PoliticsWorld Bank Approves $500 Million To Nigeria To Improve Maternal And Child Health by Desmog21(op):
The World Bank Group’s Board of Executive Directors approved on April 23, 2015 a US$500 million International Development Association (IDA) credit to significantly improve maternal, child, and nutrition health services for women and children.

By improving access to higher quality health services, the new development financing will help Nigeria to achieve its “Saving One Million Lives (SOML) Initiative,” which was launched by the Federal Ministry of Health in October 2012 to save the lives of the more than 900,000 women and children who die every year in Nigeria from largely preventable causes.

“Saving One Million Lives is a bold response from the Nigerian government to improve the health of the country’s mothers and children so they can survive illness and thrive. This, in turn, will also contribute to the social and economic development of Africa’s largest economy,” said Benjamin Loevinsohn, a Lead Health Specialist and Task Team Leader for the new project.

Nigeria accounts for 14% of all annual maternal deaths worldwide, second only to India at 17%. Similarly, Nigeria accounts for 13% of all global deaths of children under the age of five years, again second only to India at 21%.

To address the challenge of its 900,000 maternal and child deaths, the SOML Initiative focuses on (i) increasing the use of high-impact reproductive and child health and nutrition interventions; (ii) improving the quality of these services; (iii) strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems and measurement data; (iv) encouraging private sector innovation; and (v) increasing transparency in management and budgeting for Primary Health Care (PHC) in the country.

The World Bank’s support for SOML will utilize the Program-for-Results or PforR instrument to encourage a greater focus on results, increase accountability, improve measurements, strengthen management, and foster innovation.

PforR funds will be only be disbursed to the Federal and State governments for independently verified improvements in key services such as vaccination coverage among young children, rates of contraceptive use, Vitamin A supplementation, skilled birth attendance, HIV counselling and testing among women attending antenatal care, and preventing new malaria infections among children by using insecticide- treated bed nets when they sleep.

Federal and State governments will also receive incentive payments for better tackling governance and management issues in the health sector and for improving the quality of basic health services.

“This welcome new Program for Results operation for health will also strengthen Nigeria’s own health system and development footing while also providing an important mechanism for bringing both Government and development partners together around a commitment to achieve specific, tangible results,” said Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly, Nigeria Country Director.

The program will be implemented under the Federal Ministry of Health, in close cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Finance which will provide financial oversight role.

The new health operation is expected to start implementation on August 1, 2015 and will end four years later in December 2019.

PhonesEcoo Aurora E04 Discussion Thread by Desmog21(op):
Ecoo Aurora E04 became popular since they are launched, because of it beautiful design and high specifications.
Now, ECOO has released an update version Ecoo Aurora E04 Plus (3GB).

New Aurora has 3GB of RAM like other flagships, and the 3GB RAM will bring better user experience.
Aurora adopts the new 2.5D Arc screen. Support FDD LTE/4G, Miracast, smart wake, fingerprint ID, etc.
Multi-language supported, and Google play store pre-installed.

Performance
It has a octa-core Cortex-A53 based processor which is coupled with a Mali-T760 GPU.
The Cortex-A53 is ARM’s super power efficient variant from its first generation of 64-bit processors. The MT6752 uses eight Cortex-A53 cores all clocked at 1.7GHz.

According to Ecoo the MT6752 is twice as fast as as MediaTek’s quad-core Cortex-A7 based processors, but with 30 percent less battery consumption.

The UI is smooth and rapid, and in fact the E04 has one of the fastest UI that I have recently seen on a Chinese OEM phone. The Aurora E04 handled everything you can ask of it including gaming and video.

Highlights

5.5inch IPS OGS capacitive screen, 1920x1080 pixels, Aurora adopts the new 2.5D Arc screen.

CPU: Advanced MT6752 Soc, 64-bit, its performance is nearly twice as fast as MT6582 GPU:Mali-T760

Android 4.4, 3GB RAM + 16GB ROM, play massive game easily after you opened applications of memory consumption

E04(3GB) will be equipped with Android 5.0 (Lollipop), the most obvious change is the colorful magnificent UI.

Dual SIM card dual standby, Micro sim and normal sim

Dual Cameras, 8.0MP front camera, 16.0MP back camera with flashlight and auto focus

Support FDD LTE/4G/3G/GPS/Wifi/Bluetooth/Miracast/smart wake

Built in advanced fingerprint ID technology, functions can be locked individually.

Battery capacity is 3000mAh

Networking:2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz, 3GWCDMA 900/2100MHz, 4G: FDD LTE: 800/1800/2100/2600MHz

Price
the Aurora E04 is a 4G LTE enabled smartphone, with a full HD display and a octa-core 64-bit CPU. The performance is good for this price point, and the promise of Android 5.0 Lollipop is quite enticing. You can pick up an Ecoo Aurora E04 for around $190, which when you consider the overall specification of the device, is a great price.

PoliticsOpinion on GEJ administration by Desmog21(op):
I saw this beautiful comment on a forum so I decided to share with you!
I have been quiet for a while about the ongoing election preparations in Nigeria. However, it has come to the point that I have decided to air my view. Most people have been condemning President Jonathan for his poor administrative strategies. There's no doubt that his administration is fraught with lots of corruption and insensitivities to salient matters. However, it is pertinent to note that he is ruling the country with gun pointed to his head, and knives pointed to his throat, solely because he is a Christian and from the South-south. He never got the support of the people ruling alongside with him. Don't forget that the likes of General Buhari who is currently seeking to unseat him vowed to make the country ungovernable for him. He was an ordinary civilian and needed the support of the house to carry out important decisions and policies. Buhari, the northern muslims and their cliques formed opposition group to frustrate all the good efforts of President Jonathan. Given the divisive nature of Nigeria, no ruler would have succeeded better than Jonathan, if faced with the kind of opposition that Jonathan faced. Jonathan may not be the best person to rule Nigeria, however, juxtaposed against Buhari, I will choose Jonathan a million times. Here are my reasons: 1. Buhari is a dictator who does not believe in democracy. 2. Buhari is a fanatic who puts religion first before the people. 3. Buhari does not support a good course; he openly vowed to make Nigeria ungovernable for President Jonathan only because he was a Christian. 4. Buhari is a liar who said he was poor while he is living in affluence. He is richer than 30% of average Nigerians combined. 5. He is dishonest because he never reviewed how he acquired his wealth. 6. He did not finish secondary school but got enrolled into Nigerian Defence Academy. 7. If elected he will commit genocide against Christians in the north. 8. He is frail; age and health are not on his side. 9. His previous rule did not bring Nigeria any good other than hash treatment on teachers.

I am from the north but I do not support evil. Let us look for a more credible, young and learned leader who understands what leadership is all about. Somebody who will listen to the cries of the masses and do something to remedy the ugly look of things in the country. Buhari will only end up arming the terrorists, to keep killing innocent citizens. I have spoken and take it as a piece of the iceberg.

IBRAHIM SANUSI.

When has Buhari says he would enforce Sharia in the country...... Or the man is being selective because sharia came to be during OBJ regime..... Just like how they lied about islamize of this nation they have gone to say he will implement sharia law to govern the nation....
This shows how desperate PDP can go to discredit this man who is opposed to corruption and wants the beat for his country.
