SportsWe Don't Want Lars Lagerback As Coach Of Nigeria by dinsky(op): 11:50am On Feb 27, 2010
Who the heck is Lagerback?

Please we need explanations from the NFF why they appointed this man. What criteria was used? Why did he arrive for the interview by 12noon and got the job two hours later without NFF even holding their so called meeting.

Nigerians should stand up against this unpopular decision.NFF has taken Nigerians for a ride.We are not fools.
SportsHoddle To Be Unveiled As New Super Eagles Manager Today by dinsky(op): 12:25pm On Feb 26, 2010
http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=86

The editor of one of the top football websites in the world,Tribalfootball.com,Chris Beattie, has spoken exclusively again to allnigeriasoccer.com on Glenn Hoddle, who is expected to be announced tomorrow evening,February 26th, as the man to tinker the Super Eagles of Nigeria to the mundial .Beattie is an expert on British football and is highly regarded in the United Kingdom.

''If it can be sealed, the NFA have to be congratulated for such a creative move. Hoddle's appointment ticks so many boxes, it smacks of the ideal move for Nigeria. He has previous World Cup experience, his profile means he will win instant respect from the foreign-based players, he insists on an attractive style of football and he also will have a point to prove over the way he's been frozen out of English football since leaving Wolves almost four years ago. It's a great fit for Nigeria.

''Inside the game, Hoddle is still regarded among the best coaches in England. You only have to see the tremendous results he's had with his Spain-based youth academy to understand the qualities he will bring to the Nigeria job.
For the past two years he's been helping young players released by English clubs to get their careers back on track. Through his management and coaching, Hoddle has managed to assist a number of 'rejects' find new playing contracts - even in the Spanish Primera Liga.

''Can you imagine what he could do with the young Nigerian talent if given the chance?Hoddle's his own man, so there will be some controversy along the way. He's not afraid of making unpopular decisions and some of the older players will be looking over their shoulders if they cannot fit into his system.''

''But I really think Hoddle, with his qualities, experience and that little chip on his shoulder to prove people wrong, is someone the Nigerian football public can really embrace." Beatie told allnigeriasoccer.com.

Hoddle played alongside the great George Weah at Monaco under the tutelage of the current Arsenal coach,Arsene Wenger. He's managed Chelsea,Swindon Town,Southampton,Tottenham Hotspur,Wolves and of course England. He featured 53 times for England scoring 8 goals and is generally regarded as the most gifted player of his generation.A knee injury cut short his professional career and he retired from the game quite early.Hoddle managed England for two and a half years, after making those infamous comments about disabled people,he was axed by the FA.To this day,Hoddle insists he was misquoted by the Times of London who first broke the news.Like Amodu, the''new Nigerian manager'' who is expected to be unveiled as coach tomorrow evening is known to court faith healers. He formed a relationship with Eileen Drewery,a faith healer and took her to the World Cup in France in an official capacity.Hoddle dated Eileen Drewery's daughter when he was a teenager.
SportsWorld Exclusive:How NFF Bungled The Hiring Of Giovanni Trapattoni And Sacchi by dinsky(op): 10:22am On Feb 25, 2010
http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=81

Domenico Ricci, the ''agent'' of Giovanni Trapattoni and Arigo Sacchi, has spoken exclusively to Allnigeriasoccer.com on how the Nigerian Football Federation,NFF,bungled the appointment of a new helmsman for the Super Eagles of Nigeria. This is the first no holds barred interview he is giving any publication in the world on the Giovanni Trapattoni saga.

''South Africa 2010 is the first world cup to be hosted by the black continent of Africa. It is a real opportunity for Africa to show the world what it can do.The maturity expressed by the sons of Africa have to be confirmed by the fathers, the officers, the managers and the businessmen.Tonight's(yesterday's) Champions league game between Inter Milan and Chelsea, aptly billed as the game of the year had Drogba, Kalou, Etoo, Mikel, Balotelli, Muntari. With Essien having an injury, that is an excellent percentage and a good representation by Africa.''

''Let me introduce my self: they are writing and introducing me as the agent of Giovanni Trapattoni, Arrigo Sacchi,Roberto Mancini and Carlo Ancelotti. Not true, very wrong,I am not an agent. I started as a coach in 1986, a young man, as manager of AS Bilima, in Congo, former Zaire. Some of my players were older than me. We won the local championship and played in the African Champions Cups where we played against some of the big teams in Africa like FAR Rabat.I experienced first hand the bad organisation and the lack of technical know-how of African football. The experience was very tortuous for a young coach and it still lingers in my memory.Thirty five years later,i decided to write a book about my ordeal,"Boma Ye/Jah love",coming out on the 13 May,2010.I saw first-hand the bad pitches, sub standard balls and bad refereeing decisions.I fell in love in Africa.I have five children based in the United Kingdom.''

''When i came back to Italy, after five years in the Democratic Republic of Congo,my countrymen convinced me to change my profession and become an agent.I became a talent-scout and manager.Since that time in Italy,i have been regarded as ''the African Specialist'',a moniker that remains to this day.Two years ago,i decided to bring the Italian way of doing things to Africa;its organisation and its tactical abilities.I spoke to my very good friend,Kolo Toure, the Manchester City player, and asked him about the progress made on African football. He said things have improved.I proposed first,Carlo Ancelotti to the Ivory Coast Federation, and Ancelotti was even announcing in the newspapers that he is leading Cote d'Ivoire to the World Cup.Even without a salary,he was ready.I called the FIF chairman, who insulted me: " Why you are disturbing us? We know what we are doing, we have already a good coach.''

''After the African Cup they realized the inadeguacy of their coach and the Ivorian citizens called for the head of the coach. They called me, almost one month ago, seeking for my help and support to  help them bring Trapattoni. I replied that I promised Nigeria, Trapattoni ,and there was no way i could rescind my decision.Trapattoni himself refused the Elephants so i proposed Roberto Mancini to them. The Ivorian Federation never replied me.Mancini was willing to talk to Manchester City and seek permission to handle the Ivorians at the mundial.''

''Long time ago,i sent Trapattoni's CV to the NFF but i was told to wait for Angola 2010 to start.Trap was still shocked by the dark night in Paris where his Irish team were knocked out by a bizarre goal, after Thierry Henry had handled the ball moments before Gallas scored.Nigeria pubblished the famous "Short List": Van Gaal, Hiddink, big and small names.
I sincerely laughed at it.Presumption and ignorance of the real football. The laws of the game are difficult, selected and aristocratic. White property. There is no independence in football yet.Nigeria never had a world class coach.''

''Finally,i was able to insert Trapattoni in the short-list.The head of the Nigerian delegation that came to interview the coaches in London did not have a valid visa to Italy. They wanted Trapattoni to come to London to beg for a job.'' NO WAY''. Bruno Metsu and other influential coaches were there.Even Sven Goran Eriksson sent his manager to London.I sent an invitation letter to the Italian embassy in Nigeria, so visas could be issued to the NFF to come to Italy. They were in a hurry, they said, and had to be in London. The visa could have been issued in two days, but they rushed off to London.Trapattoni started to have doubts and became confused and started doubting the sincerity of the NFF.Hiddink and Van Gaal also started having doubts and pulled out.Trapattoni had a two year option of renewal of his contract with the Irish Federation, which he invoked. When the NFF finally decided to talk to him,he was no more available.I offered them Giovanni Trapattoni as early as last December. In footbal if you are not fast, you are dead.''

''I also received calls from Abuja and Lagos;imperative calls.''We want Arrigo Sacchi.''''If you will get Sacchi, you will see what will happen.''After so many prayers,i got Sacchi, he has his own good job, good salary and he is not a hungry man.I know how to speak to him, he has confidence in me. He said "yes"
"He has to come in London, " "No you come to Italy" "No Visa" "I cannot say to the coach that you cannot come because of a Visa"
"Ok, other officers are coming, Saturday 3 pm"
On Friday the final report: Appointment cancelled. Not possible.

Sacchi get really mad. He's a busy man.
I find justifications and I promised another date. Ok
The officer has to go to Lagos to get the Visa. Another letter of invitation.

Some of our organisation has to fly to Lagos to Abuja to get his passport. Done.
Monday, we can introduce the request. The Emabassy called Mr Arrigo that confirmed the appointment on Thursday.

The Federation has to announce the name on Friday. "We do not have time to fly to Italy. Sacchi has to come to Nigeria for the interview.

''The Visa is ready.Second appointment with the coach in Milano on Thursaday.
No money, no way. I have to call Sacchi to report again. Shame.
" If Sacchi wants the Job, he has to fly before Friday to Abuja" The final day is the 28. (Why ?)
No assurance at all. Maybe will get the job, maybe not. And what about his Visa?
Mr Sacchi Is a very sharp and exciting man. I tried to explain several times that he is not begging for a job.
So we stop here, bye bye Nigeria. Finished before it started.
Sacchi had a list of 50 players that he wanted to select for the mundial. The list included Under 20,Under 17 players and a list of local players
His staff were also ready, four persons. He had 25 tapes, prepared by me, to introduce him to his new environment.

A big chance for the country, but they missed it.
SportsGlenn Hoddle Set To Be Named New Manager Of Nigeria by dinsky(op): 11:00am On Feb 24, 2010
http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=77

Glenn Hoddle is poised to become the new manager of Nigeria. The former England boss flew to Africa last night to meet with the Nigerian Football Federation.
Hoddle, 52, has been concentrating on his Academy in Jerez, Spain, since leaving Wolves in July 2006. The Academy aims to get young players who have been released by clubs back into the game.
But it is thought that the chance to take Nigeria to the World Cup in South Africa would appeal to Hoddle, who could take the job on a short-term basis and then return to Spain to concentrate on his business venture.

Nigeria need a new head coach after sacking Shaibu Amodu after their relatively disappointing showing during the Africa Cup of Nations last month.
The two-time winners were beaten in the semi-finals by Ghana, but were awarded third place after a play-off against Algeria.
The Super Eagles face Argentina, Greece and South Korea in the group stage of the World Cup in South Africa. Hoddle, a former Chelsea, Tottenham and Southampton manager, took England to the second round of the 1998 World Cup before losing to Argentina.

He was sacked by the FA in February 1999 for his controversial spiritual views.
Sven Goran Eriksson, another former England manager, was also on the shortlist for the Nigeria job.
Eriksson has also managed at international level with Mexico and is a free agent after recently parting company with League Two side Notts County.
The Swede was due to meet with Nigerian officials later this week.
SportsI Rank Among World's Best Coaches - Amodu Shuaibu by dinsky(op): 12:51pm On Feb 22, 2010
http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=71

n a no holds barred interview, the first major one since his return from the African Nations Cup in Angola, where he led the Nigerian Super Eagles to a third place finish, embattled coach Shuaibu Amodu has lashed out at his critics who he says have tried to undermine his contributions to the Nigerian game in the last decade and a half.

The former Orlando Pirates coach, who has now been demoted to the second string side of the Nigerian national teams, has said that the politicians in the country have, in trying to use football as a means of winning the support of football crazy Nigerians, only succeeded in killing the game.
”I am a professional and not a politician. I am clean. I face people and tell them the truth, especially when it comes to my job: football. People say I am arrogant but I wonder what they are talking about. I am very confident in myself because of my knowledge of the game. I know football and, with due respect, I am an institution in this game,” Amodu told The Punch in an interview.

”It is sad that politicians have taken over the game and everybody wants to tell you what to do about your job.

”Again, people say I snub. It is the pressure of the job. I am getting older and the responsibility is getting higher so you cannot expect me to behave or react the same way as when I was coaching clubs in Nigeria.

”The expectations are high and there are many issues to manage to ensure one gets the desired results. People just misunderstand me and it hurts. I am just a realistic person. I say things as I see them because of my knowledge of the game.”

Amodu said officials of the Nigerian Football Federation met with two foreign coaches in the hotel his team stayed in during the AFCON without respecting his space and that of his players, thereby giving the team a psychological blow.

”I felt bad, especially because it was happening during a major competition, and it is bound to affect one psychologically. The NFF officials even told me about the foreign coach issue during a meeting and I was not bothered.

”Players need concentration and motivation, but these were difficult to achieve in Angola. After the first match, there were reports about NFF‘s plan to sack me. Imagine that!

”People failed to realise that I inherited this team from the lowest ebb and had to do so much work to bring back the confidence. We were getting the results and there were complaints again about many things.

”After winning the ticket to the World Cup people are still complaining, but those things are not important because I am only answerable to the NFF and I have done all I was asked to do according to the content of my contract with the NFF.

”I must admit we could have done better in Angola but the pressure affected everybody. Look at the Ghanaian team. They came to enjoy themselves at the competition because there was no pressure on the team and they did so well and played in the final.”

He tried to defend his use of players like Yakubu Ayegbeni, Seyi Olofinjana and Joseph Yobo, who were not 100 per cent fit at the beginning of the tournament, and said that he picked them on merit to quash insinuations in many quarters that they paid their way to get into the team so as to secure working permits in England.

“Yakubu Aiyegbeni is doing so well in England, scoring over 20 goals almost every season. He had an injury problem and started playing and he was fit enough for the competition. Again there was so much talk about this player, who is the most experienced striker in the team. He has good leadership qualities and he is a delight for every coach.

”Coaches know what they look out for and not just what people want to see. We all knew what people were saying about Garba Lawal but all the coaches were using him at that time.

”The injured players were certified fit for the competition. Yobo and Olofinjana were 75 per cent fit and I was okay with that because I believe they will get better as we go on. We expected a tough beginning but still believed we could play in the finals, which we did.

”There was no understanding in the defence and the players failed to mark tight, especially against Egypt [in their 3-1 loss]. I still believe we did our best to have won a medal. We deserve praise and not criticism,” he said.

To many people who said he has only been lucky to have had a good run during World Cup qualifying, in which his team did not lose any game throughout, Amodu said: “How can one be lucky for 15 to 20 years? I know this job and I enjoy doing it. Nigeria is now 15th in the world and second in Africa, but I took over when the team was not even anywhere near the top at the global level.
SportsNigeria Chase Wigan Forward,Victor Moses. by dinsky(op): 9:26am On Feb 19, 2010
http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=64

Nigeria are preparing a fresh attempt to snatch Wigan new-boy Victor Moses from under the nose of Fabio Capello.
The England Under 19 star sealed a £2.5million move to the DW Stadium in the January transfer window.
Moses has been tipped as a full England star and his Premier League move has provided him with a platform to prove his talents to national coach Capello.
But Nigeria have set their sights on trying to persuade Moses to commit to them. They failed with an initial bid to get him to turn his back on England last May. The African side are due to face Paraguay in London on March 3 and the Nigerian Football Federation are expected to name a squad of fringe players.
Nigeria, who finished third in the recent Africa Cup of Nations, have made contact with Moses about the prospect of joining that squad. He was born in Kaduna, Nigeria, but fled to England as an 11-year-old after both his parents were murdered. Despite coming through the ranks in England's junior sides, the 19-year-old forward still has strong ties with his birth country.
Nigeria hope that his past, together with the lure of a World Cup place in the summer, will be enough for Moses to pledge his allegiance to them.
But promotion to Stuart Pearce's Under 21 set-up could be enough to convince Moses to stick with England.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez will be monitoring Moses' international plans closely as he could be faced with losing the talented forward for future Africa Cup of Nations campaigns should he choose Nigeria.
SportsNigeria Drop Kanu And Yobo For Paraguay Friendly by dinsky(op): 1:30pm On Feb 18, 2010
http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=60

For next month’s World Cup warm-up against Paraguay, Nigeria will parade a far younger team than the one that featured at the recent Africa Cup of Nations following a decision to call up players not beyond 28 years of age.
This means players like skipper Nwankwo Kanu, Joseph Yobo, Danny Shittu and Seyi Olofinjana will not be involved in the Paraguay friendly slated for March 3 in London.

The technical department of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will therefore call up players from the country’s Under-17 and Under-20 teams for the London friendly.

“We have listed some very young and promising players from the age-grade teams to join those who are already in the Super Eagles, but we are only going to use players not more than 28 years for the match against Paraguay,” said deputy secretary-general of the NFF technical department, James Peters.

“We are therefore considering players like Emmanuel Sani, Fortune Chukwudi and a host of players within the 28 years age bracket.”

Players like Rabiu Ibrahim and Obiora Nwankwo from the Under-20 also have a good chance of making the squad for the Paraguay clash.
SportsPeter Taylor Snubs Nigeria by dinsky(op): 3:10pm On Feb 17, 2010
http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=52

Bradford City have appointed Peter Taylor as their manager until the end of the season. It rests speculations linking him with the Nigerian role.According to reports in the foreign media,Louis Van Gaal,Arrigo Sacchi, Dujkovic,Trapattoni and Hiddink, have all snubbed the Eagles offer.Hiddink is to resume as Turkey's new coach in August. The only two coaches left in the frame are Bruno Metsu, currently the coach of Qatar and former Zamalek player,Hassan Shetata

Peter Taylor, the former England Under-21 manager replaces Stuart McCall, who resigned last week with the club seventeenth in League Two, 12 points from the play-off places.

A club statement said they may extend the 57-year-old's contract beyond the summer but until then will consider applications from other candidates for the job on a long-term basis.

"The deal can and will be extended should both parties feel happy with proceedings between now and the conclusion of the campaign," the statement said. "The board will, however, also still exercise the option of holding interviews with other potential applicants during that period should they see fit."

Taylor, whose managerial career has included jobs at Leicester City, Hull City and Crystal Palace as well as a match in charge of the senior England side, will be introduced to the squad this morning and take control for Saturday's trip to Accrington Stanley. It will be his first game since being dismissed as manager of Wycombe Wanderers in October.
