PoliticsRe: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by deutchroyal:
ONITSHA—Aggrieved women at Nkpor Main Market, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, yesterday, staged a peaceful demonstration to protest against imposition of high tax by officials of the market and some government revenue agents. The over 100 women, under the aegis of Nkpor Main Market Women Petty Traders Association, closed their shops and stormed the Idemili North Local Government Secretariat, Ogidi, as early as 8a.m. with different placards. Some of the placards read in part: “We can’t afford to pay as much as N30,800 per head as tax in the market because we are merely petty traders.” “Is it from the sale of vegetables, fruits and plaiting of hairs that we will get the N30,800 to pay to the revenue agents?” “Both state and local governments should help to liberate us from these Shylock revenue contractors.” Nkpor Main Market, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State market women protesting over N30, 800 tax, at Ogidi, yesterday. Speaking to newsmen during the protest, Mrs. Veronica Eneh, a stakeholder in the market, said the Chairman of the market, Lawrence Okonkwo (aka Ububa) brought in some persons he introduced to them as state government revenue agents that would be collecting tax and other revenues amounting to N30, 800 per head, per annum. Eneh said initially, they were paying only N192 as revenue to the government until few years ago when it was increased to about N4, 800 and when they protested and refused to pay, the then state government task force on revenue collection, popularly known as Ndi Mpiawa Azu (those who break peoples’ backs with sticks), were unleashed on them and they were prompted to go to court to challenge the harassment and increase in payment of levies. The traders contended that as the matter is still pending before the Magistrate Court, the same group of revenue agents came into the market again and told them that their total payment for tax and other revenues is now N30, 800, adding that to worsen the matter, they were told that the new fee would be paid in arrears with effect from 2013. They also hinted that previous chairmen in the market had never levied the petty traders so much in the market until the advent of the incumbent Lawrence Okonkwo-led market executive, insisting that they cannot afford this N30, 800. The women wondered why the revenue officials could not come into the market and assess them individually before imposing the tax payment, adding that government should come to their aid because they do not have any other means of livelihood should they be ejected from the market, as the revenue agents threatened to do. Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Emma Idemobi was not in office during the demonstration, but chairman of the market leadership, Lawrence Okonkwo told newsmen on phone that it was not the market leadership that imposed the levy but the state government. He added that the only role he played was just to invite the women to come and listen to the revenue officials from the state government.

Thanks bros where is that cocky chino or china

B2mario:
Bro I'll be happy if you can help us and get some current pix of Aba. such places like factory road, ekenna, umungasi, Aba-owerri road, brass, okpulor, ASA, azikiwi road, tenant road, east road, market road, school road, hospital road, bevery-hill road, mosque road, old and new GRA etc. I'm far from home if not I would have done it myself. Abia is a blessed state one have to be proud of, one of the most developed and industrialized states in Nigeria.

Abia is the light and proud of Igboland, we are leading almost in everything. Aba might not be good but better than most Nigerian cities and people should not judge Abia based on some few bad roads in Aba.

I know TA. Orji failed Aba but it still retain its glory as the most planned city in Nigeria and a city with the highest number of high rise and decent buildings distributed round the city, Aba does not have a place one can call slum. every part of the city has decent and beautiful houses.

I don't know where the issue of CURSED STATE emanated, no right thinking person will look at Abia with her potentials and term her a cursed state. Apart from Enugu and Imo state in southeast which other state is better than Abia in terms of beauty?

Abia has the highest number of cities in the whole of southeast.
•Anambra has one city, Onicha and two other towns, awka and Nnewi
•Imo has one standard city, Owerri, 2 semi city-towns, Orlu and Okigwe and many towns like Oguta, Umuaka, Mgbidi, Nkwerre, Nwaorieubi, Anara etc.
•Enugu has one standard and super city, Enugu and one semi city-town, Nsukka and many urbanised towns/areas like Orji river, Obollo afor, ehamufu etc.
•Ebonyi has one city, Abakiliki and two towns, Afikpo and Uwana.

But Abia has 4 cities, Aba, Umuahia, Arochukwu, and Ohaofia, 5 towns, Abiriba, Igberre, Alayi, Uzoakoli and Amaigbo, 9 semi towns like Uturu, Azumili, Ohanku, Umudike, Amawor, Umuokpara, Owerrinta, Ndioro and Owaza. Don't mind the op of this thread, it's Chino, the mad cow.

Abia has it's great share in Nigeria history through Arochukwu. It was an Aro man, Eze-chime that founded Onitsha in Anambra which Zik retraced his origin to Benin kingdom in one of his writings because he wanted to gain political prominence in Edo people of old Midwestern region of Nigeria. It was also an Aro man that founded Efik in cross river state, Agbo clan in Abi LGA of Cross river state, Arondizogu in Imo state, Andoni and Bonny in rivers state and some part of Ikwerre clan.

In the past we produced many figures and we are still producing them today.
We are silent great achievers and we don't make noise unlike our sister state Anambra.

Young man try to appreciate a good thing ok

mandax:
Hospitals or......buildings?

With small hospitals in the 27 local government areas to serve as consulting clinics,

what Imo state now needs are three big hospitals in its three senatorial districts; well equipped, possibly, each specializing in different areas of health care, but each must conduct blood, urine, faeces, tissue and other tests, preventive health care, as well as conduct health research.

Do you equip the 27 general Hospitals with mere beds or with modern hospital equipments?
Money from where?

Hospital equipment are most expensive and updated frequently;

which state government can equip and update the equipments in 27 big hospitals as in Imo state, and sustain the system?

Why are you always bitter with yourself? Can Awka beat any picture already posted here? Why are you always frustrated and filled with inferiority complex.

It is clear that Owerri has made Awka to look like a glorified village indeed. The pictures speaks volume and contradicts everything you say all the time. Until your useless state gets infrastructures as a state capital it will continue to be backward.
