Another group has condemned the ultimatum by the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum to Igbos in the North. The Niger Delta Self-Determination Movement made its position known in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. TVC News correspondent, Uche Okoro reports that the Niger Delta Self Determination Movement, led by a social activist, Annkio Briggs believes the indigenous people of Biafra should be given a listening ear. Okoro reports that the group described the belief that Northern states are the biggest beneficiaries of resources from the south, as being largely responsible for the frosty relationship between some sections of the north and southeast. It is for this reason that the group is worried that the quit notice handed down to Igbo’s residing and doing business in the north may deepen this feeling of disharmony. The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, have described the June 12, 1993 elections as a part of Nigeria’s history that could not be forgotten. This is just as the Lagos and Ekiti state governments on Sunday joined Oyo, Ondo, Ogun and Osun states to declare June 12 a public holiday. Tinubu, in statement on Sunday to celebrate the 24th anniversary of June 12, said that without “the uncompromising resistance to military rule engendered by the annulment of the June 12 election, there would most probably be no 4th Republic today and we would still be groaning under military dictatorship.” Tinubu described the late Abiola, the winner of the election, as an embodiment of “the eternal Yoruba adage, which says that death is better with honour than life without dignity.” Read More: http://nigeria.tvcnews.tv/2017/06/12/june-12-a-history-we-cant-forget-atiku-tinubu/ |

Hackers can hide computer viruses in online video subtitles and use them to take control of computers, security experts have warned. The attacks are embedded within the subtitle files that accompany many illegally downloaded films, and easily bypass security software and antivirus programs designed to keep computers safe. Check Point, the security group that discovered the flaw, said millions of people who use video software including to stream or play films and TV shows on computers could be at risk. They warned that the attack lets hackers take “complete control” over any type of device using the software, including smart TVs. It identified four programs – VLC, Kodi, Popcorn Time and Stremio – but said there could be more. “We estimate there are approximately 200 million video players and streamers that currently run the vulnerable software, making this one of the most widespread, easily accessed and zero-resistance vulnerabilities reported in recent years,” they said. Many videos do not come with their own subtitles, but computer media players often automatically download special files from a central online repository. Because they are perceived as harmless text files and use a variety of different formats, the software does not check them for viruses. However, Check Point showed it was possible to include debilitating computer viruses within the files that are activated as soon as subtitles are switched on. They were also able to manipulate the rankings on opensubtitles.org, the popular online database, so that video software would automatically download the virus-filled files. Have you ever been told that you can’t achieve a dream just because you are a girl? Most Nigerian girls are used to hearing statements like: “That is not a job for a girl”, “Why don’t you just think like a girl!” These words find a way of limiting most girls, keeping them from aspiring into exciting and high-profile professions. It is therefore not unexpected that 2 out of 5 Nigerian girls think that there are some jobs designed for girls and some for boys. They also soon begin to build aspirations based on these popular opinions held by the society. The new #MyFutureStartsToday video from Always, the leader in global feminine care is a good conversation starter which aims to urge that girls and women should be empowered to live their life to their fullest potential. Click here to watch the new video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXh2yFRSp4c You too can join the Always #MyFutureStartsToday initiative by tweeting about it using the hashtag #FutureStartsNow or encouraging school girls between the ages of 11 – 16 to write an essay on “My Future Starts Today: My Dream Career” which is to understand what is stopping them from achieving your dream?” Find out more at: www.facebook.com/alwaysnigeria.

With Backing From Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and GV (formerly Google Ventures), Andela Will Empower Africa's Next Generation Of Great Technical Leaders LAGOS, Nigeria, June 16, 2016 — Andela, a company that identifies the most talented software engineers and problem solvers in Africa and prepares them for successful careers with top global tech companies, is today announcing $24M in Series B funding to catalyze its growth across the African continent. Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan’s Chan Zuckerberg Initiative led the round, with participation from new investor GV (formerly Google Ventures) and existing investors Spark Capital, Omidyar Network, Learn Capital, and South Africa-based CRE Ventures, among others. For Andela, the investment represents an international seal of approval from the most respected and innovative minds in the global tech ecosystem, and a validation of the caliber of Nigerian technical talent. Through its four-year technical leadership program, Andela provides a pathway for talented Nigerian programmers into the global tech economy. "We live in a world where talent is evenly distributed, but opportunity is not. Andela's mission is to close that gap," says Mark Zuckerberg. "Companies get access to great developers, and developers in Africa get the opportunity to use their skills and support their communities. Priscilla and I believe in supporting innovative models of learning wherever they are around the world -- and what Andela is doing is pretty amazing." Since Andela launched in 2014, it has received over 40,000 applications and accepted only the top 0.7%. The program begins with an intensive skills ramp-up, during which developers complete open-source projects and specialize in a specific tech stack. Then, they’re placed as full-time software engineers with Andela’s partners, which range from venture-backed startups in Silicon Valley and New York to global industry leaders including IBM and Microsoft. “Andela’s mission statement to develop hundreds of thousands of world-class software developers in Nigeria and across Africa is very compelling”, says Seni Sulyman, Director of Operations. “The ambition is so bold, and the energy it creates is so incredible, that I couldn’t imagine walking away from the challenge. I fully expect alumni of Andela to be launching the companies that will lead the technical revolution across Africa.” Sulyman joined Andela in May after completing his MBA at Harvard Business School and returning to Nigeria to build and launch a new private B2B airline. Sulyman was born and raised in Nigeria, and had begun his career in the US and Canada before surrendering to a growing desire to make an impact at home. Sulyman encourages fellow Africans, both at home and abroad, to join the Andela movement and help write the future of the digital revolution in Lagos, Nairobi, and cities across Africa. Over the past two years, Andela developers have played a major role in building and supporting technology communities in both Lagos and Nairobi, participating in hackathons, hosting meet-ups, and forming local developer groups. The latest financing will bolster the company’s ability to seek and spread extraordinary technical talent across the continent, as it plans to announce a third African country before the end of the year, as well as power efforts to attract the most talented team in engineering and management. About Andela: Andela identifies high-potential software engineers on the African continent, shapes them into world-class technical leaders, and places them with top technology companies worldwide as full-time, distributed team members. Current company partners range from venture-backed startups to industry leaders including Microsoft and IBM. With headquarters in Lagos, Nairobi and NYC, Andela is building the next generation of global technology leaders. About Chan Zuckerberg Initiative: Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) was launched by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan to advance human potential and promote equality. In support of this mission, CZI funds nonprofit organizations, makes private investments and participates in policy debates, with the goal of making the world a better place for future generations.

In an exclusive Chat with Wale Fakile, Here is what the TV Presenter has to say concerning the allegation: MY VERSION OF THE STORY I have read all the tirades and accusations levelled against me by Mandy Isaac on Social Media and for posterity and records purposes, I need to state my side of the story. Yes, it is true that we are friends but we stopped dating in June 2015. However, we started again in December 2015. Our last date was on Wednesday, May 16th, 2016 in my residence and in spite of Mandy telling me that she had stopped drinking, she requested for alcohol which I did not oblige her. However, I later found out that she had drank 2 cans of Vodka (picture below). I went out to withdraw some money and she stepped out too, after having taking possession of my phone. When I returned, she got back and accused me of talking to ladies and insisted she had to leave that night. I pleaded with her but she said she would leave and I gave her N2,000 as Transport fare. In her semi-nude state, she flared up, demanded for N50,000 and called me unprintable names. Later, she went berserk and started destroying things in my house (See pictures below) before she started rolling herself on the floor. I got a call the same night from a female police officer at ketu Police Station (I was NEVER ARRESTED) who asked that I report at the station that night or the following morning. I could not go to the police station that night because it was already late (some minutes past 11:00pm) but I made sure that I got to the station as early as possible (8:00am). To my surprise she never showed up even after my call at the station. It is unfortunate that this happened to me but I am not only a responsible man but I also work in a responsible organisation that values and cherishes its publics. This is a deliberate attempt to frame me and I call on investigative Journalists to go deeper than the story and either vilify me or corroborate my claims.

I do not know Nairaland as become a platform where ladies how try to blackmail their boyfriends for reasons best known to them. My question is, what is she trying to achieve with this post? If you were beaten by your boyfriend, the best way ti handle it is to report to the proper authorities and get him arrested. There are agencies in Nigeria and even Lagos state has an office for this crime. This is the best way to handle this. It is clear that something is fishy here hence why she brought it to Nairaland. Unfortunately, she didn't give us her name but she was able to put up the guys picture knowing that people will know him. This is not fair and i think ladies should try and handle issues with their man fairly. Because you know he is a media personality and seen everyday you feel you can destroy a young man's career. If he actually did this, then he should be arrested and let him face the law. Trying to blackmail a young man with all these isn't the right way to go. This story is on other blogs also and sources told me that she story was sponsored. Is this true? Let us be fair in our dealing please. If a young man assaulted you this way, please get him arrested and let us see if its true or false. Stop blackmailing a young man because you know he is on TV and you can damage his reputation. For me, i do not believe this story. Please what is the lady's name? |
