joyousf:
happy Sunday to u. pls how does one recognise the good ori/Shea butter oil. the last one I used was white in color. the recent one is yellowish. didn't notice the diff til I got home. does the color matter?

secondly, I read here that ori n coconut oil are good for baby's skin. my Lo is big n also sweats a lot n using any of those seem to make him sweat more n sometimes encourages aleefo or small rashes with tiny white dots which I think is caused by heat. so most times I use powder. yet his skin could look so dry with using just powder and no cream. what can I do pls?

lastly I know alefo leaves some scars that should disappear with time but some scars on his chest n back av refused to go. they are just there lighter than his skin tone. is there anything I can use to even up the tone. it doesn't look like eczema to me but I don't mind treating him for that just in case...so wat do I apply.
My son is also a big baby with folds all over, you need to keep doing what you are already doing and bath him more whenever he sweats. I shower my LO at least 3 times a day,use natural black soap, light oils and talc.

Mytestimony, my baby sucks too. Mamas here advisd me to use mittens, bt imidiately I remove it, the hand is bak 2d mouth, nia I rest jare. Read d link it will help a bit. http://www.mamalette.com/featured/this-is-why-some-toddlers-have-a-thumb-sucking-habit/
Why not try a pacifier and stop it when your LO's teeth starts coming in. Thumb sucking is very addictive and hard to stop. I have a friend in her 20's that still sucks her thumb to sleep.

Hello Desiree , how far with ur tummy, is d result permanent? Mine isn't. Maybe its cos I wasn't lucky with a good cincher, all d three I got were rubbish. Any idea where I cn get a gud one?
TIA
My results are permanent. I wear it all day and to bed also.... I only take it off for a couple of minutes to give myself a break. I got mine from a friend but there are lots of sellers on IG, you should ask other members for reviews before you buy. To be honest, I follow a strictly low carb diet and I don't drink juice or sodas.

It's fine if you want to give water but I didn't give water to my LOs and they never constipated. Their system worked fine with the formula I bought and I also adhered to the measurements religiously.

There so much a baby's tummy can take, if water fills up that space, where will the formula stay?

But like I said above, it's a controversial issue but talking from experience, I didn't give water until 6 months and my LOs never constipated.
Abeg I share your sentiments jare.....my first was exclusively formula fed from 2 weeks and my pediatrician said no water until he starts semi solid food. He was never constipated. Formula is made with water too and I have heard horror stories of water diluting babies blood causing convulsion. I think it is a 9ja thing though....becos my sister tried many times to make me give my LO water. I could bearly get him to drink enough formula.

Whatever stand you take on this issue,it is always good to seek your pediatrician's advice.

Thanks desiree. Would be dropping my LO wit my bro-inlaw`s wife who stays down my street. I have started expressing but am not getting enough supply or is it because am using hands as I heard that wit pump am likely to get more supply esp if I use electric pump and am going to be working from 9am til 4pm so I rily need to av enof breastmilk down for LO
You need a breastpump, at least a manual one considering when there is no electricity and you want to pump. Storing when there is no light is another thing you will have to think about...you will have to pump enough for 5 feeds btw 9am-4pm. I know some people use ice coolers to store.

Will your LO be going to a creche? Just make sure you express a lot at night and store( refrigerate)properly otherwise your supply will be affected. I'm going to be doing the same thing.

Ok. Thanks ma. Besides please can I go on multivitamin while breast feeding,my weight is encouraging and I lacks appetite as well. Thinking of helping myself with multivitamin but afraid it might affect my baby too. Pls advice
Doctors always recommend that nursing mothers take multivitamin. It will only benefit your LO.

nice one mummii, i like ur style of conditioning. pls how do u use it? i.e the misture n d applying process.
I don't have exact measurement for the olive oil o . Two egg yolks and I pour in a little olive oil.I rub the mixture into my LO's hair(unwashed hair)wait 20 min and take him for a bath. Wash off thoroughly. My LO is a boy but I want to keep his afro hair soft and bouncy. I also do the same for my own hair...it works wonders.

Pls buy baby tribotan, works like magic (stay away from funbactA, adult tribotan, skineal, ABF, they contain strong steroid).
Also buy savlon (nt dettol nor purit o) and mix in his bath water, try make it concentrated till d elaa resolves, dn u cn reduce d quantity u use to suit u.
Ds worked for me when my baby had elaa n alefo
To further buttress your point against the use of steroids on our LOs. Anything you put on your baby's skin gets absorbed into their blood stream and steroid severely affects the hormones and immune system. No doctor will recommend it unless it is absolutely necessary and only for a couple of days.

Lets seek natural remedies for skin infections and inflammations. Things like eela and alefo can be treated with natural black soap, shea butter, sweet almond oil and coconut oil which has anti inflammatory and anti bacterial properties.

When my son developed craddle's cap, olive oil was what cured it, I wash him head to toe with black soap and soak his hair with olive oil. Forget all those fancy schmancy Mustela and Burt's and Bee. I don't want too much chemicals on his delicate head( which caused it in the first place). I condition once week with egg yolk and olive oil.

One more thing pls, hw long before you noticed a difference?
I started wearing mine 3 days postpartum and by the 5th week my tummy was almost flat. You have to be committed to wearing it day and night that was why I adviced to get something that is comfortable and won't give you a sore skin.

Get a waist cincher instead. Postpartum belts are not that effective and a lace up corset is tedious and uncomfortable, from my experience.

If its oral thrush, d white patches will be all over inside d mouth and not just on d tongue. It wud be in d upeer and lower gums and also inside d cheek and no matter how u clean it won't go away unlike milk residue dat goes away wit cleaning. U can use nystatin oral suspension if its thrush. My son had thrush wen he was 2wks and dats wat d paed prescribed and it cleared it.
Thanks....the white coating is just on his tongue and the roof of his mouth, cleaning it does not make it disappear. I have stopped giving him gripe water and I notice an improvement. I will observe it for another week before doing anything else.

Get a second opinion, I had antibiotic Iv too during labor...doesn't matter, and If miconazole isn't clearing it and the baby isn't in any discomfort as you have mentioned the prob of it being thrush is very very very very low

Did you give your baby gripe water? Gripe water gave my baby hairy tongue which I thought was oral thrush too at the time
Ah!! I give my son gripe water daily. Its probably not oral thrush then. I will book another doctors appointment and see what they say.

What a relief.... thanks ever so much.

are you sure its not milk residue, use the baby's wash cloth to clean his tongue and see if its better
Thanks for your response.

I always clean his tongue with q-tips and a saline solution but it doesn't look any better. I'm pretty sure its not milk residue. The doctor told me it was oral thrush resulting from the antibiotic IV I got during labour.

@mamas please help o,I don't know if I shud register for antenatal asap or I shud just wait till 12weeks,ds s my third preg(had 2MCs alredi) although v started taking d fersolate and folic acid...n please ani1 dat has had a mc shudd please advise a sis,cus m rili scared and worried and I hope it won't affect d baby,I check my pants all d tym for anii sort of discharge, I panick anitym I v cramps or flutters,I check my boobs all d tym to c if dey still hurt...do help please before I go crazy
I think you should go for antenatal right away and let them know about your previous miscarriages. If you can get them to check progesterone and hcg levels. I had 2 miscarriages before getting pregnant...they found out I had low progesterone at 6 weeks and was prescribed d pills. I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant.

Same question I asked my colleagues at work and they laughed and told me to go back home remove the clothes from the pack and put in my nose, that the result will tell me if I should wash or not. This I did and noticed they all didn't have baby friendly fragrance. they smelt harsh, from dust to storage smell. I quickly bought persil and comfort - used a washing machine to spin them once, when dried I sat down and ironed everything. Now the box and room where the clothes are really smells fresh.
Correct....Most pregnancy website advise that you wash everything that is going to touch your baby's skin because babies have sensitive skin and react to the chemicals used in packing and protecting clothes. My 3 year old son still gets skin irritation from unwashed new clothes.

I had the same issue, in my first trimester. I woke up and was eating gizzard like I was training to turn in
to a chicken smiley

I've heard about not eating liver and not eating too much fish (fish is due to high mercury content. I don't know if it refers to fresh or frozen though. Also watch Caffiene intake (black tea, Lipton and co, have about 45mg of Caffeine but that's okay, don't surpass 200). They have so many rules and laws for Pregnancy, it can make you afraid to even leave your house. I think common sense is all that's needed and not over-doing anything.

Don't worry, one of my sister's had a craving for Ketchup (she could pour it and be licking it off her plate with nothing else). Her boy turned out very okay.
I agree with not eating too much liver because I have first experience of the negative effect. When I had my DS I shared a room with a lady that ate tonnes of liver from her 1st trimesters, even after giving birth her sister in law brought a huge bowl of chopped liver soup for her to eat. I notice her daughter never opens her eyes even when she is crying. I walked by her bed on the way to the toilet and ask if her daughter was sleeping, she said no, she just likes to keep her eyes shut.
When the nurses came to carry out the APGAR test the next day, her daughter failed the sight test. They couldn't confirm her blind immediate until subsequent testing had been done. Too much vitamin A from animal source (retinol) during pregnancy causes blindness in babies. The vit A found in plants(beta carotene) is considered safe during pregnancy.

In other words, eat liver in moderation and avoid cod liver oil supplement during pregnancy.
HealthRe: Very Urgent!! Who Is The Owner ? by desiree(f): 11:56am On Nov 09, 2014
If those dates you gave are accurate, it is clearly not yours. She went for a test 2 weeks after you had sex and it is already positive. Most women don't implant that early and it requires a couple of days after implantation for Hcg to build up to be able to get a positive test.

Bottom line is, always use protection if you no want enter one chance.

I dont know what parents are turning into these days, how can a child be masturbating and you think mere talking will stop it. I remember as a child, my mum used pepper on me and that was the end. I discovered that my 5 yr old was masturbating (don't know how long its been going on) I talked to him to stop. the same day I saw him doing the same, I got very angry and gave him the flogging of his life. he continued and I kept doing same and since then he has not tried it. I monitor him from time to time; he just turned 6. I Really Thank God I wonder what I would have done if it became a very uncontrollable habit.
A child of 5 should know nothing about sexual release or sexual pleasure unless he is being abused. All he know is that touching his pee pee feels good and that is why he keeps doing it.

My 4 years old innocently touches himself and gets scared when his gets a" hard on" he comes running to me saying " my pee pee is growing". After that I had a good talk with him that the pee pee should remain in your pants and it is not a toy. Don't play with it and don't let anybody else play with it. He now understands the function of his organ.
FamilyRe: Why Do Men Hit Their Wives/gf by desiree(f): 10:11am On Nov 09, 2014
Sophyrocks:
Op, Not all men hit their wives/girlfriends. The ones that do were either brought up in violent/dysfunctional families where their fathers would hit their mothers or are not mentally o.k in the head or were not properly trained and have no control over their tempers/emotions. In the end, we ladies have been given the power of choice; to make good choices of the men we date/marry. Any woman who allows such abuse should be ready to die.
I agree with you. Men learn violence from their fathers. If a man hit you once and you do nothing to put a stop to it he will hit you again.

Also" boys" claiming to be men that were in cults and street gangs in their past tend to live off this power that can do as they like. They need to be thought a lesson and no woman should put up with such violence.

The American doctors association has given out reasons for the possible cause of cancer:
1.do not take tea in plastic cups
2.do not eat anything hot in a plastic bag e.g chips
3.do not heat foodstuff in a microwave with a plastic material

REMEMBER. when plastic gets into contact with heat it produces chemicals which may cause 52 types of cancer
I was telling my friend this...she is fond of cooking moi n-moin in small plastic bowls or sandwich bags. I never even microwave my children's meals in plastic plates.

Cancer is the number one killer of Nigerians recently.
HealthRe: Mums: Would You Consider An Epidural? by desiree(f): 8:28pm On Nov 03, 2014
Epidural is a life saver....In fact, where I live you would be scolded by the midwives if you decide not to have one. When it is done by professionals, nothing can go wrong. I had it for my first and I felt like I was floating in air.My baby came out after two pushes and I was laughing and smiling all the way through delivery& stitch up, I hardly broke a sweat.
