran war, there has been a spike in aviation fuel in Nigeria, which the Airline Operators of Nigeria said was not proportionate to the hike internationally.

According to the airlines, fuel prices have skyrocketed from about N900 per litre before the crisis to between N2,700 and N2,900, with some marketers selling as high as N3,300.

But in the statement on Monday, the Dangote refinery said the price drop was in addition to a 30-day interest-free credit facility backed by bank guarantees for marketers and airline operators and a shift from a dollar-denominated pricing structure to a naira-based model.

“Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has reduced the price of aviation fuel (Jet A1) to N1,650 per litre from N1,750 per litre in a move aimed at easing cost pressures on airlines and ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply across the country.

“This is in addition to a 30-day interest-free credit facility backed by bank guarantees (BG) for marketers and airline operators and a shift from a dollar-denominated pricing structure to a naira-based model,” the statement read partly.

It added that the interventions come amid growing concerns over the rising operational costs faced by domestic carriers, with aviation fuel accounting for a significant portion of airline expenses.

Industry stakeholders have repeatedly warned that escalating Jet A1 prices were placing severe financial strain on operators and threatening the sustainability of flight operations.

The refinery’s decision is expected to provide relief to airline operators by lowering fuel procurement costs, improving operational stability, and supporting efforts to moderate airfares.

Politics2027: Atiku, Amaechi Submit ADC Presidential Forms by Deollaa(op): 10:30am On May 15
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi on Thursday submitted their presidential nomination forms at the national secretariat of the African Democratic Congress in Abuja.

Mr Atiku, in a post shared on his X handle on Thursday, said his presidential bid represents a broader movement aimed at restoring national prosperity and rebuilding Nigeria.

Mr Amaechi, on his part, pledged to turn the country around within four years if elected, arguing that competence, experience and performance—not ethnicity or political sentiment—should determine the 2027 contest.

Their declarations come as the ADC continues to attract high-profile politicians ahead of the next general elections, amid intensifying political realignments across the country.

Speaking after submitting his form at the ADC national headquarters in Abuja, Mr Atiku wrote, “The march to restore prosperity and better days to our beloved nation took a firm and decisive step forward today at the national secretariat of our great party, the African Democratic Congress.”

The former vice president said the movement transcended politics and was focused on national renewal and hope.
“This is more than a political journey; it is a national movement rooted in hope, renewal, and the collective resolve to save Nigeria from despair,” he stated.
He also called on Nigerians across ethnic, religious and regional divides to support the movement.
“I call on all Nigerians, regardless of region, faith, or background, to join us in this noble cause. Together, we will restore the promise of our nation and bring good times back again,” he added.

2027 race

Mr Amaechi pledged to transform Nigeria within four years if elected in the 2027 general election.

The former Rivers State governor made the promise shortly after submitting his nomination forms, where he also took a swipe at the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, blaming it for the country’s worsening economic hardship.

Mr Amaechi said the 2027 election should be based on competence, experience and performance rather than ethnic or regional sentiments.

“What Nigerians should do is assess all of us who are running for office based on our records.
“Nearly everybody who is running for the office of the president has served Nigeria in one way or another. Let this be a referendum. If you have performed, whoever has outperformed the other, vote for the person,” he said.

Politics“jonathan’s Return Would Be Back To His Vomit” — Chilaka, Others Warn Jonathan A by Deollaa(op):
Political analyst Prince Francis Chilaka, has warned former President Goodluck Jonathan against returning to the presidential race, saying such a move could damage the statesman image he has built since leaving office.

Mr Chilaka made the remarks on Tuesday during an interview on VOPTV’s VOP This Morning programme, while discussing emerging political alliances and recent endorsements ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“If Jonathan is a smart man... it’s not proper for him to go back to his vomit. If Jonathan makes that mistake of coming back, everything he has built so far will be thrown to the gutters,” he said.

Speculation around Mr Jonathan’s political future has resurfaced amid ongoing opposition realignments and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 elections, although the former president has not publicly declared any intention to contest.

Mr Chilaka argued that Mr Jonathan’s post-presidency reputation has largely been shaped by his peaceful concession of defeat in 2015 and his role as an elder statesman across Africa.

According to him, a return to partisan presidential politics could erode the goodwill and international respect the former leader currently enjoys.

NDC convention and opposition calculations

The debate followed the recent convention of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Abuja, where the party ratified the zoning of its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

Political observers believe the decision is aimed at creating room for a possible alliance involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Another analyst on the programme, Ahmed Mubarak, said northern political support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is part of a long-term zoning calculation.

“They just want the South to quickly complete four more years so that the North can have the moral justification to say power should return back to the North,” Mr Mubarak stated.

He argued that some northern political interests now favour a “four-plus-four” arrangement that would allow the region to legitimately seek power again in 2031.

Analysts doubt opposition strength

Mr Mubarak also said the opposition remains fragmented and may struggle to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress effectively.

“The opposition is very, very divided... They are splitting the vote again, the same mechanism that took place in 2023,” he said.

Another panelist, Mr Elvis, argued that incumbency advantage continues to favour President Tinubu ahead of 2027.

“The vote is already intact because the president has said grab it, snatch it, and run with it,” he alleged.

Politics2027: “why North Settled For Peter Obi As Most Capable Ally” – Kwankwaso by Deollaa(op): 10:12am On May 12
A former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, says northern political leaders deliberately chose Peter Obi as their preferred political ally for the 2027 presidential race after assessing key opposition figures across the country.

Mr Kwankwaso made the disclosure during an interview on Arise TV on Monday, dismissing speculations of a hidden power struggle between both camps within the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

“I looked around together with our leadership in the north to say, okay, who do we think is capable? Who can come and work together with us honestly so that we can move this country?” he said.

“Along the line, we realised that Peter Obi is at the forefront of it. That’s why we all accepted to work together.”

Mr Kwankwaso’s remarks come days after he and Mr Obi formally defected to the NDC following their exit from the crisis-ridden African Democratic Congress, further reshaping opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kwankwaso dismisses rivalry claims

Responding to concerns over possible tensions between the Obi and Kwankwaso camps, Mr Kwankwaso argued that conflicts between political leaders and their deputies are often caused by greed rather than structural problems.

“The problem people are having, especially leaders, is that they are too greedy to the extent that they begin to have issues. There is so much to do. You don’t have to fight your deputy,” he stated.

Mr Kwankwaso cited his political experience as former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and former governor of Kano State as proof that strong political partnerships can survive under pressure.

“I was in Kano for eight years despite the difficulty of my then deputy governor. We were able to work for eight years amicably,” he said.

Historical north-south alliance

Mr Kwankwaso traced the new alliance to earlier North-South political collaborations in Nigeria’s history.

“Right from the beginning, this sort of alliance has been in existence. Now we are going back to what Tafawa Balewa did during their time,” he said.

He referenced former Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and the alliance with leaders of the NCNC during the First Republic, as well as the partnership between former President Shehu Shagari and former Vice President Alex Ekwueme in the Second Republic.

“They are our friends. We want to work together with them,” Mr Kwankwaso added.

The former governor suggested that subsequent political arrangements sidelined the South-East, adding that the current alliance seeks to restore broader regional balance in national politics.

PoliticsWe Got Nothing For Helping Buhari Win In 2015 — Kwankwaso by Deollaa(op): 9:55am On May 12
Former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has said he and his political supporters gained nothing after helping former President Muhammadu Buhari secure victory in the 2015 presidential election.

Mr Kwankwaso made the remarks during an interview on Arise TV on Monday, while reflecting on his political journey and the factors that pushed him toward seeking a new political direction.

“I worked so hard. We brought about 1.9, almost 2 million votes. But as politicians, we are not recognised,” he said.

“We put our lives even on the line at that time. But unfortunately, we could not see any benefit either as individuals or the constituencies that we represented.”

Reflection on past administrations

Mr Kwankwaso did not specify what benefits he expected from the Buhari administration or what he believed was lacking after the 2015 election.

However, he reviewed successive Nigerian governments since 1999, arguing that the country has yet to experience the level of leadership needed for meaningful national progress.

He said former President Olusegun Obasanjo “did his best,” while the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua faced severe health challenges during his administration.

He also stated that former President Goodluck Jonathan governed under political complications linked to a disputed one-term arrangement.

Turning to the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr Kwankwaso said, “Everybody knows there are issues with this administration again.”

PoliticsYar’adua’s Death Created Zoning Crisis — Kwankwaso by Deollaa(op): 9:37am On May 12
A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, says the death of former President Umar Musa Yar’adua created confusion over Nigeria’s power rotation arrangement between the North and South.

Mr Kwankwaso stated this during an interview on Arise TV on Monday while defending the NDC’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

“We believe the best way to go now is to take it to the south so that we can eliminate the confusion… that emanated from the death of our brother, our friend, Umar Musa Yar’adua,” he said.

Mr Kwankwaso and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi formally joined the NDC on 3 May after defecting from the African Democratic Congress amid internal disputes and litigation within the opposition party.

At its national convention in Abuja, the NDC officially ratified the decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

Zoning debate and political balance

Mr Yar’adua, who was elected president in 2007, died in office in May 2010 after a prolonged illness, completing less than one term in office.

His deputy, former President Goodluck Jonathan from the South, completed the tenure and later won a fresh mandate in the 2011 presidential election.

Mr Kwankwaso acknowledged that arguments surrounding zoning often depend on where political actors begin their calculations.

“One can argue that from 1999 to date, the south has done more years than the north. But it depends on how it suits you,” he said.

The zoning principle remains one of the most sensitive issues in Nigerian politics, particularly ahead of presidential elections, with major parties often balancing tickets between the North and South to maintain political stability.

Music/RadioNo. 1 Best Radio Station In Lagos, Nigeria- Voice Of The People 90.3FM by Deollaa(op): 1:44pm On May 09
Lagos is widely regarded as the media capital of Nigeria, home to dozens of radio stations competing for listeners across entertainment, politics, sports, and current affairs. However, among the growing list of influential stations, VOP 90.3FM has emerged as one of the most talked-about radio brands in Lagos and Nigeria.

Voice of the People 90.3FM, popularly called VOP 90.3FM, has built its identity around fearless journalism, audience participation, political commentary, and people-centered broadcasting.

Located along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road in Lagos, the station has rapidly transformed from a relatively new broadcaster into one of the city’s most recognised radio platforms.

What separates VOP from many conventional stations is its focus on real national conversations. Instead of concentrating mainly on music rotation and celebrity entertainment, the station prioritizes governance, economy, public accountability, elections, security, and social development.

Its programming structure includes newspaper reviews, political analysis, audience call-ins, interviews, documentaries, public affairs discussions, and multilingual engagement aimed at connecting with Nigerians across different ethnic and social backgrounds.

One of the station’s biggest strengths is interactivity. VOP 90.3FM heavily integrates audience participation into its programming through phone-ins, social media discussions, livestream engagement, and real-time reactions from listeners.

According to reports published online, the station was recently rated the most listened-to radio station in Nigeria, with reported daily listenership reaching millions and subscriber growth continuing across digital platforms.

The station’s slogan, “Now, you have a voice,” reflects its broader mission of amplifying public opinion and encouraging civic participation.

EntertainmentBest Media Company In Nigeria: Why VOP Media Is Now Ranked Among Nigeria’s Leadi by Deollaa(op): 1:22pm On May 09
Nigeria’s media industry is one of the most competitive in Africa, with television stations, radio houses, newspapers, and digital platforms battling daily for audience attention. Yet, in just a few years, one brand has managed to rise aggressively through the ranks — Voice of the People Media, popularly known as VOP Media.

From radio broadcasting to television and digital streaming, VOP Media has positioned itself as one of the fastest-growing independent media organizations in Nigeria. The Lagos-based media company has built a reputation around fearless journalism, people-centered conversations, political analysis, and strong public engagement.

Unlike many traditional broadcast organizations that focus heavily on entertainment programming, VOP Media has carved a niche by combining current affairs, governance analysis, documentaries, social conversations, business discussions, and audience-driven programming into one multimedia ecosystem.

Voice of the people (VOP) Media was founded during the intense political atmosphere surrounding Nigeria’s 2023 elections with a mission to amplify the voices of ordinary Nigerians and challenge conventional broadcasting narratives.

Today, that vision has evolved into a multi-platform media brand operating both television and radio channels while maintaining a strong digital footprint across YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and X.

One of the strongest factors driving the growth of VOP Media is its aggressive digital transformation strategy. While many legacy media organizations still depend heavily on traditional broadcasting systems, VOP has expanded rapidly into live streaming and online audience engagement.

Its digital broadcasts now reach audiences not only across Lagos and Nigeria but also Nigerians in the diaspora community globally.

The media organization describes itself as a “people-first unbiased media platform” focused on equality of representation, fairness, and impactful storytelling.

Another major advantage for VOP Media is its cross-platform synergy between radio and television broadcasting. The organization’s television arm, VOPTV benefits from the already established popularity of VOP 90.3FM, helping the brand maintain continuous audience engagement across multiple channels.

Politics“I Never Promised To Fix Power Grid In Three Months” — Tegbe by Deollaa(op): 1:08pm On May 08
The Minister-designate for Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has denied reports claiming he promised to fix Nigeria’s national power grid within three months.

Mr Tegbe, through his spokesperson Adeola Adelabu, described the reports as a misrepresentation of comments made during his Senate screening on 06 May 2026.

The clarification was issued on Thursday in a statement posted on X, insisting that no such timeline was committed to during his appearance before lawmakers.

Clarification on senate screening remarks

According to the statement, Mr Tegbe did not promise a three-month turnaround for the power sector but only referenced phased reforms subject to technical assessments and consultations.

“Our attention has been drawn to inaccurate media reports alleging that the Honourable Minister-designate… promised to fix Nigeria’s power grid within three months. This claim is a clear misrepresentation,” the statement read.

He instead explained that initial interventions aimed at stabilising the grid would begin within his first 100 days in office, while broader reforms could take up to one year.

PoliticsKwara APC Vows To Respect President Tinubu, Abdulrazaq Consensus by Deollaa(op): 12:09pm On May 08
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State have pledged to abide by any consensus arrangement adopted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The position was made known on Thursday in Ilorin during a press briefing by the Amalgamated APC Elders and Stakeholders Forum, comprising representatives from the three senatorial districts of the state.

The stakeholders said they remain committed to whatever decision is reached by Mr Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and the National Working Committee of the APC.

Prof. Khalid Dasuki and Ambassador Julius Balogun, who spoke on behalf of the forum, said the party leadership has demonstrated strong political foresight in managing internal arrangements across several states.

“We are proud of the proactive leadership being demonstrated by the president and the party… we trust in the judgement and wisdom of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” they said.

The remarks reflect ongoing efforts by the APC to use consensus-based strategies to reduce internal disputes and strengthen cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.

Reference to past political strategy

The stakeholders recalled President Tinubu’s earlier role in stabilising the APC structure in Kwara State during the 2019 elections, which led to the success of the “Otoge” political movement and the emergence of Governor AbdulRazaq.

“The President already has a positive precedent with us here in Kwara… it was through his leadership that the party was successfully navigated in 2019,” they said.

The group urged party leaders to ensure that any consensus candidate must be widely acceptable and capable of sustaining APC’s political dominance in the state.

They stressed the need for unity, warning against internal divisions that could weaken the party’s electoral chances.

“With the Otoge Revolution of 2019, Kwara State was liberated… the state cannot afford to go back,” they added.

IslamHajj 2026: Nigerian Pilgrims Begin Movement From Madinah To Makkah by Deollaa(op): 11:57am On May 08
Nigerian pilgrims in Madinah have begun their movement to Makkah on Thursday as part of the ongoing Hajj 2026 operations.

The transition was confirmed by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, which said the movement commenced after pilgrims completed a four-day stay in Madinah.

NAHCON stated that four approved airlines, Max Air, Umza Airline, Air Peace, and Flynas, have transported a total of 9,756 Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia so far.

The commission said the airlift exercise is progressing smoothly under coordinated arrangements involving state pilgrims’ welfare boards.

Rawdah visit guidelines

NAHCON also advised pilgrims intending to visit the Rawdah, the sacred burial chamber of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), to work closely with their respective state officials for proper scheduling.

“Pilgrims are kindly reminded that, due to congestion and crowd management measures, access to the Rawdah is strictly subject to space availability and approved bookings,” the commission stated.

It further urged pilgrims to remain patient, orderly, and to follow guidance from Islamic scholars regarding the rites of Hajj.

Politics2027: Jonathan Considers Comeback As Court Hears Eligibility Suit Today by Deollaa(op): 11:49am On May 08
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said he will consult widely before deciding whether to contest the 2027 presidential election, as a Federal High Court in Abuja prepares to hear a suit challenging his eligibility to return to office.

Mr Jonathan made the remarks on Thursday while receiving youth groups at his office in Abuja, where they urged him to join the 2027 presidential race.

“You are asking me to come and contest the next election. The presidential race is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you, and I’ll consult widely,” he said.

Jonathan calls for credible elections

The former President commended the youths for showing interest in Nigeria’s future, describing patriotism as essential to nation-building.

“If you have no interest in the country, you will not bother to be here,” he added.

Mr Jonathan also urged young Nigerians to advocate for peaceful and credible elections, warning that flawed electoral processes discourage competent citizens from participating in politics.

“The key thing we need in this country is peace… because if we don’t have peaceful and credible elections, most good citizens will not want to bother to get involved in politics,” he stated.

Concern over low voter turnout

The former President lamented Nigeria’s poor voter participation compared to other countries where he had observed elections.

“Nigeria has the lowest turnout in every election cycle,” he said.

PoliticsJudge Okays El-rufai’s Medical Treatment In Custody by Deollaa(op): 11:27am On May 07
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on Wednesday confirmed that the Federal High Court in Kaduna has granted former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai access to medical treatment while in custody over alleged corruption-related offences.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Rilwan Aikawa following an application by the defence during proceedings in the ongoing trial.

Mr El-Rufai and co-defendant Joel Adoga are facing a 10-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering, conversion, and possession of proceeds of corruption contrary to the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Court grants medical access

According to a statement issued by ICPC spokesman John Odey, the defence counsel appealed to the court on compassionate grounds, requesting medical access for Mr El-Rufai.

“In the course of proceedings, the defence counsel also made a compassionate plea urging the court to direct the commission to allow the defendant access to medical treatment, specifically for dental and eye care,” the statement said.

The defence specifically sought permission for treatment at Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye-Q Hospital in Abuja.

Ruling on the request, Justice Aikawa directed the ICPC to transport Mr El-Rufai to the medical facilities under strict supervision and return him to custody immediately after treatment.

The judge stressed that all movements relating to the medical visits must remain under the commission’s control.

PoliticsAisha Yesufu Dumps ADC For NDC, Declares For FCT Senate Seat by Deollaa(op): 6:45pm On May 06
Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has resigned from the African Democratic Congress and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, declaring her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Ms Yesufu disclosed this in a statement posted on her X handle on Wednesday, citing a renewed political direction and alignment with former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

“The next couple of days will define the future of this nation… This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the ADC to join the NDC as I follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi,” she said.

The development follows the recent defection of Mr Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the NDC, a move that has triggered a wave of political migration from the ADC.

Senate ambition

Ms Yesufu confirmed she would not only join the party but also contest for the FCT senatorial seat under its platform.

“This time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she stated.

She explained that her political decisions have been guided by her commitment to supporting Mr Obi’s vision for Nigeria.

“When I give my word, I keep it… To continue to honour the promise I am joining the NDC,” she added.

Exit from ADC

Ms Yesufu said she ensured a smooth and “clean transition” from the ADC, expressing gratitude to party members for their support during her time in the organisation.

“I was fortunate to work with great and amazing people whose goal was a better country,” she said, noting that she served in various capacities, including sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary.

Foreign AffairsIndia Condemns Strike On UAE, Urges Hormuz Stability by Deollaa(op): 10:37am On May 05
The government of India has condemned a drone strike on an energy facility in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, which left three Indian nationals injured, calling for an immediate end to attacks on civilian infrastructure and unhindered access to the Strait of Hormuz.

The condemnation was issued on Tuesday by India’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, following the incident that occurred on Monday amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

“We call for immediate cessation of these hostilities and the targeting of civilian infrastructure and innocent civilians,” Mr Jaiswal said.

Mr Jaiswal emphasised the need to maintain open global energy routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, a critical channel for oil shipments.

“We also call for free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through the Strait of Hormuz in keeping with international law,” he added.

India relies heavily on oil imports, with nearly half of its crude supplies typically passing through the Strait of Hormuz, making any disruption a major economic concern.

Blame and denial

Authorities in the UAE blamed Iran for the drone strike, alleging responsibility for the attack on the energy installation.

However, Iranian state media denied any planned involvement.

“Iran had no pre-planned programme” to attack oil facilities in the UAE, according to state television.

PoliticsObi, Kwankwaso’s Exit Setback But Relief, Says ADC by Deollaa(op): 10:26am On May 05
The African Democratic Congress has described the departure of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and ex-Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as a setback but not a fatal blow to the party’s 2027 ambitions.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made this known on Monday during an interview on Arise News’ Prime Time programme.

Mr Abdullahi said, “Is it a setback? The answer is yes. Is it a fatal blow? The answer is no, because the objectives are very clear. They are still the same.”

Mr Obi and Mr Kwankwaso had briefly aligned with the ADC as part of efforts to build a broad opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections but have since defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

When pressed on whether their exit had weakened the party’s prospects, Mr Abdullahi said past electoral performance does not necessarily translate into future votes.

“Personally, I’m not happy they left. And I cannot tell you why, because I have my own sentiments. I’m not happy they left,” he added.

He noted, however, that their departure also brought some relief to the party.

In a way, it’s a bit of relief. Now we can focus on really doing what we need to do without being under the pressure cooker that they were trying to put us in. I am not disheartened. No, no, not at all,” Mr Abdullahi said.

He further stated that the ADC does not consider the two politicians as enemies.

We don’t think they are our enemies. We are not going to go into a dogfight with them,” he said.

PoliticsObi Ignored ADC Policies, Focused On 2027 Ticket — Abdullahi by Deollaa(op): 10:14am On May 05
The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Bolaji Abdullahi, has accused former presidential candidate Peter Obi of showing little interest in the party’s policy framework, alleging that his primary focus was securing the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.

Mr Abdullahi made the claim on Monday during an appearance on Arise News’ Prime Time programme, where he also described the recent exit of Mr Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from the party as a setback but not a fatal blow.

The remarks follow Peter Obi’s exit from the African Democratic Congress, which he joined in March 2026 as part of a broader opposition coalition but left shortly after, citing internal crises and ongoing litigations.

‘He never engaged our policies’

Mr Abdullahi said the ADC had spent months developing a policy-driven manifesto, but Mr Obi failed to engage with its content.

“You may invite His Excellency Peter Obi and ask him, what is the ADC position on fuel subsidy? What is the ADC’s framework on security? He doesn’t know, because he’s never been interested,” he said.

“They are just waiting for the tickets to be handed to them,” he added.

Party membership divisions

Mr Abdullahi said ADC members fall into three categories: those seeking a platform for elections, those committed to ending what they describe as misgovernance by the All Progressives Congress, and those focused on building a policy-driven political party.

He suggested Mr Obi belonged to the first group.

“If you say you want to contest election… you should know what your party stands for,” he said.

ADC’s 2027 prospects

Despite the high-profile exits, Mr Abdullahi expressed confidence in the party’s ability to remain competitive ahead of the 2027 elections.

“No, no, no, absolutely. Maybe it’s a setback, but it’s a temporary setback. We are recalibrating, and we are going to come back stronger,” he said.

He added that the possibility of a three-horse race in 2027 may affect dynamics but would not cripple the party’s chances.

Mr Abdullahi also dismissed suggestions that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had emerged as the frontrunner for the ADC ticket following recent defections.

“This party ADC is not going to be an SPV for anybody,” he said, noting that other aspirants, including Rotimi Amaechi, remain in contention.

Defection to NDC

Mr Obi and Mr Kwankwaso officially left the ADC on Sunday, citing internal disputes and what they described as deliberate efforts to frustrate their political participation.

PoliticsIf Bode George Don’t Shut Up, We Will Expel Him — Doherty Warns by Deollaa(op): 7:45pm On May 04
The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-West, Adedeji Doherty, has warned the former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Bode George, to desist from his incessant criticisms of its national leader and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, or face expulsion from the party.

Reacting to the recent Supreme Court judgment, Doherty maintained that the ruling was timely and had concluded as expected. He insisted that the PDP would, henceforth, “wield its big stick” to sanction any recalcitrant member seeking to play the role of a spoiler.

“We won’t hesitate to expel Chief Bode George from his ward and local government in Lagos State if he continues to malign Wike in the media. Enough is enough!”

stated that he had predicted last year that the South-West convention—spearheaded by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde—would dwindle the fortunes of the PDP. He noted that the event was held without recourse to the statutory framework of the party, which dictates that congresses from the ward to the state level must be concluded before a national convention. He likened Makinde’s actions to the Biblical harlot who suggested the king divide a living baby in two, knowing her own child was dead, simply to spite the rightful mother.

Continuing, he argued that if the aggrieved members were genuine in their pursuit, they would have met with Wike to reconcile with the party following the Appeal Court judgment. Instead, he noted, they proceeded to the Supreme Court despite knowing that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timeline was too tight to accommodate such processes seamlessly.

He was particularly irked by the attitude of Governor Makinde, whom he accused of moving from Ibadan to Lagos in 2019 to disrupt his election as national ex-officio.

“I can assure you, no political party worth its salt, would admit Makinde. You claimed you are working for the PDP but at the same time, you assembled people at Ibadan, claiming that you’re working towards a coalition. Who does that?”

On the future of the PDP given the exodus of several leaders, Doherty claimed the outlook is brightening each day the party secures a legal victory.

The court experience is a bittersweet pill. It brings an end to the so-called factionalisation of members,” he added.

Doherty also referenced comments credited to the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Kabiru Turaki-led NWC, Senator Adolphus Wabara. Wabara reportedly stated that the Supreme Court affirmed the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umar Bature, and Ajibade; however, Doherty dismissed this, suggesting the former Senate President was being “too clever by half.”

“The Supreme Court struck out the appeal; so what’s Senator Wabara talking about? In any case, you have the appellant and defendant. How can you say there is no winner when the apex court nullified their convention in Ibadan?”

“It’s unfortunate that some older people won’t respect themselves. How do you now want young people to respect them? Sen Wabara called a meeting of BoT and he was not there physically.

“Even Chief George, who has made it his rhetoric that ‘the BoT is the conscience’ of the PDP and would take over the running of the party during a crisis, where is that written in our constitution?

“Now, they are jumping out of the party. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi has joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and we learnt Makinde too is on his way out. If they truly believed in the party, they would have joined hands to salvage it.”

PoliticsALGON Endorses President Tinubu For Second Term, Suspends Three LG Chairmen by Deollaa(op): 10:26am On May 04
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections, following resolutions reached at its 54th Expanded National Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

The decision was announced on Sunday after the meeting, which was chaired by ALGON National President Bello Lawal and attended by representatives from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, alongside past leaders of the association.

The motion to endorse the President was moved by former ALGON President Alabi Kolade David and seconded by the Plateau State ALGON chairman, Anani Hamisu Mohammed.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, Mr Mohammed said the endorsement was based on the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which he noted had strengthened fiscal capacity and autonomy at the grassroots level.

“Continuity under Tinubu will deepen grassroots governance,” he stated.

Disciplinary actions

Meanwhile, the association announced the suspension of three local government chairmen over alleged misconduct.

Those affected are Zakari Iliyasu of Niger State, Abubakar Danladi Abdullahi of Kwara State, and Abba Shehu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.

ALGON said the trio were suspended over allegations including impersonation, actions against the association’s interests, and abuse of constitutional provisions.

Warning to stakeholders

The association warned ministries, departments and agencies, as well as state governments and development partners, against engaging with the suspended officials.

Politics2027: Obi, Kwankwaso Join NDC, Demand Litigation-free Politics by Deollaa(op): 10:16am On May 04
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and ex-Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, calling for an end to internal party litigations as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The duo made the declaration on Sunday in Abuja during their official reception into the party, following a closed-door meeting with NDC leadership at the residence of former Bayelsa governor Seriake Dickson in Guzape.

The declaration comes amid recurring leadership crises and legal battles across major opposition parties, which Mr Obi blamed for weakening internal cohesion and distracting from governance issues.

Mr Obi, who recently resigned from the African Democratic Congress, said their move was driven by the need for a stable political platform free from internal crises and court battles.

“First of all, I join in thanking the leader of our party… we are coming here to be part of the peaceful family that will work hard to build a united, secure, prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

Mr Obi added, “We are pleading with the government of today… Please, don’t come here. We want to have peace. We don’t want cases.”

He also urged the judiciary and party members to avoid prolonged legal disputes.

“We don’t want to spend our time in litigation… let’s spend our time dealing with issues affecting the ordinary Nigerian,” he said.

Accusations against government

Mr Obi accused the current administration of fuelling instability within opposition parties.

“The government of today has ensured that they put up crisis upon crisis… which led to several lawsuits in our party,” he said.

He noted that similar challenges followed him across multiple political platforms, forcing repeated exits.

His comments reflect ongoing tensions between opposition figures and the ruling All Progressives Congress, with allegations of political interference becoming a recurring theme in Nigeria’s opposition landscape.

Kwankwaso backs ideological alignment

Mr Kwankwaso said their decision followed consultations with NDC leadership, revealing alignment on key national priorities.

“We realised that we are all on the same page… education, empowerment of young men and women, security, and a very peaceful, united Nigeria,” he said.

He urged supporters, including members of the New Nigeria People’s Party and the Kwankwasiyya movement, to register with the party before the deadline.

“We have decided that all of us will register… and I want all Nigerians… to register with the NDC,” he added.

NDC welcomes new entrants

Welcoming the duo, Mr Dickson described them as major political figures with nationwide appeal.

“Both of you are personifications of the crowd… you are part of the biggest brands in our political history,” he said.

He added that the NDC represents an ideological movement focused on integrity, transparency, and inclusive governance.

Earlier, former Adamawa governorship candidate Aishatu Binani also praised their entry, highlighting their grassroots influence among youths and women.

CelebritiesBREAKING: Carter Efe Beats Portable In Celebrity Boxing Match by Deollaa(op): 9:53am On May 02
Social media comedian Carter Efe has defeated street-hop artiste Habeeb Badmus, popularly known as Portable, in a celebrity boxing showdown to emerge the new champion at the Chaos in the Ring 4 event in Lagos.

The bout, held on Friday night at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, saw Efe dominate all three rounds, earning a unanimous decision victory from the judges, who scored the fight 27-30 in his favour.

The result marks Portable’s first defeat in celebrity boxing, ending his unbeaten run after previous wins against Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington.

Fight highlights

Portable entered the ring with confidence, boasting ahead of the fight that he would claim a third title.

“I will use you to collect my third belt… I will beat you now,” he had declared.

Efe, however, responded with equal confidence: “One punch and you fall.”

In the opening round, Portable came out aggressively, throwing wild punches, but Efe maintained composure, countering effectively with clean uppercuts and body shots.

The second round saw a similar pattern, with Portable’s erratic style failing to break Efe’s rhythm, as the comedian landed more accurate combinations.

Politics‘worst Is Over In Labour Party,’ Says Otti After Convention by Deollaa(op): 11:59am On May 01
The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has declared that the most turbulent phase in the Labour Party is over, insisting there is “no victor, no vanquished” following the party’s just-concluded National Convention.

Governor Otti made the declaration on Thursday in Abuja while observing the maiden inaugural meeting of the party’s newly elected National Working Committee (NWC), which emerged from the 28 April convention held in Umuahia.

The convention produced a new NWC led by Nenadi Usman, marking a major leadership shift after months of internal crisis that threatened to fracture the party.

Speaking after the meeting, the governor expressed optimism about the party’s future, stating, “The worst is over. We can’t see anything worse than what we have seen in the past.”

Call for unity and discipline

The governor urged the new leadership to operate with unity of purpose and avoid actions capable of deepening divisions, stressing the need for coordinated communication.

“The party must speak with one voice through appropriate channels,” he said, adding that leadership must be rooted in service and not personal ambition.

He also commended the National Convention Planning Committee for organising what he described as a peaceful and rancour-free exercise.

Reconciliation in motion

Governor Otti revealed that reconciliation efforts within the party have already begun yielding results, with members of previously opposing factions returning to the fold.

“If you followed the convention, over 25 state chairmen of the former group attended, and some were returned as members of the newly elected NWC,” he disclosed.

He added that the party remains open to further reconciliation, including the possible return of former national chairman Julius Abure.

“In these disagreements, we declared that there were no vanquished and no winners; everybody is a winner… we are now reconciling and reintegrating,” he stated.

2027 elections in sight

The Abia governor affirmed that the party is preparing to fully participate in the 2027 general elections, projecting renewed strength and unity.
