The patient, Mr. Solomon Mmommah who, on Thursday, spoke with curious journalists who thronged the tertiary hospital, said he was happy that the operation was successful.

He said he had visited over 10 hospitals, all of which diagnosed his health issue as malaria and typhoid, even though he was not responding to any of the treatments they offered him.

Sources close to Wande disclosed to Music Gist that he was inspired to float his own label about 2 years ago when he started having problems with D’banj over the release of his 2nd album. He made efforts to leave Mo’Hits Records but was held back by Don Jazzy who promised to straighten his career for him no matter what.

That Wande is floating his own label might give people reasons to speculate a fight between Don Jazzy and Wande since he is signed onto his label Mavin but we can authoritatively tell you that they are on good terms and have an understanding about Wande’s move. Don Jazzy ,we learnt ,has given Wande the grace and support to float his label and also promised to support him.

Belgium-based Nigerian writer, Chika Unigwe, got a big break on Thursday when she was named winner of the Nigeria Prize for Literature.

Her novel, On Black Sister’s Street, beat the two others shortlisted for the prize established in 2004 by the Nigeria LNG.

These are Only a Canvas by Olusola Olugbesan and Onaedo: The Blacksmith’s Daughter by Ngozi Achebe, a niece to foremost writer, Prof. Chinua Achebe.

With the victory, Unigwe, who had won the BBC Short Story Competition in 2004, has become $100,000 richer, following in the footsteps of Adeleke Adeyemi, who won it last year.

THE Federal Government has announced plans for the gradual phase out of the use of paper-pencil and paper-pen in the conduct of public examinations in the country.

Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i, who made this known on Thursday in Abuja, said this old system would give way for computer-based test.

She spoke at the flag-off ceremony for the introduction of computer-based test by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) beginning from the 2013 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The Lagos State Government has raised the alarm over the imminent ripple effect on Lagos coastal areas of the Hurricane Sandy that hit the United States of America and the Caribbean.

The Government said the effects will be felt within a week or two weeks.

The state government has therefore warned residents in coastline and the Atlantic areas to be extremely vigilant.

At a news conference today, Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure Development, Prince Segun Oniru said experience has shown that whenever hurricane, cyclone or other natural disasters occurred on the American shore, the ripple effects were always felt in Lagos within seven and 14 days period.

Prince William’s criminal filing in the case of nude photos of his wife Kate Middleton, published recently in several magazines and circulated online, may have just gotten some legs. The Mirror reports the name of the photographer who snapped around 200 photos of the couple sunbathing — Kate, in various stages of UnCloth — has been turned over to authorities in Paris.

A source said, “William and Kate are determined to bring the person who took those photos to justice, and they’re pushing hard for a custodial sentence. They want to make an example of this person.”

Two prisoners of the Federal Prisons in Ahoada in Nigeria’s Rivers state were killed yesterday in a jail break that happened at about 5.45 pm.

Nine others sustained injuries in the daring escape from a jail house, 50 kilometers from the capital of Port Harcourt

However, four inmates escaped. And the authorities have launched a man hunt for them.

Sources said water shortage was the immediate cause of the riot that led to the jail break.

A lone car bomber approached the church gate hoping to quietly drive into the church before exploding the bomb but the security men at the gate refused him entry.
