Good day mamas in the house,
I moved over from the pregnancy thread, and has found this thread helpful. A FTM here. My baby is just 6 weeks old and has been having rashes all over her body inccluding her head...I use Ori (shear butter) for her body and johnson baby oil for her hair.
Don't no the cause of all these rashes oo. Pls I need your assistance as this whole thing is about to drive me crazy.
Secondly, my elder sister's new born 4 weeks has been stooling (over 6 times a day)..greenish stool. Pls I need your urgent response on these issues.
God bless u all.
Quit using Johnson baby oil. Their products are not ideal for African babies. You can use shea butter from head to toe or even coconut oil. Use baby detergent or hypoallergenic detergent to wash your baby's clothes and beddings. Check your baby wash or soap too. My baby for instance gets rashes from any wash with sulphate, I had to go all organic with black soap.

Greenish poo, tell the mother to stop drinking milk for a while. If no difference, then she has to see a paediatrician.

Hi mum's in d house. My 10months old baby has bn battling with cough and cattarh for 2weeks now. Hv used zinnat and augumetin but still nt going.#newmu#
Were those medications prescribed by a paediatrician? Augumentin for common cold? Get your LO nasal drops and put drops of olbas oil(eucalyptus oil) on his/her pillow or in a bowl of hot water , let him inhale it.Also give vitamin C.

A 10 month old baby's immune system should be able fight off common cold without the use of antibiotics. Antibiotics are only used in cases of pneumonia or other viral infections.

Her fisher price rocker(3months to toddler), pram (stroller) helped a lot...then I sit her in between my laps though a baby will start sitting at the time nature considers appropriate and easy.

My baby didn't have full neck control until about three months and I was getting scared cos she had jaundice at birth, twas so serious that she had an ebt....you need to see hw happy hubby was when she started sitting..

Also remember babies develop at their time...my baby cousin crawled for about 3wks before she started walking at 8months plus but couldn't talk until she was almost two but she recognise everyone's phones, shoes and other personal items...
As long as we all understand that babies develop at their own pace. I don't remember teaching my older LO how to sit up, I just gave him lots of tummy time. He would roll over when he gets tired of that position. He figured out how to sit up and crawl on his own. Ultimately, he walked at 10 months.

I got to understand that with boys you don't want to rush them to sit up. They will do it when they are ready.

For instance, when you carry them in an inclined position they will start to struggle to pull themselves up or when you push then in a buggy with a carry cot, they will pull up. That is when you know they are ready and that happens at around 5 months.

Please where in lagos can one get brewers yeast.

Palm wine did the magic for me. The result was immediate
Any big pharmacy should have it, even GNC stores in Opebi or Surulere. Get ready to pump and store breast milk o, because if palm wine works immediately brewer yeast is 10 times concentrated and packed with B vitamins.

Congrats mama, same thing happened to me last week when i had my baby, i took pap i didnt work for me but palmwine did, the result was almost immediate and i've been overflowing with breast milk since then.
Please the alcohol in palm wine is not suitable for babies o as it gets passed to your breast milk. That is how social services take babies away from their parent.

Instead of palm wine, next time use brewers yeast. That is what is in palm wine and beer that makes them increase breast milk supply.

Have you tried Bepanthen N.ipple Cream for the sore tips? It literally dries up the sore overnight and rebuilds the broken skin. And try and get your baby to latch on correctly.

Have you been diagnosed with endometriosis? That is the only reason for severe menstrual cramps and popping blood. Go and see your gynecologist fast. It is well o.

Please lovely mums, is it advisable for me to give my 6 months old tea i.e beverage
Tea (green tea, black tea) should not be given to children at all. Please don't give your child Lipton o, too high in caffeine...if what you meant was chocolate drinks like Milo & Ovaltine...then No. They can start taking chocolate drinks from 1 year old.

HealthRe: Is It Possible For A Hiv Positive Man Not To Pass It To His Wife? by desiree(f): 4:07pm On Jul 10, 2015
BKings:
My cousin's husband has been diagnosed with hiv. When I heard the news I put a call to her, asking her if she has it too but she said no. The man was first diagnosed +ve last november, after he became too weak and according to her, they took it as false because she was tested negative. March again this year, the man also tested positive but she negative. I then advised her to go for another test which she did few days ago and said it is negative. My question, is it possible for the man to have it and not pass it to her, or is she just lying in fear of stigmatization? She said she has stopped unprotected sex with him since last two months though, but how about other previous months they've been doing it raw. Doctors, experienced ones, please kindly say something. I'm really feeling bad
What is she still doing with that man? Why is she still having s e x with him?? Protection or not, she is putting her health at risk. She needs to run for her dear life.

Thank u o. I don enter am be that o cos he's already getting addicted. When Nepa bring light like this, he'll start jumping and crawls to the sitting room so i can put on the TV. Even yesternight, when his dad came back, he didn't even giggle and crawl to him the way he used to cos he was watching Barney. He cries for my phone when he sees it cos there's nursery rhyme on it and he loves it.
Wetin we go do nah. If he's not watching TV, then i must either stay where he is or back him. If not, he won't allow me do anything. God help us
Don't stress mama..you can use the son's interest in t.v to your advantage. My son started watching t.v from day one because I put a t.v in the nursery and it is was always on, he became addicted. I was rebuffed by friends and family for that but to my surprise, my son started talking at 10 months he could say things like" milk"," more water pls", "nanana(banana)". He is 5 now at the top of his class and he uses big worlds like "miscommunication", "aggression" e t.c which he picked up from watching t.v. Though he is a bit restless...trust me,; I always find something for him to do.

Infact now when I need to teach him anything new, I look for videos on YouTube and sit him in front of the computer. He plays chess now which he learnt from watching videos, he perfected his spellings with the aid of videos. Just find the right balance and make sure he is watching meaningful and educational things.

I just changed from cerelac and NaN to pap and myboy because he refused it.

I was tired of preparing his food and later throwing it away. So last Monday I tried that semo stuff one mama talked about. He took it well but I don't like the smell, so Thursday, I switched to pap.

Thanks
Did he refuse cerelac in his bottle? Personally I don't believe pap has much fat content and it isn't really fortified to help your son gain weight.

My first was small too despite being on formula from 2 weeks. He was 3.5kg at birth at 3 months old he was still 3.9kg. These oyinbo people were doing weight control for him twice a month but weren't telling me what to do to make him eat. I started giving him cereal in his bottle from 3 months and within a month he gained an extra 1 kg.

I would melt butter or cheese his pureed food and cook pasta with titus fish and extra cheese. Pasta is even more fattening than amala and ewedu. Mash plantain or potatoes with fish and butter also give him juice diluted with water instead of plain water.... Adding to what @bossladymo1 said. Goodluck and don't let anyone make you feel inadequate as a mother.

That 'baby must not belch on your breast' thing is one of the many ridiculous myths in Yoruba land. What you describe sounds like Mastitis. Read the link below.

http://m.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/mskpages/Breastfeeding_dealing_with_mastitis?open
That was the same thing my 9ja folks told me when I developed mastitis. I reported to my paed and he almost peed his pants with laughter. huh Actually, it has nothing to do with the baby belching on your breast.

Traveled with my twins when they were four weeks. About 18 hours journey. When the plane is about to take off, make sure u start breastfeeding or at least he sucks on something. And constantly feed him. Request for a bassinet on the plane, or before u travel.
Depending on the airline, some planes give pregnant women and women with babies extra care. Like u get to eat 'extra' snacks, extra water etc. always ask for them.
When u re about to land too. Feed your baby.
Mine dint even fuss one bit.

And carry about 20 diaper and loads of wipes and ur babys food (if he's eating already), napkins, etc
Thanks for the tips ....my LO will be 5 months then. He is eating pureed food and cereal now,I hope they would let me pass through security with my flask of hot water.

Mastitis is what you have...it happened to me when my LO was 2 weeks old. rub some olive oil on your tips and leave on for 10_ 15mins before washing off. You can take pain killers to deal with the temperature and pain but you will have to go and see your doctor for antibiotics. It is caused by accumulation of br east milk and your LO not sucking it out...so breas tfeed that pikin well well o.

Mamas, hope u and ur los are doing great? May God in His infinite mercies bless us all.
On d issue of herb taking (agbo), it does work if u get d original ones and use in moderation for babies I.e one or two drops in dia mouth esp for eela n alefo n ezcema. I did use for my son when he had alefo nd it worked. I didn't use orthodox drugs with d herbs. Used only herbs. But opinions differ, u can choose not to use it. In some cases drugs just offer temp relieve for them n u wait the rest out.
Av a frnd whose baby had oka ori (greenish veins on d head), it prevents d baby from eating well n growing. All drugs just relieved temp until she used d herbs for it.
I think its a personal decision. It saddens me when we castigate mothers who do. Everything is in moderation. #mythots
Av a blessed day you all.
I personally don't feel comfortable with giving babies any thing orally if the ingredients are not listed....because I google all the components of any medication and even ask on baby center when in doubt. We all read about what "My pikin" teeth mixture did to those poor babies.

I travelled at 6 weeks with my LO (by air) but her paed insisted she takes the necessary immunization and also gave me some very useful safety tips which i couldnt have gotten from the internet . It's just possible that this baby is yet to be immunized since the mum is having emotional issues.
I strongly believe she can have another option which may not be too convenient compared to the long trip.
Please mama could you share the tips your paed gave you for air travel?. I will be going on vacay with the family very soon and I'm particularly worried about my LO's eardrums as per cabin pressure. cry

please does this black soap help with eczema n all these fungal infections. the last time I took my baby to see the paed she said the spots on his body was a fungal infection n gave me a clotrimazole cream. I actually believed it was the scars left by the alefo he had cos it was really much all over his chests when he was younger n someone told me it will take a while for the scars to go.

unfortunately his skin reacted to the clotrimazole cream so I rather apply abf cream which he tolerates better n also contains same percent of clotrimazole.

sincerely I don't know if the spots are getting better or not. on some days I think they are on others I don't think so.

I've been rubbing the cream now for almost three weeks. if its really fungal infection the thing should be obviously lesser. the more I think they are aleefo scars.

pls mamas that their babies had aleefo: how long does it averagely take for the scars to disappear n d skin color tone out?

I am seriously considering looking for another paed this is the second time her prescription didn't really help n the first time it even made things worse.Na for this thread I got suggestions that helped. maybe it doesn't mean she isn't competent sha. I just don't really look forward to our appointments n many times I go much later cos of my previous experience.

sorry for my long story...pls answer my question. thanks
I know black soap helps fade scars in adults skin so it should work for treating the actual infection and fading the resulting scars gradually. It is definitely worth trying.
Also take into consideration other things like the water you use to bath him, detergent used in washing his clothes and beddings.etc

Pls where can I get the black soap? Or maybe I'm the one making a mistake here undecided . A yoruba woman that sells herbs gave me the soap after complaining to her when my baby had ela. Its a bit brownish with a pap consistency. Its not irritating the way u've described it as I've bn using it on my LO. I've always assumed what she gave me was dudu osun undecided
You can get it from the local abidjanaise people in any big market. They can add pure honey and campwood(osun) if you want. The real black soap should look like this...

I guess its same as dudu osun? That's what I now use for my LO. I'ts downside is that it dries the skin, so u must use a good moisturizer like shea butter/coconut oil/palm kernel oil after every bath. But on the good side, it's less irritating on the skin.
Wrong, dudu osun is not the same as natural black soap ooo. Dudu is processed garbage that contains lemon can sting and irritate the hell out of adult skin not to talk an infant's skin. On the contrary, natural black soap is not drying at all. I have white friends that i help to buy to treat their children's severe eczema and they use it with their regular lotion.

I used dudu before and when it got in my hoo haa by mistake....the sting no be here o.
