The lingering strike action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, may soon be called off, as the lecturers have agreed to an offer made to them by the Federal government.

The leaders of the academic union and the Federal government in the early hours of today, concluded a 12-hour meeting that started yesterday Thursday, September 7th. The union says they have accepted the federal government’s offer and would take the offer to their members who would decide whether or not the offer is generally accepted and then decide on when to call off the strike action.

The union says it would get back to the Federal government on its decision in a week's time.

Meet Jyoti Amge, the smallest woman ever, according to Guinness World Book of Records, who has finally gotten married to the love of her life at the age of 23.

23-year old Indian woman identified as Jyoti Amge, has been awarded by Guinness World Records as the smallest living woman, a title which has been holding since 2012.

Wearing the Islamic regalia by Ayo Fayose to the Eid ground was sinful- president of Muslim Rights Concern, Ishaq Akintola, says

President of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has described as sinful, the act of Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose a Christian, wearing the Muslim regalia, to the Eid ground for the Sallah prayers on Friday, September 1st. A photo of Fayose wearing the Islamic regalia above.

In a statement released yesterday, Akintola condemned Fayose for using the religious gathering to deliver political a speech which according to Akintola is an “executive hocus pocus, highly sacrilegious and unduly provocative. It is Act I, Scene I in the Theater of the Absurd.” Akintola said Fayose came to the Eid ground to campaign for the next person who would take over his office. He added that electorates now have to demand a psychiatric test to be conducted on those that wish to assume political office.

Pastor in Kogi state gets the beating of his life after forcefully tried delivering a mad man

Instagram user @official_ceo_brannation01 shared photos of two men fighting in Kogi state, alleging that one was a pastor and the other a lunatic. Stating that the confrontation happened just yesterday, he said that the Pastor insisted on delivering the mad man, who then responded with physical assault.

A mother of two named Blessing Taiwo has cried out to the new Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Edgar Imohimi, after officers of the anti-kidnapping unit of the command allegedly threatened her after detaining her in a cell with robbers and kidnappers.

Taiwo also alleged that the police collected N50,000 for her bail and have seized her phone, insisting that she must pay a balance of N20,000 to make up the N70,000 demanded.

TheSun newspapers reports that the victim, who spoke through an NGO, Network on Police Reform in Nigeria (NOPRIM), also wants the CP to look into the allegation by her sister who was sexually molested each time she brought food for her while in detention.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)'s National President, Biodun Ogunyemi yesterday gave the conditions for calling off its strike. It said only a speedy and positive response from the Federal Government to its letter would end the dispute.

Ogunyemi said the letter dated August 28 bears the unions position on what the government is offering in respect of the issues at stake.

Ogunyemi said the letter followed earlier meetings with the officials of the ministries of Education and Labour and Employment where it was agreed that ASUU should consult with members and “revert back to the federal government.”

The ASUU boss identified “registration of Nigerian Universities Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO), fractionalisation of salaries in federal universities and underfunding/non – funding of state universities” as issues requiring resolution between the ASUU and the federal government.
