They called for the outright cancellation of the exercise.
They particularly fingered the Kogi State Chief of Staff Edward Onoja for using security agencies and thugs to disrupt election in most polling units in Lokoja.

They got scared that despite the money spent and onions shared in souvenirs The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was still leading while votes where counted.

They particularly said with the cover of security agencies, thugs carted away ballot boxes in Workers Village Zone8 ,Paparanda, St Mary Primary School, Adankolo, Bishop Crowther Lokoja, Lokoja Club and several other units in Kogi (Koton Karfe) local government area.

They particularly fingered the Council Administrators of Kogi, Omala, Okene, Ijumu amongst others as government officials who perpetrated violence and used political thugs and the security agencies to make the bye election lacked credibility.

The political parties wondered why ADC to Governor Yahaya Bello and OC Mopol were dishing out command to their men to aid thugs to snatch boxes at the units when it was glaring that they were loosing.
The parties said the bye election was characterised by vote buying, with the APC opening shops in polling centres to buy votes, adding that the election was compromised, thus faulting the credibility of the election.

Aside the press conference the parties said it has however reported its complaints to INEC and security agencies.

It particularly called on President Mohammadu Buhari to set up a panel enquiry that would determine the level of violence perpetrated by the APC led administration leading to several deaths on the peace and law abiding citizens of the state.

Chinese officials have restricted civil servants, students and children in a mainly Muslim region from fasting during Ramadan, government websites said as the holy month began on Monday.

The country’s ruling Communist party is officially atheist and for years has banned government employees and minors from fasting in Xinjiang, home to the more than 10 million-strong mostly Muslim Uighur minority.

It has also ordered some restaurants to stay open.



The region sees regular clashes between Uighurs and state security forces. Beijing has blamed deadly attacks there and elsewhere in China on militants seeking independence for the resource-rich region.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has stated that he fought corruption during his tenure as President of Nigeria especially in the petroleum and agriculture industry.

Jonathan who revealed this in a speech at the Bloomberg studio in London, saying

”I think it is important to let you know my administration took many steps to curtail this scourge, in the areas of Finance, agriculture and petroleum. To take just one example, we drastically reduced corruption in the agricultural sector with the help of a simple mobile phone.

According to the President of the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD), Dr. Muhammad Askira, the association will start a nationwide strike on Thursday, June 9.

Askira stated this while speaking to newsmen in Kano on Tuesday stating that the decision was taken at the ordinary general meeting of the National Executive Council of the association held in Jos.

He said “16 out of 58 federal tertiary institutions or centres were exempted from the initial centre based strike for the commitment of the Chief Medical Director of the hospitals to implement the Federal Government’s directives.’’

One of the most iconic captains of the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, and former coach of the team, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, is dead, TheCable newspaper has reported. He was 54.

According to the paper, the death of the former international was confirmed by his relatives and close associates.

Mr. Keshi had lost his wife of 33 years, Kate, to cancer last year.

The All Progressives Congress has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party of sponsoring the new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers, to launch series of attacks against oil pipelines in the Niger Delta.



The South South zone of the APC, in a meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, on Friday, condemned the renewed militant attacks in the region, and said the main objective of the Niger Delta Avengers was to frustrate and derail President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said on Thursday that it was investigating the spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Campaign Organisation‎ for the 2015 election, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, ‎for fresh allegation.

A Japanese boy abandoned in a dense forest by his parents for being naughty was found alive and unharmed on Friday, nearly a week after his disappearance set off a massive search that kept the nation riveted.

Seven-year-old Yamato Tanooka was discovered in a building on a Japanese military base around 4 km (2.5 miles) from where he disappeared last Saturday after his parents left him by the side of a road, reportedly as discipline for throwing stones at cars.

A Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, has said that he regrets ever serving Nigeria following criminal charges slammed against him by the Federal government.

Orubebe is facing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for his alleged failure to declare one of his assets in 2011.

Led in evidence by his counsel, Selekowei Larry SAN, Orubebe who testified in his own defence as the court to dismiss the case as he has nothing to do with the charges brought against him.

He said:


“Let me make this point now here before this Tribunal that the only regret I have for serving this country is this trial. It is very unfortunate, it is regrettable, it is shameful. I am sad and my heart is heavy because I am put on trial on mere empty land in the bush here in Abuja officially given to me by the same government I served.

“Nigerians may not know this and I wish to say it out that during the peak of the militancy in the Niger Delta, I slept with the militants in the Creek for two weeks, negotiating with them on how to adopt peaceful approach for their demands, and in the end, my efforts brought peace to this country and our oil companies have their peace and Nigeria was better for it in the area of security and economy because of my efforts, only to be compensated with this trial that has destabilized me.

“I still love this country but I have a pain in my neck. I have respect for government and its policies. If the Code of Conduct Bureau had invited me for clarifications on my asset forms, I would have honoured them because it is a simple thing to do and because my conscience is clear.”
