Skysports.com understands Benfica star Nuno Gomes is a target for several English sides.

The Portuguese international has spent five years at Benfica and the player is believed to be considering a potential exit this summer.

The former Fiorentina hit-man is believed to have set his sights on a move to England as he is keen to try his luck in the Premier League.

The news has alerted a host of clubs who are now ready to offer the experienced striker a move to England before the close of the transfer window.

Manchester City, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough are believed to be keeping tabs on the skilful forward.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill is scouring the transfer market for reinforcements and is keen to add to his attacking options.

Manchester City are also in the market for a new forward after losing Valeri Bojinov for a number of months with a serious knee injury.

Middlesbrough could also make a move for Gomes as they look for a replacement for Everton-bound Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

Benfica are expected to decide on the striker's future before the close of the transfer window with new boss Jose Antonio Camacho set to analyse his squad.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has moved to distance himself from reports that have linked him with a switch to both Chelsea and Real Madrid.

The talented Sweden international enjoyed a successful campaign in Italy with Internazionale last season, as his side won the Scudetto.

Silverware has not, though, stopped speculation from claiming he could be set for a fresh sojourn in either England or Spain.

No desire

Ibrahimovic would certainly not be short of suitors should he become available for transfer but, for now at least, his heart remains in Italy.

"I haven't been interested to listen to other offers," Ibrahimovic stated.

"Inter want to extend (his contract) and we have discussed it. Last season, we won the Scudetto and it feels good.

"The family is fine and I am fine, it could not be better."

Liverpool have announced the signings of Spanish defender Mikel San Jose and Hungarian goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi.

Skysports.com revealed last week that Gulacsi had agreed to join The Reds on an initial 12-month loan, and the Anfield club have now confirmed the deal.

Gulacsi joins fellow countrymen Krisztian Nemeth and Andras Simon in linking up with Liverpool this summer.

Centre-back San Jose joins Liverpool from Athletic Bilbao on a three-year deal, a move which was first reported by skysports.com in June.

The young stopper is understood to have cost The Reds 400,000 euros (£270,000), and has signed a three-year contract.

Both Gulasci and San Jose will be a part of Liverpool's reserve-team squad this season.

Real Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze.

The Spanish champions have been strongly linked with the Argentine, who had been hoping to join Liverpool, in recent weeks.

Following a Premier League panel's decision to block the player's move to Anfield, Real have now stepped in with an offer.

Real have confirmed their bid has been accepted by United and Heinze will sign a four-year contract at the Bernabeu.

Heinze is expected to arrive in Madrid on Thursday to undergo a medical before being confirmed as a Real player.

Favourite

The versatile stopper joined United from Paris Saint Germain three years ago and quickly established himself as a fans' favourite.

But he was second-choice left-back behind Patrice Evra last season and had been given permission by United to leave for a suitable club over the summer.

The Red Devils were unwilling to sanction a switch to Liverpool, prompting the Premier League to look into the matter.

A panel ruled on Tuesday that the champions were within their rights to refuse Liverpool's offer for Heinze, while there were claims that the player's agents wanted to engineer a move to Rafa Benitez's side via Crystal Palace.

Lyon have confirmed they are considering moves for Manchester United duo Mikael Silvestre and Gabriel Heinze.

The French champions are desperate to fill the void left by Cris, the Brazilian centre-back who has been ruled out for six months with a knee injury.

Heinze's future remains uncertain after a Premier League tribunal ruled that he would not be allowed to move to Liverpool.

The Argentine has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and United would not stand in the way of him moving overseas.

Lyon have been linked with Heinze and coach Alain Perrin has now admitted he would be an ideal acquisition.

"We are waiting for a response about Gabriel Heinze," said Perrin.

"He really has the profile of the player we are looking for."

Like Heinze, Silvestre is no longer a first-choice starter at United and there has been speculation about his future.

Perrin commented: "His agent has made a discreet appeal to us.

"Mikael has the advantage of being a versatile left-footer as well. We must now see the conditions in which he could come."

Real link

Lyon could face competition for Heinze's signature, with reports in Spain suggesting Real Madrid are interested in the left-back.

Bernd Schuster's side are understood to want Heinze on a three-year deal and are willing to pay 12million euros (£8.1million) to secure his services.

Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is ready to switch his attentions from signing a new goalkeeper to a new striker.

Eriksson is keen to bolster his attacking options after losing Valeri Bojinov to a long-term injury.

Bojinov will be out of action for at least five months and probably longer after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage in last Sunday's win over Manchester United.

The injury has forced Eriksson to reconsider his transfer targets and he is now lining up a replacement for Bojinov as well as a couple of new midfielders.

Blow

"Work is going on in the office," Eriksson told the club's official website.

"We didn't want to have to do it but we have to look carefully at the situation because when you have a player who needs this kind of operation and rehabilitation, you can never be sure how long it takes to come back.

"To lose one player for such a long time is a big blow.

"But it is not only a striker, we need one or two midfielders as well to be covered properly."

Reports emanating from France suggest Eriksson is considering a shock move to bring back Nicolas Anelka to Eastlands.

Anelka, who spent three years at City before leaving for Fenerbahce in January 2005, has been linked with a move away from Bolton all summer.

Anelka's future at Bolton remains in doubt with the player admitting he could move on before the close of the transfer window later this month.

Portsmouth, West Ham and Manchester United have all been credited with an interest in Anelka, but now City could enter the chase for the French international.

Meanwhile, Eriksson has admitted he has put his move for a new goalkeeper on hold for the time being.

Eriksson is searching for a new goalkeeper after losing first-choice Andreas Isaksson to injury.

No move

City have been strongly linked with Livorno's Marco Amelia, but Eriksson insists no deal is imminent.

"I would say the goalkeeping situation is on ice at the moment," added Eriksson.

The two clubs have been locked in talks for the last few weeks and have now finally agreed terms.

Portsmouth and West Ham were also interested, but the player's first option was always to seal a move to Goodison Park.

Boro had been looking for £12million the 24-year-old - but they have relented and accepted a deal worth just over £11million.

Yakubu, who trained with Middlesbrough on Wednesday, is now due on Merseyside to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

The Nigerian will become Everton's record signing and if all goes according to plan he should be available to make his Toffees debut against Blackburn on Saturday.

Did anyone see that video about the crossbar challenge with arsenal players on Eurosport ?

Song showed he was a piece of crap, his shot went like 1 million miles away from the goal tongue so did Phillipe, but his shots aren't the reason why he's in the squad anyways, Walcott also missed badly.

but Almunia got his shot right and hit the bar. I think i'm liking this blond haired goalie more and more.

Obviously Flamini's nickname in the squad is 'Gattuso', the boys were cheering him on as he took his shot. Gallas is obviously the loud mouth of the group, always talking and talking and talking, he even took a bet on Flamini hitting the crossbar.

It was good to see the team spirit though, there seems to be genuine camaraderie and a good spirit in camp. Hopefully it can be translated to stronger performances on the pitch

I prefer Prisonbreak however Heroes is better than both shows. If you don't believe me checkout the top 10 at www.tv.com.
I don't think Heroes should be compared to 24 yet. The reason why Heroes has more votes than 24 or Prison Break is because its new and still fresh, give it two more seasons and we'll see where it will be in terms of popularity and ratings assuming it goes that far.

Arsene Wenger's Verdict on the Blackburn game

Dear Supporter,

I was very happy with the team and the resilience they showed in the 1-1 draw at Blackburn on Sunday. I must say we battled very hard. Of course they were frustrated because we should have come home with three points but let’s just keep that attitude for our games in the future.

We did well and we wanted to play. After taking the lead through Robin van Persie we had good chances to score the second goal many times. Overall I felt we dealt well with set-pieces and the main threat from Blackburn was long balls.

Unfortunately we conceded a bad goal when David Dunn’s shot slipped through the fingers of Jens Lehmann. Of course he was really unhappy with it and was really down in the dressing room afterwards. It was one of those occasions when I don’t need to tell him he made a mistake, he is an intelligent boy and he knows that. But we do not want to blame him today. We want to take the positives from our behaviour. Blackburn was always a difficult place to come.

One downside for us was the injury to William Gallas. Our captain hurt his groin jumping over a challenge from Roque Santa Cruz midway through the first half. When he landed and went down in pain I knew straight away what it was. Unfortunately he will be sidelined for three weeks.

After the Blackburn game I was asked about the title race. Just an hour or so earlier, Manchester United had slipped to defeat against neighbours City. I must say it looks like it will be tighter this year. I still think Man United will recover and come back. Three games is not a lot to have played. We have only played two games of course and I say again it is not a bad result to take a point at Blackburn. I am confident we will be up there this season in the title race but with whom I just don’t know at this stage.

Thanks for your support.

Arjen Robben's father is remaining hopeful the Chelsea winger will become a Real Madrid player before the end of the month.

Real have been keen on Robben all summer but have been so far unable to strike a deal with The Blues.

Bernd Schuster is still looking for one more addition prior to the transfer window closing, with Robben and Daniel Alves his top targets.

The new Spanish season gets underway this weekend and the Dutchman would be fit to feature straight away after recovering from injury.

Hans Robben, who also acts as the player's agent, wants his son to join the Primera Liga champions this month.

"It is possible that Arjen becomes a Real Madrid player, but the situation at the moment is that we do not know if he will remain at Chelsea or play in Madrid," he told AS.

"The period to sign him finishes in ten days and I hope that Madrid comes in to buy my son, but I cannot be sure.

"My son is ready to play right away because he is totally recovered."

Carlo Cudicini is unhappy with Chelsea's decision not to sanction his departure, despite the fact he spent much of last season as third choice.

The capable Italian, prior to Petr Cech's arrival at Stamford Bridge, had been rated as one of the Premier League's top goalkeepers but in the past three years he has started just 15 league games.

At 34-years-old he has now concluded that he wants to quit West London in the pursuit of first-team football, but Chelsea are refusing to let him move on.

Both Manchester City and Newcastle have been linked with an approach, possibly in a loan swoop, and Cudicini's agent, Fernando Pastorello, is far from enamoured with his present employer's standpoint.

Unhappy camper

"Carlo is not happy," he told the Daily Mail.

"He had an opportunity to leave and play a bit more but Chelsea said no.

"They told him he had to stay because there was not enough time to find a new goalkeeper to replace him.

"Carlo thinks it is time for him to play a bit more. At Chelsea he expects to be the second choice but when you get the chance to play it is something you have to be interested in."

Juan Roman Riquelme's agent claims Tottenham Hotspur have made an offer for the Argentinian playmaker.

Villarreal are willing to sell Riquelme after the player spent the second half of last season back in Argentina with Boca Juniors.

There has been interest from several clubs across Europe, but reports suggest Spurs have lodged a 15million euros (£10million) bid.

Riquelme's representative Marcos Franchi feels Villarreal should accept the offer from Tottenham, who have already spent heavily over the summer.

The Spanish side's president Fernando Roig is considering the bid and Franchi is waiting for an official response from Riquelme's current club.

Good offer

"Despite that we haven't been told anything officially, we know that Villarreal has received a very important offer from Tottenham and that the president Fernando Roig is analysing it," Franchi told Radio La Red.

"They have to make a decision before August 31, otherwise Riquelme will stay at Villarreal as there aren't any other serious negotiations.

"If nothing new appears I think that they should accept this offer as it is good for the club and the player.

"I don't think that Riquelme would be useful for Villarreal without playing.

"It would be much more useful for them to sell him so they recover what they invested in him when they bought him."
