27% Of Nigerian Men Are Not The Biological Fathers Of Their Children, With Yoruba Topping- Reports Says

A shocking report recently released by Smart DNA reveals that 27% of Nigerian men are not the biological fathers of their children. This alarming statistic emerged from paternity tests conducted from July 2023 to June 2024. In essence, this suggests that over one in four Nigerian men who undergo paternity tests discover they are not the biological fathers of the children they believe to be theirs.

Interestingly, the report also pointed out a striking rise in DNA testing for immigration purposes, probably driven by the increasing number of Nigerians seeking opportunities overseas. This trend also highlights a growing inclination among parents with dual citizenship to facilitate their children's emigration.

Geographically, Lagos led the pack regarding the number of DNA tests conducted, reflecting economic disparity within the country. An astounding 73.1% of all DNA tests were done in Lagos, split between 67.5% on the mainland and 32.5% on the island.

Regarding ethnicity, the Yoruba ethnic group topped the list, accounting for 53% of the tests, followed by the Igbo at 31.3%, with the Hausa contributing a marginal 1.20%.

The statistics also showed that most children tested were between 0 and 5 years old (54.0%), indicating a preference for early paternity confirmation. Men aged 41 and above (45.6%) and those between 31-40 years (37.0%) were most likely to request tests, which could suggest economic capabilities or increased paternity concerns among older men.

Furthermore, the data revealed a slight gender bias in child testing, with more tests conducted on male children (52.8%) than female children (47.2%). This possibly suggests a cultural preference for confirming the paternity of male offspring.

The report's revelations shed light on the shifting dynamics of Nigerian families and society and call for further discussion and research.

Woman Who Threatened To Poison Yoruba, Igbo On TikTok Finally Arrested By Canadian Police

Canadian law enforcement has apprehended a lady suspected of making discriminatory online threats against specific individuals within Nigeria's overseas community.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) reported the case to Canadian authorities, who are currently probing the possible hate-fueled offense.

As per law enforcement accounts, the suspect started posting the contentious online content around August 25. On August 28, the police were alerted about this threatening activity and swiftly initiated a detailed investigation.

Amaka Sonnberger, 46, was taken into custody by police on September 1, 2024, tied to the online threats she allegedly made.

Sonnberger is facing charges of making threats, a grave violation of Canadian law. She is slated to present herself in a Toronto courtroom on Monday to confront the charges against her.

The Toronto Police Service has corroborated that this case is considered a possible hate crime.


Sonnberger could experience significant legal repercussions if found guilty of the charges.

In a horrifying case of domestic violence, an aluminium worker named Lawrence Uzor stands accused of assaulting his wife in an alleged ritual act, leaving her in a grizzly state. This shocking incident occurred at the Adiele Estate in Umueze Ibeku, Abia State.

Lawrence, a local from Umuchieze in Bende Local Government Area, reportedly used a knife to gouge his wife's eyes out while she was asleep. Additionally, he assaulted his landlady, Madam Lovejane Nwaiwu, knocking out several of her teeth and slicing off her upper lip.

Narrating her ordeal, Madam Nwaiwu said she heard noises from the couple's apartment and went to check. She was met with a horrifying sight of the husband pinning down his wife with a knife in hand. In her attempts to alert the neighbours, she was attacked by Lawrence, leaving her severely injured.

Abia State's First Lady, Mrs Priscilla Otti, upon learning about the incident, expressed deep sadness, particularly as this comes shortly after signing an agreement with the UNFPA concerning gender-based violence. She committed to taking immediate action for the victim's well-being and protection and assured the state government would tackle such cases head-on.

The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, Prof. Azubuike Onyebuchi, represented by his Director of Medical Services, Mrs Aisha Onyemaobi, confirmed that the victim was in recovery and the suspect was in police custody.

Meanwhile, the victim's relatives, Ijeoma Okpokiri and Chioma Okpokiri, have appealed to the Inspector General of Police and Government at various levels, including the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to intervene in the matter and assist their sister in her recovery.

Gunmen opened fire at a rock concert in a Moscow suburb Friday, killing at least 40 people, wounding 100, and setting off an inferno in the theatre, authorities said.

Attackers dressed in camouflage uniforms entered the building, opened fire, and threw a grenade or incendiary bomb, according to a journalist for the RIA Novosti news agency at the scene.

Fire quickly spread through the Crocus City concert hall in the Krasnogorsk suburb in the north of the Russian capital, which can hold several thousand people and has hosted top international artists.

“According to preliminary information, 40 people were killed and more than 100 were injured as a result of a terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall,” according to the FSB security service, quoted by Interfax news agency and other Russian media.

Authorities said a “terrorist” investigation had been started, and President Vladimir Putin was receiving “constant” updates on the attack, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russian news agencies.

Telegram news channels Baza and Mash, which are close to security forces, showed video images of flames and black smoke pouring from the hall.

Other images showed two men walking through the hall with at least one person left on the ground near the entrance. Concert-goers were also seen hiding behind seats or trying to escape.

Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said there had been a “terrible tragedy” at the concert by Russian rock band Piknik and cancelled all public events in the city for the weekend.

Security services quoted by Interfax news agency said between two and five people “wearing tactical uniforms and carrying automatic weapons” opened fire on guards at the entrance and then started shooting at the audience.

Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has passed away at 81.

Following his acceptance of the Staff of Office by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on March 11, 2022, Oba Balogun ruled over his ancestors for two years.

Sulaimon Olanrewaju, his chief press secretary, confirmed Oba Balogun’s passing on Thursday night at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, according to a statement released by Makinde on Thursday.

The governor compared the late monarch to a tall Iroko tree.

“With complete surrender to the will of God, I proclaim our father, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, coming to glory,” the writer said.

Alhaji Sanni Omolorim, the monarch from 1957 to 1997, was the one who preceded him in office.

Born in 1929 February 7, Ado Ibrahim completed his elementary education in 1940 at the Native Authority (NA) primary school in Okene, Northern Region (now Kogi State). He also attended Quranic and Western nursery schools.

In 1949, he graduated from Oduduwa College after starting his secondary studies at Ondo Boys High School.

Having graduated from the London School of Economics in 1954, he went on to Harvard Business School in 1959 to get a master’s degree in management.

He was born on September 4th, 1964, in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Egbetokun came onboard the Nigeria Police Force on March 3rd, 1990, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

He was appointed Chief Security Officer to the Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu in 1999.

He served as the Commander, Rapid Response Squad, Lagos, Squadron Commander, Mopol 5, Benin, Benin City, Officer-in-Charge, Anti-Fraud Unit, FCT Command, Abuja; Chief Superintendent of Police, Administration, Lagos State Command Head Quarters, Ikeja; Area Commander, Osogbo, Osun State Command; and Area Commander, Gusau, Zamfara State Command, among others.

Egbetokun graduated from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in June 1987; and lectured Mathematics briefly at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, before his enlistment into the Police Force.

His other academic qualifications include an MSC in Engineering Analysis, also from the University of Lagos, Akoka, 1996; a Post-Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, Abraka, 2000; and an MBA from Lagos State University, Ojo, 2004.

Bishop David Ibiyeomie, the presiding pastor of Salvation Ministries headquartered in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, recently gave a sermon in which he expressed concerns about the leadership of any country where a drug baron and a terrorist leader were serving as president and vice president.

Ibiyeomie drew a comparison between such a leadership combination and Pablo Escobar and Osama bin Laden, who were notorious Colombian drug traffickers and terrorist leaders, respectively. Ibiyeomie expressed disgust at a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) who defended a drug baron on national television, saying that such a person’s SANship should be turned to dis-SAN.

A Chinese father has experienced his deepest regrets after the son he tutored daiky for 1 year scored 6 out of 100 in a mathematics examination.

The parents who hails from Zhengzhou got the result of their son where he scored 6 on June 23.

EFCC warns Landlords to stop renting their apartments to any internet fraudsters, “Yahoo Boys”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) is on verge of prosecuting Landlords who rent out apartments to internet fraudsters popularly known as “Yahoo Boys”.

“Any homeowners found guilty of renting out apartments to any Yahoo Boy will 15 years behind bars” the commission said.

Ogun Police threatens to declare zazu crooner, Portable wanted over assault

Zazu crooner Portable has been ordered by the Abeokuta Police Command to report with immediate effect else he will be arrested

The Ogun State Police Command has requested for immediate appearance of popular hip hop artists, Hakeem Okikiola a.k.a Portable at the the Station over an alleged assault on a young man or risk arrest.
FMT Blog gathered that Mr Zeh ordered some group of people to beat up the young man at an unknown location in Ogun State, where the victim sustained injuries all over his body.

The Police described the act as “barbaric.”
