PoliticsG7 Govs, Others Chased Out Of Npdp Meeting by Diamondwriter(op): 4:51am On Oct 28, 2013
*As Police invade Sokoto Gov’s lodge venue of meeting
* Lamido, Amaechi, Nyako, Kwankwaso, Aliero, Baraje, Oyinlola, Adamu, Shettima others present
By Henry Umoru
ABUJA— CRISIS rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP took another turn yesterday, as the Police stormed the Sokoto Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja where the Abubakar Kawu Baraje-led new PDP, including opposition governors were holding a meeting and chased them out. A few hours before the group assembled at the Sokoto Governor’s lodge, it had cried out that the government had started a clampdown on the businesses of its members as well threatening their lives.
Having been prevented from holding their meeting at the Sokoto Governor’s lodge, members of the group reassembled at the Kano State Governor’s lodge where the meeting eventually held.
The meeting was first of its kind since the Federal High Court upheld the Alhaji Bamanga Tukur-led National Working Committee as the authentic one as well as the endorsement from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Present at yesterday’s meeting were governors Sule Lamido of Jigawa; Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko of Sokoto State; Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano; Murtala Nyako of Adamawa and Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State, just as governors Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara and Aliyu Babangida of Niger were absent.
Also at the meeting were former governor of Kebbi State and ex- FCT minister during late President Umaru Yar’adua’s administration, Senator Adamu Aliero; former governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki; former governor of Gombe State, Senator Danjuma Goje; former governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Abdullahi Adamu; chairman of the group, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje; the group’s Deputy Chairman, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja; secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; PDP National Vice Chairman, North West, Ibrahim Kazaure; Alhaji Kassim Shettima, among others.
There was neither a press briefing nor statement at the end of the meeting, just as the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze promised that a communique will be issued today.
A source disclosed to Vanguard that the group discussed the Abuja High Court judgement, INEC recognition of Tukur-led PDP, and clampdown on members’ property in Abuja by the government through the Minister of FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed. They were also said to have discussed how to receive new governors who plan to join the group.
*nPDP Govs
We are endangered — G7 Govs, Baraje
Meanwhile, the new Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP members had earlier cried out that its members have become endangered species with series of clampdowns on them, their offices and businesses.
The Presidency was also alleged to have concluded arrangements to go after all senators and members of the House of Representatives who are members of the group with the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC under an operation code-named, “Operation Coerce Them Back to Tukur”.
Also as part of clampdown on the members, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar was said to have ordered the immediate withdrawal of security aides attached to former governor of Gombe State, Senator Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central) and former governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki (Kwara Central).
A statement signed by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Eze Chukwuemeka said: “It has become necessary for us to cry out in view of the war declared on the New Peoples Democratic Party (NPDP) and its members by certain agents and henchmen of the Goodluck Jonathan administration who have embarked on a mission to intimidate and overawe us, using various unconstitutional means to achieve their selfish goals.”
Giving a chronicle of experiences of members of the Baraje-led PDP, Eze said: “The past few weeks in particular have witnessed the implementation of a well coordinated and systematic plot to traumatise, annihilate and cripple us economically and politically in flagrant disregard of Chapter IV Section 33 to 45 of the Nigerian Constitution that guarantees our fundamental human rights as Nigerians. A few examples of the excesses of these agents of confusion and enemies of democracy would suffice:
“Contrary to provisions of Chapter IV Sections 42, 43 and 44 of the Constitution which guarantee our right as Nigerians to acquire and own property in any part of the country, our National Secretariat and most of our State Secretariats have been sealed up by the Police on the orders of those in power. This is despite the fact that we still have a court case against Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and his National Working Committee (NWC). http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/10/g7-govs-others-chased-npdp-meeting/

Bummi nodded and walked out of the room. She noticed her parents had left the living room and said a short prayer of thanks. She had intentionally forgotten to mention kelvin coming over,to them.

''hi'' he was smiling sheepishly then she opened the door. '' am sorry,i just didn't want you to change your mind''. He smiled hard but she didn't return the gesture. ''is everything okay? I can leave if you want-''

''no... It's not you. Everthing is fine. Come in.''

''really bummi, what is wrong?'' he asked very seriously as he stared unmoved, into her eyes.

''what's wrong is that they are about to see your baby'' Ronke called as she stormed the living room.

''ronke!'' Bummi retorted but it was too late. Kelvin heard it all.

''what!'' he froze like he had ice poured on him. ''i don't understand. You want to sell juniour?'' his expression changed.

''not sell'' Bummi's voice begged. ''we want to give him up for adoption''

''sounds lie the same thing to me'' ronke chipped in.

''we? Who's we?'' he asked confused.

''doesn't matter kev. It's for the best'' Bummi said. She gained control of her voice.

Kelvin looked like a soldier who had just lost his family. His eyes were clouded, his face folded in pity.

''okay'' he said

''okay?'' both sisters asked in unison. Stunned at his respond.

''okay,am going to adopt him'' he declared.

''what? No!''

''now it's official you are a dummy'' ronke stated as she entered inside the room after her sister.
''what's that suppose to mean?'' ronke glared at her sister before she took a seat on her bed.
''it means what it means. You want to sell your child because you are too chickeny to take care of him. Wait, even chickens aren't scared of looking after their chicks. So where does that leave you?''
''you wouldn't understand even if i did wanted to explain''
''of course i wouldn't. Why should i? After all you are the one who got pregnant at a party just because you couldn't hold up your dress. I totally understand why i wouldn't understand'' she hissed and switched her attention to something else.
Bummi stared at her sister for long. The girl was an epitome of mystery. One minute it would seem like she preferred the devil to you,the other it would seem as though she cared. Ronke have never made a relationship with her, easy. The sibling rivalry had been on for long but it took a new dimension when bummi announced that she was pregnant. She could see the way ronke would stare at her sometimes like she was a leper or an orphan. And ronke had always been the loose one among them both but a moment of passion had changed bummi's life forever.
''aren't you going to get that? It's disturbing the heck out of me.'' ronke drew bummi's attention to her phone that had been ringing.
''hey'' bummi said into the cell phone. ''now?... Okay i will be right there.''
''who was that?'' ronke asked almost nicely.
''it's kev. He's here''
''what? Now?''

''i thought there will be a tiny bit of excitment'' mr shola stared at everyone of them. Not even ronke had a smile on her face. Regardless he continued. ''i know this is hard. To give one's child away to someone you don't know, but i promise you it's for the best''
''your father is right, honey'' mrs shola spoke for the first time. ''in between school and living your life as a teenager, you would not have enough time for your son but if you give him to someone else. Some other couple out there. They will cherish him as their own and raise him in the best possible way which he deserves.'' she forced a smile. It was an emotional one.
''okay. I have heard you both'' bummi braved up. ''so what's next?''
mr shola hesitated for a while as if to check if she was ready.
''mrs lizzy said she would set up time for a homestudy or two. Don't worry,it's just for formality sake. After that, the couple would like a meeting with you. And probably junior too''. He smiled. ''then the paper works and voila! He becomes theirs'' his smile grew wider. ''they are even willing to pay a token'' he added and his wife elbowed him.
''great. You want to sell him. What do they call that? I think it's called child trafficking'' ronke commented and her parents shot her a scorn. ''what?''
''it's not child trafficking. They just want to drop something for the mother to say thanks'' mr shola battled with his words.
''sounds the same to me. Well look at the bright side'' ronke stood from her seat. ''at least she can get a new blackberry. It's good business. I should get pregnant too''. She said and stormed out of the room.
''what's her problem?'' mr shola asked no one in particular.
''i have heard you dad. Can i go inside now?'' bummi asked calmly.
''of course sweetheart. You can.''
After bummi had gone, mrs shola drew closer to her husband and placed her palm on top of his.
''do you think we should go ahead with this?'' her voice sounded low.
''why not?''
''it obviously upset them. I think they have gotten quite fond of the baby''
''it happens dear'' he moved his hands across her shoulder and pulled her head to rest on him. ''am sure they will get over it'' he said.
''I hope so''

Their parents were sitted comfortably on the couch when the girls walked in slugglishly into the living room. They both took their seats far enough from eachother afterwards a cold silence swept through the room.
''okay let's talk'' mr shola spoke after savouring the short pacific. He looked over to his wife like he expected her to say something. She ignored his stare and looked the other way. ''okay let's talk'' he said again like a confused man.
''you have said that before. Say something else.'' ronke remarked unpleasantly.
He stared daggers at her and at the same time wondered how his sweet kid transformed to the arrogant homo sapien before him.
''mrs lizzy called today'' he stated in an almost excited state.
''who's mrs lizzy'' ronke asked with a sour look.
''i wasn't talking to you missy'' he turned faced bummi. ''bummi you remember her, right?''
The name registered in her head. She first heard that name months ago, when she just delivered junior. Her school counsellor had advised her to consider putting her baby for adoption if she couldn't handle the pressure. She had spoken to her parents about it and one person let to another and another and than to mrs lizzy, the adoption agent.
''yes dad i remember her'' bummi's voice sounded like death.
''good. Well she called with some good news. They have found a couple!'' mr shola was totally oblivious of the change in his daughter's mood.
Bummi sighed bitterly, stared at her mother who equally looked moody and silence broke loose. She had totally forgotten about the whole adoption idea until now. Not that she was having a rosy life being a teenage mother but she finally found a balance somewhere between being a mother and a daughter and now mrs lizzy was back in the picture....

''dear diary, today i met baby daddy and he was looking exceptionally handsome. Well,i told him he could come over to my house whenever. I think i still have feelings for him'' Ronke teased as she entered the room on Bummi writing on her diary.
''don't you have somewhere else to be?'' bummi shot her a dirty look.
''i have somewhere to be for sure. My room'' ronke smirked. ''don't you have something better to do than write your stupid diary?''
''it doesn't concern you'' bummi looked down on her diary and continued writing.
''why did you tell kelvin he could come here anytime he wants? Do you want to get pregnant again?'' sarcasm filled ronke's voice.
''who told you i told him so?'' bummi dropped her pen again.
''i read your mind. Dummy! Who else? I saw him in church today too''
''so he just told you?'' bummi said in an almost sobbing voice.
''am sorry, was it suppose to be top secret?'' ronke teased.
Bummi ignored her and fell back to her writing. Minutes later, she heard her dad call her name and then her sister's.....

She thought for a moment and then sighed like a sage.
''it could be arranged'' she said.
''yeah!'' he restricted himself from hugging her. Maybe because he thought that he could get a slap for it. Either way he was happy that she agreed.
''thanks a lot, bummi'' he said intensely, like a ten year old whose mother had just returned from the market. ''you know i have been so scared to talk to you''
''why is that?'' bummi tried to conceal her shock.
''well,i felt you hated me so i wanted to avoid any embarrasement'' he said and she laughed at the irony. ''it's true'' he said, obviously oblivious of why she laughed.
''so what gave you the courage today?''
''well i have been thinking about it for a while now. Gathering courage.'' he smiled to sustain the mood. '' and today's homily added a boost. A lot of courage to it'' he paused. ''or is it determination?'' she pushed out her lower lips in ignorance.
''there's an adage that says;if you don't have the courage, you might as well have determination. Both will get you to the same place.'' he stopped.
''who said that?'' she asked with interest
''read it in one of lisa scottoline's nove'' he smiled proudly.
''oh,you still read novels huh?''
''yeah. I never stopped. It fill the void in my-''
''okay okay. I have heard you shakespare. No need to start quoting now.''
he laughed and a comfortable silence took over.
''i should get going now.'' she said as she noticed her sister coming towards them.
''okay then. See you later.... Friend'' he stretched his hand in handshake and she accepted it.
Ronke was already arms stretch away from them.
''bye'' she said and trotted away, ignoring her sister's questioning eyes.
''what was that about'' ronke asked as she stopped face him.
'' i have arranged my entry into the castle.'' he answered.
''castle?''
''i mean i now have a pass to come into your house to see you, princess. Bummi said yes'' he smiled gallantly.
''what! No she didn't''
''yes she did. Isn't that what you wanted?'' his smile faded.
''me?wanted? You mistake me for someone else kev. I only told you that because i thought it was one of the things you could never be able to get. I guess i was wrong'' she looked down regretably.
''yes darling. Now we can see more of eachother. '' he smiled and reached for her hands. She slapped off his.
''don't ever call me that again'' she hissed and left him dumbfounded.

''what? You know the drill, don't you?'' she asked and he nodded in affirmation. How could he forget what had become a tradition. Sundays were the only day he got to see his son though he craved for an extention.
''can't we just talk?'' he said quite friendly. Way too friendly for his standard.
Bummi froze as though she had seen her late grand father. Not that she would recognize him if she saw him. He died long before she was born.
''talk?'' she asked coldly. It still felt like she was speaking to her gramps. ''since when do we talk?'' an unusual courage surged through her. She felt she could fly.
''well since today'' he was smiling a lot. ''i just feel that its high time we stopped being kids and just grow up. We can't undo what happened in the past but we can at least have a friendly future. So why don't we?'' he beamed.
''hmm.. Nice speech obama'' she commented.
''thanks'' he smiled. ''so what says you?'' he prompted. ''we could call it a truce if you want. Only that it will last forever.''
Bummi looked at saint mary's grotto which was at her three o clock. She thought she saw mary smile.
''okay. Agreed. We have a truce. So what are the terms?'' she said, still looking at mary.
Terms? Kelvin echoed in his head. He hadn't thought she would agree so easily let alone give room for terms but now that she had,he could as well push his lucks.
''terms...'' he emphasized. ''for starters,we could begin by saying a lot more than a dry hi when we see in church, school or elsewhere'' bummi nodded in agreement. She had wanted that too. She hated it when they behaved like enemies and the akward times when they had to do things closely like sit close to eachother.
''then i could see junior more'' he said in a timid voice. She raised her eye brows suspiciously at him. '' at your house of course'' he added before she could say anything.
She went mute. Her silence killed him and she had a look on her face that he read as, 'so this have been your plan all along'...

''go in peace, the mass is ended'' the priest said through the alter microphone.
''thanks be to God'' the congregation chorused. Then the choir took over.
After the mass, multitude of persons thronged outside the church building through the mini-walkway that was aptly attached to the church entrance.
Bummi walked steadily on the pavement, trying to manuovre her way through the chattering crowd as she skimmed through for kelvin. She scolded herself as the wondered how she had lost him. She search from every group of men or women or youths. She still didn't find him.
She peered down at the baby strapped to her chest by her hand and was about to say something when she felt a tap on her shoulder.
''looking for someone?'' kelvin smiled as she turned back to see who it was that tapped her. ''sorry i had to check on someone at the sachristy'' she smiled back.
''hi...'' he said excitedly to his son as he stretched his hand to carry him.
Bummi tenderly placed the baby on his hand for the first time that day,she felt like no one was throttling her.
She smiled as she saw him cuddle the child tenderly and was about to escaped into the crowd when he touched her.
What now? She stopped breathing.
PoliticsEdo PDP Rejects Council Poll Result by Diamondwriter(op): 8:43am On Oct 25, 2013
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the southern Nigerian state of Edo on Wednesday in Benin, the capital, rejected the result of the local council election held in Esan North East on 22 October.
Mr Solomon Ogun, the Chairman of Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), had on Tuesday night announced Mr Sam Oboh, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the election.
Rejecting the result, the state PDP Chairman, Mr Dan Orbih, told newsmen that the electoral law allowed only registered political parties to contest elections.
Orbih stressed that only a party which took part in previous elections was legally qualified for a re-run or rescheduled election.
He also alleged that the APC-led government of Edo announced the result of the polls in Benin while the results were still being collated at Uromi.
“By law, only registered parties are allow to participate in elections and only parties that took part in previous elections are also allowed to take part in the re-run or rescheduled election.
“There was no APC at when the local government elections took place across the state on April 20.
“It is also undemocratic to start announcing an election’s result when the results are still being collated,” he said.
Besides, Orbih said that the result announced by the chairman of EDSIEC was totally different from the ones which the presiding and returning officers submitted to the commission.
“The result before us clearly states that the PDP won the election and we are going to stand by the result that was announced in Uromi and not the one announced by the commission’s chairman.
“The Commissioner of Police, State Security Service (SSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have the same result as the one we have before us now,’’ he said.
Orbih said: “We are going to publish this actual result so that the whole world will know that the principle of `One-Man, One-Vote’ has clearly been violated in Edo State.
“If we must deepen democracy in Nigeria, we must do the right thing at the right time; it is not an issue between the PDP and APC; it is an issue of democracy.
“We are going to contest the result in court and ensure that Mr John Yakubu, the PDP candidate, is declared the winner of the election and sworn in as the chairman of Esan North East Local Government Council, ” he said.
Orbih, however, appealed to the PDP supporters to remain calm, assuring them that the party would take a legal action to reclaim the mandate. https://m.facebook.com/Iamanedolite?v=feed&_rdr

The atmosphere of saint patrick's catholic church was saintly. Soft dry air engaged the room as the morning sun reflected on the tinted windows.
The church was unexpectedly filled to the brim. Bummi scouted for an available space along the pews. She found none but one just by kelvin's side.
She swiftly surveyed the entire church another time, praying in between to find another seat but non appeared. She looked behind her and noticed a middle-aged lady equally scouting for a seat. Before the lady could take noticed of the space beside kelvin, bummi trotted and dumped herself on the hard pew.
''hi'' she said,uneasy.
''hi'' he responded without looking at her. Unlike her,he showed no sign of nervousness or concern. He was just the typical kelvin.
She could feel the air growing thin around her. She fidgeted lightly as her arms unintentionally touched his.
The tone from the piano and the voice of the choiristers signaling that the procession was about to begin, saved her. The cross-bearer first entered the church followed by the other alterservers and the priest. Everyone arose from their seats.
''in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit'' the priest's solemnly voice worked magic as it filtered through the speakers. It silenced every thought running through bummi's mind.
