I have a friend like you, he is Yoruba and he is against the removal of illegal immigrants. His argument is that the US is a nation of immigrants.
I reminded him that the Yorubas came from northern Africa yet many of them feel uncomfortable the moment an Igbo man claims Lagos as his land. Not forgetting that every Igbo man in Lagos is a legal citizen of Nigeria yet some how, he should not claim to be a citizen of Lagos. But Trump is evil when he weeds out illegal immigrants.
Human nature is funny. It's more comfortable to have an opinion when it's far from home.
You failed to finish your tribal analysis. You might need to add that, while in Onitsha, a Yoruba man has the right to claim it as his land of origin, since it is also a Nigerian city.

Thats why he overwhelmingly won again. Trumps victory has affected my finances badly but it’s for the good of the country down the line. No country can survive a $40 trillion trade surplus that the country currently has.
When the midterm elections come in the next two years, then we will know if those that voted for his second coming truly realised what they were voting for when they did. That is if they again voted massively again for the republicans as they did for DT.

But from all indications, seeing the massive protests against him some days ago, they are already regretting it, which includes his DOGE agent, E. Musk.

Elon Musk can no longer hide the flop sweat beading on his forehead as he realizes his cozy bromance with Donald Trump — let’s call it what it is, a “deal with the devil”— is turning out to be one of the worst business decisions of his life.

In what might be the most embarrassing corporate crawling-back, Tesla previously dispatched an unsigned letter to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. The letter was complaining about how Trump’s tariffs on imported goods were wreaking havoc on Tesla’s global supply chain. Tesla’s global sales have nosedived, particularly in Europe, where competitors like Volkswagen are eating its lunch. Its stock price? Free-falling. Since its high of $479.86 in December 2024, Tesla’s shares have lost over 50% of their value, wiping out more than $800 billion in market cap. Yet throughout this economic bloodbath, Musk has been Trump’s hype man.

But even the world’s most committed yes-man has his breaking point. Musk’s facade cracked spectacularly when he launched a broadside against Peter Navarro, Trump’s trade adviser and one of the architects of the “Liberation Day” tariffs. In a post on his beloved X , Musk dismissed the guy as someone who “ain’t built s–t” and even took a swipe at his Harvard PhD, calling it “a bad thing, not a good thing.”
President Trump's trade advisor has belittled Elon Musk, describing him as a 'car salesman' who is criticizing the new tariffs because they impact his business.

Peter Navarro was dismissive of Musk even as he disputed a 'rift' between them - just a day after the world's richest man targeted him on his social media platform, X.

'He's got X. He's got a big microphone. We don't mind him saying whatever he wants, but the American people need to understand that we know what this is all about,' Navarro said dismissively in an interview with Fox News.

'Elon, when he's in his DOGE lane, is great. But we understand what is going on here. Elon sells cars.'

The extraordinary swipe comes after Musk publicly criticized Trump's sweeping new tariffs, which have sparked stock market mayhem and global fears of a recession.

Navarro has been a staunch advocate of the tariffs and was said to be in Trump's ear as he hammered out the details of the new policy.

He's also a loyal supporter of the MAGA movement and served four months in jail for refusing to cooperate with investigations into the January 6 insurrection.

'[Musk is] in Texas assembling cars that have big parts of that car from Mexico, China, Japan... the electronics come from Taiwan,' Navarro pointed out.

victorv12:
To Nigerians praising the recent response, let’s be realistic, the tariff increase will inevitably impact the Nigerian economy. We operate a mono-economy heavily dependent on crude oil as our primary source of revenue.

When it comes to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the truth is we’ve barely activated it in any meaningful way. How often do we actually trade with fellow African countries? Meanwhile, China remains a dominant force, strategically watching and expanding its grip on African trade.

The Trump-era tariffs are going to hit Nigeria hard because we are largely a consuming nation, we produce very little and manufacture even less. The Honorable Minister of Trade is being disingenuous. These tariffs will first impact our exchange rate, which will then drive up the price of fuel at the pump. Secondly, it will cause a surge in the prices of food and general commodities.

Let’s not forget, farming has declined significantly due to insecurity, particularly the menace of Fulani herdsmen. In a country where you need to borrow to survive, bank lending rates are as high as 18.49%.

This is happening in the context of hyperinflation, an unstable power supply, and an economy under serious strain. It's not going to be funny at all.
Doomsayer, let us watch how your economic doom prediction will affect Nigerian consumers who are above 90% poor, and hardly consume imported products.

Yeah, the media may misread it, but the US economy is not misreading it presently. The stock markets across all spheres of economic activities in the country down by almost 6%, which is a great loss.
