A 31-year-old man, Shamar Elkins, has killed eight children, seven of them his own, in a shooting rampage across multiple locations in Shreveport. Authorities said the incident unfolded on Sunday morning and involved at least three locations, leaving two additional victims critically injured, including the suspect’s wife. Political analyst Dr. Peter Anosike has raised concerns over Nigeria’s democratic trajectory, warning that the build-up to the 2027 general elections is increasingly shaped by alleged state capture, weakening institutions, and rising political impunity. Legal analyst Darlington Agomuo has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission, accusing it of interfering in the leadership affairs of the African Democratic Congress and undermining opposition stability ahead of 2027.
