I've done that sir. Sorry I'm new here and didn't know how to go about it.
Thanks

Okay would do that. Thanks.

VO: Your passport and i-20 please

Me: Good morning and hands it over vo where will you be going in the united states me Southern Illinois university Edwardsville

VO: Why the United State of America?

Me: I'm not sure what I said here but she didn't let me talk for up to 10secs before cutting me short and repeated the same question "why the United States of America. I tried changing and rephrasing my answer but she cut me short again and asked another question.

VO: How many schools did you apply to?

Me: 3: Southern Illinois university Edwardsville, Southern Illinois university Carbondale and Southwestern Oklahoma State university

VO: Why SIUE

Me: I chose SIUE because it is known for its excellent academic reviews and reputation as regards my field of study. Also, according to the US news and world report SIUE is listed among the..(she cut me short again and asked another question)

VO: You are aware you are going for a two year course, why invest so much time and money into this course

Me: I took interest in Geographic information system when I took a course in GIS in my undergraduate days. I was fascinated at how GIS could solve most of the problems facing Nigeria such as the ineffectiveness means of data collection, storage and record keeping...(she didn't let me finish before she cut me short again and asked the next question)

VO: Who's going to be sponsoring you?

Me: My dad

VO: What does it do

Me: He is a professor in the University of Ibadan

VO: How much does it earn annually?

Me: Over 500 000 per month

VO: You aren't qualified for a non-immigrant visa. This paper will explain more to you. (She hands me the green paper and I left) The reason for my denial according to the paper she handed over to me was no prove of family ties even though according to the DS160 all my family members are here Nigeria. cry

That's it o! Please I need your help guys. She didn't give the time to talk much. She was just cutting me short. cry I'm guessing probably my answers weren't good enough. Please I need your help on better response to give to questions like this.

Thanks cry
Hello guys. I don't know if anyone remembers but I shared my past transcript(I was denied though) here just last week and sought for help as my interview was just a week away and fast approaching. My interview this time was scheduled for 11:15 21st of July which was 3days ago. I got there quite early around 9am. There was a long queue. I joined the queue and went thru all the proper channels for documentation. Finally I got to the VO and my heart was racing at first. I so wanted to be interviewed by the chinko guy at window 6 because he face looked cool but I was directed to window 8 and just as it was almost my turn, I wanted to run to the toilet so when I get back I could get another opportunity to be directed to window 6 but something pinned my legs to the floor and told me not to run. Anyways this was how the interview went.

Me: Good morning sir (with a smile)
VO: Good morning, are you a barrister?(with a smile as well)

Me: No
VO: oh! You are dressed like one(with the nicest smile I've ever seen from a VO).

VO: so you are going to study for your masters in Geography right?

Me: yes but I would be specializing in the area of GIS, Geographic information system.

VO: okay. Please excuse me, I need to get water

Me: no problem sir (with a smile. Although my heart was really beating fast. But while he was gone, I was really praying for favour. He got back and apologized for taking a break and I was like its no problem *with a smile again. Lol. Basically, I was just smiling all through)

VO: when did you graduate?

Me: 2016

VO: so what have you been doing since then?

Me: I graduate 2016 and I had to go for the compulsory one year national youth service which I completed not long. After then I did a voluntary youth service with One African child foundation

VO: okay so what did u do?

Me: I actually volunteered to make awareness on social media and I made financial contributions.

VO: okay so y do u want to study GIS?

Me: my interest in gis started when I took a course in geographic information system during my undergraduate days. I was so fascinated as to how gis could solve most of the problems we facing here in Nigeria. Studying GIS would help me sharpen my geospatial analytical skills and problem solving skills. But most importantly studying gis would help me kick start my career as a GIS expert at NEMA.. National emergency management agency.

VO: okay. I can see from your i20 that you are eligible to study in the united state but you have to help me understand how you re going to fund that. Who's gonna be sponsoring you?

Me: my dad

VO: he is a professor right?

Me: yes. He is a professor in the university of Ibadan, and he's also a visiting lecturer to other universities. He has other investments, he has a farm and a poultry where he supplies other states in the country with life stocks and agricultural produces.

VO: but as a professor how does he want to sponsor you? Lemme see ur bank statement.

Me: *Hands it over to him and was praying seriously in my mind

VO: (*He was just scrutinizing the thing o!) But as a professor, how did he manage to av up to this in his account

Me: like I said he is a professor and as a professor he has the ability to lecture at other universities at the same time. So he lectures in more than one university. He also has other investment. He has a farm and the poultry where he supplies other states in the country with agricultural produces and besides he has been saving up for my masters degree ever since I gained admission.

VO: okay that's fine with me.. So I would be issuing your visa. Come pick up your visa at this location I will be circling after 3 working days

Me: (with a very big smile) Thank you sir

That's it guys. Who ever said there's no God? There is my people cos to me, the success of this interview was just by his mercy. I was favoured. After being denied in April, I was so scared this time but with God and some amazing people I met here on nairaland, I was approved this time. He didn't ask me much questions. All the common questions I had prepared for like *why the US*, *why the school*, *study plan*, *y masters* and others. Although I prayed so hard but I also did my own part of preparing day and night. My transcript won't be complete if I don't mention these set of people God bless me with during this period, they also made this possible @Coloniel5000, @tolatof. Your sacrifice and encouraging words won't be forgotten. I don't know you guys facially but you guys are simply the best @Glocal, @wisepluto, @jelmusboy, @ponlear and everyone here on nairaland. Thanks for responding to my numerous messages and reaching out to help.

I know you must have researched some information about your program /course in the USA.
Why do you want to go to USA? - To pursue Master's in your program.

Why do you want to study the program in USA? This US University has great facilities for research........... . Moreover, a MS degree from a University in US has high recognition in Nigeria and would help me establish myself in good position after my MS.
Quote authentic numbers from your program research to show how informed you are.

Don't just panick.
Rehearse your answers and rephrase them as many times as possible.

Just relax and reword your response.
You were asked for annual income but stated monthly salary. I m not sure if the VO prefers stating the income in $.
Overall, convince the VO on why you are spending on getting educated in the US
Im not sure if you can talk about funding opportunities available in your dept after the Ist semester, if you can maintain a certain cgpa.
So many guesses and asssumptions Im making.
Also work on why USA?
Really thanks for taking out time to respond. I'm grateful. But right now I guess the shortage of time or insufficient time to prepare is just getting me tensed. I'm panicking and I'm not thinking well. I don't what to say? I've searched and searched on reasons for choosing the united state to study

I have but in my response, its not showing his monicker Ponpon. Its showing just a dot. I searched for Ponpon and quoted a his response to someone's question. Please wasn't that what I was meant to do? If no, can you please give an in-depth explanation on how else to reach him

Thanks

Good evening Ponpon

I was directed to you by some one. Please I need your help. Don't know how to get to you but I hope you see this in time.

I was denied US visa the last time I applied in April/May which was for summer. I had stated how the interview went but I will post it again in my next comment. I was denied and I had to defer my admission to fall. Now I'm applying again I was told you are studying a related course to what I intend studying in the united state. Please can you share your testimony with me. I mean the questions you were asked during your interview and how you answered each one. Please my interview is just 8days away. In fact, today is gone so i have just 7days left.

Really?

Too bad cry what do you suggest I do? I don't know any one else who can sponsor me without raising a red flag in the mind of the VO

I'm confuse. And its just 8days away

In my honest opinion, i feel your dad's income isn't sufficient to cater for your studies. I await the feedback of others
But in a year, that would be 6million. Now i don't know what to do. I was told earlier by an uncle like that that if I was denied a visa before and I try reapplying, I should make sure the details or information i gave in the previous DS160 is the same as the one I give for the current application. His point was that there mustn't be any discrepancy between the 2. Now how do i change that. And besides, I don't have any other sponsor that could prove as a strong tie willing to sponsor me.

Please your advice.
Thanks

Good afternoon people

Please is there anyone in the house who chose to study Geography/GIS in the united state, has been interviewed by the VO and has been issued a Visa? Please I need your help. My interview is just a week away. The first issue is the issue of home tie and the second is pertaining to the course. I've surfed the net and I couldn't come up with a better response to *why the course?* Please I need a response as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance

Hello Abujaniv

Please am new on this platform and new to obtaining any visa as well so please can you explain what SEVIS, DS-160, F1 visa and F2 visa is

In addition, I applied for masters this summer, and as regards the bank statement, I have someone with a US account as my sponsor but he said he doesn't have up to the amount the school is requesting for as the school fees. Is this going to be a problem?. Is it going to serve as a platform for the consular to deny one visa if I tender a bank statement with not up to the amount of the school fees?. Although, the man said he is ready to drop his working documents which according to him is more relevant as it is acknowledged by the US government. Will this be acknowledged by the interviewers at the Embassy?

Thanks

Hey vicjustice, thanks for the headsup.. It really indeed will save millions. Am new on this platform and am really struggling to understand how to use it..

Firstly, do I need to download any Nairaland app b4 I can post anything? Have been trying for over an hour to ask people questions but I didn't find the means to type them until now.

Secondly, how do I follow conversations about applying for visa and the most likely questions I need to prepare for. I just applied to a school in the US. Although am yet to receive my i20, I just feel I need to get myself familiarised with stuffs as resumption for summer is just around the corner. I need to be able to follow up, ask questions and contribute my own quota to topics pertaining to obtaining US visa successfully.

Thirdly, you mention in your post that we should give enough time for the embassy to process ones application to avoid denial based on that ground. Please how much time would you suggest?, and what if resumption is a few weeks away, what do you?

So sorry to bother you with all these questions, its just that am confused and I need someone's who is quite familiar with such issues or has gotten his or her visa to help a sister in need. Thanks.
