I just want to share some experiences and advice too. Am in my second breeding and I must confess I made mistake and miscalculations...pls to all intending farmers, don't look at the mathematical calculation and profit oo, only rear the amount you can feed only and practical and field work matters too. I overstock my tank with fishes and it has screwed down my finance and wallet. All of these was because I didn't know how much it cost to feed certain amount of fish to maturity. I still struggle to get feed for them cos I can't see dem feed on themselves nor see dem malnourished all cos of the passion I have for the business. I have accepted my loss...though I might not get back my capital bt I want to rear and sell dem off even at lose. It's part of the experience for me.

@robonski15 made mentioned of buyers using juju and others wanting to buy on credit. I have experienced it oo. I sold second batch (700-900g) of my fishes to this fish market woman for N500 per kg. She buys 10kg every 2 days cos she is new to the area and don't have where to keep the left overs after business day. At first she was paying cash, later on she want me to sell credit and I declined. I told her even where I milled my feed, if it remain N1 they won't let me carry my feed and as such I can't sell credit considering my losses so far. I sell and use the money to get new feed.

Sometimes she wd come empty hand to ask me to sell to her on credit and I noticed the way she looks at me, she want to use her eyes to hypnotise me when we have eye contact, I would feel like giving her the fishes on credit bt wd later come back to my senses and stick on my ground that I don't sell credit oo...she wears black powder on her eye lid...I don't even look at eyes when I talk to her haha make her juju no get me.

It has been a rough road so far...I know there is a better tomorrow and I won't give up...my third breeding would be a success cos I know the do and don't.

More so, the last feed I did, I introduced Meramet. It is a highly protein source I spoke about in my recent post. I was told by my feed miller that 5kg of the Meramet is for 1tons feed. They would the maths for any kg feed u want to do. Happy farming

As time went on, I was adapting to the torture and pains of being an illegal immigrant in Kuala Laum. All of us in the dustbin house would hustle each day before we could eat. Sometimes no food at all. We go for up to 3 days before anything like food can even enter our mouth. No be say na better food sef, just carrot. In that hotel Plan B, majority of the food, delicacies, cuisine they prepare are done with carrot. Left over are majorly dumped at the waste unit close to the dustbin house I stay. Na so we go dey hustle to chop ordinary carrot. Sometimes we would wait oooo for days and no leftover would be brought to the waste bin. Hunger go dey fry us like fish. We would wait to hear a sound of waste bin been opened so we could rush to go fetch leftover food. At a time I was tired of the whole thing because all my mouth was full of sores. Chewing carrots almost everyday was giving me injuries. My left side cheeks had swollen.
Sometimes we just pray for Sunday to come because that was the only day I noticed that the police doesn’t disturb us concerning movement, depending on the area one is. Every Sunday, we go to a church close to us because they usually share bread and tea at the church. All of us in the dustbin house don’t miss their service because of the bread and tea we are given. Na so me and my guys will be rushing for tasteless and their tea. I noticed most of the members who are Malaysians are not even rushing or eating the tea and bread. Na only we blacks dey chop the church tea and bread. But I no send.
This particular Sunday, hunger don do us something. We had not eating for 2 days and had not taking our bath for 3 days. Thank God we managed to get water which we had to beg one of the hotel staff to open the tap close to our house. Na there we see water take bath. After bathing, we headed to the church service early enough so we could meet up with the tea and bread breakfast session. After the church service, after loading our stomachs with 7 slice of bread and a litter of tasteless tea each, we headed home.
2 hours later, we were having uncomfortable sleep in our dustbin house when we began hearing gunshots. I didn’t even know were it was coming from. But the sounds were heavy enough to predict that it was close by. The room was so congested. Each and everyone of us were scared. Siren was blowing hot. “Bang bang bang” we heard a knock on the door. Na so fear catch everybody ooooo. I couldn’t move an inch. Some of the guys opened the windows. Na so them begin fly comot from widow. But I don’t know what to do before going through the window would be linking me to a minor underground linking to the major roads and streets. I don’t even know if police officers are already there waiting to get us. The voice from outside was screaming louder, “open this door now,” with an Asian accent. The only thing on my mind there was making heaven. I remembered my mother, father and sisters all my siblings. My imaginations were running wild. My thoughts, “if I die, what would my soul be off. How would God judge me? Maybe as a disobedient child who didn’t listen to his parents?” “chaii na so my life take end?” I thought again to myself as the bang on the door became more intense. Many of the guys were jumping out through the window, but fear no gree me do that, because I don’t know what would befall me at the other side. Soji gently moved close to the door and opened it gently. Immediately he opened it, about 4 police officers just barged in with guns. How they discovered that place we were, no one knew. Before I could say “Hovabuzz,” they started hitting us with guns. And we were over 30 the police officers met inside. I was on the floor when I heard, “Poa , Poa, Poa,” gunshots. 3 guys were already on the ground. The police shot them dead while they had tried to escape. They arrested all of us, carried us with a big van. We were packed like sardine to an unknown place that looked like desert. There was houses like that looked like cells. I had only seen that kind of area in Hollywood films. I saw it as a huge detention center because it has barb wires that demarcated each section. We were left in one big room for 2 days without food nor water. No one came to attend to us or opened the door. We were locked inside the place. I had already given up, that I would be killed. But the third day that the place was opened, officers who were wearing mask was what we were seeing. The officers were kitted, with mask on their faces carring guns. As they opened the place, they took us. By then, I knew it was over. We would be killed. We got to the entrance of the detention center, they covered our faces with black cloth. Some people began crying, while some started singing. I noticed one of the voices who was singing “Anointing fall on me.” It was funny but at that moment, it wasn’t. With the black vale on our faces and handcuff on our hands. We couldn’t see, we were only taken as we matched as we walked about 3 minutes and the vale was removed from our face. ‘Na desert I come dey see abi my eyes dey deceive me?’ I thought to myself. Because I looked back and I could only see the big gate of the detention cell. I was thinking it was the place they want to kill us when I heard, “Ok black monkeys, you all can go. You are free.” The officer who spoke was wearing a mask on his face. Or maybe I didn’t hear well. “Did they really ask us to go or they are just joking” I thought to myself. The officers told us to go. But I began wondering were we are going. They set us free inside a desert. Instead of them to take us back to were we where arrested, rather they brought us to desert to set us free. At first I was kind of happy but the way we began looking at the officers that asked us to go and the way they were doing the favour was suspicious. I felt there was another gender they had. They began shouting on us to go, infact run. And we began running but with double mind. Na me be the first person wey start to dey run. Without food and water for about 2 days with that kind of punishment. But I don’t know what kind of energy that came into me that I found myself ahead of others as we ran. Before we could run up to 5 minutes, we started hearing gunshots. Something in me told me not to look back, that I should just keep running. I kept running, but at a time the gunshots were heavy and intense that I began wondering if the officers were just wasting bullets. I turned back and saw the officers on masked face chasing at us.

Malaysian police won't kill illegal immigrants...that is a big lie. Why don't u rebuff tat claim?. The worst they wd do to u is maltreat u wen u r apprehended, take u to balai (station) and verify if u r legal or not and if ur illegal, they hand over u to immiga who then take u to their depot for deportation and mind u, u have to provide for ur deportation ticket or else u languish in their jail.

I like ur spirit. You av always been very optimistic and its good. Well thank God you are now a practicing fish farmer and about to enter d 'real' world of selling. You will get to see that even selling at N480 or N500 per kilo in Lagos can be very difficult and getting buyers can equally be very tasking (depending on the sizes of ur fish and ur location though) . Im talking frm experience bcoz i sell fish on a very regular basis. I say the story of fish farming as it is and not the fairy tale side of it. I was able to make bulk sales of my fish ytday at N550 and N530 per kilo. Dats not always the case, but im sure wt ur optimism u shd be able to sell at similar price. Plz do let us know how it goes wt sales of ur fish when u harvest. It will help a lot of other aspiring fish farmers.

#but biko, ejo, plz reconcile wt dat guy and involve him in getting good buyers for u. He doesnt av to be in charge of ur fishes any more. The more options of buyers u av, the better. I really need those his buyers of N600 per kilo

Another problem we face in the business is at point of sale. I don't buy the idea of meeting all those fish seller and telling them you have fish for sale. Since u went to meet them wt ur 2 legs, they would under price it ehn...nt like the reverse case. Oga abeg, I want to knw hw u approach this fish marketers cos for me, they tend to under price and there is no way I can bid higher cos I went to meet them and not reverse. The feed now are so expensive and I think selling at N480 is not a good bargain at all..N530 or N550 should be the current price...How I wish we have union and a uniform price tag...God help us.

Please what is the name of the poultry protein meal? Is it available at the poultry feed stores?

Poultry protein meal is what I was told and on my invoice which state all ingredients of items they sell, I can see an ingredient name W.Offal and my research on Offal is related to poultry I guess that's the protein meal.

My research on Offal...Offal means the internal organ remove from chicken during slaughter, they r grounded and milled in powered..u can do a Google research too on poultry protein meal.

I was also told by my local feed miller that the poultry protein meal is rich in protein and it cost N5k for a 5kg which is used to mix 1 tonne of feed. U can ask ur local poultry store for any protein meal they use for their feed which is rich in protein.

My Oga dem in the house, would there be any side effect on the fishes if protein meal in their feed is much?

I was told I shd introduce Semo to substitute the Indomie. Have you heard abt the poultry protein meal? My research online shws it contain 82% of protein and can be used for aquaculture. I am thinking of introducing it in my next formula and drop the 65% for 72% fish meal. So I wd be having 72% fish meal and 82% protein meal...Wish would aid quick and fast growth.

They r 4-5 month and I also feed it to 2 month old fish too and they pick it (only doing this due to lack of finance to purchase the 72% feed meal).

I also made some research on higher protein for aquaculture and I noticed Poultry protein meal (Hydrolyzed Poultry Feather Meal) is very high in protein 81% and it's also used in aquaculture.

I guess this is the protein meal I was introduced to by my local feed meal. I hope to add it in my next formula and see how fast my fish grows.

Yeah, thats d major problem associated wt local feed. I also experience it sometimes . Alot of residues, water pollution and the likes. Make sure they grind the ingredients very well for u. Also fishes dnt digest carbohydrates well, dey pass out alot as waste and d water smells coz d waste ferments. What formula are you using?

I have been using local feed wt the formular from this thread. I wd admit it is cost saving and I have the option to dictate the amount of protein I want it to have. But i notice the byproduct comes wt a lot of shaft residue and also my gutter pact is filled with human-like faeces. I have to use water to flush the gutter pact cos it smells if left to remain there. Do anyone experience this? I also noticed the water get polluted fast.

Also, I went to the local feed mill to complain abt the shaft residue I see in my tank and they said it might be the feed composition. I was also advice to add poultry feed protein (forgotten the name though) I was told one 5kg can be used for one ton of feed and it's rich in protein so and if I want to prepare a 80kg feed, I wd need 0.4kg which would cost 500Naira...and I can use 0.8kg to supplement 72% feed mill and I can also add 72% to aid quick growth.
