Tobi Adegboyega, a UK-based pastor, stated that the societal harms cited by UK's Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch against Nigeria are not exclusive to only the West African country and may be found in the UK. Recall that Adegboyega's church, SPAC Nation, was recently shut down by the British government over claims of mismanagement of £1.87 million. Meanwhile, Badenoch has been disparaging Nigeria, accusing the police of plundering those they pledged to protect. A British journalist asked Badenoch if she trusted the British police. She said, "I do." My encounter with the Nigerian police was unpleasant. When I moved to the UK, I had a favourable encounter with the British police. "The cops in Nigeria will rob us (laughs). When people say I have a poor experience with the police because I am black, I respond, "Well, I remember the police stole my brother's shoe and his watch." The interviewer gasped in disbelief, "They took his shoe and watch?" Kemi said, "It's a really poor country. People do a variety of things. "So, giving somebody a gun is simply a license to intimidate. But that's not the only problem. That is not the bar we should set for the British police. "When I was burgled, for example, the cops were present. They were helpful before they apprehended the person. This occurred in 2004, which was 20 years ago." However, in an interview with Channels TV's 'Politics Today' on Monday, Pastor Adegboyega stated that such harms are not unique to Nigeria. He responded: "I strongly disagree with that assertion. Between 2023 and 2024, almost 78,000 bags and phones were stolen in the UK alone. "There is a large Nigerian black community in this country. "People like the leader of the opposition (party) you named have fought on the streets to get to that position. "There were funerals for children who were killed in the UK. They buried three children from the same parents. "And we wonder since the Nigerian community controls these things in the UK, where are these voices? They've been fighting. "The Windrush, which is about Jamaicans; people have fought for those seats before a black person or black immigrant could take them. "So we can't separate ourselves from where we came from. "We do not dispute that our country has problems, and we are not as old as advanced economies like Britain. But we can't claim everything is gloomy because that's false," Adegboyega argued Badenoch. "We live on the street and know what is happening here. We know that prisons and psychiatric hospitals have more young black individuals than schools in the United Kingdom. "When SPAC Nation began, we started sending people to Harvard and Cambridge, and we also had the highest number at Imperial College," he said. The Presidency has condemned the remarks against Nigeria made by the recently elected UK Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch, as a "c0.ck and bull story." Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom, has stated that she is not a spokesperson for the country. Badenoch's latest statement was in response to remarks made by Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, a few days ago, regarding her alleged lack of respect towards Nigeria, her native country. During a presentation in Abuja on Monday, Vice President Shettima expressed her discontent with Badenoch's portrayal of Nigeria, suggesting that she could remove the Kemi from her name if she was not proud of her Nigerian heritage. ‘Kemi’ is a Yoruba name commonly found in the South-West Nigeria. “She is entitled to her own opinions. She has even every right to remove the Kemi from her name, but that does not underscore the fact that the greatest black nation on earth is the nation called Nigeria,” Shettima said, drawing applause from the audience. In response to VP Shettima's remarks, Badenoch maintained her commitment to her statements, stating that she had no intention of altering them. “I tell the truth. I tell it like it is. I am not going to couch my words. I am the leader of the opposition, and I am very proud of my leadership of the opposition in this country. I am not the PR for Nigeria'' she told reporters on Wednesday, December 11. Source:

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticises the proposition for the North to delay their presidential aspirations till 2031. Just after Senator George Akume's controversial statement and how it shapes the conversation around the 2027 elections, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Atiku, reacted. In a bold opposing move, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has responded to Senator George Akume's controversial commentary on the timing of the North's presidential ambitions. Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, recently suggested the North postpone their presidential contest until 2031. According to him, this proposition allows President Bola Tinubu to complete his potential second term. However, in a heated rebuttal, Atiku, through his media aide, Paul Ibe, stated that Tinubu's performance indicates he does not merit another term. In his words, "God forbid," emphasising his strong opposition. Akume's proposition isn't merely a political suggestion; it raises significant questions about the national balance of power. Atiku highlighted the potential discrepancy between the North and South's years in power come 2027. According to him, the South would have enjoyed 17 years of leadership, while the North would have experienced 11 years. Atiku's stance is an eye-opener to the extent of regional disparities in Nigeria's leadership and a testament to the fact that Nigerians alone should determine their leader in 2027. As discussions continue to heat up, only time will tell the outcomes of these political power plays. WhatsApp Revamps Group Chats with Online Counter With WhatsApp's latest update, which introduces an innovative online counter for group chats, stay ahead of the curve. Discover this exciting new feature that informs you of the active users in your group chats. WhatsApp's Update: Bridging the Gap in Online Connectivity WhatsApp, the world's most popular messaging platform with over 2 billion active users, consistently pioneers innovative features to enhance the user experience. Recently, via version 2.24.25.30 in the Google Play Beta Program, WhatsApp introduced an online counter to group chats. This feature, hitherto only available to a few beta testers, will gradually be rolled out to more users. The online counter, strategically positioned at the top of group chats, displays the number of active members in a group chat at any moment. This replaces the former feature that only indicated whether someone was typing or recording a message. The online counter is a game-changer, particularly in active groups, as it can instantly indicate when most people are online. However, the counter only tallies users without turning off their online status option in their privacy settings. This safeguard ensures user privacy while contributing to the group's interactivity. The Future of WhatsApp Group Chats This update is among several improvements WhatsApp has been rolling out to enhance user engagement and connectivity. From refining the chat list interface to adding a reminder notification feature for unread messages and extending voice chat availability to smaller groups, WhatsApp constantly updates its features to meet evolving user needs. Childhood shapes the foundation of who we are, from our self-esteem to how we connect with others or deal with challenges; early experiences leave a lasting imprint. Unfortunately, not every childhood is filled with joy, stability, or unconditional love. For some, those formative years are marked by pain, uncertainty, or neglect, which, of course, is an unhappy childhood. But how does an unhappy childhood manifest in everyday life? What signs do early life experiences still cast a shadow in adulthood? Suppose you’re a parent, educator, or someone trying to better understand yourself or a loved one. In that case, this comprehensive blog post will shed light on 15 behavioural, emotional, social, and even physical patterns that often point to an unhappy childhood. What Defines an Unhappy Childhood? An unhappy childhood doesn’t always mean outright abuse or neglect; it can take many forms. For some, it’s living in a household where emotions are dismissed or invalidated. For others, it’s growing up in an environment overshadowed by constant conflict, financial instability, or absent caregivers. Emotional neglect, harsh criticism, and unmet emotional needs may also create the conditions for what psychologists deem an unhappy childhood. It’s important to remember that every child processes trauma differently. While one may learn to internalize pain, others may externalize it. Unhappiness isn’t always loud; sometimes, it’s hidden behind silence. Continue read: https://femotech.com.ng/15-signs-you-had-an-unhappy-childhood-how-to-deal-with-it/

Namibia's ruling SWAPO party has been proclaimed the winner of last week's elections, allowing Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to become the country's first female president. The electoral commission declared on Tuesday that Nandi-Ndaitwah received more than 57% of the vote, with the major opposition candidate, Panduleni Itula of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), receiving 25.5%. The victory maintains SWAPO's dominance since Namibia's independence in 1990, although the election has been controversial. The IPC has rejected the results, claiming "multitudes of irregularities." Panduleni Itula, 67, stated on Saturday, November 30, that his party will not recognise the election results. "The IPC shall not recognise the outcome of that election," he declared, vowing to dispute the results through Namibia's electoral systems. The November 27 election had serious logistical and technological challenges, such as a scarcity of ballot sheets and overheating smart tablets used for voter registration. These issues resulted in lengthy delays, with some voters fleeing polling places after up to 12 hours. The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) confessed to organisational shortcomings but said that over 77% of registered voters cast ballots. Observers from a group of southern African human rights lawyers stated the delays were intentional and pervasive. The election comes at a critical time for SWAPO, as other liberation-era parties in the area, including South Africa's African National Congress and Botswana's Democratic Party, are losing popularity. Namibia, a major uranium and diamond exporter, has a youth unemployment rate of 46 percent, about three times the national average. Nandi-Ndaitwah, 72, a veteran SWAPO politician known by her initials NNN, has become one of Africa's few female leaders. She ran on a "economic diplomacy" platform and vowed to generate jobs by courting investment. Nandi-Ndaitwah, identifiable by her gold-framed glasses and frequent appearances in the blue, red, and green colours of SWAPO and the national flag, emphasised her experience and wisdom throughout the campaign. As the conservative daughter of an Anglican minister and a party stalwart, her rise represents a watershed moment for Namibia and a test of SWAPO's capacity to maintain its power in the face of mounting unhappiness among younger voters. Tobi Adegboyega, a Nigerian pastor, has lost his legal struggle against deportation from the UK due to claims of fraud and financial illegality at his renowned church, SPAC Nation. Despite allegations that deportation would violate his human rights, an immigration panel established that he should be deported to Nigeria. Adegboyega, 44, a cousin of Star Wars actor John Boyega, claimed that removing him from the UK would breach his right to family life under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). He mentioned his marriage to a British woman and his community service with SPAC Nation as reasons for staying in the UK. His defense team described him as a "charismatic" leader, emphasizing his efforts to teach hundreds of young people, mainly from London's Black neighborhoods, to steer them away from criminal activity. They claimed his work had been lauded by well-known personalities such as former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and senior Metropolitan Police officials. Still, no testimony from these individuals was given. However, the tribunal observed that the Home Office provided a different narrative. According to the award, "Various manifestations of [Mr Adegboyega's] church have been closed down, by either the Charity Commission or the High Court, because of concerns over its finances and lack of transparency." SPAC Nation was shut down after failing to account for more than £1.87 million in expenses, and there were allegations that the church encouraged members to donate funds in extreme ways. Former members accused the organization of being a cult, stating that impoverished people were pressured to take out loans, conduct welfare fraud, and even sell their blood to support the church. "It is alleged that the church leadership lead lavish lifestyles and there have, it is said, been instances of abuse," according to the verdict. "The [Home Office's] case before us was that all of this needs to be taken into account when evaluating whether [Mr Adegboyega] is in fact of real value to the UK." Adegboyega, who had overstayed a tourist visa issued in 2005, asked for leave to remain in 2019 under the ECHR. His initial application was dismissed, and his second appeal was similarly denied. The panel deemed his evidence "hyperbolic in many instances" and concluded that he had "grossly inflated his influence." The panel concluded: "We are not satisfied that the good work that SPAC Nation undertakes generally would collapse or even significantly suffer should the Appellant be required to leave the UK." It determined that Adegboyega's family and private life relationships were formed while he was in the UK illegally and may continue even after he returned to Nigeria. "The interference would, therefore, be limited and lawful in all the circumstances," claimed the court. This ruling ends Adegboyega's legal campaign to stay in the UK, as he now risks deportation to Nigeria. Football GOAT: Cristiano Ronaldo Has No Natural Talent," says Rodri. Rodri, the Manchester City and Spain midfielder, has recently stirred up the football world with his controversial views. The Ballon d’Or winner, who won the title last month in Paris, has made it clear that he has no doubts about who is football’s ‘Greatest Of All Time’. Rodri, who is still recovering from knee surgery, decided to share his personal opinion in an interview with the Spanish TV channel El Hormiguero. When asked who he considers to be the football's greatest of all time, Rodri strongly affirmed Lionel Messi over Cristiano Ronaldo. The Spaniard was clear about his assessment of Ronaldo’s abilities: Messi is the greatest player ever. He also continued to accuse Ronaldo of having no natural talent, which not everyone agrees with. Questioning the contrast between Messi and Ronaldo on the strength of having played with the two, Rodri stated that Messi was a constant threat on the pitch. He noted that, although they kept Ronaldo out of the box because of his deadly goalscoring prowess, Messi was dangerous at any spot on the pitch. Rodri’s comments have spurred heated controversy among football fans who see his statement as disrespectful of Ronaldo’s natural talent. Social Media Critic VeryDarkMan Calls EFCC Chairman Incompetent In a recent turn of events, social media critic Martins Ortse, famously known as VeryDarkMan, publicly criticised Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). VeryDarkMan lambasted the Chairman, calling him "incompetent." VeryDarkMan expressed his disapproval of Olukoyede due to his inability to apprehend the former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, despite having declared him wanted since April. The EFCC has accused Bello of alleged money laundering to the tune of N80.2 billion during his tenure as governor. Despite being on the EFCC's wanted list, Bello willingly presented himself to the anti-graft agency but was surprisingly released. This, VeryDarkMan pointed out, is an indication of Olukoyede's incompetence. VeryDarkMan made his discontent known through an Instagram post where he referred to Olukoyede as "a symbol of incompetence and mediocrity." He asked why the EFCC had managed to prosecute more than 100 other individuals, with their combined alleged theft not even amounting to N120 million, yet they failed to handle Bello's case. VeryDarkMan went ahead and criticised the operations of the EFCC, accusing them of focusing on arresting young men while overlooking the major fraudsters. This, he suggested, is a reason for the agency's existence to be questioned. Fela Durotoye, the famous Nigerian motivational speaker, recently explained what exactly his six-month stint under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration was about. Durotoye became Senior Special Assistant on National Values and Social Justice in October 2023, a post he held until March 2024. Although serving a crucial role, Durotoye received no salary or allowance and volunteered to work for nothing. The announcement is accompanied by intense public discussion on the President’s recent media appointments, most recently the recent appointment of Daniel Bwala as Special Adviser for Public Communications and Media. Durotoye also went on to say publicly that his time with the administration involved no media obligations. Durotoye writes in an op-ed piece that he refused to accept any compensation as a government employee during his tenure as a government official out of loyalty to the nation. Durotoye and his family all personally paid for the costs of living in an apartment and fares to Abuja. He continued to insist that he never asked the government for payment for anything he spent while in office. Durotoye’s sincere explanation aims to debunk the rumours and generalities that are flying around in the popular discourse about the President’s media entourage. Read his full statement below: Durotoye said: “Like many other issues in the public discourse, social commentary often has the tendency to overgeneralise, and broad assumptions may sometimes lead to errors of misconceptions, misstatements, and misinformation. “One of such errors is in a recent case study that went viral on social media regarding the current media team of the president, where my name was listed as one of the president’s media aides. Unfortunately, this statement needs to be updated to accurately reflect the current media team of the president. “For clarity, I served briefly in the role of Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Values and Social Justice (SSA-NVSJ) for a tenure of six months, from October 2023 to March 2024. “When I was invited to serve in this administration, I expressed, as a condition for accepting the call, my desire to NOT receive a salary from the government, as I considered this to be my service to my nation. “When I finally accepted the role in October 2023, it was on the condition that I would not receive any salary or allowances. During my six-month tenure, I did not accept any government funds for my service, expenses, or upkeep. “I rented my apartment and took my personal car to Abuja. My utility cost, fuel cost and upkeep were all borne by me and I never requested a reimbursement from the government for any expenses I incurred. "Lekan Salami Claims MC Oluomo Is No Longer a Valid NURTW Member, Urges Tinubu to Take Action" In a recent development, Olalekan Folorunsho, better known as Lekan Salami, the Southwest Zonal Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has called on President Bola Tinubu to take steps to rectify the behaviour of Musiliu Akinsanya, more commonly known as MC Oluomo. According to reports, MC Oluomo has been named as the NURTW President by a specific group despite having left the union years ago. Questions regarding Oluomo’s election have arisen following an event in Osogbo, Osun State, that has since been deemed void by the Appeal Court. On November 8th, the court supported a ruling by the National Industrial Court from March 11, 2024, which confirmed Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa’s place as the rightful National President of the NURTW. In a public statement, Lekan Salami expressed his concern about the internal conflicts within the union, emphatically stating that MC Oluomo was no longer a recognised member of the NURTW. It’s worth noting that Oluomo had officially left the union in 2022 and had discarded his NURTW identity card. Salami raised queries about MC Oluomo’s legitimacy and stated that the NURTW has no records of MC Oluomo returning to the union. The union’s constitution outlines a formal procedure for members wishing to return, which includes sending a written request to the national leadership and serving for at least two years before aspiring for any higher positions—steps Oluomo has not taken. This issue has also brought about allegations against Alhaji Moshood Ajao, a former NURTW secretary, with claims of leadership in Osun State. Salami clarified that the union’s constitution only acknowledges former state chairmen as leaders, warning Ajao to refrain from impersonating a union leader. Salami also pronounced the Osogbo election as illegitimate, mentioning that three key southwestern states, Osun, Oyo, and Lagos, were not represented, and factional struggles in Ogun State further marred the procedure. He made allegations against Chief Omotayo Falope (Oloforo) and Mustapha Ismail (Yaro Ade), the Ogun State factional chairman, of betraying the union by supporting MC Oluomo. Lekan Salami has subsequently urged the Federal Government to take action against MC Oluomo in order to uphold the rule of law and the sanctity of the judiciary. He also reiterated the union’s support for Baruwa’s leadership, citing the Appeal Court’s recent decision as a clear mandate for stability and continuity within the NURTW. Labour Urges Tinubu: Tackle Naira Devaluation, Rising Energy Costs and Fuel Prices Labour union representatives are urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to revisit policies related to currency devaluation and escalating energy prices to alleviate the financial strain on Nigerians and businesses alike. The appeal took place in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the 6th Quadrennial and 13th National Delegates Conference of the National Union of Shop and Distributive Employees (NUSDE). Amid the conference, NUSDE's President, Aminu Megbontowon, expressed concern about the formidable challenges stemming from the existing economic strategies. He stated that the exorbitant energy prices have serious implications on production, services, and workers' welfare. Megbontowon expressed concern over the skyrocketing prices of petroleum products, now exceeding N1,000 per liter, and escalating electricity tariffs, rising from N68 to N227. He stressed that these costs are unfeasible, especially for an oil-rich country like Nigeria, where citizens' purchasing power remains critically low. He further warned of the rising costs of production and living conditions pushing more Nigerians to poverty, triggering widespread unemployment and the collapse of several enterprises. He noted that many factories were unable to sell their products, which led to job losses and shutdowns, directly affecting union members. Megbontowon called for immediate government action, suggesting reversing deregulation policies and reducing energy costs. He also called on the President to halt the devaluation and floating of the Naira, which has rendered imported goods and raw materials unaffordable. He argued that the Nigerian economy requires cheaper energy, single-digit interest rates, and fundamental infrastructure to bolster production and service sectors. Megbontowon also encouraged the government to implement a bold industrialization strategy to stimulate economic growth. Additional demands included significant slashes in electricity and fuel prices, affordable lending rates, and considerable infrastructure investment in roads, refineries, schools, and hospitals to enhance economic productivity and better the living conditions of Nigerians. The Labour Union cautioned that failing to address these urgent concerns could lead to further economic decline and increased hardship throughout the country. Phyno, a renowned Nigerian musician, narrated why he decided to switch from rapping in English to using the Igbo language in his songs. In a recent episode of the ‘In My Opinion’ podcast, Phyno, whose real name is Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, shared some insight into his artistic journey. In the early phases of his career, he said, English was his language of choice for rapping. However, he later switched gears and started delivering his raps in Igbo. Phyno wanted to present something distinctive that set him apart from others, especially in the Western music scene. Influenced significantly by his upbringing, the Igbo language seemed the perfect fit for his unique proposition. Phyno's interest in music has been greatly shaped by Western legends such as Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, 2Pacs, and Biggie, among others. He acknowledged that their influence did contribute to his initial preference for rapping in English. However, in time, Phyno realised a key aspect of his artistic persona. He was determined to present something to the world that was undoubtedly his, something unique. "What am I going to sell to the world? If I go to the UK, will I sell English to them? They own the English language.' If I go to America right now, I am selling Igbo to them. That’s what it is. So you have to sell something that they don’t have," he explained. Phyno also reflects his cultural pride through his attire, increasingly opting for traditional Igbo clothes to express his roots vividly. He insisted on representing the uniqueness of his culture through his music and style, making him stand out in the crowd. He singles out a recent award he received from actress Eniola Ajao for the cause of his recent troubles. Previously, Bobrisky faced intense criticism after gaining the title of 'Best Dressed Female' during Eniola Ajao's film debut a few months ago. Nollywood actress Toke Makinwa has shared her wish to remarry. The 40-year-old expressed that marriage is among the most beautiful institutions, even with its challenges. In a recent podcast interview, she conversed with British-Nigerian media personality Madame Joyce. She said, “People always think I hate men or a feminist who bashes men. I have been married before, and marriage is one of the most beautiful institutions. “I see marriage like the relationship between siblings. If your siblings come to visit, the first couple of days are exciting. You guys wear matching pyjamas, sleep in the same bed, and catch up on all the lost years or lost moments. By the third day, it’s like, ‘Close my f*cking door. Who wore my shoes? Where are my earrings? When are you going back to your house? Please, I am tired.’ And that was how I saw it. “There were days when I would rush home to tell my ex-husband everything I had been through. And there were days when I woke up in the morning, I said, ‘God, you must hate me for me to marry this idiot. This is not life; this must be hell.’ That was how I saw it. And it didn’t work out many years ago. But I still fancy the institution. I do want to get married again. “It hasn’t happened yet. I’m not ruling it out. I am just taking my time. Maybe it’s not God’s time yet. Whenever he is ready, I just hope I am not wrinkled [laughs].” Toke Makinwa had been once married to entrepreneur Maje Ayida. They tied the knot in 2014, but their union came to an end in 2017. Recently, reports emerged that she has married her rumoured long-time partner, Farouk Umar. However, the actress quickly dismissed the rumours, stating that they were merely “besties” and that the supposed wedding ceremony was actually her thanksgiving event. Kazim Adeoti, a Nollywood movie marketer, has addressed criticism around his marriage to actress Mercy Aigbe. Mercy revealed Adeoti as her spouse in January 2022, prompting Funsho Adeoti, the filmmaker's first wife, to accuse Mercy of kidnapping her husband. However, Kazim justified his decision to marry a second wife by claiming his Muslim beliefs. Speaking about the controversies surrounding his marriage, Kazim told journalists at the National Film and Video Censors Board's (NFVCB) 4th Peace Ayiam Osigwe (PAO) Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference on Thursday in Lagos that as a public figure, he cannot control others' opinions or narratives about it. Kazim also stated that he remains focused on his work, feeling that the objective justifies the means. He said, “When you find yourself in the public domain, you cannot really control a whole lot of opinions or narratives. What is most important is for you to be focused,, and at the end of the day, the end justifies the means.” Kazim also emphasised the issues confronting the Yoruba film industry, emphasising money as a major impediment. According to the film producer, collaboration and appropriate finance are critical for making high-quality films with innovative storylines and great actors. He added, “I think it is more of a collaboration issue because we have what it takes to shoot good movies. When it comes to the storyline, the originality, telling our real stories and fantastic actors, we have it all. “But in most cases, what we are lacking is the funding and that is what limits our bringing those stories into reality. This is because we know if we do it this way, this is how it should be done but when we do not have the adequate funding, it limits the job.” Source: https://femotech.com.ng/i-can-not-control-the-opinion-of-others-about-my-marriage-to-mercy-aigbe-kazim-adeoti/
