If we can remember, the notorious king of the forest, popularly known as ‘Gana’, was kept far away from Benue State in the previous administration of Suswam, only to surface from the forests of Taraba/Cameroon when he was invited by power thirsty political animals to deliver their party, APC, in the April 2015 elections.
Senator George Akume and Barnabas Gemade contracted Gana with the promise of a seat in the House of Assembly, which would be reserved for one of Gana’s several wives. Fair enough deal if you ask me, but was the promise kept? NO.
To compensate the now angry, wild and dreaded Gana, The new governor of Benue State handed Gana the cash cow of the state – Agriculture. Gana collected revenues of N30,000,000.00 monthly from Agric produce and remitted about N10,000,000.00 to the State. Everyone was happy until things went south. Now his Excellency Governor Ortom wants Gana dead.
You may wonder why the romance between the governor and Gana went sour, but the reasons are not far-fetched.
After heavily empowering Gana with office of the special assistant to the governor on security and giving him two pickup loads of security men to guard him day and night, His Excellency has suddenly realized that Gana knows too much of his various shady deals.
Let us also critically look at the issue of amnesty in Benue State.

Who doesn’t love the idea of not being bossed around and told what to do? The freedom of controlling how much he earns and spends or working anytime and from anywhere; never to be queried again?

Everyone does. (Unless you’re a monk)

An entrepreneur gets to do all these things and much more which makes it the best occupation in the world so why shouldn’t you become one? In fact, the real question is why aren’t you one already?

I will tell you why:

You are scared of the change

I really can’t be soft with you here, you are being a coward. Of course, you probably heard the story of John Doe who had an incredible business idea, jumped on it, turned his back on his good paying 9-5 job and lost everything.

So what?

What is life if not risky? How can you ever make an omelet if you don’t break some eggs?

James Altucher once said “Everyone is an entrepreneur. The only skills you need to be an entrepreneur: an ability to fail, an ability to have ideas, to sell those ideas, to execute on those ideas, and to be persistent so even as you fail you learn and move to the next adventure”.

James must have been a really smart guy because I agree with him.

Look around you, unknown persons who were probably in their first year in college when you picked up your first pay cheque, are springing up to become millionaires while you are still too afraid to take a leap.

You are lazy

As pathetic as this seems, more than half of everyone who isn’t an entrepreneur falls under this tattered umbrella.

I can bet a fortune that Mark Zuckerberg and Co were not the best programmers in their time or any other time for that matter so where were the others when Mark and his team were tailoring out this money spitting idea called Facebook? Probably somewhere being lazy.

A lot has been lost as a result of laziness: fortune, relationships, and countless other things. Benjamin Franklin said: “Laziness travels so slowly that poverty soon overtakes him”.

Something out there is making a person really rich and you are probably better at it.

Nothing sucks more than to see your pitch or funding request turned down because “you are a rookie and have not enough prior experience”.
Being the new kid in the block is difficult enough and it doesn’t take much to break you and send you packing.
New entrepreneurs, writers, musicians, etc, are very fragile most of the time and need the approval of higher authorities and their audiences at the early stages of their ventures. One bad criticism and they flee.
The not good news is that the world doesn’t care if you close up shop and disappear in to thin air unless you are Facebook or Amazon.
So what do you do in this cold and lonely journey to entrepreneurship?
1. Make sure you are offering something damn great
This is one of such cases where just good isn’t good enough; if you want to skip the excruciating phases of unnecessary conventional growth in your field, you must offer something great.
Truth be told, there is no such thing as an original idea nowadays (perhaps there is but I haven’t seen it). Every new big name invention we see today is a product of an already existing idea, repackaged.
A digital autopsy of Amazon kindle and Smashword would better explain the meaning of repackaging in this context. While they are both great companies, it is obvious which one of them would be mostly missed should they pack up today.
In one of those moods an idea might come up and you would think that you have nailed the Trillion dollars idea. If it were so the world wouldn’t take so long to surpass the 2000 Billionaires’ mark.
When such an idea comes, you make a physical note of it and come back to it later. If it still sounds like that great idea, run it through your family and friends. You might be blind to the truth but they might not.

What do these authorities do different from the crowd?

True anybody can set himself up to look like a professional but they don’t. Most of the professional looking businesses you find out there are actually run by long time experts. Even if it contains 50 different ways, good luck trying to convince a reader that yours contains different content. If it looks like it, it smells like it, it might as well be it.
Here’s a thought, how about “150 ways to redecorate your home” ? Who would be interested in brand new 100 ways assuming you have included the initial 50? And wouldn’t it be nice to surf through bookshelves and the internet and find out that you are the only one to have written 150 ways?
Facebook wasn’t the first social media site but is the best because they offer more reasonable features than any other social media site out there.
Moreover, there is the belief that with experience and expertise comes more quality. A well learned preacher would go on and on because he knows quite a lot of his stuff but a rookie would be done in a jiffy.
5. Network with the big players
One common thing amongst successful business owners is that they know themselves and so if you manage to get acquainted with them, your business would be as big as theirs? That’s not really it though. It is more of the adage that says “birds of a feather flock together” . You stand a greater chance to learn how to go though the success avenue when you roll with someone who has already been through that way.
Ever wonder why it is easier for a new artist who has just been signed to a big record label to become a household name than for a well talented musician who has been working up the ladder all by himself. It is all about the company they are in.
It wouldn’t be easy to get that friendly with the bigwigs but you could walk your way up there. Start by getting familiar with the middle-class and it goes from there.

Hi again. So as not to waste anybody’s time and mine as well, let me spell out what I intend to do.
So I intend for this to be an online media, like a mock media company of a sort. There’s no monetization (at least for now), we are just gonna gather grounds with free tools we can get online and not spend a dime. If we can make it with these free tools (and we can), we sure are going to make it big.
Even though we are going to be using free tools, we must appear professional at least. How?
There’s going to be a bit of hierarchy. (PS: I know money is kinda necessary but I implore you to do this for the fun at least and there’s something in it for you too)
I propose the following positions for now:
Editor in chief: moi. As the initiator of this project, I would love to guide it and to that effect I will be act as the editor in chief and perform the role as required. Would act as the publisher. We shall talk more on this later.
Managing/departmental editors: They would be responsible for editing articles under their niches as well as assigning articles, enforcing deadlines, proofreading, writing important stories as well. The chief editor will also be involved in this and only editors would edit works done by other editors. We need about 5 or less for now.
Contributing/staff writers/columnist: Would be responsible for writing stories assigned to them by the editors and can also pitch stories to write. They would be required to meet deadlines, carryout interviews when necessary and can be promoted to editors with time.
Marketing team: everyone would be involved in the marketing in a way but there has to be a marketing team to coordinate and suggest strategies that would ensure that this project flies. This team would be led by a marketing director and would be in charge of public relations. He/she could be a writer too
What’s in for you? The fun and rush of being part of an organization and the chance to build a writer’s profile and even gain traction to your individual portfolio.
