Fulani herdsmen are reportedly on a mission in Agatu local government – Number of displaced persons on the rise as no shelter comes in sight – David Mark begs President Buhari to wade in No fewer than 300 persons have been confirmed dead following a siege on Agatu local government area of Benue state. Naij.com had reported two days ago that the local government area was under attack by over 300 militants, a development which was reported to have erupted following the Senate south rerun election in the state. Fresh reports from Vanguard have it that at least 300 persons have lost their lives following series of attacks by Fulani herdsmen in the last one week. Villages including Okokolo, Akwu, Ocholonya, Adagbo, Ugboku and Aila were reportedly razed as decomposing bodies of those killed were seen littering the communities. “Several communities including Obagaji, the local government headquarters, where people usually took refuge in the past, have been deserted. “People are fleeing into Ugbokpo in neighbouring Apa council. It is a well coordinated attack on Agatu communities. “As I speak with you, fighting is still raging; many are missing and we have a huge number of displaced persons without facilities to house them,” a source at the local government confirmed. Opiatoha K’Idoma, a socio-cultural organisation of Idoma sons and daughters, also issued a statement through its secretary, Adoka Adaji, where it stated that the crisis had created a huge refugee situation in the area. The statement read: “What we see happening in Agatu today can be likened to happenings in the North-East and we call for urgent action by the Federal Government. “The Idoma nation is helpless. Over 300 Agatu people have been killed and others maimed in one week without concerted effort by the state government to abate the attack, killings and destruction. “On the other hand, there are no identifiable camps to cater for the Internally Displaced Persons, which include mostly women and children; we call on the Federal Government to establish a full military base in Agatu, otherwise the area will soon become history.” Senator David Mark, a former Senate president who hails from Benue, has now called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently mobilise security apparatus to the area in order to put “a stop to the senseless carnage currently ravaging Agatu.” While lamenting the non-stop attacks on Agatu communities, Mark, who spoke through his special assistant, Benue liaison, Adakole Elijah, urged government to station soldiers in the area to check the attacks. He also urged Benue and Nasarawa state governments to take steps to check the carnage. Want to read news with extra |
Governor Ayo Fayose comes under attack over alleged role in Ekitigate saga – APC lists names of key officers to have played massive roles in the alleged poll fraud of the June 21, 2014 guber poll in Ekiti state – IGP Solomon Arase gets a request from the APC The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state has urged the Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase to prosecute Governor Ayo Fayose. In a petition signed by Olajide Awe, its state party chairman, APC also called on Arase to investigate the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Bala Nasarawa, former Ekiti Mobile Police (MOPOL) Commander, Gabriel Selenkere and other officers named in the alleged criminal manipulation of the June 21, 2014 governorship election in Ekiti state, The Nation reports. READ ALSO: We don’t need TSA – Fayose to FG APC calls for Fayose probe over role in Ekitigate saga The party requested Arase to investigate the roles of the police in the alleged poll fraud with specific investigation of AIG Nasarawa, who headed the police contingents that supervised the election. READ ALSO: TSA policy: APC blasts Governor Fayose According to Awe, Selenkere should be prosecuted because of his alleged unprofessional conduct bordering on dishonesty and violations of the code of ethics of the Nigerian Police Force. Naij.com recalls that the Nigerian Army set up an investigative panel on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 to look into the alleged unprofessional role played by its personnel after Captain Sagir Koli , a captain at the 32nd Artillery Brigade in Ekiti state. Koli had recorded audio conversation between his GOC, Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh, some other military officers and some members of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) on ways to rig the gubernatorial election in Ekiti and Osun states using the military. Months after, the Nigerian Army panel submitted a report indicting some of its officers. But in a reaction to this development, Fayose had this to say: “Now that the military has indicted itself, goodluck to them. Meanwhile, we await whatever hidden agenda behind this self-indictment.” SHARE THIS NEWS! |
APC alleges Gov Wike’s past fraudulent activities far out outweighs the $2.1 Dasukigate scandal – Calls for probe of Wike’s past activities – Commends President Buhari’s war against corruption The Rivers state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has roped Governor Nyesom Wike in a monumental fraud allegedly committed when the governor was the minister of Education. The APC has alleged that Governor Nyesom Wike perpetrated monumental fraud when he was the minister of Education The party in a statement by the APC state chairman, Davis Ikanya in Port Harcourt yesterday February 24, claims the financial fraud carried out by Wike when he was minster for Education far outweighs the current $2.1 billion arms deal scandal by former national security adviser, (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd). READ ALSO: Wike orders Rivers students on scholarship back home According to Daily Post, the party based its allegations against Wike on a report of the Peoples Coalition Against Corruption, (PCAC) which alleged that Wike diverted funds from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for private use, swindled the Universal Basic Education Fund of more than N100bn, and also mismanaged over N20 billion of the ministry of education budgets in the four years that he was in charge of the Ministry of Education. The APC said based on the report of PCAC, the alleged fraud committed by Wike in the past “will make Dasukigate look like a child’s play when the full details are made known”. According to the party, Wike’s alleged corrupt acts could as a matter of fact be termed Wikegate. It urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the relevant agencies to launch “a full-scale investigation into Wike’s fraudulent activities as a minster and now as a governor with a view to recovery public funds lost in the process”. READ ALSO: Governor Wike recalls suspended council chairmen It said: “Rivers APC also calls for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the staff of NDDC that aided Wike in his looting spree, Rivers State Government, CICO, RCC, as well as the bank officials that colluded to swindle Rivers State and Nigeria,” “As we commend and congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari for his drive to eradicate or reduce corruption to the barest level possible in our nation’s polity, we wish to encourage him not to relent no matter the odds and the efforts of corrupt Nigerians to fight it back. We totally agree with him that if we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill us as a nation.” Meanwhile, the APC in Ekiti state has urged the Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase to prosecute Governor Ayo Fayose. In a petition signed by Olajide Awe, its state party chairman, APC also called on Arase to investigate the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Bala Nasarawa, former Ekiti Mobile Police (MOPOL) Commander, Gabriel Selenkere and other officers named in the alleged criminal manipulation of the June 21, 2014 governorship election in Ekiti state. |
