Does Chelle look like he fit take us to KO stages of AFCON? Talk true?

Besides, NFF though...

Maybe na we as fans dey see wetin dey no fit see sha. Cos their quality of managers ehnnn.

Thank God i said lets see what Chelle does in 5 games before we get carried away.
I honestly don't think he can. Not because he's not a good coach but because he has a set formation in his mind and doesn't seem willing to adapt to the payers he has. While that might work in club football,it will never work in national team football because there's no enough time to drill your tactics with the players. You have to adapt to the players you have and maximize their strengths not put them in wrong positions and be experimenting complicated tactics
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Diavolo: 7:25pm On Mar 25, 2025
I feel a lot of people are wrongly castigsting ndidi. He is no more a dm but now a low quality box to box, doesn't have the defensive discipline to stay back. But all the coaches always want to shoehorn him there and he has always struggled.
Ekong for all his good attributes has always been slow and now due to age has even lost a year of pace,so you need the fullback on his side to be fast.
Chelle left osayi who everyone saw was exhausted and probably not even fit from the injury of the last match and kept till the end of the game even when he was subpar the whole game.

Sometimes I wonder if there's a curse on super eagles coaches that make them act brain dead. Even regular Fm or fifa players can see the glaring gaps and actions that need to be taken but they never do that. From rohr not substituting against Argentina in 2018 world up to finidi playing osayi as a lb to this Chelle. It's ridiculous
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Diavolo: 7:00pm On Mar 25, 2025
The guys really tried but this is all on the coach. The starting formation, tactics and personnel choice were wrong. Then also when we finally scored, wrong substitutions, wrong instructions. Osayi, lookman and ndid should have been taking out as they were all exhausted but instead he brought in Boniface to do what exactly, when a more defensive sub and game plan should have been used. Hopefully this is a learning curve for him and he realizes his mistakes and doesn't stubbornly want to keep with this stupid formation,if not we are in for a long ride. World cup dream is officially over,we can move on to other things.

Are we to blame the coach for the abysmal play so far?
I won't call it abysmal. Just subpar. Putting the players in their best position and going with a simpler formation that they understand will make it a lot better. National teams have barely 4 training sessions in between matches, that's too little time to try to implement something very drastic and complicated.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Diavolo: 5:38pm On Mar 25, 2025
Even if we somehow win, this formation and set up should never be used again. The players don't even understand their positions, zones, who to press. We are sending the full backs very high up when we have slow CBs. Only one real midfielder. It's ridiculous.

I tell you.
The formation is making us open to counters. Against a good team on the counter,we will be picked apart. There's a reason no one is using it. I feel Zimbabwe will score on the counter.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Diavolo: 5:18pm On Mar 25, 2025
This formation is incredible. Putting several players out of position. Like I'm curious to hear Chelle line of thought. Why can't he just use a regular 442 or 433 and put everyone in their best positions. When will super eagles have a coach that's normal and optimizes the players

Philosopher1979:
Their ball retention is good. Oliseh will mark for them. You cant take the ball off pkocha anyway and kanu is creativity. I think they will match up.
As per okocha when it comes to midfield control its game over compared to any other African midfielder. No african midfielder can retain the ball like him. Maybe abedi per. Yaya toure or essein can't take the ball off okocha. Kanu creativity is something most African midfielders don't have.
These 3 can compete at a global level very easily. OK okocha when he was at Bolton took manchesyer United midfielders to the cleaners.
dribbling or doing skills that don't lead to goalscoring opportunities isn't taking to the cleaners. An average premiership midfield will overrun this trio.

Philosopher1979:
Let us have a comparison. Just to show how talented our golden generation was.
A midfield of okocha kanu and oliseh will not be outdone by a midfield of xavi, inesta and basquets.
The person who will collect the midfield from okocha has not been born. Talk less of when you put Kanu and oliseh.
It's my opinion but it's open for discussion
Okoca, kanu, oliseh vs
Xavi, iniesta busquets
Just a question,do you actually believe this thing you wrote or is just cruise. You put a kanu with low defensive work rate, Okocha with low tactical discipline and Oliseh. Those 3 aren't even African top 3 talk less of worldclass. A good not even worldclass trio will overrun without breaking sweat.

Judging by this match.Onyedika is good. Has a good ball and positioning sense. Should be our dm going forward and not ndidi.

At this point,I think the nwakali hype train is more of an ego trip or sentimental love than any actual non bias assessment of his abilities. Pikin fail class, repeat am 3 times still fail and person still dey talk say e get fine handwriting. Gifted abilities that hasn't been put on display consistently to a good level for over 7 years.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Diavolo: 10:24pm On Nov 14, 2024
After watching several eagles matches,I've come to a conclusion that we have a number of conundrums that we need to figure the best ways to go around them

1 - Ekong is better in a back 3 than a 2 but in a back three, we lose the midfield battle cos iwobi will be one of the two midfielder and he doesn't offer the defensive support while also killing his creativity by overworking him.
2 - iwobi is either played in a 5 man midfield or moved to the wing. If we push him to the wing on the right, then one of Moses or lookman has to bench.
3 - lookman is better as an inside forward on the left rather than a winger. If we put him there, what happens to Moses who is almost better as a winger on the left and delivers crosses that leads to goals.

Iheanacho although not in form was definitely good in the first half
he was good??. Based on what metric. He contributed nothing and dis balanced the team

Remove Lookman for Chukwueze. Someone needs to run at the defence
I agree. Someone to spread the play. That right wing is dead

So ndidi is the dm and onyedika is the cm. Would have thought AE would put them the other way round
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Diavolo: 8:37pm On Nov 14, 2024
I have never liked the idea of iheanacho and iwobi in the same line up. Has never worked right from the days of rohr. Finidi also tried it too, didn't work either. You either have one or the other cos they both don't offer enough defensive support and that's imbalances the team . Everyone sees that apart from the coaches. Just put iwobi as the right winger like he does in fulham and onyeka or onyedika in the middle and you have a more balanced team.

This osho guy is suspect. Making lots of simple mistakes with clearance and passes. Maybe it's the nerves but he needs to calm down

I'm with you on this. I think we have am exaggerated opinion of the level of our players. Apart from osihmen, lookman and Boniface who can't even play together as they are both SS who drift in from the left, maybe Calvin bassey,I don't see any other exceptional player. Ola aina, iwobi, nwabali, chukwueze are good but definitely not exceptional.
While we shouldn't be struggling against the likes of Benin and Lesotho,we are not top 3 in Africa.

You saw players making big moves but still managed to put Nwakali a mediocre player that hasn't improved with a relegated team this season

To be frank, some of you guys are no different from NFF, just clueless, daft and full of shit
I said this couple of days back, there must be something these nwakali supporters are seeing that the rest of us aren't seeing. They claim ability but that ability hasn't resulted in him being able to get a mid table club or consistent game time,so what ability is that.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Diavolo: 1:42am On Jun 16, 2024
To buttress points saying what osihmen did was extremely professional. He could have called or message finidi or pass across his points while all the curses. He definitely needs pr training if not people will start putting him in the same bracket as balotelli if he continues with actions like this.

SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Diavolo: 7:41pm On Jun 15, 2024
There must be something people see in nwakali that makes them think he is the solution to our midfield and I'm trying hard to see it. Club wise awaziem and him are in the same boat playing for relegation threatened teams and barely getting consistent game time but while we all agree awaziem should be dropped, how come we now want nwakali to be invited. If he was any better won't he have made a step up to a better team or league after all this years

Having read several pages,I have a question for @thegoodjoe. What exactly is the rationale for wanting the super eagles to play tiki taka. Considering it's obvious we don't have the technical players for it, not enough time to coaches to implement the ideas, the playing pitches are most time terrible, we probably can't afford a guardiola level coach.
Even when pep himself got to man city he had to sell almost the players he met to get new ones that are better suited to play the way he wants cos no matter of coaching can turn a mangala to Ruben dias
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Diavolo: 4:52pm On Jun 10, 2024
I wonder why findi didn't put igboke a natural lb and move tanimu into Cb to pair with bassey and osayi as Rb that way everyone plays in the best position instead of using two full backs that are playing out of position.
