On a more serious note, I hope this reduces the menace of farmers-herders wahala.

Calm down. Soon it will be 6 months ago I was expecting message from TLS lol 😂.

No message about rejection after sometime means likely positive outcome.

Good morning house
Please I kind of need an advice from y’all in the Uk
I’m a software developer (mobile app developer) in Nigeria with two years of experience and I currently earn about 500k.
I started making plans on coming to the Uk via study route and I’m currently in the stage of applying for my visa. I have been very optimistic about this but last night I spent a long time thinking about it as I’m really worried about the situation I read about the Uk and where they stand with immigration.

I have been following this thread for months to understand what it’s like over there and I really hope I get a response. Thanks in advance 🙏🏾
As a tech person that moved to the UK recently, I'll say it's not worth it. At least from my experience so far.

It's hard to get tech jobs here if you need sponsorship. And being on a student visa further limits you.

You should try Canada.

Make sure you get enough money to pay your fees. It's impossible to hustle in the UK and pay.

Is it advisable to remove my money before the visa expires?
I don't know your specific situation, but you can move the money to a service like Payoneer and access it from anywhere without even converting the currency.

I think you need to change or expand your circle of friends and associates. I know many many people who work in those scenarios you described above. Some of us even got the jobs while still on student visa and employers had to reservethe roles for us, some with sponsorship even. And I know people who got the Global Talent visa even from Nigeria. One thing I keep telling people is there are plenty of opportunities in this land. They don't come easy of course, but with tenacity and open mind, they are absolutely reachable.

not just talented immigrants, there are lots of talented locals and immigrants already here, but the opportunities are not there like they used to be. someone a few pages back was asking about prince2. I remember a few years back, have prince 2 certification and say you have primavera P6 experience, you will almost always get an interview every other week/month.
I feel so too. In this town I'm staying, office spaces are empty, young able men are either painters, plumbers or roof repair guys. There's probably less work for scientists, engineers and tech professionals right now.

Good points you made.
Even ‘gooder’ is the fact that the UK actually already actively have visa regimes to cater for these very vital sectors. So you see, the routes are already there. Just waiting to be explored and filled by immigrants.
Who is filling the role? UK firms that won't hire people on graduate visa?

I saw an entire thread on LinkedIn where graduate visa holders were begging that people take a chance on them. It will be nice to see some success stories about students that came here around 2022 and are now working at British firms not as cleaners.

Like I've said about tech nation, I don't know 1 Nigerian techie that came here on that visa and isn't feeling like their career slowed down. I can specifically name one tech influencer from Nigeria that's almost becoming a ghost of her self now since moving here.

Maybe in the past, when una japa, this place get plenty opportunities, hopefully there are better days ahead of UK and doing the most with talented immigrants.

ReesheesuKnack:
Exactly!
The country needs scientists and engineers: the govt introduced HSMP visa which metamorphosed into Global Talent Visa.

The country need(ed) Care Workers: A care worker visa was introduced (with care worker CoS subsequently sold on eBay & Temu @ Harrods prices.

The country needed Tech talent: Global talent (Technation) Visa was introduced.

The country needed Nurses: The NHS agents & recruiters set up tents in Abuja & Manilla & imported hundreds, nay, tens of thousands of Nurses from Phils & Naija …

The country needed masons & bricklayers: These were added to the shortage occupation list.

The country needed fresh graduates, they reintroduced 2 year post study visa.

The country needed Teachers in STEM subjects: They opened up a route.

The country needed medical doctors: We now all hear & know about PLAB 1, PLAB 2. An NHS trust/GP practice is never complete if there is no Dr Patel or Dr Singh or Dr Oluwole or Dr Ademola or Dr Gurung or Dr Thapa or Dr Rajakpase or Dr Ganeshwaran.

I think the country has tried, and is trying.
To reply to Tech Nation, Graduate visa and the engineers you talk about.

I know a few rising tech stars from Naija wey don japa come dey live slightly quieter here.

Many graduates MSc. and PhD that won't be employed in professional roles because of the graduate visa.

Engineers, even person wey been dey work with shell for Naija dey manage warehouse work for here now. Omo, from my small experience here so far, so much more can be gotten from talented immigrants if anyone is willing to take a chance on them.

It’s pure data, Greater Manchester is the second biggest economy in the UK. So statistically there would be more jobs, it’s that simple.

Thar someone you knew got or didn’t get jobs doesn’t invalidate that as that could be skewed by personal experiences.
But he was told you reality that's based on what's really on ground for the specific case of students with only 20 hours. Abi the data you're linking to only covers students too?

Instead of quoting one by one, let me just answer here.

She's a student.
Actually shifts have not been forth coming so it looks like she's trying to save for the next fees for fear of the unknown.

I'm willing to pay the 6 months contract I will sign. I was hoping there'll be another approach beside this alternative rent and dialogue (which I have exhausted).
My oga, to be African no easy. Too much sense of entitlement from people that might be able to see that you didn't get to where you're now by being entitled.

Maybe go over getting another place again, if she mention fridge again, just quickly tell her you have gotten 1 and continue with other steps for finalizing the move.

I agree with the person that said calling family meeting might not help. E fit be her words against yours.

You don't necessarily have to be her guarantor at the new place nor sign the contract in your name. You probably know this as you're more experienced here.

Wish you all the best.
