gbemiclassic: Dear xxxxx
Further to our last e-mail, this is to reiterate that the Assessment Centre for the FirstBank 2017 GT Programme is still on-going.
While the candidates who were successful in their Assessment Centre are now being contacted by the Bank, in phases, for documentation and on-boarding, the Assessment Centre for those who are yet to be invited will resume in due course.
We realise that you have not yet been invited to the Assessment Centre, so this is to assure you that the process is still in progress. Please continue to check your e-mail regularly.
Rest assured that you will be given the opportunity to be assessed.
Another dose of chill pill taken. Just got the mail this morning. beautiful, this settles everything |

BukolaSuccess: Really? How sure are you?? Suspense hurts... FBN TS is always in batches. The AC itself was conducted in batches. Majority of those who went for documentation today and will go tomorrow did thier AC between 1st and 15th of July, if I'm not mistaken. I'm yet to see anyone called from the latter stages. |

cloud9usher: To the words in bold, you are very correct! Here in Nigeria, KPMG and PwC are higher in recognition as compared to Deloitte but on the world scene Deloitte is the biggest of the "Big four" in the world, they have the largest revenue and the largest workforce. So I was talking about Deloitte's international recognition. Check more here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Four_accounting_firms
You are very correct as well in regards the pressure that comes with working with the Big four, like I earlier said, its a very competitive environment and its for those who want a challenging career and believe they have the capabilities to achieve it.
As regards salary, I have heard of tax analysts salaries at Deloitte that come within the range of 2.4M to 2.6M per annum and hence my 210K salary range, it might be not exactly that amount but it would surely be in that region, and for sure Deloitte would pay higher than First bank entry level.
Thank you for your addition, you sure have competent knowledge as regards the matter at hand. cheers bruh! |
Jobs/Vacancies › Re: 2016 Firstbank Graduate Trainee Programme by dkingskid: 1:30am On Aug 30, 2017 |
cloud9usher: First of all, I presume your comparison is between entry level positions like: audit analyst/tax associate positions at Deloitte as compared to First Bank entry level right?
First bank is sure one of the best places to have a career in Nigeria but Deloitte stands out above First bank in everything I must say! Deloitte is more internationally recognised and working for a company like Deloitte gives you the privilege of networking with colleagues in other countries like the USA, Europe because you are directly infused as being part of the global workforce.
Haven't you ever heard about the "Big four" accounting firms in the world? Namely they are: Deloitte, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young. Deloitte tops them all and has the biggest revenue and largest workforce in the world. So there is NO COMPARISION in international recognition with First bank. Having "Deloitte" on your CV alone is a sure head-turner in the professional world, go to Switzerland or Holland; Hong Kong or Canada, and mention "Deloitte" and you'd be given attention, but apart from Nigeria, very few people know about First Bank.
Deloitte pays more as well, after training school FBN pays around 150K while entry level for Deloitte is at least 210K and increase of salary is WAY FASTER as well as promotions at Deloitte.
Also, at Deloitte if you are in audit unit you'd be placed on direct ICAN path and you'd be fully supported financially right from the start to achieve it. At First bank, such only comes at a need basis after appraisals and review of need.
Deloitte is more competitive career wise and if you want a real challenge which you think you have the capabilities to achieve then Deloitte is for you. Yes, work stress is higher at Deloitte as you might give away some weekends and all, but Deloitte's awesome holiday plans and work-leisure allowances would surely make up for the extra stress you give in to the competitive lifestyle at Deloitte.
Most banks have their auditing done by auditing firms like Deloitte so you should know what that means. Even when you are hearing about stuff like "World richest football clubs" and all, who do you think audits such? You guessed right! - Deloitte is responsible for that.
I'm really surprised you are confused here because Deloitte is not on the same level with First bank in anyway, I'm a First bank GT 2017 hopeful but I'd tell you the truth, and if I had the opportunity of getting into any of the "Big four" I wouldn't think twice, circumstances, time et al might make it difficult for me to get an opportunity working with Deloitte like you but no regrets though, I'm still grateful to God for being a First bank GT hopeful because First bank is still one of the best places to work in but you on the other hand have the luxury of even something better, make sure you make the best choice, I wish you all the very best! Nice post as usual, but permit me to add a few points. Deloitte is definitely internationally recognized worldwide, but not as much in Nigeria, as they are currently the least of the big 4 (revenue and staff strength). Not in pay tho, as entry level staffs are paid higher than their colleagues in KPMG and EY, but also not as high as PwC (after confirmation), and definitely not over 200k. The major difference comes in form of allowances, that's the area where banks pay better than these consulting firms, and at the end of your stay in any of the bIG 4s, you walkway with nothing other than what you have saved personally. Promotion like you said is strictly based on performance and is on a yearly basis. So there's a faster opportunity of career growth and a rich learning process. One important thing to note however is that in any of the BIG 4s, you'll be given a period of time to get chartered (usually 3 attempts per stage) or 3 to 4 years, depending on your course of study, failing which you'll be asked to resign. This is the added pressure that comes with the job, as you'll have to find a perfect balance between getting to know your job and being good at it, and also getting your certification within the period of time specified. However, with commitment and dedication, this is very achievable. In summary, its a good place to start ones career and I'll go with your advise |

cloud9usher:
Cut the dude some slack please!
I'd like to congratulate everyone who has gotten documentation invitation, and to those of your who have conducted your AC and not gotten your documentation invite and are already getting a little bit worried, please don't be.
Like I said weeks ago, this whole thing would be in batches, and passing the aptitude test was the biggest feat you achieved on your way to working with First Bank, as long as you did your AC to a 50% pass level (which I know at least 75% of us did) you are assured that you would make it into First Academy, the only thing is that the waiting periods would defer between a lot of us, yours truly has not gotten his own documentation invitation yet as well and I'm happy I wasn't selected for documentation this week because I couldn't have made it due to my present engagements.
I'm so happy documentation invites have started coming out as planned, this means we are on track again and unnecessary delays have been eliminated.
Big congrats again to all my prospective FBN staff who got documentation invites, all the best guys! thanks bruh, and all the best to you too. |

mayoor15: For those yet to get the mail, why not wait patiently, first bank doesn't recruit annually, the last recruitment was in 2013 which lasted till April 2015 with a total of 5 training schools, February 2014, March 2014, August 2014, October 2014 and April 2015. This 2016 recruitment also will be in batches, everyone can't go in at the same time, this is only the first batch and won't be the last, while waiting, keep doing what you've been doing to play away time. Congrats to the first set of TS hopefuls, the journey is about starting, get ready..... thanks bruh, i actually knew this but needed someone else to say it, just to kam d navs |

i was gon make a comment abt the guy who wrote before you, but on reading this, there was nothing else to add. Thanks for this beautiful post. cloud9usher: Jalamoh1 you really took your time to drop this bomb to have a voice and your voice would surely be heard. But before I go on, your claim of defrauding FBN is an appalling act and you should be ashamed of your pathetic and greedy self to say the least!
Well, I have first hand experience about a lot of things you said about First bank, especially the ill treatment of service executives; in as much as FBN service executives are nothing compared to those in banks like GTB as regards pay and all, I would say its a general thing all over Nigeria. I would talk more on this issue not particularly to FBN contract staff but by the general outsourced/contract staff issues we have in a lot of firms in Nigeria.
Nigerians generally love to ride on the lower people in whatever class or situation, that's why you see rich folks wanting to be the only ones who have the big generators in the area so their rich status can be felt. Its a Nigerian thing, its a social malfunction trait in us.
Outsourcing in other countries is not that bad, its just a way for firms to save cost and all, but here in Nigeria outsourced staff are basically slaves and are treated with disdain, that's so wrong!
Nigerian management team of firms take advantage of the situation of high unemployment and milk graduates dry of their efforts and reduce them to nothing all in the name of finding daily bread. Back then in 1998, I remember how my elder ones and uncles who graduated with 2:2's and 2:1's from the university making choices from lots of job offers like a kid in a candy shop , top firms all over the country gave them jobs, some companies even paid for your transport fare to come for interviews, this got me encouraged to make sure I finish secondary school and get into University so I can be successful like my uncles and elder ones. But what is the case today? Millions of graduates with 2:1's and first class degrees can't even get a 20k a month job, how sad!
Core staff in banks scold contract staff like they are dogs, and treat them with no regard, this shouldn't be so. I promised God I would never be part of core staff who act this way towards contract staff when I get fully into FBN as a management staff.
More than 50 percent of girls who work as contract staff in banks got their jobs through sexual favours, and then when they get the jobs they still are obliged to give sexual favours to core staff that are randy and licentious, such men have the time of their lives having these ladies do whatever they want to make sure their jobs are kept floating.
But I'd like to correct one thing, contract staff make it seem like all of the work is done by them, that's not true, I have experience as a contract staff but I will state the truth, not just for the sake of truth but because I'm enlightened about what I'm saying. Bank contract staff feel because they do more of the monotonous and mundane tasks they feel they do more work, its not, yes they are not paid enough but to some degree, core staff are still more needed.
Core staff make policies and strategic decisions that decide the constant growth and progress of the bank, the contract staff that counts money at the counter is not more important than the risk management executive who makes sure the bank operates on a healthy risk lending criteria and all, I can bring a lot of examples here to buttress my point but I would stop here.
And I commend FBN for including service executives in this present GTP so they can be converted to core staff, service executives conducted AC along other non banking experienced candidates recently so I think you need to cut FBN some slack on the accusation of never converting contract staff to core staff, at least its evident FBN is converting now; with respect to this years' GTP as an example.
Finally, all I would say is that if you are a contract staff, strive for the best, never settle for your present level, keep getting more knowledge, apply for better jobs and don't stop dreaming; dream big, you'd surely get there if you are determine and focused. |

thanks fam, you're the best! see u in training school cloud9usher: You'd start with your group discussion, make sure you are audible and make sure you give valid points to the discussion and make sure you take down notes of every thing discussed because you will need it all through the assessment.
For the logical and numerical reasoning, try and be VERY FAST in this section, they deliberately include impossible to answer questions in there to waste your time, immediately a question is taking more than 50 seconds then leave it and move to the next, you have barely one minute for every question, just 20 minutes to answer these questions.
For the presentation I have discussed that already above.
You'd write an essay as well as I have explained above.
Then there is an panel interview as well, be confident and cover all basic interview questions but make sure you prove that you would be an ASSET to First bank in regards to what you can bring to the table, then also know all about First bank so you can give you take on this if asked.
Then lastly, please dress to impress, appearance matters as well and there are points attached to that as well. Also, psyche yourself that the AC is not some difficult thing and prepare for it well and you would turn out enjoying the whole thing, I just had fun through the whole thing and enjoyed myself, when you are not stressed you would perform at your best.
All the best to you guys still to do your assessment, you guys should get done already so we start expecting success mails for medicals/documentation. |

thanks a lot for this? anything else u think we shld know? asides from the group session and individual presentation cloud9usher: First and foremost, learn Powerpoint on the popular Windows 7. All the computers I saw in the computer room ran on Windows 7. And since you are not too competent with Powerpoint learn with Windows 7, don't complicate yourself with Windows 8.
About learning Powerpoint 7, just learn the basic things, how to open the PP package on the laptop, how to use the slides, how to add text to the slides, how to move to the next slides, then how to make your slides show in viewing mode to do a presentation and how to move from one slide to another by using the back and forth keys on the computer you'd be provided to present it on.
There is nothing complicated about it, from the group discussion you must have gotten all the info you need for the PP, so all you'd be doing is just filling the information on your slides, that's all.
For the presentation, my assessors didn't say a word all through my presentation but just watched while I explained so I don't know if other people where quizzed about some things doing the presentation. After my presentation one of the assessor just looked at the other and said "For me I don't have an objection or question, or do you" and the other one said "No." She then said she just wanted to add something because as a banker she feels that point is important as well and I took note of it and I thanked them and left.
The point she gave me came in handy in the essay because in the essay part we were to write about the group discussion and all there was a part to add your personal additions which was not discussed in the group but you feel is important as well so her professional info came in handy in that section of the essay.
In your presentation don't just drop the points as you typed them on the slides and move to the next, try and explain them aptly but don't waste too much time explaining because you have a limited time to present.
All the best to you, its not as stressful and difficult as it seems, its just a well-rounded assessment of your competence and skills. |
