Karabükspor's Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike is being courted to wear the national team jersey of Turkey, allnigeriasoccer.com can report.

The club president Feridun Tankut has met with the Turkey Football Federation Vice President to discuss Emenike's switch to the national team of Turkey. The two parties discussed at length and there are positive signs that Emenike will turn out for the national team.

The Nigeria left back,Taye Taiwo is dragging his feet in training.A year before the end of his contract at French Champions,Marseille,the ex Gabros defender is facing competition from Gabriel Heinze for a starting slot in defense.Taiwo is fishing for a move outside the Velodrome and a bid by Atletico Madrid was turned down by Marseille.

Victor Okechukwu Agali scored on his league debut this afternoon as his new Chinese club,Jiangsu Shuntian lost 1-2 away to Liaoning Hongyun at the Shenyang Tiexi Stadium.

Agali opened his goal account for the club in the 36th minute but Hongyun scored two quick goals in the second half through Andrezinho(59th) and Cheng Xing (68th) to win the game.

Jiangsu Shuntian remain in 13th place with 14 points and are behind leaders,Shanghai Shenhua with 10 points.

Inter Milan's President,Massimo Moratti has promised the Nigerian super-teen,Haruna Lukman to the new Inter Milan coach,Rafa Benitez.Haruna has a contract with Monaco that expires 2012 and has been capped 5 times by Nigeria.

Moratti sees Haruna as a top summer transfer target and is ready to make funds available for the youngster.Haruna is needed to strengthen an aging Inter midfield with the likes of Cambiasso,Stankoviä† and Thiago Motta.

The U17 international striker enjoyed successful trials at both Chelsea and Tottenham this year, but has seen a dream switch to the Premiership fall through.

Arsenal  are watching the Torino defender Angelo Obinze Ogbonna.Ogbonna has played for the Italian Under 21 side and is regarded as the best player in the squad.

He was called up to the Super Eagles for the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers and for a friendly against France last June, but has yet to commit his future to Nigeria.

Turin sources say Arsenal are showing serious interest in Ogbonna as manager Arsene Wenger prepares for massive changes to his centre-half stocks.He's previously been linked with Manchester City.

Vassilis Torosidis is a phenomenon of Greek football. The 24-year-old is hugely versatile and regularly plays in different positions both for his club and country. Boasting great energy, a willingness to get forward and strong heading ability, the Olympiacos star is a manager's dream as he can fill in all over the park.

Predominantly an attack-minded right-back, Torosidis has exclusively played on the left side of defence for the Greek national team. Although predominantly right-footed, he has a strong left peg and as a result can cover any position along the backline and in midfield.

In midfield, his strongest position is as a defensive or central midfielder and he has also been used far higher up the pitch, most notably this season under Brazilian coach Zico when he was played behind the strikers.

This versatility could be problematic for Torosidis in the coming years but thanks to his stubborn and fearless play he cannot be left out of the starting XI for either club or country. He was transferred to Olympiacos in January 2007 and managed to take over the right-back position with solid performances. The 24-year-old relishes the physical battle, in which he usually triumphs. Torosidis is well built, 6ft 1in tall and very strong, he has an aggressive playing style and he rarely loses physical battles in defence. When he plays at the back he is a threat not only running from a deep position but also at set-pieces where he displays remarkable heading ability.

Running at the opposition, Torosidis also displays great technique on the ball. He is a good passer with both feet and the quality of his attacking play was demonstrated most notably by a glorious chip against AEK Athens in September. He scored a brace in a 2-1 win with his other goal scored with his head.

As can be expected of such a quality player who would boost any manager's options, Torosidis has been scouted by a large amount of top European clubs and a transfer to another Champions League side is inevitable. He is contracted to Olympiacos until the end of the 2012/2013 season and currently has a release clause of seven million euros.

The list of clubs linked is long and includes: Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Bologna, Celtic, Marseille and Parma. During the most recent transfer window, Torosidis was said to be on his way to Liverpool and a move to the Premier League would suit his bustling playing style and strength in the air.

Last year Torosidis admitted: "To tell you the truth, I grow tired of this noise, I have been listening to it from the first six months after I joined Olympiacos." To further fuel the rumours he added: "I believe there isn't a Greek who doesn't want to play abroad. Whoever doesn't admit it is lying."

In 2009/2010, Torosidis has continued to improve. His campaign was cut short by around six weeks due to a knee injury but he is closing in on his best goal scoring season since arriving at Olympiacos.

Nigeria has dropped one place in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking just released.The country now occupies the 22nd position.African powerhouse,Egypt are up three places to 14th position from their previous 17th position.

Spain continue to lead the way ahead of Brazil and the Netherlands, but there is considerable movement in the lower half of the top ten: Portugal (4th, up 2) have overtaken Italy (5th, down 1) and Germany (6th, down 1), while England (7th, up 1) continue to climb the global ladder and have swapped places with France (8th, down 1). Croatia (10th, up 1) have returned to the top ten after a two-month absence.

Australia (19th, up 4) have leapt into the top 20 following their victory over Indonesia during qualification for the AFC Asian Cup 2011. Among the top 50 teams, Norway (24th, up 9) and Turkey (35th, up 6) have also made significant ground thanks to their wins over 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa participants in early March: Norway got the better of Slovakia, while Turkey emerged triumphant over Honduras.

The Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi admits the team need to "fight" if they are to keep their hopes of winning the league and FA Cup alive.

Chelsea are third in the league and four points off leaders Manchester United, albeit with a game in hand, following their 1-1 draw with Blackburn yesterday when, Mikel admits, Chelsea made some basic errors to allow the hosts back into the game.

The draw was the second disappointing result of the week for Chelsea following their Champions League exit to Internazionale last Tuesday.

"We are all professionals and when things are not going well we mustn't be down," said Mikel. "This is when we need everyone to show support and to be together; team, fans and coaching staff, and hopefully we can put things right by the end of the season.

"It has been really difficult but the manager has been there for us and we all are sticking together. We have a game against Portsmouth [on Wednesday] and we have to go there and win."

Asked if it was up to the players to prove they deserved to stay at the club, Mikel replied: "I think if we keep going like this then it is down to that. But we have to fight as a team, not as individuals."

Roman Abramovich's appearance at Chelsea's training base last week had led to speculation about the nature of his remarks to the players, but Mikel said the owner "just came to show support".

"We still have the Double to win and that's what he came to assure us," the player told the Evening Standard. "He's a football fan and understands but at the same time he wants us to put things right.

Former Falcons player, Maureen Mmadu has revealed exclusively to Allnigeriasoccer.com that she is not about to end her self imposed exile from the female national team.

''I wasn't well treated by the Sani Lulu led NFF.We were poorly treated.They reduced our win bonus from $2,000 to $400.It is not really a question of money for me but what of the young players who have got nothing.Yinka Kudaisi who was part of us(the famous Sweden trio who got sacked by their clubs for honouring a national invitation) was left abandoned in Nigeria,uncared for by the NFF.I thank God for everything,i was able to get a good club after that.''

''I arrived from Nigeria last week for pre-season training,where i went to spend my holidays.I recently changed clubs.It is one of the top female clubs in Norway-Kolbotn.I was courted by several clubs but i settled for them.They are a big club with four international players and they came third in the league last season.'' the soft spoken and humble Maureen told allnigeriasoccer.

''Presently,i am setting up an academy in Anambra State for both boys and girls.I want to give back to the society because i was once like them.It is going to be a very big project.I and my management team are looking for sponsors to achieve this goal.'' she said.

Edwin Lars Lagerback's first official assignment with the national team was to discuss the state of affairs of the national team with the team skipper,Nwankwo Kanu over dinner.His shocking appointment is generating ripples even in his home land because he is known for a defensive approach to football.The Super Eagles have so many flair players and are an attacking force.The choice of Lars Lagerback was a bomb - not just for the football world and the more well-known candidates - but also for the team's stars.

A member of the NFF called Obafemi Martins,Wolfsburg late last week and he was very surprised of the appointment.

The latest edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking reveals two changes of position in the top ten, as well as the return of a team that were European champions not so long ago.

Spain continue to lead the way ahead of Brazil and the Netherlands at the top, but further back Germany (5th, up 1) and Portugal (6th, down 1) swap places, as do England (8th, up 1) and Argentina (9th, down 1).

Greece (10th, up 2) also return to the top ten for the first time since June 2008. Their fortunes are in sharp contrast to those of Egypt, last month’s major movers. The CAF Africa Cup of Nations winners fall seven places and are now in 17th place. The Pharaohs are still the highest-placed African team, however, just ahead of Cameroon (20th), Nigeria (21st) and Côte d’Ivoire (22nd).

The majority of changes in this month’s ranking are due to the devaluation of results from last year. Korea DPR (102nd, down 17) have fallen significantly, for example, due to the devaluation of their victory over Saudi Arabia in a 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifying match last year.

Teams inside the top 50 that have benefited from the devaluation of past results include Serbia (13th, up 6), Slovenia (27th, up 6) and Slovakia (31st, up 5). Two teams – Montenegro (71st, up 1) and the Comoros Islands (175th, up 1) – are currently in their highest-ever position on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking.

Thirty-one matches, all friendlies, have been taken into account in this edition of the Ranking, taking the total number of international 'A' matches played so far in 2010 to 98.

More movement can be expected in the next edition of the ranking as a considerable number of matches will be played on 3 March, a date reserved for friendly matches in the international match calendar. It is an opportunity for many teams, not just those who have qualified for South Africa 2010, to make progress in the ranking.
